Need to update another users iweb site

I wan't to take over updating duties on another user's iweb site. They can't handle it so they'd like to defer to me. Is there a way to do this?

You will need to obtain their Domain.sites2 file from their computer. It will be located in their User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Copy it to your Desktop, rename it to represent the site name, "Site_Name.sites2", and place in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Then drag that iWeb folder into the left hand pane of any Finder window so you can easily access the contents of that folder and select the site you want to work on.

  • HT1752 I have forgotten my admin password and need to create another user

I have forgotten my admin password and need to create another user. Have no disks to boot from!!

You need an installer disc in order to reset an admin password. I don't know if the following will work on your system, but give it a try:
You can also reset the password by printing out (or writing down) and carefully following these steps.
First, find the short name of the admin user on the machine. The easiest way of doing this is by looking at what their directory is called in the Users folder.
Now, start up the computer while holding down Cmd-S. It should boot into a command line. (If it doesn't, you may need to reset the firmware password, which is detailed elsewhere.)
    Type these exact lines:
    mount -uw /
    ifconfig lo0 up
    cd /var/db/netinfo
    netinfod -s local
Now you'll need that short name. (You did write it down, didn't you?) Type "passwd", a space, and the short name of the admin. For example, if the admin was - rather prosaically - called "admin", you'd type "passwd admin".
The computer will now prompt you to change the password for "admin" (or whatever the short name was). Go ahead and type a new password.
    Now, type:
    sync
    reboot
and the machine will reboot. The admin password should now be changed.

  • Updating & Editing an iWeb Site

I am making a website using iWeb for a PC User and uploading it and giving them the exported iWeb file. Can they update or edit the site I create for them using a PC program such as www.pagebreeze.com or another PC Program? Do you have any suggestions? I won't be uploading it to .mac
    Thanks,
    Flippy

    No, they can't.
Pages created in iWeb cannot be edited outside of the application, in any serious way. Some post processing changes can be made, but not efficiently for a PC user.
Great opportunity to tell them what a great operating system OSX is....

  • Strange! Cannot update extensive, published iWeb site.

I've been trying to research a problem in Discussions similar to my own but cannot come across a satisfactory answer.
For the past two weeks, I've experienced very slow "Publish" updating of my extensive iWeb site. In the last 24 hours, I've been unable to update the webiste at all. Here's the error message:
"Can’t create the file 'shapeimage2_link2.png.' The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
Mind you, I'm well sort of my iDisk capacity, have the current version of iWeb, am running a reliable high-speed connection and have not experienced any hard disk problems that I'm aware of.
I have tried trashing the username/application support/iWeb/Domain file and letting iWeb build a new Domain file — to no avail. I've quit and rebooted — to no avail. I've run Disk Utility — to no avail.
    Suggestions? I'm at wit's end!

Thanks, James, for your always helpful replies and information.
Paul, here are two things I tried with some success. I deleted new blog material — those which hadn't published — and added, then published, each new blog one at a time. Somewhere along the line, one of the new blogs apparently corrupted the ability to publish all of them at once. Also, I launched iWeb, put the Domain file (username/application support/iWeb/Domain) in the trash then published. When prompted to save the new Domain file, I chose the folder where the old one resided. Subsequent publishes have gone a bit smoother.
Still, one wishes iWeb were easier and more reliable for updates.

  • Serious trouble to update / upload my iWeb-Site to MobileMe

I have created a website with iWeb 11 and frequently updated this website from several locations while beeing on the road. Now while it became too many photo albums I restructured the site with a "my albums" site which organizes these photo albums. Now I attempted several times to update / upload the site. But first I became an error message that some file in one photo album would be missing. So I deleted that album and recreated it from scratch. Then I got the error message that the mobileme server wouldn't be avialble. And finally I only got the message that the website could't be published.
I start to get upset. What can I do?
Anything that helps is highly appreciated!

Roxpat ~ Glad that worked out for you (and thanks for your appreciative words.) I'd heard good things about +Media Temple+ a year ago and had prompt responses to my email enquiries about speeds between their center in California and Spain. (In the end, though, I didn't need their services.)
    Roxpat wrote:
I will say that they seem accustomed to users who know what they are doing (that would not be me), and I find it difficult to understand what they are telling me to do.
I agree; this was part of their reply to me:
Well since you are in Spain you would not have the ability to take advantage of our “short path bandwidth”. Although our servers are all enterprise-grade, our data center is Tier 4 certified, and we use redundant fiber backbones to the Internet, there are many other factors involved that dictate the final speed you experience. Therefore, it is really difficult to say what your transfer speeds will be like with our service. We recommend conducting trace routes and ping tests to s1555.gridserver.com for insight into the network speed and routes between your location and (mt) Media Temple's (gs) Grid-Service.
...Yes, I thought, ...let me get onto those +"trace routes and ping tests"+ right away! (Presumably via +Network Utility+ in the Utilities folder.)

  • Can i publish on another's iweb site?

my wife has a web site and will be out of the country for a few weeks and i need to up date it for her
can i edit her site from my computer?

Do you both work off the same computer or from your own computers?  If it's off the same computer then just log into her account and run iWeb from there.
If it's from separate computers you and either user her computer or copy the Domain.sites2 file that is in her your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to your computer.
Next, create a new user account on your computer and put her domain.sites2 file in the Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder for that account.  Then go to the System/MobileMe preference pane for that account and log into her MobileMe account.  Now you an log into that second account on your Mac, launch iWeb and update her site.
To make switching accounts more convenient go to the System/Accounts preference pane and setup Fast User Switching.

Remember when you wife returns you will need to copy the domain.sites2 file you've been using for her back to her computer and replace the old one in her  Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.

  • Updating An Existing iWeb Site?

So, i have a great site, and I'm scratching my head as to figure out how to update my site using iWeb without REPUBLISHING the entire site again. I've searched all throughout iWeb Help but I cannot seem to find anything useful.
    Help Anyone?

That option does not exist in either iWeb 08 or 09. In 08 it was either Publish All to MobileMe or Publish to MobileMe. The Publish option would just publish updated pages rather than the whole site.
In iWeb 09 the option that exists is ftp to MobileMe, ftp to server or send to a folder. I believe that if using 09, if any updates are made, just the changed pages are uploaded instead of the whole site automatically, to MobileMe anyway.

  • Photos on iWeb site

Is it possible to save your iDisk space by putting photos on your .Mac iWeb site from another website you are with. Maybe thats not very clear.... I have a 'pro' flickr account that I bought before I got my .Mac account as a gift. Is it possible to build my .Mac website from the photo's I have already on my Flickr account to save loading them to my iDisk and therefore saving space?
It's just I plan to put a lot of photos on my site and don't want it to eat up all my space. I realise, I could just continue with my photos on Flickr, but I really like the format of the .Mac sites better and plan on selling some of my prints through the site.
    Any help would be great,
    David

I may have read too much into your plans.
I'm not, by any means, an expert with Flickr so bear with me.
IF the files in Flickr are accessible with "http" commands, it's real easy to add a hyperlink in your iWeb site to bring the viewer to Flickr. The minor difficulty is that you want only SOME viewers to reach Flickr. IF Flickr access can be PW-protected, it's a slam-dunk.
If not, it might be a little klutzy. You'll need to create a second iWeb site that's PW-protected. The hyperlink in your main iWeb site brings the viewer to the PW-protected iWeb site and, for those that can access it, another hyperlink will take them to Flickr.

  • How can I share the FCPX library so another user on the same iMac can access and edit it?

I need to let another user access our Library file to add some subtitles to a video I'm editing.
This is a breeze with iMovie now, as I moved the Library to the Users/Shared folder and changed permissions so the other user can read+write.
I tried the same with FCPX and then tried to launch FCPX from the other user's profile, but it wouldn't work saying it needs permissions, even though I did the thing with permissions.
After some playing around, I broke it and had to use that Preference File eraser because the Library stopped working even on my account.
Is there a way to ensure the library can be accessed by both of us, on the same iMac? (Note: I was logged out while trying to get the second user to work).

    Thanks.
If it's in the Shared folder, then for whatever reason FCP is busted and won't work?
Have a 1TB Fusion drive, wouldn't this make editing stuff slower if it's an external drive?

  • Using Update Resource User

    Hi,
I have a requirement where I need to update a user who is not in IDM but in the resource, I need to update few attributes of this user in LDAP.
Here is what I am doing to meet this,
I am calling the subprocess Resource Object Retries where
    op =updateResourceObject,
    objectType=user
user = user object I builtWhich is most similiar to Out-Of-Box workflow Update Resource User
My workflow works fine for when the user in windows NT (not in IDM) is updated, but when I am doing this for a user in LDAP, I am getting Objet class violation (error code =65) . I tried passing object class as
<list>  and  <LIST>   //xml Object  and XPRESS .Still it is the same.
    I need some rescue here.
I was wondering where is the Out-of-box Update Resource User
    method called.
If any one has worked , using updateResourceObject service ,
    help me.
    thanks,
    pandu

    Hi pandu345,
Hint to reduce side effect error - one thing about objectclass violations:
Consult the directory server error log to see which attribute caused the error!
In case you modified the schema to be nonconformant to already existing entries you will always get objectclass violations not matter what you try to modify. (I have suffered that already in a non-IdM-but-ldap environment)

  • How can I export one iWeb site (of two) out to another user

I am working in Lion. I created two iweb sites - one for me and one for another user. I am trying to export the files to that user so he can continue updates. But when i make copies of the site it is linked to my site. How do I separate and export the files to him? Thanks!

    HI Ben,
Unfortunately the other website - let's call it Charles - is not listed separately - it has somehow joined with mine. So if I delete his I delete mine. Something happened when I upgraded to Lion and they became joined' somehow.
I do see the file in Library but I still don't know how to separate them.
    Thanks!

  • Do I need to embed QT movies in my iWeb site if I am using another web host

I am going to be posting my iWeb site to another web hosting service (bluehost.com). Does anybody know if I will need to embed the QuickTime movies I have on my site. Do I need to purchase QuickTime Pro to accomplish this task? How difficult is embedding the QuickTime movies to a non.Mac web hosting service?
    Many thanks for your assistance

I believe that as long as you drag and drop your QT movies into iWeb, it will embed the QT movies for you when you "publish to folder." Then all you will need to do is upload the folder to your webhost.
No need to buy QTPro unless you are trying to convert from one format to another.
    Good luck!
