Need to upgrade from Internet Explorer to Firefox

I'm running Internet Explorer 5.2 for Mac, and downloaded Firefox 2.0.0.2, but when I try to install it, I get "Image name: Firefox 2.0.0.2--Image format: UDIF read-only--Checksum: CRC32 $6DBEAAAF INVALID---Unable to verify "Firefox 2.0.0.2.dmg"
In the "Open with App" box, under "to open UDIF device", I get "Disk Copy 10.1--created with: "not available"
If I disable the checksum, I can get the Firefox logo to appear, but when I double-click on it, a box appears saying "Firefox has unexpectedly quit"
Possibly the download was incomplete, as I have to use a dial-up where I'm lucky to get 28.8K, but it said "complete"
Am I doomed to Internet Explorer 5.2 FOREVER?

Have you considered upgrading to a newer version of OS X?
Here is some information, to assist you in that endeavor.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
Once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.8 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Jaguar and Panther, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
If you know what to look for, Jaguar Full Retail CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, FastMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
The discs should look like the images in the above links, unless purchased from AppleRescue.

Software Update, Upgrade: What's The Difference?
Before upgrading to any OS X version, check to see if your Mac needs a Firmware Update.
If one is required, you must start the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk, not from a CD, in order to install it.
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 Combo Update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version of either OS.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update, or the Intel 10.4.8 Combo Update.

I switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox and was so happy. Then I took the prompt and converted to Firefox 4.0 and now my computer is so slow it is almost unbearable. How do I switch back to Firefox 3 or some earlier version to get my speed back?

It takes a long time for the computer to warm up and start working, maybe 30 seconds. Just to open an email can take 10 seconds. This is the kind of delay I was experiencing on Internet Explorer before I switched to Firefox 3. It is particularly slow if I am opening a photo attachment. To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. See https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use
your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of
installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

Since I switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox, the Celeb Daily link I've always visted will no longer show the images / pictures. Cannot figure out why.

Celeb Daily is a celeb picture site that you can vote a rating of 12 different pics "daily". Since switching from Int. Exp. to Firefox they no longer come up, only texts & boxes. What gives? I am far from computer savvy. Don't go all technical on me if it's fixable. Thanx.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

I have followed instructions for importing favorites from Internet Explorer, but they do not show up in Bookmarks menu as shown in the support instructions.

I just downloaded Firefox 3.6 and followed the instructions for importing Favorites from Internet Explorer. Firefox said the import was successful, but the Favorites do not appear at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu (below "Mozilla Firefox") as shown in the Support instructions. You can usually find the imported IE Favorites in a folder ("From Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks). 
If you can't find them in the "From Internet Explorer" folder then try this:
* Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
* Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

If you did not have Firefox before your bookmarks would be from Internet Explorer, if you chose IE.
It should have put what was in your bookmark toolbar in IE into your folder "'''Bookmarks Toolbar'''" which you can see in the bookmarks sidebar ("Ctrl+B") as one of three major folders -- "'''Bookmarks Toolbar'''", "'''Bookmarks Menu'''", and "'''Unsorted Bookmarks'''". You will probably find your favorites separated into each of those three folders.

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.

Pages requested from Internet Explorer are loaded to a Firefox window instead.

I just started getting "Secure Connection Failed" upon trying to log into a financial website that always worked before, so I decided to see if the same problem existed using Internet Explorer. I terminated Firefox, then started IE, which came up OK with my blank home page. But when I entered the URL for the website's login page, instead of coming up in the IE window, a Firefox window automatically started up, and the requested page came up there instead. So basically, I'm prevented from using IE for anything.

When you enter the URL for a website in the Internet Explorer browser, the page should open in Internet Explorer. It is then possible that clicking other links within that website could open in Mozilla Firefox if Firefox is set as your default browser. You'd need to ensure that Internet Explorer is set as the default browser.
As this is the Firefox forum, I'd suggest checking the Microsoft forum for further assistance on your Internet Explorer settings.

I am unable to print (any website) from the latest Firefox, but print fine from Internet Explorer. Using Windows Vista on a desktop machine.

printer advances page and spits it out with either nothing or a single garbled line printed on it instead of a whole web page. This is independent of which web site and even happens with web sites that have a specific PRINT or PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION button. Printing is fine from Internet Explorer. Unsure about Chrome. Printing from Firefox worked fine until I downloaded newest version. Operating system is Windows Vista on a 64 bit desktop computer.
