Need to totally delete Final Cut Express off networked machine

I have two licenses for Final Cut Express to use on two networked machines. I loaded one and was working on it and needed to load the second license. Unfortunately, I picked up the wrong box and loaded the same one twice. Since these are networked computers, I and my support person cannot work at the same time. I have tried to delete all the files I can find so I can load the correct second license, but it still treats my "reload" as an upgrade and won't let me give it the second license number. Can any one tell me what I am missing?
Thanks!

Go to Library/Application Support/ProApps and trash the Final Cut Express System ID file.

If version 4 is an upgrade only, you will have to have the serial number of the 3.5 full version.
If you can't find it try contacting Apple with your proff of purchase, they may be able to help.

  • Need assistance to operate Final Cut Express on Leopard

I am having trouble with Final Cut Express HD, the version that I have installed is 3.5.1. It is installed on Tiger and it works wonderfully. I have backed it up with SuperDuper as a bootable backup. However, after installing Leopard and starting the program I was requested to enter my name and serial number from packaging. I entered Final Cut Express HD upgrade version 3.5 serial number from the package. This is the last update I had bought. I then receive the following message: “you have entered and upgrade serial number. Please enter your original serial number”. I then entered the serial number for Final Cut Express HD upgrade version 3.0 from that package which I had bought. I then got an alert message “the serial number you entered is not valid”. I repeated entering the serial number for Final Cut Express 2 which I had bought as an upgrade and received previous message again.
To summarize, I have three boxes of Final Cut Express upgrades which I had bought, but I do not have the original I had bought years ago to start with and therefore can not get Leopard to run the program. I feel dumb for not keeping the original Purchase, but these boxes do add up. Can anyone tell me where to go on the apple site to get help? I posted my problem on the Final Cut Express feed back site but, received no answer.

I infer from your last post that having found the number all is now well.
To you and everyone else, I would like to stress how vitally important both your DVD and number is.
Lose either and you could have thrown away £200/$400.
I make copies of all my installation disks and actually write the numbers in felt pen on them.
I also put the numbers in various safe places including in the appropriate Tom Wolsky (and other authors') books !

  • I need help with my Final Cut Express HD

When I click on Final Cut Express HD file, it is saying I have an error and it will open, why is this happening? It was working before and now it is not.

There is absolutely no way anyone can know what is causing the problem unless you give full details of your computer setup, what you have been doing etc. etc.
It's like telling a doctor you are not feeling well and giving him (or her) no more information.
The only possible advice with so little to go on would be to Trash the Preferences and if that didn't work, completely UNINSTALL and reinstall FCE:-

  • Using Final Cut Express and Network accounts

I am having problems launching Final Cut Express when opening the program logged into a network account.
It works fine when i am logged into administrator, but when i am in another account it will not launch
    Thanks
    Dave

My general experience is that FCE either doesn't start or doesn't run properly unless you are logged in under an administrator account.
Tom Wolsky advised one time that after installation FCE had to be run once from an administrator account and afterward it would run from regular accounts. That hasn't worked in my experience.
As far as network accounts are concerned, are you using an xServe or a Mac with OSX Server installed, and workgroup manager? FCE will need to be installed on the local machine, not the server, and the network accounts won't necessarily work with FCE.

  • Final Cut Express not opening, error says final FCE disks are missing.

    Hi there,
Recently I got a WD Fire Wire 800 Hard drive for christmas so I could move all of my final cut projects over to the HD.
When I moved my final cut express documents including all of the folders it now says this error.
    To preserve the integrity of the data used by final cut express, it is necessary to ensure the existence of the following paths;
    - My HDD Chris is missing
Then it gives me the option to reset scratch disks, check again or quit.
So I'm not sure what I do.
Should I simply move back all the folders and documents that I moved to my hard drive (btw I tried this but it still gave the same error message). I have deleted final cut express 4.1 and re installed 4.0 to see if it works but it didn't and has the same error message.
    Any tips would be helpful.
    Chees, Chris.

You moved the software? You can't do that. That's fatal. The software must be on the system drive as it requires system resources. Move the application called Final Cut Express back into the top level of the Applications folder. Do it move it, rename it, or put it inside a folder.
Do not assign the scratch disk to a folder anywhere. If you want the scratch disk to be on your external drive select the top level of the external drive. FCE will create the folders it needs in that location.
    Hi,
When you say move the application final cut express into the application folder.
Do you mean move my folder of final cut express that I moved onto my HDD?
If so it's copying the 20GB folder as I speak. Hopefully fixes this frustrating problem..
    Cheers, Chris.

  • Problem exporting to WMV in Final Cut Express

I am recreating a Keynote file of mine for someone who needs to use Power Point (poor fellow). Because most video will not play in Power Point, I converted those needed into WMV using Final Cut Express. However, when they play back in the Power Point, the colors are all changed to red and green and such, nothing like the originals. Fortunately, the files will play normally saved as AVI files, but I am told that WMV play best in Power Point.

As I was replying to a Telestream Technical Support person and trying to get a screen shot to send her, the Windows computer indicated that there was a Windows Media update. I installed the update, and now the .mov files that were converted to .wmv files in Final Cut Express run fine in both Windows Media Player and Power Point 2007 on the Windows XP computer.

  • Final Cut Express file format - audio problem

I have some .mov files created from a screen capture session that I need to edit in Final Cut Express.
They were saved in .H264 format and I need to convert them to one of FCE's native formate. I THOUGHT I could do this by exporting in the DV/DVCPRO - NTSC formal in Quicktime Pro (7). However, I do not have an AIFF option in the audio. So, when importing into FCE, I can see the video in my timeline, but the audio needs to rendered. Is there a way I can get the video with the native audio format?
    Thanks,
    DR

Well, that took care of the sound problem. However, the video is not right. It is displaying at a very slow frame rate, and does not keep up with the audio.
My workaround so far is to convert it to dv musing MPEG Streamclip. Switching to "re-sample at 48000 hz" is not working, but once I import it into FCE, I can render the audio and cut using that.
Not the most elegant solution, but it works.

  • DVC PRO HD for final cut express

    Hi,
I recently got some videos in the DVC PRO HD format that I need to edit in Final Cut Express. When I try to view them in Quicktime...the screen is black and I cannot import them into FCE.
I have no idea what to do? Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

FCE does not work with the codec, FPRO can, if you can access it. Or, this free app can convert the clips to one that FCE can work with.

Make sure the conversion matches the specs of one of the FCE Easy Setups. I'd suggest an AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec).

  • Final Cut Express moving videos off hard drive

So I started capturing some footage on my laptop because I didn't have an external drive available. I finished the project, and now I'm back home with my external drive. My internal drive had 1.5 gigs free now, and I want to move all the footage I captured from FCE onto the external.
I know iMovie has an option to export the project and all the files into a single file. Does FCE have an option like this, or do I need to go through finder to where it saved all the footage and move them like that? How can I do this without losing all the links and having to reconnect my media...
hopefully this all makes sense, I've never really used FCE

    Hello Drew,
FCE doesn't have that option. You will have to use the Finder to copy the folders/files to your external drive and yes you will have to Reconnect Media after moving the files.
Be sure your external drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended and is connected via Firewire.
In FCE, close your Project. Then in FCE preferences reset your scratch disk location to the new Final Cut Express Documents folder on your external drive. Then exit FCE.
The default FCE scratch disk location is /Users/yourusername/Final Cut Express Documents. Normally your FCE project file and related material is in this folder. Under it you will find the following folders:
    Autosave Vault
    Capture Scratch
    Render Files
    Waveform Cache
    Thumbnail Cache
and there may be an Audio Render Files folder too
At this point you should be able to find a Final Cut Express Documents folder on your external drive; it should have automatically been created when you reset your FCE preferences earlier, along with an Autosave Vault and a Capture Scratch folder. Copy the files from your internal drive's Autosave Vault and Capture Scratch folders to the corresponding new folders on your external drive. Don't bother copying the render files or cache files - it will be better to re-render after you move your project. Also, if you have any other source media such as photos or music, copy them to a new folder on your external drive. Keep your FCE project file on your internal hard drive but do make a backup copy of it somewhere.
After copying everything, verify & double check that you have good copies of your clips on your external drive because the next step is to delete the originals of your captured clips that are on your internal drive. Don't delete any folders, just the captured clips themselves ... and all the render files. This is necessary so that when you reopen your FCE project it will be forced to reconnect media and you can point it to the new location on your external drive. Otherwise it will just continue to use the clips that are on your internal drive.
Then reopen your Project File that you left on your internal drive and reconnect media when prompted.

  • How do I delete tabs in Final Cut Express?

Final Cut Express 4:  I know I can't delete whole projects; what I'm worried about is doing a bunch of short projects and having the tabs that show the titles of each project become so many I can't even use the program.  If I do 5 short videos and have 5 tabs designating them, what happens when I get to 20?  Or are they temporary files and will disappear soon?  Thanx in advance.

You can delete entire projects, but it isn't a 'one button' method.  When you start and save a new project in FCE, FCE will create several files and folders.  First is the project file which will be saved wherever you decided to save it with the name you give it.  Next, when you bring footage into a project using Log & Capture or Log & Transfer, FCE will create a folder for those files inside the Capture/Scratch folder - the sub-folder will bear the same name as the project.  And then when you render anything in that project, FCE will create a sub-folder inside the Render Files folder and the Audio Render Files folder - both will also bear the same name as the project.  FCE will also create folders for that project in the Autosave Vault folder.  To delete a project completely, navigate those files/folders and delete them and your project will no longer exist, nor will any media or renders associated with it.
    Here's a typical set up:
    Macintosh HD/
         Users/
              Projects/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Project
                   Smith Documentary
    Media Drive/
         Final Cut Express Documents/
               Audio Renders/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Demo
                   Smith Documentary
              Autosave Vault/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Demo
                   Smith Documentary
              Capture Scratch/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Demo
                   Smith Documentary
              Render Files/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Demo
                   Smith Documentary
To delete the project named "Jones Demo" navigate to where those files are stored and delete the folders named "Jones Demo" then empty the trash; the project and all of its associated media will be gone.  The only files that FCE might create for that project that are not stored inside a folder bearing the project's name are the Waveform Cache files - I usually delete the contents of that folder when ever I'm finished with a project.
Personally, I keep all of my project files just in case I ever need to go back to a project.  Project files are relatively small so hard drive space isn't really an issue.
As for the issue of having too many projects open at one time, that's a simple user error.  All you need to do before opening a new or another existing project is to close the project you were working on.  So if I were working on the "ABC Music Video" project and wanted to work on the "Smith Documentary" project for a while, I'd close the "ABC Music Video" Project, then open the "Smith Documentary" project.

  • Final Cut Express tells me I need to register again

I think my computer may have a virus. FCP tells me I need to register my serial number again (I have used it for 2+ years with no problems), but as soon as I start typing any information in the 'Final Cut Express Serialization' area the OK button turns grey, so it won't respond when I have entered the information. I have tried deleting FCP but am told that 'FCP cannot be moved to the trash because it cannot be deleted'. I have deleted the FCP ID file as recommended in other discussions but no luck.
When trying to install again using the original disc (genuine Apple software) I am told :
    Error creating folder
    1008:9,-5000 Access denied error
Upon clicking 'OK' I am then told:
You do not have enough access privileges for this installation.
Please help, I am going mad!!!

Make sure you're an admin user, trash you're preferences and repair permissions. Make sure the drive as the correct permissions set in Get info.
The OK button gets grayed out when you start typing the number, because the number is incorrect. When you finish typing the number correctly, case sensitive, hyphens, correct groups of letters or numbers, the OK button will light up again.

  • Do I need a blu ray burner to burn HD using Final Cut Express?

I just wanted to ask a question. I am new to burning after editing is complete. I am using Final Cut Express and have recorded my footage in HD. After trying to burn a disc using IDVD I realized it does not burn HD. So to be clear, in order for me to burn my HD finished sequences and have them be HD I need to purchase a blu-ray player?....also everyone keeps talking about Toast, what is this and do I need it to burn HD. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank

ANY DVD player cannot play HD content no matter what media it is on. HD content needs HD decoder and other circuitry and S/W which is not present on standard DVD player, just like standard definition TV cannot play HD programing. HD content has to be down converted with application such as iDVD to play on ANY DVD player, at which time it is no longer HD of course. In order to play high definition disc, you'll need HD content on HD media, blu-ray player and HDTV.

  • HDV KGCore crash with Final Cut express 4 NEED HELP

I recently purchased a cannon hv30 hdv camera. This is my first time using High Def footage and I am now working on my first project with it. I have used Final cut express with a hard drive camera for over a year now and have made many projects with little problems. After importing my footage in the 1080i60 easy setup setting (around 63 minutes of footage) I began to add it to the sequence. after adding the first part I added the next imported section of hdv footage. The program then froze for a few seconds and crashed. It did this everytime I added the same clip into the sequence. sometimes the error said that kcgore plugin could be related. I called an apple rep and after getting rid of all 3rd party programs and reinstalling TWICE it still crashes after I recaptured the footage while I am either editing the footage or jsut playing it back. NEED HELP

Thanks I tried it again and it seems to be working but I crashed like once or twice when viewing the footage. But after starting it up again it is working fine it is jsut that the footage has these white flashes in it when playing back sometimes. I am not sure if it is going to crash again or not hopefully it is fixed. I was just using the hdv setting for 1080i60. Im not sure if it was pal or nstc I just used the basic hdv 1080i60 setting. also do you think I should upgrade my ram and memory? Would that help moving it up from a 1 gig to 2 or 4 when working wwith hd footage now?
    thanks again

I do video productions for a small local TV station. I use Final Cut Express to edit. I need a new video camera but am at a loss as to what to buy. I know I will get a digital camera but do not know the difference between just digital and digital HD. Also, I can not afford an expensive camera and need some advice on which of the available cameras would be best and also work well with a Mac. One last issue, I currently use a Panasonic #CCD camera that takes a tape. When I load video to Final Cut the audio and video are out of sinc. Go figure. Can anyone help with these questions. Karen

    Hello Karen,
If you are using Final Cut Express, then look for camcorders that are AVCHD camcorders.  Look especially for the AVCHD logo and specific mention of AVCHD in the specs.  Most of the major manufacturers produce good quality camdcorders - Canon, Sony, etc.
Also, be aware that there are a lot of "not quite AVCHD" camcorders on the market (sometimes they say they record video as MPEG4-H.264/AVC) - buyer beware!
Most everything you are going to find on the market today is HD, which stands for "high-def".
Regarding your question about the Panasonic camcorder, it's best if you post that as a separate question, and please identify the specific model camcorder and the Easy Setup you are using in FCE.
