Need to test iCal server with Mobile devices

I have a deployment of the iCal Server rolling out to a global user community. I know it works with the iPhone and iPad, but I need other mobile platforms that we can test it with. So if there are any users with other mobile devices that want to test connections to a Caldav server - I would love to be able to try it out.

ISE integration with Mobile Device Management ( MDM ) help required

     Am here bring to your notice an different issue and no much resources to support even in PEC or Cisco Document.
     We are conduction a Proof Of Concept (PoC) on Secure Bring Your Own Device ( BYOD ) using Cisco ISE and gonna test all the scenarios like Wired, Wireless and VPN user access.
Setup Brief :

      Our Setup has ISE VM acting as Admin, Monitor and Profiling Device, we have NAC 3315 physical Appliance as Inline posture Device, Wireless LAN controller, Access point and the Identity source as Microsof Active Directory
     Having Plans to Integrate Mobile Device Management ( MDM ) and Citrix VDI setup also.
Activity Brief:

     As of now we have tested the Wired Scenario Authentication and authorization for guest users and gonna carry out the profiling and posture.
Clarifications Required
================
Wired Scenario - Require some configuration / steps on how to carryout posture for the guest wired users i.e. LAPTOP.
Wireless Scenario
MDM can be integrated to ISE ?
How the MDM can be integrated to Cisco ISE configuration or Guide to show the same?
What is the demarcation between MDM and ISE ( i.e. What is the role of ISE and MDM on Mobile Devices ) ?
If MDM is available so then when the control of ISE ends, does MDM do management or ISE will do management of the devices ?
Is MDM will do client provisioning or ISE should do ?
Is MDM send or update patches of Mobile Devices ?
As of now these are the scenarios, kindly revert if any good documents to show this or share your expertise on the Integration Part.

I would like to avail your valuable inputs to understand on the Client provisioning part for the Mobile Devices/ Laptop. I understand from your reply that MDM integration is not available in the current release ISE 1.1 - That is correct.
Kindly let me know your views or any documents on the following scenarios with the current release in mind
1. User with Mobile devices connecting to Wireless ( both Employee and Guest ) , How the Flow differs for the Employee and Guest. How the client provisioning is done ( i.e. Like Posturing or Compliance Check ).
The posturing and compliance check is done based on the user authentication information (i.e. AD memberOf vs Guest user) combined with the users endpoint (windows, mac osx, or a mobile device), ISE then has a few decisions to make based on the authorization policies. For example, if a Domain User coming from a Windows 7 machine joins the network, then can either use the nac agent, or the web agent. Then you can scan for registry settings, file settings, program requirements, hotfix compliance...and the list goes on. If the user fails a check then you can either assign an acl for the user so they only have guest access, or you can place them into a remediation vlan the options are entirely up to the requirements and however the solution is implemented.
2. User with Laptop connecting to Wireless ( both Employee and Guest ). How the client provisioning is done ( i.e. Like Posturing   or Compliance Check ).
Guests are usually redirected to the guest portal which they authenticate and their user group falls within the Guest container that is on the ISE internal database, that is usually coupled with an authorization profile that grants them internet access. For the client provisioning, that is usually done based on the operating system, via profiling (dhcp, and user agent string., netmap...etc) and can be fine tuned for all laptops or to a specific set of users based on their group membership.
3. What are advantages of having ISE also in place for Mobile devices, since most of the Mobile related tasks ( like Authentication, Authorization, Profiling and Posture ) are carried out by MDM. I am checking for the significant advantage of having ISE for Client network having only Mobile devices. Kindly clarify.
Currently the advantage of Cisco ISE is that it supports profiling within wireless and really fits well within a network that has mostly Cisco products since they are all part of of the Borderless security initiative being driven on the backend. The product teams for wireless, wired, security (vpn..etc) and ISE are pretty close in building their solutions so that you can get connected with any device any where (sorry for the sales pitch). The latests wireless code is improving and is going to have support similar to the ios sensor for wired devices where dhcp, cdp, and other attributes can be sent in the radius packet for better profiling decisions. With integration for an MDM platform coming soon, and also support for TACACS rumored (have to verify with your account rep) you have options that really stand out from a unit that only supports MDM. Cisco ISE also comes with a wireless product ID so that makes the budget work when it comes to deploying ISE if you arent looking for enforcement on your wired devices.
4. Do you recommend 802.1X Authentication to use for the Employee and Contractor? The Guest user authentication as Open ?
For internal users and vendors the best option by far is dot1x, almost all operating systems are capable of performing dot1x and the 1.1.1 MR has a piece now that can provision the supplicant for the users, by using scep to enroll certificates or configure peap settings.
There is a feature within the guest portal that allows you to statically assign guests into endpoint group, that feature is called device registration web authentication. It seems like an open network but uses mac filtering to assign these devices to an endpoint without requiring users to enter any credentials. They are presented with an AUP page, once they accept their mac address is mapped to the endpoint group
5. How can we ensure the Encryption of traffic from the Guest user to the NAD ( Network Access devices ) ?

6. We are also looking for VDI ( Citrix, VMware ) solution for the client ( both Employee and Guest ) , how ISE can play a role in securing the VDI environment.
For most thin clients you can perform dot1x authentication on the device itself, however that is something the manufacturer will have to support. This is a little gray for me.
7. Is that any integration required with Citrix or VMware. How the VDI can be offered based on the User role ( i.e. Employee, Contractor or Guest ), since Guest database is available only with ISE, how the checks are made from the VDI environment.
IN ISE there is an identity sequence which can authenticate users in AD first, if the user is not found then it can look in the internal database.
Our solution demands MDM in the integrated solution, As on today ISE cant be integrated with MDM. so what kind of solution we can propose to have MDM and Cisco ISE .Do the clients now enter the network should have already installed the MDM agent (or) any other way of pushing the same to the Client.
Today there is no integration between the devices, the last release time I heard was December for this feature. However it would be best to confirm with your Cisco Account rep on this issue.

How to use iCal Server with clients?

Ok, so since I can't find this anywhere... How do I use iCal Server with other desktop clients? I've selected the user, enabled calendaring, the user can authenticate in web-based group calendars. But then I'm stuck.
How do I give them their own calendar?
In iCal, I go to Accounts and try and enter the info but it fails every time. I tried the dns name like so: "calendar.example.edu" but it generates an error. But the user can log in to the web calendar for groups. Where is the users individual calendar located?
The help menu ignores that field as if it's not needed, but then it fails because the calendar doesn't know where the server is. The clients can't all be OD bound, so this has to work outside of Open Directory. According to Apple other CalDAV clients can connect too. How? Computers just don't "connect" on their own.
Anyone know the answer?

I was getting the same error when I tried to subscribe to a calendar using:
Subscribe to: http://myserver.example.com:8008/
principals/users/usershortname
I found that if I added a trailing slash to the URL then it would work :
Subscribe to: http://myserver.example.com:8008/
principals/users/usershortname/
(the way I found this was to navigate via the web browser to http://myserver.example.com:8008 then authenticate as a user, then navigating through to http://myserver.example.com:8008/principals/users/ where you can see all the user names all with a trailing slash after them)

Remember any restoring of bookmarks overwrites whatever he current set is, and you may not want to loose them.
Even if up until now you have not made any backups of Desktop bookmarks Firefox will have backed up some of them into sets of daily bookmark backups. Once you have backed up your current set you could look at what it has by restoring those bookmarks, you may find one of those sets is fairly complete.
By the way if you look at the profile files and folders that you should now have on the desktop you should see it contains a bookmarks backup folder, the size of the files within should indicate whether they contain anything.
You need to go into the bookmarks library and try the restore option. Backup each set that you look at if it has anything of use in it, before trying the next set. With look one of those will be a fairly complete set of bookmarks.

I do not use Firefox on mobiles, but before you try anything further you do need to backup the desktop bookmarks and learn what existing backups you have. Unless you master that you are in continual danger of overwriting and loosing bookmarks.

SSLVPN 3rd Party Certificate, still get "untrusted site" with mobile device

I have recently implemented an Entrust cert on my ASA for SSLVPN. When accessing the ASA from Windows/MAC, the "untrusted site" page does NOT appear. When accessing the ASA from an Android/iPhone, the "untrusted site" page DOES appear. Can anyone chime in on why this is happening with mobile devices?

I'm not clear with your last request, what are you asking?
I've looked at the security warning on an iPhone, and it reads the following:
"The site's security certificate is not trusted!
You attemped to reach blah.blah.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated is own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications."
This does not happen when using Google Chrome on Windows/OSX.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Entries on desktop iCal do not sync with mobile devices.

I am running OSX 10.7.3 on my 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 iMac. iPhone running 5.1.1
Starting recently, entries I make on my desktop iCal do not sync thru the Cloud to the browser iCloud Calendar or my iPhone Calendar or my IPad Calendar.
My email, my Contacts sync just fine.
An iCal entry on my iPhone will sync with all mobile devices and the Cloud browser but do not sync to the iMac. In fact, all transactions from any mobile device and browser based Cloud all sync just fine between devices and iMac. All but the iCal transactions. They do not sync to the iMac or from the iMac

First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

Cannot delete the checkbox for Master Password - desktop synced with mobile device - is the password for that what is needed on the desktop?

Re-installed Firefox 4 recently after initial problems with Rapport software. Now get a box to enter a master password to proceed - just close it but it is annoying. Visited Options and under Security unchecked the Master Password box but another warning box appears and when this is closed the Master Password box is re-checked. I have never created a Master Password. My desktop is synced with my mobile device and I have a password for that - is this the master password? If not, what other options are there for stopping this box appearing when Firefox is activated?

The name and password for Firefox Sync and the Sync key are stored in the Password Manager.<br />
So if you use Sync then you will get a Master Password prompt the first time that Sync wants to connect to the Sync server.

What is happening with iCloud and its sync with mobile devices?

I have been an Apple fan for 4 years now. I currently have 4 Macs (2 @ 27" and 2 @ 21.5" models), 2 iphones (4s and 3gs) and an iPad (2). I use them all for business and personal use.
Prior to purchasing my iPhone 4s on release day in the UK I was also a fully signed up Mobileme family account user. Everything worked fine. When I purchased my iPhone 4s I switched everything from Mobileme over to iCloud. Followed all the instructions. Initially it seemed to work fine. But over the last few weeks it has all gone horribly wrong resulting in the following; amongst other problems:
iPhone 4s
My iphone 4s will no longer sync mail, contacts and calendar effectively. Mail will sync new mail in my inbox but I cant send any mail and when I do draft a mail and send it dissappears from the outbox, sent box and inbox (i always bcc mail). The number of contacts is a fraction of the number of contacts in my contracts file on my main Mac. Calendar will not let me sync or add any new entries...let alone sync with iCal on the Mac.
iPad 2
My iPad suffers from much of the same problems as my iPhone. When I go to settings on the iPad and go to Mail, contacts and calendar, the iPad just freezes. I then have to hard re-set to get it working again.
iPhone 3gs
I used this before I upgraded to the 4s. It suffers with the same problems as my 4s described above.
iCloud.com
The number of contacts on iCloud.com is fixed at 1625no; whereas my Mac has a clean set of contacts containing 1325no. When I try to delete contacts on iCloud.com it says I cant because of a server error. Mail and Calendar both seem to work fine though.
I am now left with a major business critical problem. Niether iCloud.com, my Mac or my mobile devices will sync with each other. Apple has excalated the problem and my iCloud account is currently being tested. In the meantime my Mac contacts has duplicated and increased upwards of 4,000 contacts.
This whole journey of bad expereince is driving me insane and making my love of all things Apple wain.
I have restored my mobile devices about 8-9 times each. I have restored from previous versions stored on iTunes and also set them up as new devices....which as any of you will know is a laborious process because you have to reconfigure the Apps icons each time you do this as a new device! None of my attempts have fixed the situation.
Are we or have we been used by Apple as guinea pigs to test the iCloud which, according to the communities and discussions on this site, leaves a lot to be desired. This is having a dramatic affect on my quality of life and business.
Please help me.....

For the most part if you just get a new webhost you can continue to run with iWeb. Since you are still running Tiger iWeb should work just fine for you. You will simply need to publish your website to a folder or with the built in FTP in iWeb. Apple has simply quit updating iWeb & there will come a day when iWeb quits working in the later OS's whatever kitty comes after Lion.

ICal server with alternate LDAP

In the (very, very brief) documentation for iCal Server, it says:
To run iCal service, you need:
User names and passwords stored in a Mac OS X version 10.5 Open Directory system,
an Active Directory system (using the Active Directory plug-in for Mac OS X version
10.5 Open Directory), or an OpenLDAP directory with schema to support iCal service
Now, this sounds great. However, everywhere I look it says no, you need to have Open Directory, and not only that, but you have to have Open Directory on a Leopard Server.
What is the deal with this? We have an OD on a 10.4 server. That server is not getting upgraded - it is just not going to happen. My network administrator is ripping his hair out for days now trying to get LDAP data migrated to the 10.5 server with absolutely no success - most users do not transfer over directly, and doing the "export from Workgroup Manager" method completely destroys our users' records (attributes dropped, all inactive users become active!) It's a disaster!
If this thing supports any LDAP server with the right schema, why can't we just get an idea of what that schema would be and add it to our 10.4 Open Directory? OpenLDAP is OpenLDAP isn't it? I really understand what the issue is here, but either the documentation is flat out lying or there's some secret that no one's decided to actually write down yet. Which is it?

Well, schema modifications were exactly what I had in mind. I went of instructions in the ical source and that seemed to go pretty well - I can now start iCal services and get a clean log file out of it. I'm not saying it's working 100% yet (can grant users access to create calendars but they get an error "No Calendar Home Error" when they do - in the logs it seems to complain about not authenticating properly). I'm still pretty confident this can be done, it just seems that any of the automatic tools in Server Admin are pretty much worthless to us - so we have to learn how to emulate what it would be doing were it functional. We've even managed to get the wiki server up and running to - again, it just takes some patience to get things moving right. Once we do have a complete setup, I'll post the instructions somewhere. I'm sorry, but It's crap that this can't work - they just choose not to tell us how or provide any relevant patches. Upgrading an LDAP schema is not impossible. Used to have to do it once in a while back in the day before there was anything like Active Directory.
We would gladly just move the directory to 10.5 but it just does not seem to be possible without redoing all the information manually - as you have suggested. Now, that would be all well and good if we were a tiny little workgroup but we're talking about a whole company with hundreds of users here. It would be a major support nightmare for them all to lose their passwords or worse, for 2/3 of the accounts to disappear, which is the scenario with any of the automatic migration methods. Manual entry is technically possible but it would take quite a long time and it would also require reconfiguring many computers which aren't located anywhere near us anymore. The transportation and overtime costs alone are staggering. This is not the ease of use that Apple so heavily promotes for themselves. Upgrading the server to 10.5 would most surely knock out a lot of custom services that are running on the 10.4 server (things like ruby on rails that were set up manually - and are tied into so many other things that would take months to get tested and moved).
Really, I just think Apple needs to step up here and make their products interoperate better. How can it be so impossible to move users from an older server *of their making* to a newer one - they didn't consider this at all while developing the new version, that people may want to ... you know, expand to multiple servers? They didn't even consider that people might have an old, but perfectly functional, 10.4 server that they might want to keep around? It just doesn't make sense to me. Sadly, I feel in the Windows world this would have gone a lot better - I don't remember having nearly as many issues interoperating with Windows NT and Windows 2000 servers - at least, not with transferring accounts. Also, upgrading and migrating Tiger clients to Leopard is not nearly so impossible - in fact, it's remarkably simple. Granted the level of complexity is far greater, but I should think they'd be able to handle it - otherwise I think we should investigate more stable and long-term oriented server architechtures.

Searching mailbox with mobile device

Hi.
A user is trying to search his mailbox with his mobile device. The phone is configured to only sync 3 days back so he "continues" the search on the server with the phone. The problem is that the phone only finds content which is 2 months old or
newer.
I must add that earlier today he reported that search with Outlook in online mode didn't work either, so I deleted the index on the server and it then rebuild itself. Outlook search now wit actually also was healthy (the status showed healthy) before
I deleted it but for some reason it didn't work.
So the Outlook problem is fixed but the phone search still doesn't Work. Anyone know if active sync uses the exact same index as Outlook in online mode does? Or does active sync hold som cached search info or does it seach in some other way?

There is an option on the mobile device to continue search on server, so your statement that it only shows hits for what's been synced is not true.
But further testing in Outlook shows me that there is something wrong with the indexing on the server. The database tells me that the index is healthy, but when I delete the index and let the server create a new one, the size changes for the new
index. Not a few MB but 1.5GB... this tells me that something is not quite right with the indexing of the database.
Also a funny thing is that when I search for the same keywords in subject on an Android device and an Ios device, the oldest thing I find on the Ios device is actually older than the oldest thing I find on the Android device. So there
seems to be a limit in how old the items searched with the Android device (Sony deivce) can be......at least that's what my testing shows. Even when the search is done on the server via the mobile device.
So I think I can conclude to Things. Mobile devices uses different limits on age, even when using the server index and there must be something wrong wit the indexing of the database, even though the database tells me that the indexing is healthy.
