  • How to upgrade OSX from 10.5.8

Need to know how to upgrade OSX from 10.5.8 to latest version that will run on my Power Book Pro
    Intel Core 2 Duo

Purcahse from Apple the Snow Leopard install DVD and install that.
    Then upgrade to the 10.6.8
From there with the App Store you will be able to upgrade to whatever your MBP will support.

  • How can I upgrade iPhoto from 8.1.2 but without upgrading OSX from 10.6.8?

I have an iMac ca. 2008 vintage which is currently running OSX 10.6.8. Due to various problems I had to do a restore and everything worked OK afterwards except iPhoto (v. 8.1.2.). When I try to launch it I get the error message "iPhoto cannot be opened because of a problem" - Error log below.
As I understand it I cannot reinstall the original version of IPhoto that came ready loaded on the iMac. On the App Store the only version of iPhoto available requires Yosemite and I don't want to upgrade to that.
    Any advice?

Not sure why you "understand" that you can not reinstall the original version - you can reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first
But the error looks like you may need to reinstall the OS as you are missing sme required system elements

  • Can I upgrade OSX from 10.5.8 to snow leopard?

Can anyone help by telling me if I can upgrade to 10.6 snow leopard?

If you have a PowerPC Mac, no. If you have an Intel Mac, phone the Apple Store and order it. If you don't know, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu.

  • COMPLETE NOVICE , LOOKING TO UPGRADE OSX FROM 10.3.9

I'm running 10.3.9 on a G4 iMAC(PPC) and would like to update the Operating system.
Ive been given conflicting reports as to if this is possible or not. CAN YOU TELL ME: (1) What is the most current operating system i can run on my machine
    (2) Do i have to step up through the versions , or can i jump to the most current from the off
    (3) What are the risks when upgrading
    (4) Will i have a limited service if i install a higher version of the OS on my machine
    (5) can you recommend any good install guides as i have never done it before
Im sorry if these seem like basic questions , and i can promise you that 90% of the time i am a very competent and switched on person , but i am very new to this platform and don't want to (for want of a better word) BALLS it up!!
    Thanks

    Hello tek:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
    In order:
    1. Look at the specifications for OS X 10.5:
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    512MB of memory
    DVD drive for installation
    9GB of available disk space
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's .Mac service; fees apply.
If your computer (I cannot tell that from the profile) meets those, that is the latest that will run.
    2. You do not have to +"step up through the versions."+
    3. No way to really answer that. Most people have no trouble. It is ALWAYS a good idea to have a +good backup/restore strategy+ before any software changes.
    4. I do not understand the question.
    5. Apple's step by step directions are very good (they are included with the software).

    Hi,
    I have a macbook 2.1 with 2Go RAM running 10.6.8

What is my best option to cotinue getting updates:
    stay in snow leopard?
    install lion?
I can't find lion in the app store. How can I get it?
    Thanks

Snow Leopard will not be updated beyond v10.6.8

  • Sometimes my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I am running a pretty powerful work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network, is it a hard drive issue? do I need to "clean out" the computer?

Many times my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I have wireless internet (time capsule) and I am running a pretty powerful real time financial work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network? is it a hard drive issue? do I only need to "clean out" the computer? Or all of the above...not to computer saavy.  It is a Macbook Pro  osx 10.6.8 (late 2010).

Almost certainly none of the above!  Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari;  move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

  • I am trying to upgrade Mac OSX from 10.7.4 10 .7.5 .But, the grey screen is coming for hours.  What should i do?

i am trying to upgrade Mac OSX from 10.7.4 10 .7.5 .But, the grey screen is coming for hours.  I pressed the alt key and was taken to options viz. Restart to install MAC again, use time machine. I don't have back-up and so restarted to install MAC again. Can i cancel this now. I want my data to be secure. What should i do?

If you cancel an install there's no telling what state it will leave your Mac in. Let it finish or fail.
Then get a disk, it can even be a pocket drive if it's large enough and back up all your own data.
After that, boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
The screen should give you these choices...
    Restore from TM backup
    Reinstall Mac OS X
    Get help online
    Disk Utility
First run Disk Utility Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed". Then, choose Reinstall OS X.

  • Can't open iPhoto "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." Doesn't work...

I've tried to open my iPhoto and a message box opens up and reads "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." I update this and this message continues to pop up. I've even tried to rebuild it, but no matter what I do the same message appears and iPhoto still wpn't open. Can somebody please help me?!

i'm having the same problem with my iMac (Mac OS X 10.7.5) . i haven't really made any updates to it and yesterday when i tried to access the iPhoto library of my MBP (from my iMac) is when problems started. The iPhoto on the iMac initially said I need to install the recent version of the iPhoto. Since I can't find a 9.0 download, I went to buy the iPhoto on the App store.
When I tried to install iPhoto (version 9.4.3) to the iMac, I got this message:
The iPhoto Library Upgrader is a tool that prepares libraries from iPhoto 5 or earlier, so you can upgrade them with the current version of iPhoto. You can download the tool here.
Note: If your library is from iPhoto 6 or later, this tool is not required."
I then installed the iPhone Library Upgrader, but I got the same prompt:
'You can't open your current photo library using this version of the iPhoto. You have made changes to your library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I guess this takes me back to square one? I am inclined to buy the iLife on eBay with the iPhoto 9.0 version, but needed to know if this is the case before I unfortunately bite the bullet.

No, unless you break something or install the wrong RAM, new RAM is not covered by warranty/AppleCare of course.

  • How can I transfer or release one of OSX from my Apple ID?

    Hi all,
I had a MacBook Air with 10.7.x pre-installed. When I open it, I registered it to my account.
Then I bought a new version of MacBook Air and forward my old one to my colleague. For sure I registered the new one's to my Apple ID too. A year later I upgraded it to 10.8 too.
Now my colleague has some issue and he needs to format and reinstall MacOSX of old version like pre-installed one. But installation does not continue with his Apple Id (for sure). There is no choice for me to release it or re-register...
Question is this : How can I transfer or release one of OSX from my Apple ID and my colleague can registered it on his name?
I seems I have 2x OSX. I can continue to give my ID and install again. But I don't want. (I checked community but issue is not exactly the same, therefore I opened this again)
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Cenk

When you sell a machine with Lion or Mountain Lion preinstalled, you need to use Internet Recovery before selling it:
Hold Command + Option + R keys while booting up or restarting and, once connected to Apple's servers, go to Disk Utility and erase the drive. The servers will then automatically reinstall the original system version. That install then will not be associated with your Apple ID and the buyer will be able to reinstall if necessary. You should have also unregistered your machine on Apple's website.

Sign in, choose the Mac to delete and then click on unregister.
