Need to upgrade form 6 application

We have a custom application build on form 6. It's very old now rather obsolete and company wants to upgrade it to latest technology.
Can anyone please help on identifying which version we should upgrade to or will will it better to rebuild the application from scratch. Should we use latest form version for this upgrade or its better to migrate to latest OAF or ADF technology.
Also can we have a similar application build on APEX.
Any roadmap towards this upgrade or migration will be highly appreciated.
Thanks for advise.
Regards,
Vijay.

or its better to migrate to latest OAF or ADF technology.Going to ADF or any other technology will be rarely a migration but may also include a redesign of your application, for its a different technology with different capabilities.
Also can we have a similar application build on APEX.A general answer to the question Migrate, go to ADF or go to APEX is not possible in my eyes. It depends on many factors. You should check what are the requirements and which technology best fits for it.
If you have a large "well-running" forms-application it may be the "easiest" way to just migrate to forms 10G for you can keep all your modules and code and do a real "migration", but, as said before, it depends on what you want to achieve.
Any roadmap towards this upgrade or migration will be highly appreciated. This maybe a good starting point http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/upgrade/index.html

  • I have an iMac using the app numbers.  Can't open spreadsheets because program is telling me I need to upgrade my numbers application but app updates is telling me it is already updated and there is nothing I need to do.  What can I do?

Cant open Iworks-Numbers application.  Computer is telling me I need to update numbers application in order open spreadsheet.  Progran is already updated.  This problem started yesterday.  Any suggestions?  Sounds like many other users are having the same problem.

Are you launching Numbers from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Numbers from there then right-click on the Dock icon & select Options > Keep in Dock.
Installing new versions of iWork has never replaced existing versions. This is nothing new. The only thing new is that the '09 apps are moved to an iWork '09 folder if they were purchased from the Mac App Store. If they were installed from disk they should already be in a separate folder in Applications.

  • When I upgrade to Lion, will I need to upgrade all my Applications too?

I'm assuming iLife and iWork and other Apple applications will work. But what about stuff like Adobe Master Suite CS5 or any games/apps I've got out of the App store? Will they provide an update to make them work on Lion or will I have to re-purchase all my software?
This is my first time upgrading my Mac OS, thanks!

  • Upgrading form 5.0.6.18.1 TO 6i

    Hello All,
Our current Oracle forms 5.0.6.18.1 are existing on NT 4.0 Server.
Now direct support of NT 4.0 is closed.
I have moved all Oracle forms (fmx & fmb ) to window XP.
Now I need to upgrade Oracle forms 5.0 to 10g.
Direct support for 10g is not available for this upgrade.
So I need to upgrade forms 5.0 to 6i first and then from 6i to 10g.
I moved all fmbs & fmx to windows XP but I do not have form builder 5.0.6.18.1.
Can I just install form builder 6i and start upgrade?
Can any one give me some kind of summary or direct me any good documentation to acheive my goals?
    Regards,
    D

    Steve,
    This is interesting.
    I will try this later.
    Here I have another issue.
I am upgrading Oracle forms 5.0.6.18.1 to Oracle Forms 6i on different OS.
    * Forms 5.0 are installed on NT.4.
    * I have installed Oracle Forms 6i developer suite on my new Windows XP machine.
I have copied all fmbs & rdf from windows NT to Window XP.
    I have downloaded p3596539_600_WINNT.zip.
    http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_gui.startup
Now I want to run following recommended patch.
You can see setup.exe file under p3596539.
I have open or double click on setup.exe file.
    I got message as follows:
The publisher could not be verified.
Are you want to run this software?
    Name: setup.exe
    Publisher: unknown publisher
    Type: Application
    If I clicks on run.
    Nothing action incurred.
    Am I missing some thing?
Please suggest me from your experience.

  • Need experience on FORM Template for custom system development

    Hi,
I need to use FORM BUILDER+Application Server to do development for a custom system(No relation to EBS).
There are many screens need to development, and I want to make these screen look like in the same style, I need to a TMPLATE.fmb to guide developers to do work.
Is there any body have the similar experience?
If there is one good template, that will be good.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Set default values to Property Classes and the Visual Attributes, then store them in an Object Library for a reuse purpose. You can also group them into Object Groups to simplify the job.
Create a Forms module that include all stuff required to your every underlying modules (drop from the Object Library with "reference" option).
When this template form is complete, you can derive other modules from it, via the File -> New -> New module from template... menu.
Once you have created one Property Class for the different Items (Text Item, Display Item, CheckBox,...) ask your developer(s) to use these classes for all created items in the new module.

  • Upgrade Search Service Applications

Is there any reason why we want to upgrade the service applications (using database attach) like secure store, user profile, search service.. rather than re-creating them manually? We are trying to upgrade from SP 2010 to SP 2013 and was stuck
figuring out how to go with service applications.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi  AparnaT,
There are six service applications that we can be upgraded: business data connectivity, performance point service, search service, user profile service, managed meta data web service and secure store service.
All of them have databases  which contains many important data. Such as the Business Data Connectivity service uses a database to store information about external data, the Managed Metadata service uses a database to store metadata information, the Search
service application Administration database contains settings for the Search service application such as content sources, crawl rules, start addresses, server name mapping, and federated locations, the
User Profile service uses databases to store profile, social, and sync information. So we need to upgrade the service applications rather than re-creating them manually.

  • Need to upgrade Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.3

    Dear All,
I am having bit doubts on choosing the Application server down load file from the Oracle site. Currently we are using Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 Forms and Report service. I need to up grade the Forms and Report service to 10.1.3 version of the Application Server 10g .
If I select the Application Server 10g Release 3 from the site its directing me to the big selection list. Actually i bit confused which one i need to choose. I need to upgrade only the Forms and Report service Application Server 10g .Iam sure somebody can help me to solve this confusion. I appreciated ans thanks your attention in my query.
    regards
    Mathew

    Hi Mathew,
If I am not mistaken, there is no Forms and Reports version 10.1.3. There is an Application Server version 10.1.3.x but this is a J2EE only release. Forms and Reports have not been bundled in this version.
Could it be that you are mistaken with version 10.1.2.3 which is a patch set on top of Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 ? If this is the case, you can apply the patch set as per directions in the readme from the patch set. The patch set is available from [My Oracle Support|http://updates.oracle.com/download/5983622.html].
    Thanks,

Am running  Tiger 10.4.11; just got Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (regular OS disk, not upgrade).  When I install Snow Leopard, will it wipe everything?  overwrite Tiger?  Do I need to make backups of applications and files to reinstall after Snow Leopard Loads?  thanks!

    Hi Donald,
No it doesn't erase anything by default, it does what we used to call an  Archive and Install feature, which can give you a new OS, yet preserve your files and settings if you have enough room on your HD...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
But it does it automatically unless you specifically erase the Disk, but will replace Tiger completely for the OS & several Apple Apps like Safari, Mail, etc, yet preserve your old settings for those!
If you think you may need Tiger to run any APPs that do not work in SL/10.6, then clone or backup first.
I would recomend 2 things before installing though...
Make sure you have enough RAM & HD space.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the new Mac OS X SL/10.6 Install Disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Do i need to reinstall programs and applications like FCP after upgrading to the new Lion OS?

I've installed Lion over Snow Leopard and all my non Apple software is still here - you may want to check if your software will work with Lion and I would definately recommend having a bootable backup in case anything goes wrong

    Glenn,
I tried upgrading to leopard, even bought the software and brought it home but it wouldn't let me. So i went back to apple, gave them the specifications of the machine and been told my machine is simply too old for leopard. This is incredible to me because it really isn't THAT old (i think just a little over 6 years maybe) and yet i'm left out on the curb when it comes to using newer apple products. I understand technology moves on but the mindset that i am supposed to dump a perfectly working machine after a couple of years or face not being able to use any other apple product is counter to what thought apple was about.

  • Help needed on upgrading portal application from sp3 to weblogic portal 10

    Hi Guys
I have an application which is currently running on BEA Weblogic Portal 8.1 sp3. We need to upgrade our application from 8.1 sp3 to BEA Weblogic 10 version.
    (1) Is there any way for upgradation from 8.1 sp3 to portal 10 directly or do I need to upgrade it from sp3 to sp4 and then from sp4 to portal 10? Pls clarify?
    (2) How reliable are the BEAs automated scripts for retaining the personalization/customization of my application on sp3 to upgraded version i.e portal 10?
    (3) I believe, we do not need to do any coding/design changes/architectural changes into my application for this upgrade.
Any help on this will be highly appreciated
    Thanks
    Jameel

    1) I believe only sp4 and later to weblogic 10 is supported (http://www.bea.com/content/news_events/white_papers/BEA_WL_Portal10_ds.pdf)
so yes i think you need to upgrade from sp3 to a later version of the service pack
    2) You tell us :)
    3) Depends on your application and the features you have used. E.g. I believe Content management has changed between sp3 and what 10 supports.
