Need to Upgrade Computer...What Steps to Re-Hook-Up Verizon?

Hi,
Our 2003 HP is overdue a retirement and I think I'm going to buy a replacement for Christmas as a gift for the family.  We currently have high-speed DSL and I don't know what I need to do to changeover to a new computer.  Do I use the installation CD which came with the initial package and reinstall?  If so, will it recognize that I am an existing customer, or will it create new user and account information.  I've looked through some of the original documentation and cannot locate any directions on this topic.  Is there a link to a page on the Verizon site?
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thanks,
APB

I'm using the DSL wireless router which came from Verizon, roughly two years old.  Westgate, I think is the brand.
So, if what you guys are saying is correct, there are no "Verizon-specific" software items which will need to be reinstalled.
I'm only asking because I have a variety of Verizon shortcuts on the desktop which were installed back when I initially hooked up and ran the installation CD.  Most are shortcuts which basically take me to 'My Verizon' and 'Verizon Support', etc., so I guess I could create new ones on the new computer (I don't use any of these anyway).
If all I have to do is hook the modem cable to the computer, great!!

  • Needing to upgrade computer...but what works with CS5.5?

I currently am running PCs and CS5.5. I need to upgrade my computers and while I'd love to move to MAC, I've heard that I'd also need to upgrade to 6.0 in order to switch platforms. Is that true? If so, it's a complete bummer! I can't afford to upgrade everything right now. :(
So, if I must stick with a PC, will the CS5.5 work on Windows 8? That is the only thing I can find right now.

You won't know until you try. CS5.5 was never tested on Win 8. Should generally work, but depending on the actual configurstion there could of course be issues.

  • HT1443 I have an imac running os 10.4.11 and need  to upgrade. What is the procedure and how high should i go as far as what os?

    Help?

    First:
What specific iMac model do you have?
Why do you need to upgrade?
Are you prepared to spend money on upgrading?
To find out what model you have open System Profile in the Utilities folder and report what you find displayed for the Model Identifier.

  • Need to upgrade computer to be able to play GTA V at medium settings

Hi, right now I have a crappy HP Pavilion Desktop that can't even run GTA IV probably, and it's slow as hell. I wanted to know if there's anyway I can upgrade the computer (under a 400$ budget) to be able to play Grand Theft Auto V at medium settings?
    Thanks,
    A

WatchDogsPerson, welcome to the forum. Here are the system requirements for GTA IV.  According to them you will have to upgrade the video card and the power supply unit (PSU).  I suggest a PSU with at least 500W.  This will assure that you have enough power to run the card that you choose.  I like Corsair products.  The video cards newer than the GTX 640 require UEFI in the motherboard rather than a standard Legacy BIOS.  There are not that many of the older cards available. I am going to add my opinion.  Since your computer is 7 years old, if it were me, I would save my money and buy a new computer.  You can buy a new computer for several hundred dollars more than you want spend to upgrade your current computer.  Any new computer will be light-years ahead of your current technology.  Here is a good example.  You will have to use your current monitor.  I don't like to see anyone spend money on a computer that may or may not do what they want to do with it. Please click the "Thumbs up + button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

    Yes, windows to Mac too.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

what do i need to get IOS5 if im running 10.5.8, do i need many upgrades?

What iOS device do you have? You need one capable of running iOS5 plus the latest version of iTunes.
If you want iCloud you'll need Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion plus a Mac capable of running that.

  • I need to upgrade my operating system, Mac OS 10.7.5, and want to know which one to use.

How can I upgrade my macbook pro Mac OS X 10.7.5?

So that is what is listed as the OS X version your Mac is now running?
If so then you have Lion. Again why do you think you need to upgrade? What did the store tell you that makes you think you need to upgrade? Are you having some type of incompatibility with some other Apple device?
You can upgrade to Mt Lion for $20 or Mavericks for free if your Mac meant the system requirements for those other versions of OS X.
But the real question is still why do you need to do this upgrade. There has to be an underlying reason for it.

You can only get Snow Leopard from Apple's on-line store, you didn't state what part of the planet  you're on. If you happen to be in the US  the link is http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard. If you are not in the US then look below for the store in your country.

  • I have iPage 5.2 but when I try to download it says I need to upgrade

I have iPage 5.2 but when I try to download it says I need to upgrade.  What am I doing wrong?

I think you mean when you try to open a file, not download.
Probably you have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 110 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later.
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model
                 Identifier 5,1 or later.
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later.
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • What steps do i need to take to upgrade from OS X 10.5.8 to Lion?

    Hi
Does anyone know what steps I need to take to upgrade from OS X 10.5.8 to Lion?
    Lisa

First check to see if your Mac meets the basic system requirements for Lion:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html
Once you have satisfied yourself that you have the hardware to run it then you can take the next steps which will be to get upgraded to Snow Leoppard in order to have the App Store on the computer.

  • I have a Mac mini OSX 10.4.11 Intel Core Duo, 512mb, 1.83 GHz with iTunes 9.0.3. What steps do I need to take to get my music library to my iPad. I dont think I meet the requirements to just upgrad to snow leopard and/or lion. I want the music I paid for

I have a Mac mini OS X 10.4.11, intel core duo processor (not core 2 duo), with 512 mb and 1.83 GHz processor.  I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system.  I want to get my purchased music from the Mac mini to a different computer (that has the latest version of iTunes) and also my iPad.  The Mac mini does not meet the requirements listed to simply upgrade to snow leopard or lion. As far as I can tell.  Forgive me if I am lacking here...this is new to me.  What can I do to get the music transferred.  I have invested alot of money over the past few years on all this music that I should be able to transfer.  Thank you in advance if you can help me.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • Just bought a 5C iphone and when I when I tried to download everything from my computer it won't let me because I need to upgrade the IOS.  Unfortunately my apple computer is older so it won't let me download.  What else can I do?

I just bought a iphone 5c and when I tried to use my computer to download the syncd version of my phone I found out I needed the latest version of the IOS.  I tried downloading the latest version and it won't let me do it unless I upgrade.  What else can I do?  I don't want to buy a new computer....

If you want to synch your iPhone with iTunes on your computer, you will need to meet the minimum requirements.  If this requires you to upgrade your computer then you will need to do so.  System requirements for the iPhone 5c are clearly posted on Apple's website and this should have been considered before you bought your phone.  There's no way around the system requirements.
