The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Do you know where the actual photo files are located on your laptop? If so, you can transfer them to the Mac over a LAN or by saving them to an external HDD, thumb drive or burning them to a disk. Then you can import the photos to the iPhoto app that came on your new Mac.
It would be the same process for the videos, however, it would depend what type of video files they are, as to which Mac app might allow you to view them.
BTW, since your Mac is new you need to Accept the iLife apps; iPhoto, GarageBand and iMovie into your Mac App Store/iTunes account. Open the MAS, sign into you account, go to the Purchased pane and accept the apps.

Hi am having problems with iTunes,I have all my music on my 4s but I bought the iPhone 5 today.is there any way that I can transfer music over to my new phone without using the library?as it doesn't seem to be on my PC anymore.i reset my pc and save my iTunes to a hard drive but can't access it.Need help please

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

  • How to replace hard drive and transfer everything over?

I've looked everywhere but am unable to find a definitive guide on how to do this.
Currently I have an early 2011 MBP that came with Snow Leopard and upgraded to Lion later. It has an HDD and I want to replace it with an SSD and transfer everything over to the SSD. Considering Lion created a Recovery partition (and there is also an EFI partition), I'm confused on how to do this the best way to basically copy my current hard drive to the new SSD.
The best I've figured out is to connect the SSD with a SATA-USB cable, use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant ( http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433 ) to create a Recovery partition on the new SSD, then, booting into Recovery, install Lion on the new SSD, and then use Migration Assistant to transfer all my files over.
Is there a simpler or better-explained way to basically copy my current hard drive over to a new SSD and then remove the HDD and use the SSD?

How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
    1.  Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

    Thanks again for your help!
Under normal circumstances, you don't need to transfer anything except you own settings, custom key commands. etc.
If you did a fresh install of Logic in your new computer, everything Logic-related should be put there for you by the installer itself.

  • How to transfer images over network?

    Hello,
I've built a program in LV 7.1 which taking a snap shot from a USB webcam and save it as JPEG file.
As I already said I am using LV 7.1 with NI VISION 7.1.
My program has to take the picture from the webcam and send it via serial visa connection. (TCP \ IP is also an option)
    Regards,
    Rotem

There are lots of ways to transfer files over the network. The easiest, in my opinion, is to use TCP/IP and set up a network share or mapped drive between the two machines and then transfer the file by using copy. Of course, there are lots of situations where setting up a network share isn't apropriate.
If network share isn't an option, and you want to use serial, you should probably use a protocol such as Xmodem, Ymodem or Zmodem to transfer the file. LabVIEW doesn't have direct support for these protocols, although I know someone sells (or at least used to sell, I couldn't find it with a quick search) a modem toolkit for LabVIEW with these protocols implemented. There are also ActiveX servers that implement these protocols that you could download or purchase and then access from LabVIEW.
If you want to go the TCP/IP route, an FTP server would be an easy option. You'd need to run an FTP server on the target machine, but then you could just use the LabVIEW FTP VIs or call an FTP terminal through command line or ActiveX.
Of course, you could implement your own file transfer protocol using VISA, datasocket or the TCP/IP VIs, but this last option is quite a bit of work to solve a problem when there are plenty of programs out there to solve it for you. Re-inventing the wheel if you will. While it's not all that difficult to read in a file, transfer it using one of the communication APIs, and then write it back to a file on your client machine, you'll either have to implement, or go without, a lot of the features and safeguards, like error checking, which are built into other file transfer protocols. Also, remember that you'll have to have a LabVIEW application running on each end, so you'll have to implement both halves of the solution (as opposed to options like FTP or the network share, where you only have to run a VI on one computer).
    Hope that helps,
    Ryan K.

  • DJ Needs To Transfer Playlists to A 30G iPod, but HOW?

Hello - I am a Dee Jay, and I have a whole bunch of music, more than my 30g iPod can handle. I have been told I need to create a playlist so that I can transfer specific songs to my 30g iPod.
My problem lies in that I need to transfer all of my playlists (I have over 150). Either there must be another way to transfer my playlists to my iPod, or I need the secret code on how to transfer all my playlists in this one one playlist.
I will be grateful for any useful ideas.

    Jeff:
Thanks so very much for answering my inquiry. I have found the summary screen, which appears ONLY when my iPod is connected. Who knew this could be so simple? Now, the delightful decision - - which songs and playlists do I want to choose...
    Once again, thank you!

  • I need to transfer playlists from my old iphone into itunes so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6.  However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook.  I have read other threads but have not found answer.  help!

I am a group exercise instructor and rely heavily on my playlists.  My old phone is an iphone 4s and I just bought an Iphone 6.  I also have a macbook where I keep my itunes account, but I create all my playlists on my phone.  I need to transfer those playlists from my old iphone into itunes in my computer so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6.  However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook.  I have read other threads where the suggestion was to attach the old phone to itunes, find the phone in itunes and click the little arrow to the left to show the playlists.  Then right click on the playlist and export it, saving it to the desktop, to then import it into itunes.  However, in my case, the playlists do not show up when the phone is connected to itunes.  I have clicked on the little arrow and all I get is "music", "purchased", etc., but none of my playlists.   I'm sure some years back I probably deleted something in my itunes library and now none of my playlists show.  Please help me.  I would hate to have to recreate all of my playlists.  Thank you!

I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question.  Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing.  I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE"  in my iphone 4s.  They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes.  I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes:  Music, Movies, TV shows, books.  That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS"  but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone.  Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this.  I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer

Contact the University's IT dept, they may be able to set something up on the network to allow the ATV to connect without the need for a user name/password.

  • I need to transfer the Smart Mailboxes I have set up on one computer to another computer. Both are running 10.8.4 and Mail 6.3. None of the old solutions are viable since there is no longer a 'Mail' folder in the User account.

I acquired a new iMac, and need to transfer the Smart Mialboxes I have set up on my Mac Pro to the iMac. Mail is already set up to sync thorough iCloud, but the Smart mailboxes are - apparently - set up for individual machines. The only solutions I have been able to locate involve moving Preference files from one machine to the other; the problem is that there is no longer a 'Mail' folder set up for individual Users (actually there is no Mail folder at ALL under 10.8.4), and I am unable to locate any .plist files for Mail at all. Any idea how to make this haoppen?

Create a new smart mailbox. Does it sync? If not, do as below.
    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.

  • Help! I need to transfer everything!!

I need to transfer everything from a ibook G4 to my Pro. Both have the most recent updates and same version OS. I need to get my office programs, all of my itunes account, pics, and other stuff from the ibook to the pro. I only have one OS disk that i used on my ibook, other than that I don't have any more discs.

If you are missing the disc that came with your MacBook Pro, call AppleCare.
If you purchased the machine and it came with no discs, contact the and ask them to contact Applecare if they lost the discs, and give them to you regardless of whether they initially lost the discs. They aren't their's to keep.
Migrating from a G4 to MacBook Pro, is best done following these directions:

The Migration Assistant has been problematic for many migrating from PowerPC to Intel.
