Need to wipe PC, will I lose ratings?

HI,
I need to wipe my PC and re-install.
If I copy my itunes folders to external HD and bring back in will I lose all my ratings?
does my documents/my music/itunes contain everything I need (.itl file etc).
Anything else I need to keep in mind?
I'm aware of not syncing iPod after installing itunes...
Thanks,
Patrick.

Yes.
Make sure you are copying the entire *iTunes folder*.

  • I backed up my phone.  Got a new phone.  Should I delete old backup since I need the storage?  Will I lose anything?

I backed up my phone.  Got a new phone.  Should I delete old backup since I need the storage?  Will I lose anything?

I would restore the new ios device with the old backup it would make the new device have the same data as the only without it causing problems

  • If my itunes is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled, will I lose all my songs? What do I need to do to keep everything?

I cannot open itunes.  When I click on it a message pops up saying that itunes is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.  If I reinstall it will I lose all my songs?  I have over 2,000 songs that I cannot lose!  What do I need to do to fix it and keep all my songs?

Aha, a somewhat different question. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I just upgraded my OS X 10.6.4 to Mavericks and now my iPhoto '09 needs an upgrade.  Will I lose all my photos if I do the upgrade?

I upgraded my two Macbook Pro's yesterday to Mavericks, from OS X 10.6.4.  I can't seem to open iPhoto on ONE of them.   I believe it's the same on both computers, iPhoto '09.  So I went in the App store and clicked upgrade my iPhoto. Now it says the library needs to be upgraded to work with this newer version of iPhoto.  Help!  Am I going to lose all my photos?

I believe it's the same on both computers, iPhoto '09.
Check the iPhoto versions. The version number should be shown below in the "General" section of the Info panel, when you select iPhoto in the Finder and use "File > Get Info".  With Mavericks you should be using iPhoto 9.5.1.  You can buy the upgrade from the App Store.
Will I lose all my photos if I do the upgrade?
No, but never do an upgrade without making a backup of your computer, just in case something is wrong.
Your photos are in your iPhoto library. After installing the upgraded version,  the iPhoto Library will be upgraded to a new format, when you open it the first time in iPhoto.
If you want to use your iPhoto Library on both your computers, the iPhoto version should be the same.

  • When I open my itunes account i get a pop up that says itunes cannot open because it is missing some files, please reinstall itunes. What do I need to do? Will I lose all of my music?

I am trying to open my iTunes and a pop up says it cant open because files are missing.  it also says please reinstall itunes.  What do i do? Will i lose all of my music?

Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
    Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", and click "Change". Select "Repair" and click "Next" as per the following screenshot:
Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • I need to uninstall/reinstall will I lose the songs I didn't purchase through ITunes?

For some reason I am getting a message to uninstall and reinstall ITunes.  Not all the songs in my library were purchased at the ITunes store.  Will I lose these songs during the uninstall/reinsall process?

no your music files arnt stored in itunes so uninstalling and reinstalling wont delete them.
If anything you might have to locate the files and reopen thim in itunes to put them back in your library. If thats the case...this should help you find your music files to put them back.
Where are my iTunes files located?

  • Macbook got stolen, if i sync iphone with new comp will i lose everything??

Hi all - desperate for help. As mentioned above, my macbook was stolen and now im trying to sync my iphone with my sony vaio, for greater fear that i'll all the data on my iphone that i've already lost on the macbook should it get stolen or damaged, it says that it'll wipe everything...which is exactly what i don't need!
I realise that music had on the laptop cannot be saved again on another machine, but here are the main concerns that i hope you might be able to help me with:
    1) What happens to my apps? If I do a sync now and it wipes? Will i lose all my apps and have to purchase/download/pay for them again? What about extensions of apps, for example, I use iNavX (a marine GPS chart application), and downloaded relevant maps (rather costly) - will i still be able to save them somehow?? Esp given that i am waiting for an iPad i ordered to be delivered to me and i was hoping for a way to transfer them over to it.
    2) What happens to music & movie purchases?
    3) What happens to contacts? If I have a .me account is there some way for me to push my contacts over to it directly from the iphone?
    4) Will i lose all my pictures?
What would your advice be in my situation...to sync and lose everything else or keep everything i have as it is and fingers crossed i never lose/damage the iphone.

Hi there, I have at some point, but I think it's all very messy. As in, I've added random folders of TV Shows and Music to that iTunes folder that i saved as backup a long time ago...what do you think? try it anyway? Thing is though, the Vaio im using is my boyfriend's so he's got his own stuff on iTunes as well...how do i merge the libraries? or can i somehow open iTunes up with an external HDD library?

  • HT4623 Will I lose my photos and information if I restore and update?

I just received the following message when updating my phone.  It says my phone is in recovery mode and I need to restore.  Will I lose my photos and information if I restore and update?

IF your phone is in recovery mode, then all data is off the phone already.
You will need to restore your phone but you can use your icloud or itunes backup to get your information back.
I assume you back up on a regular basis right?

  • I need to upgrade my Macbook Pro from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. Will I lose any files on my drive if I do that?

I have a Macbook Pro running 10.4.11. I am trying to upgrade from that to Snow Leopard then to 10.7.5. I know that I have to do it in steps. My question ins this. I have a Snow Leopard disk that came with my Imac that I can use to upgrade my laptop. When I go through the process, it says something about using Timeline to restore. Am I going to lose all of my files? All I need is for the OS to be updated. Will it be safe to go through with it or will I lose all of my files on the drive. Any answers to this question are much appreciated.

You can't use the Mac OS X disc that came with another computer to upgrade another Mac because it's not supported. Buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You shouldn't lose data, but you must make a backup before

  • Need new apple ID, no longer want to share. What data will I lose?

My friend has been sharing an apple ID with her husband, but it has created some problems. They both have iPads and iPhones. Now she wants to create a new apple ID so that things are separate. I have backed up her iPad and don't know how to proceed. I want her to still be able to have access to the photos, contacts, notes, etc that she took when the iPad had the old ID. Will she lose all of that if she creates a new ID? Can't she still keep apps bought with the old ID and just never update them? I've seen that done. She has a Bible app that she takes notes in at church. How would she retrieve those notes? I always hear about things being backed up to the cloud, but when you go to iCloud.com there are no icons for those apps or for photos. How does one access the data saved on apps?
The big question is: do I need to restore her iPad and iPhone to factory settings? Or can I just go into settings and change something? I saw a forum about people having problems with that. She has created a separate account on her macbook, so she has a brand new iTunes. Do I need to change anything in iTunes? I'm afraid that once I connect the devices to a different iTunes, everything will be erased. I appreciate your help. I know I have a lot of questions. Thanks.

Set up your own iCloud account with your own separate ID.  The ID you use for iCloud does not need to be the same as the ID used for other services such as the iTunes and App stores.  You can still share an ID for iTunes purchases and have a separate ID for iCloud.

  • Hello. So I have used my iPod touch 4g for 2 years now and need to change the battery. My question is: will I lose everything I have on my iPod like my music, pictures and apps if I change the battery on my iPod touch 4g?

hello. So I have used my iPod touch 4g for 2 years now and need to change the battery. My question is: will I lose everything I have on my iPod like my music, pictures and apps if I change the battery on my iPod touch 4g?
    Thanks for answer

If you go to Apple, they will not replace your battery, but exchange your iPod for a refurbished iPod of the same model with a new battery.  Therefore you will lose everything that is not backed up.  If you change it yourself or have a third party change it, you will most likely not lose anything (but still best to make a backup as lllaass suggested).

  • HT1420 i need to reauthorize a computer that no longer works. i understand that in order to do this i need to deauthorize all computers using iTunes. will i lose my library when i try and authorize a new computer ?

i need to de-authorize a computor that no longer works. i undersatnd that i need to de-authroize all computors associated with this acount and then authrorize each computor that i want. question : will i lose my music libary??

No, you won't lose anything. De-authorising only means not allowing a computer to play purchased content but it won't delete the file.

  • I too need to re install Bonjour, If I uninstall iTunes and re install i tunes, will I lose all my music?

I accidently uninstalled Bonjour and need to re install it.
If I do what is suggested and uninstall i tunes and reinstall it, will I lose all my songs etc that I already have on i tunes?

No. They will be right where you left them after re-installing iTunes.
Either way, you should be backing this content up anyways.
