Need to test Production Backups on another server.

Dear Expert,
Our SAP Production server is running on HP-UX in cluster mode (ECC 6.0 with oracle 10g). We have sheduled Incremental database online backup (daily) and Full database online + redolog backup (on sunday) on disk, and getting successfull backups.
Now we wanted to test our backup, as it is a running production server so wanted to try on diffrent server.
So we are installing new server on windows 64bit machine with  orale database. Our plane is to copy backupfiles  of production server to newly installed server and try to restore it.
We need your suggetions on it and the correct way to test the backups if any.
As it is highly important activity, so please revert ASAP.
Regards,
Ajit

Hi Ajit,
I would recommend to test this scenario on HP-UX system only as your production server is on the same operating system.
If there is no urgency for testing the production backup, you can wait until your Quality Server refresh cycle.
You can refresh the Quality server using online/offline backup restore method (backup of production server).
This way, you will get 2 benefits..
1. Your Quality server will be refreshed with production data
2. You can test Production backup consistancy more efficiently.

  • Rman backup to another server

    Hello!
    This is the scenario:
I have a primary database(oracle 10g) and a standby database, created using Rman.
Is there a way to backup the standby database and transfer the backup to another server, so I can have the database in a third server that is neither primary nor standby.
    Thank in advance!

    Hi user10385894,
Is there a way to backup the standby database and transfer the backup to another server?Yes you can copy the backup pieces from the standby side to the third server and copy a controlfilecopy from the primary and register the backup pieces.
    Followed by a restore.
Do you happen to have a catalog than even a duplicate can be done easely?

  • RMAN Backup on another server

    Hi,
I am using oracle database 11g, and I am taking RMAN backup in the same server.
But now I need this RMAN backup to be saved on another server.
I created one database directory, but it did not work with me, since it cannot see the location.
I used the same idea with export file to another server and it worked.
But with RMAN directory it could not work !!!.
So any idea about this ?

RegardsIf your OS is windows then you have to create OracleService using oradim utility, then create need directory for data/control/log files and according background/diag/trace also parameter file.
After creating these directories startup mount database using STARTUP MOUNT PFILE='PFILELOCATION' then issue command RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE in this case oracle will read default location of archive logs and will apply,if this directory is different then main server then execute RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL and apply archive logs manually and open database with ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS.

  • Production moves to another server with existing streams replication

    Hi All,
We have oracle bi directional streams replication setup between 2 server(us and uk). Everything is working as expected.
But,We are going to move UK server from (ex: cam19 to cam29).
Will it impact on replication setup.
we will restore new server via cold backup. Also we will stopped all the process on both the sides ,before cold backup.
Can you please suggest? What should we do before doing that.
How we can avoid any problem while moving server.
so it will not impact on replication.
    Thanks in advance!!!!
    Many Thanks
    nick

    Thanks a lotz Anurag..
I have one small question not on same topic, Its regarding table add in existing replication setup.
What happened ,When we add a new table to existing replication setup if any reason table is not replicating between two database then we have to remove the rules for that particular table and setup again. Some time what happened we got error "queue has errors" i dont know the ORA number.
in that case what cases when apply process ABORETED and when we try to start the process it gives same error and ABORTED again.
then we have remove the whole replication Manually and setup again. It's very horriable....
Could you please help that before drop the rules for particular table then wht should we do ? Do we need to unscheduled the propagation process and then drop the rules becuase i read on metalink that negative rules drops while propagation process using the same rule set.
    Please Suggest!!!!!!!!!!
    Many Thanks

  • Expdp using directory on another server

I've got a serious issue here and hoping someone can help.
    Oracle 10.2.0.4
    HP-UX 11.21
I have an export from a large (2Tb) database that I need import into a database on another server, but there isn't enough room to put the export file on that server. We do not have enough space to add, and we are prohibited from using NFS.
I thought perhaps I could run the impdp command from the server containing the export dump (similar to how we did it with exp/imp), but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
I tried using network_link, but that won't work because directories and network_links are mutually exclusive.
I tried creating a directory in my local database and then set my ORACLE_SID to my local database and try running expdp to the remote database, but datapump only reads the directory of the database it is importing into.
    Any other ideas?
    Please help!

Yes, I'm sure directories and network_liknks are mutually exclusive.

  • How to test restore in another server?

    Hi,
I want to test full backup (hot backup using RMAN) of my DB (11.2 SE) on another server (I didn't install DB on yet).
    Saad,

to test the backup -which is done by third party softwareHow you restore really depends on how you backup the database !
Without knowing how the backup is done it would be incorrect to advice a single method to test restoration.
Nevertheless, you need to start with an installation of Oracle software (RDBMS, Binaries) on the new test server. You would have to install the same Oracle RDBMS Release and Version as the one that is running in your production server (where the backup was taken). If the third party software incorporates media management libraries, you'd need to install and configure them as well. Thereafter, the restore command depends on how the backup is done.

  • Transport a request from one server(quality) to another server(production)

    Hi All,
I want to transport a request from one server(quality) to another server(production)
Can we transport a request from quality to production programatically i.e. by using programing logic.
    Regards,
    Swarup

    Hi,
It cannot be done programmatically. Although it can be automated by basis guys. They configure it in TMS (Transport Management System). You can check it using STMS. (if you are authorized to view it).
Transport path are defined in TMS.
For Automated Transport configuration is done in TMS.
Generally automatic Transport are not setup between quality and production. Changes are first tested in Quality and then Transported by basis team either periodically / individually.
In case of manual transport Transport Request can be imported in production using STMS_IMPORT transaction in production. (Basis guy will do it for approved Transports)
If there is no direct connectivity - Basis people copy "data" file and "co" file and Transport it to target server (This is generally not the case in Quality - production as Transport path is always defined).
    Regards,
    Mohaiyuddin
