Need to undo file renaming upon import

Help!
I didn't see the tiny box checked that re-named hundreds of images when I imported them.
I need to undo this and get the files names back.
Anyone know how?

Thanks!  Don't know if I'll go this direction or not, I don't think my files need any rebuilding, etc, but was just curious if I could work between bridge and lightroom! Sometimes a lot eaiser to go to bridge, do your thing then have it be compatible with LR!
Quick and Dirty!:)
Thank You,
Mike

  • Files Renamed when importing to LR4 and now can't find them in LR3

    Help!  What should I do???
Yesterday I installed LR 4 Beta.  I had a folder with 300 images in it on LR 3, obviously all files had names.  I imported these photos into LR4 to work with LR4 and they were renamed in the process.  Now in my LR3 folder, all the files still have there old names and the "missing photo ?" and I assume that's because the name has been changed and LR3 can't find them.  Any thoughts on an easy fix?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

Thanks so much for helping me with this.
I must admit, I didn't pay too much attention when importing this "test"
group of photos to LR4, therein lies my problem.  Now that I look at the
    import settings that were used:
    1. Files were not added or copied, they were "moved" to a new location and
    also renamed.
    2. Files were renamed starting with "264" using my regular import template.
Listed below are the first 10 photos with their original LR3 and he
    changed LR4 names.
    1201_001 changed to 1201_264-2
    1201_002 changed to 1201_265-2
    1201_003 changed to 1201_266-2
    1201_004 changed to 1201_267-2
    1201_005-Edit-Edit changed to 1201_268-2
    1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_269-2
    1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_270-2
    1201_005-Edit-Edit-2 changed to 1201_271-2
I have a back up of my images on an EHD from several days ago which has the
original file names, but this backup only has 203 of the 268 images I
    imported yesterday and are renamed.
    Thanks again,

  • To Move or Not to Move Original File Location Upon Import

I am rather new to the mac world. On my old XP computer, I was used to storing all my photos in the My Pictures directory and organized them in a main folder for each year. I do my photo editing with Nikon Capture as I take photos in raw format. I need to use Iphoto for viewing slide shows so I need to import the photos into Iphoto. Am wondering if I should transfer actual images into the iphot Library or have Iphoto link to the image files that I store organized by year. I don't want to store the images twice on my computer.

    Brian
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. It will create an alias to the Original file, a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Your choice, obviously, but best to be aware of all the ramifications. By all means post back if you require more info.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Need to undo set up after importing contents from old Macse

I just set up my new MB pro with OX X Mavericks. I choosed the option of "import contents from other mac" and brought my entire user identity and contents from my old MB air. But it created a whole new user identity in my new computer. I don't like it and want to undo it and start all set up again from the begining. Any ideas of how to do it. I have all my contentes backuped, so I'm not worried about that... By the way, I heard many times that it was not a good idea to start using a new Mac bringing all contents from your old one this way. Any comments to this?

You typed you migrated from your old partners PC - try using their password. It sounds like you've done what is in these articles, but maybe there will be something new.
    Reset Password

If you can see the other computer in Finder, try drag and drop copying the files. Can you copy the files to a Flash drive or external hard drive and then download them?

  • Why is Keynote storing images 20x larger than the original file size upon import?

In Keynote, I'll add a 150KB PNG image to a slide and the 500KB presentation goes to 3.7MB... a more than 3MB increase. I'm trying to troubleshoot large file sizes as a simple deck takes up 50-100MB on disk. Anyone know what is going on to make the file 20x larger once added to Keynote? And how I can keep the file size down? The 'Reduce File Size' option is worthless in this case... offering a less than 10% reduction on the earlier 20x amplification. Thanks

    Chris H 71 wrote:
This was originally in Keynote 09.
Yes converting an existing version 5 file in to Keynote 6 does many strange things. Any existing version 5 files I have, I continue to edit in 5. When starting a new presentation, I can use 6 without many problems at all.
I provided the files to replicate the issue to Apple support and never heard back.

  • Renaming files in Lightroom 3 Upon Import (problems)

I can having trouble importing files into Lightroom name where I want to custom name them - sequentially. I am importing the data from one folder on my hard drive to the folder that contains all of my lightroom files. I am able to import and rename some files in folders with ease. Others I am told Lightroom 3 couldn't name them. Why? If I try to import and rename in LR2 I have no problems. I am basically taking a Nikon generated file, say DSC0001.NEF and renaming it to Ireland 07-30-08.NEF. Lightroom 3 can't do it. Does anyone know why? Thanks.

    Hi Franz,
Let me clarify a couple things (I hope Adobe is listening):
    1.     I am merely copying and renaming on import. I am not moving the original files.
    2.     Files are created in my TO: directory, they just contain the origianl filename.
    3.     I tried the exact same procedure with LR2 and it works fine.
It appears there may be a bug in the software.

  • CS3 is making my m2t files audio go out of sync upon import

I am using a Matrox Axio LE running Premiere Pro CS3.
I'm using a Focus enhancements DR-HD100 to record in 720p 59.94 in m2t file format. After importing the clips into CS3 the video and audio is sometimes out of sync by 7-12 frames. It seems to happen with varied lengths of projects and there is no way to tell exactly when the video will go out of sync with the video.
After speaking with Techs at Focus I have run a couple tests and I don't think that anything is wrong with my DR-HD100s. I can play the same m2t clips that are out of sync in Premiere Pro CS3 in Power DVD and they play back fine. No issues with sync. It appears that Premiere Pro is doing something with the clips upon import that is messing with the sync.
    Any Ideas?

Here are a couple of thoughts:
1.) can you disconnect the Matrox and test the files in a non-Matrox Project? Any better?
2.) as PrPro can have issues with MPEG files, can you Export as a DV-AVI (or similar) from your DR-HD100? Any better?
3.) can you demux your files into elemental streams and Import these separately?
4.) is your OOS issue constant, over the course of a Clip, or does it drift? Constant can be easily fixed in PrPro, by turning Snap OFF, then Alt-clicking the Audio only, and nudging it along the Timeline. Once done, the Audio and Video will be re-linked. Rember to turn Snap back ON. If it drifts, you may need to Razor the Clips and work on the resulting parts separately, as stated before.
5.) have you tried Render/Replace for the Audio? This will get you a WAV file. Is that any better?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I need to know how best to import .mod files into elements 7

I need to know how best to import .mod files into elements 7

    lornamarieslade
Are you working with .mod standard or widescreen?
If .mod standard, less problematic. The file just might import without issue. Worst case would probably be changing the file extension from .mod to .mpg just prior to import.
Now .mod widescreen is another story that revolves around maintaining the 16:9 flag that scretches the video for display after encoding. Some have said that the 16:9 flag is lost in the transfer to computer; some say certain editors such as Premiere Elements just cannot read/recognize the flag. Whatever the case this is what you should consider in your Premiere Elements 7 Windows.
    a. If you need to rename the file extension from .mod to .mpg, do so prior to import.
    b. Import the .mod or .mpg counterpart into your Premiere Elements 7 project using the project preset NTSC or PAL DV Widescreen (NTSC or PAL depends on your location of interest). You will probably see that the video does not fill the space in the Edit Mode Monitor (you will probably see standard 4:3 looking image rather than widescreen 16:9 looking image).
    c. Right click the file in the Project media area, select Interpret Footage, and, in the Interpret Footage Dialog/Pixel Aspect Ratio section, dot the Conform To: and change the setting to
    D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2)
    or
    D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.422)
depending on your location of interest.
A while back there used to be a program called SD Copy that did the job of file name change and adding the 16:9 flag prior to import of the .mod widescreen into Premiere Elements. But, I have lost track of the SD Copy and suspect that is it no longer available. I have dealt with this issue many times at a forum that I formerly frequent. Most have reported back that this workaround worked for them. It is worth a try. I am looking forward to your results.
If you do opt to upgrade to Premiere Elements 11 Windows (please go tryout before purchase), I am eager to learn how your .mod widescreen is handled by version 11 in your computer environment.
    Thanks.
    ATR
Add On...I just came across this download for SDCopy. It does not give the appearance of the original the link to which is broken. I have not downloaded and used the following since I do not have any .mod widescreen. So, no guarantees. Please let us know the outcome if you try it if Interpret Footage does not work for you.

The whole purpose of that button is so that the file can be recognized... How can I make the "copy as DNG" button work as it is supposed too?? Thank you

Thank you for responding. So I essentially will never be able to use that button in lightroom 5? do I need to get LR 6? Will there ever be an update for LR 5 that will enable me to use it?
Does DNG Converter work within LR or do I have to upload pictures to my computer and then make a second copy in DNG format. and then go into LR and use them?
    Thank you @dj_paige

For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.

  • WB change with digital IR RAW file upon import, no presets applied

    Hi all,
I was doing some digital IR work with my Nikon D50 and a wratten 89b filter. I had set the WB to green grass through the filter. I shot in RAW. Viewing on the LCD, which is, I think, using the embedded JPG in the RAW file, things looked good, with green foliage coming out as it should with the custom WB.
However, upon import, with no develop settings at all, the images basically "lost" their WB and went back to the magenta-looking images that you'd normally get with a daylight WB through the filter. The WB was set in LR as "as-shot."
Any idea what happened? I'll shoot some in JPEG today which will obviously lock the WB in-camera, but it was weird.
    thanks,
    allan

If the JPEG locks the WB for you, you could then, maybe, set the RAW to the same WB setting?
Then maybe a preset for WB might work?

  • Lightroom 5 is auto-developing our canon 7d raw files but not the canon 5d mark 3 files upon import.

Lightroom 5 is auto-developing raw files upon import on the canon 7d but not on the canon 5d mark3. I would prefer to do individual file developing in the develop module.

Go into preferences, select the Presets tab. Hit "Reset all Default Develop Settings". You probably by accident set a default Develop for the 7D. Also check that you don't have a preset selected in the import dialog.

  • Does iPhoto change a RAW file upon import or export?

Hi! New Mac user here. Trying to get my workflows and backups going.
I created an iPhoto library from multiple sources: migration from PC, folders from backup HD, new photos from iPhone and camera memory card.
So I have one consolidated library that is almost 300Gb but I want to go through and remove and archive many of these, leaving only a much smaller working library with the archive copies of some originals stored somewhere else.  These archive copies will not be referenced files, my plan is to export them from iPhoto, back them up to an external HD, and then delete them from the iPhoto library. If I ever decided to look at them again, I would import them from the archive HD.
Ideally, I should have imported all the files to my iMac desktop and then imported only what I wanted into iPhoto, but because everything is now consolidated (and the photos from the iPhone and camera memory card are erased), I don't want to wipe out my iPhoto library and start over. So I'm starting with this huge managed library and want to export a good part of it to what I will call "the archive" to cull it down.
My questions: Upon import, did iPhoto change the RAW master files, or will those be the same when I export them (assuming I made no edits)? Did iPhoto change the JPEGs or will those also be the same when I export them?
How do I export the files I want to save to the archive before deleting them from the iPhoto library?
Alternatively, I think I will use Aperture going forward for editing.  Should I use that instead for trying to export these files?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
    LCA
iMac 4 GB, 2.7 GHz, Intel Core i5
    OS X 10.7.4
    iPhoto 9.3.1
    Aperture 3.3.1

File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue set the Kind to Original
That will export a byte by byte copy of the file you imported, unchanged in any way.
Can I suggest another way of working. Why not have two Libraries? An archive and a working one?
The principle advantage is that you won't have to import pics to review them again later, just open the other library.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

I am having trouble with lightroom 5.6 . my Nikon d4s & d7100 raw files loose saturation & exposure upon import my d800 is fine

Try changing the camera calibration profile to "camera standard" and setting that as the default (hold alt or option and click on the "set default ..." button. Also make sure you do not have dynamic lighting enabled in your camera. This underexposes the raw files and writes an instruction for Nikon software in the nef file that compensates. The result in non-Nikon software is that your files end up underexposed.

  • Missing "File Renaming" and "Destination" areas on the right side of the "Import, Library" module

Not sure why this is happening.  I have uninstalled and installed LR3 three times on my Dell Laptop Running WIN 7.  I have 8 gb RAM and a 750 gig HD.  The processor is an Intel Core i5.  According to the requirements, I should have enough hardware to run LR3.  I have installed the updates so that I am running LR 3.6.  For  some reason, I am unable to locate the "File Renaming" and "Destination" sections on the right hand column.  The "File Handling" and "Apply During Import" are visible.  I have registered the program with Adobe, and believe that I have all of the current updates.  The program loaded in the 64 bit mode.
Has anyone run into this problem before?
I have been unable to get the program to work properly without being able to have access to themissing items for Upload.
