Hi, i just got a new iPhone 4 - when i try to sync it to my laptop - it says i need 10.5.8 - my laptop is only 10.4.11. I have the software DVD for my work CU - it is 10.5.6, but the DVD doesn't work in my laptop. Am i able to upgrade my laptop from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 - if so can someone help me out with how!?!? dave

The situation is that in Hong Kong, I bought the iPhone 5 for my mainland China friend.
The seller said that the iPhone 5 was brand new and was come from USA.
I found that iPhone 5 was in iOS 8.1. I wonder that why brand new iPhone 5 would be installed in iOS8.1?
My friend finds that the response of iPhone 5 is so late.
He prefers to downgrade to iOS 7.1.2.

I think there is no direct path available and you need to upgrade from 8.1.1 to 8.6.x and upon from 8.6.x to 9.1 version.

You need to use a newer Mac OS X version. A G4 can be upgraded to 10.5.8(if desired, buy a retail DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay), but you'll likely find it more cost-effective to buy a secondhand Intel Mac.

Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

If it is photoshop elements 1, there is no database (catalog) to backup, since pse 1 did not have an organizer.
The organizer started with photoshop elements 3 on windows and photoshop elements 9 on macs.
Just verify that in fact it is photoshop elements 1 by going to Help>About Photoshop Elements

I just received my iPhone 4 and was devastated when I learned (the hard way) that it would not sync to iTunes because I'm running 10.4.11. Please, if anyone can help me through the steps of upgrading to 10.5.8 I would be forever grateful.

Some people really love it, it does have better Security & support for more modern APPs, but I personally don't like the "Eye Candy" with my very poor vision, I do not like how most everything has changed & seems just another step or three to get where I want to be to set a setting for instance, and although I still use Tiger/10.4.11 to get my real work done... 99% percent would call me CRAZY, and 92.375% of them would likely be right!
Still, OS 10.5.x is the very last OS that will run on PPC Macs, you'll definitely wish you had it someday.

My USB cable for iphone is not recognized on my laptop

Uninstall itunes and use regedit to search And remove everything related to itunes
And reinstall
