Need to take over apple ID due to death of a family member

My Dad has died and I need to take over his apple ID in order to help my mum, who has his iPhone, computer, MacBook, iPad, and her iPhone all on his account. I have tried several times contacting Apple Support, and was starting to get somewhere, however, since the middle of March, I have had no response from my emails. Today I phoned apple and got put through to the US (this lady was actually very helpful, although unable to actually help me). I've since scheduled a call, but do not hold out much hope.
Has anyone been through this process?

I'm afraid the only way you are going to be able to deal with this is through Apple Support. You could try regarding it as a security issue. This Apple Help page provides contact information for various countries for security problems with an Apple ID:

  • Do I need to take my Apple TV for service?

    I have the 3rd Gen Apple TV and have had it since the launch date. Probably 1/3 of the time when I turn the device on, I get the green screen, which is really frustrating. Normally after unplugging the device and plugging in again, it works fine -- but it's still annoying. Is this a common occurence?
    Second, every now and then (which has happened at least 10 times since I've had the device but I use it often enough to say it is uncommon), I get static interference with the device. I've tried multiple HDMI ports and multiple HDMI cables, but the problem still occurs.
    Is all of this enough to warrant me to take the Apple TV in for service? Does it sound like I have a faulty device? Or could there be something in the way I have it set up?

    I am trying to set up an old 3gs for my 80 year old father and i need an apple id for him. I get an error on the apple website when i try to set an apple id up for him, no explanation just "error: this page cant be displayed.Contact support for additional information. The Incident ID: N/A.".
    I'm assuming its some kind of security error because I'm trying to do this from the UK and his address is in Spain. I hope to deliver via another family member who is going out to Spain. I would like it to be completely set-up for him.
    Any Advice would be appreciated.

    Correct again. You must have a valid credit card and address for the country whose App Store you are trying to use.

  • Is 10.8.2 a joke or did Msft take over Apple?  HP printers don't work, Silverlight doesn't work.  Can't wait to see what else they broke......very sad

    Latest and greatest o/s update is flawed.  Seems like we have taken a page out of the microsoft play book...hurry up and release and then we will fix as users complain....unfortunately this was not a fix, and now it is broken.THIS WAS ONE OF MY MAIN REASONS FOR DITCHING WINDOWS!  Come on people I need to go back to plain old 10.8.0 so my system works again.  As to the HP printers, did a search and found new driver software, downloaded, installed and now the situation is worse.  Tried to print 1 page of a report and got multiple pages of a single line of hyraglyphics!

    The P1606 I affraid currently not supported on Mountain Lion using a USB connection and therefore the issue you are facing, An updated software should become available during Fall 2012:

    Although the printer worked under 10.8.1 I assume it kept using the Lion software you had prior upgrading the OS, which more likely got somehow affected by the latest OS update.
    However as the P1606 support AirPrint you can still print by connecting the printer to the network using an ethernet cable.
    Make sure to install the latest firmware to assure the device is AirPrint enabled:

  • Would someone at Apple please take serious steps to locate and block the bots that are attempting to take over Apple IDs?

    I regularly get e-mails (which appear to be legit upon intense scrutiny) from Apple regarding the request for a reset of my Apple ID. Given how often and the timing of these e-mails (spead out and not bunched up like it would be for someone who actually mistook my ID for their own), it is clear that someone is making a serious effort to break into my account (and logically millions of other accounts). Would someone at Apple please take just as serious steps to locate these scumbags and put them down?

    I've submitted the feedback where you've suggested. I hope someone will takw the problem seriously because there may come a day when the e-mails will end and my bank account will just get emptied by some cracker* who has found a flaw in the system and exploited it.
    *This is the correct term, "hacker" is a style of programmer, while a "cracker" cracks computer-based security. Blame the Media and Hollywood for getting the terms wrong.

  • I need to reset my apple tv due it not working following system update. I cannot reset onscreen, so need to factory reset via iTunes. However, upon plugging into iTunes with the micro usb cable, iTunes is not picking it up. Any ideas pleas??

    All that happens is the light on the front of the apple tv flashes rapidly. Itunes is not recognising the apple tv being plugged in, so I cannot attempt the factory reset. Help!

    Have you made sure that you have removed all the cables other than the USB cable when connecting with Apple TV to iTunes. Also make sure that you have connected the Apple TV to a powered USB port.

    There is now no need to share my account - they each can have their own Apple ID but still share purchases. But I'd like them to retain the email aliase we've had these many years.

    I'm afraid not. Aliases remain tied forever to the account which created them - you can't move them to, nor use them to create, another account.

    Okay so I figured out the solution by reading other discussions. Basically you need to delete on your phone the icloud account and start up a new icloud account with a new email address. This is nice because you can still share apps without getting everyone elses things. The only thing that didn't get worked out was the notes...
    On your phone go to settings and then icloud, scroll down and delete the account. Then just make a new icloud under a new email.

  • When using an Apple TV, any new device that logs on immediately takes over the display.  Is there any way to prevent this and maintain the control from a designated device?
