Need TOSLink to either HDMI or USB Audio Converter

I'd like to input my entire Audio CD collection to my MacBook Pro with Retina Display via a Sony changer which has TOSLink audio out.
Since the MBPwRD doesn't have a digital audio input jack, I think a TOSLink to HDMI/USB converter will be the only way I'll be able to use the Sony changer rather than a SuperDrive.
I'm not even sure if I'll be able to totally automate importing 300+ CDs but even if I have to manually advance the changer to the next CD, it would be a heck of a lot easier than using the SuperDrive.
I'm currently searching the Internet for such a converter but not having much luck so far.

Hold the alt/option key while clicking on the volume icon in the bar at the top right of the screen (on the desktop not in iTunes) - this should list available audio output/input devices to choose from.

You can output audio thru HDMI, with appropriate adapter.
You can use additional cheap external usb audio for monitoring.

  • Unable to get sound from new ATV installation using either HDMI or optical audio to Bose receiver.  Good video using HDMI.

Need help setting up my Apple TV.  I have good video, but no audio using either the HDMI cable by itself or by connecting a optical video cable through the aux receiver for home theater.  I've replaced the Apple TV box, swapped out HDMI cables, reset the Apple TV box, all to no avail.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Connected only using HDMI to Onkyo Receiver and HDMI out to Samsung 1080p TV. So far so good.

  • Where do I find USB Audio codec in OSX 10.6.8?

I need this for a Pyle USB tape deck (PT-659DU). Audacity is the only program that can be used with this deck and they show clearly how to use Audacity with     USB PnP devices,as this deck is one. This screenshot shows what I need to do.(find the USB Audio codec, and get it to show in the Audio setup in Sound

My last post to myself is wrong.I received a response from Audacity with USB audio Codecs support for Mac OSX on intel Macs.

    From Audacity:

It must be PPC only to work with Audacity.Ask any user with problems finding this codec to install and you will find they have an intel based Mac.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Add to your list of unsupported Cassette players. Pyle PT-659DU. There will be other models similar to this one with the same issue.I had to go analog RCA to work properly with Audacity.
    See:  http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/User:BillWharrie/OSX_and_USB_input_devices
Pyle devices most likely just use the Mac's USB audio class driver as above.
However if your device's manual says you need to install a special driver for
    Mac, you should do that.
In many cases, it's as simple as replacing the USB cable.

  • Unable to combine two distinct USB Audio devices into one Aggregate Device

I'm trying to use Audio MIDI Setup to combing two separate USB audio speaker systems into "one" so that iTunes will play through both simultaneously.
I can create the "Aggregate Device" and add the two USB devices but I can't get the two checkboxes to remain selected after I "Apply" changes when setting them up in "stereo". If I set them to Multichannel quadraphonic then I can select both devices but only one of them will play sound...I assume because iTunes doesn't output in Quadraphonic.
I've searched these forums and the Interwebs and hear of people having success (and difficulties). Difficulties mostly because of the misunderstanding of what a "device" is. These are both EXTERNAL USB devices. One is SoundSticks and the other is a USB audio converter that passes analog into an amp.
Why is this so difficult? Oh, I know...because  wants to sell you $80 Airport Express to stream music wirelessly to devices that are literally ON THE SAME DESK!
Anyone have success (or confirm more failures) with what should be a trivial exercise...

The idea with the Aggregate Device is to allow several audio devices to behave as though they are one multi-port device with discrete one to one I/O mapping. It is not intended for one stereo source to feed more than 2 channels of output.
    However...
Set up your aggregate devices as 4 audio outputs, install Jack (http://jackaudio.org/) and use that as a virtual router with qjackctl.

  • Kanex MIni DisplayPort+USB Audio to HDMI Adapter --NO SOUND

    Hi,
I just purchased a Kanex Mini DisplayPort+USB Audio to HDMI Adapter for my new Samsung flat screen so I could watch netflix movies. The guy at Tekserve (NYC based authorized dealer) said it's really cool b/c it's audio and video all in one. Two cables are attached to a small box on one side and on the other side of the box is for the HDMI cable which goes to the TV (most of you prpbably already know this) .
The two attached cables fit into the the USB (audio) + mini display port. The video works great, but no sound. I called Apple for tech support and we tried a few things like changing the sound output to USB, but no luck.
I can call Tekserve on Monday, but would love to figure this out before then for the week-end.
    Thanks everyone for your help.
    Mary

There are actually 2 different Mini Display port to HDMI adapters from Kanex. One supports 2 channel audio through the USB audio out cable, which is the one you have Mary. The other one with the extra audio plug cable supports 5.1 digital audio.
    http://kanexlive.com/products/item.aspx?id=3323
    http://kanexlive.com/products/item.aspx?id=3495
I don't have either of these adapters but I would think that you "should" be able to go into your System Preferences under Sound. If the USB plug from the adapter is plugged into your MacBook, then it should show up in the output window in the Sound preferences which you would then choose instead of outputting the sound to the built-in MacBook speakers.
At the bottom of the product description page of the adapter that you have (the USB 2.0 version), it says this:
+Sound Output setting on Macs must be changed to "USB Sound Device/USB Type" to have the adapter operating correctly.+*
Let us know if you get it working properly. I'm considering getting one also.
Sorry.... I just re-read your initial post and it sounds like you already DID try switching the sound output to USB with no luck. The only other thing I can think of is the adapter might be bad and maybe exchange it for another one from where you purchased it. Or you could maybe exchange it for the 5.1 digital audio out version. Although it sounds like your sound is going directly into the tv via HDMI and not a surround sound receiver.
Kanex does have tech support and contact links on their web page. Maybe you should email them directly about your problem. Unfortunately I'm sure you'll have to wait til sometime during the work week to get a reply back.

  • Dose the HDMI Cable have Audio Support or do I need to use the Optical Audio Port on the ATV?

I recently noticed that the Apple TV has an "Optical Audio" port on the back, next to the HDMI port. Before I buy one, will I need to buy a Optical Audio cable, or will the HDMI cable suply sound to the TV?

HDMI carries both audio and video. The optical port is for connecting to a receiver/external speakers.

I am using iMac OS 10.7.2 with Garageband'11 6.0.4. I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and Preferences but I can't get no sound from mixer to iMac only sound from iMac to mixer. I only can record sound using microphone line in. Please help.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • Z87-G45 - my USB audio device doesn't up after booting. Need to USB cable unplug

I have new Z87-G45 with clear Windows 7, newest drivers and last bios but still have the same problem. I have Roland Quad-Capture USB audio interface but it doesn't up with Windows. USB LED on the device is not lit anytime from when I push power button till the system is up. The only way is to unplug the USB cable and plug it again. It is very irritable. Please help me to resolve this problem.

Below is the quote from Amazon website hope that it somehow helps, you could find it in the amazon feedback from other user:
I called Roland tech support who were very friendly and concerned. But what it boiled down to was that the Roland drivers do not interact very well with certain computers. Tech support did not know why. They just kept telling me to update my usb drivers, even though when I ran updates my drivers came up as the most current available. Now, I have an eMachines, Windows 7, 64 bit PC with 8 meg ram, and I know eMachines are not high end. But the computer is less than 2 years old, and seems to run fast and I have liked it. When I told tech support that my drivers came up current, he recommended that I contact the manufacturer. I don't know if you have ever tried to get tech support on a computer that is more than a year old. It's a joke, no one will help you unless you pay them almost enough to buy a new computer.
After more research, I found that many people had the same problem that I had. If they booted up their computer with the interface plugged in, they would run into all kinds of issues. The workaround is to always make sure your unit is unplugged before you boot up.

  • Micro usb audio out feature addition request

so i had a pair on micro usb headphones out and i thought it would work on my stream 7, because of the buzzing problem. However it doesnt work and windows dosnt seem to read it either. Any way for a bios update for the stream 7 so micro usb audio out will work, and any hp prgram for them to make, so i can use headphones.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I know of no device that has OTG "Built in".. so with that said...Micro USB headphones are in more of a testing phase, and only supported by a select few phones/tablets. The device itself has to be "usb headphone aware" because normaly none of these devices default to host mode (ie none of them react to usb connections in the same way a PC/laptop does).
USB phones have been around for a while, and if MicroUSB headphones have a fall back that allows it to be detected as a sound device by any usb host port then using an OTG cable (You will probably need an adapter to convert the Type A connection back to Micro B) it should work fine on the Stream 7. However my understanding is microusb headphones are being designed around a more direct support from mobile devices, much like MHL offered HDMI over usb.

  • No Digital Output available in Playback devices (USB audio device)

If one has USB audio device with coax/toslink out, with proper drivers (like ie TurtleBeach Micro Advantage) available & installed then Digital Output is available to select in Playback devices. (and one can play AC3/DTS to external amplifier with ie
VLC or MPC-HT with AC3Filter DS filter)
But some USB devices (ie Phonic Digitrack -
http://www.phonic.com/en/digitrack.html ) do NOT come with drivers (as Windows has default build in). Digitrack uses TI
    Burr-Brown USB Audio Codec 2906 -
    http://www.ti.com/product/pcm2906
Sadly these Windows drivers do NOT have a clue about what the device actually has as inputs/outputs
So even it had coax digital out & the sound IS send via it, the actual data send is in right way, not recognized/played correctly by Digital Amplifier (AC3/DTS)
Does anybody know of a hack to make Digital Out available?

    Hi,
Generally speaking, An Audio Device do need more driver besides USB driver to make itself work properly. In terms of your situation, USB driver is not enough to make your Audio Device works properly.  I think S.Sengupta
is right. Actually it would be better to contact Digitrack support to confirm its product compatibility with Windows 7.

  • USB audio hardware: what works with iBook 366 clam and OSX 2.8?

I just bought a Behringer UAC202 USB audio interface. My iBook will recognize that it is attached and will give me audio 'out' settings, but it will not configure any audio 'in' settings. It works fine on my iBook G4 with OSX 4.11 however.
Is this a Behringer problem? Do I need to use OSX Panther on the old iBook? Is there a problem with the old clamshell's as far as USB audio in?
Anyone know a cheap USB audio hardware that works in this case? I want to dedicate this great old machine to some easy audio useage.... using the Polar RAM looper instrument in Digital Performer..... and nothing else..... I'm not recording audio to my hard drive..... just want to get audio in and out of the iBook to and from Digital Performer.
    Thanks!

Driver support in Panther is pretty limited with regards to newer hardware as far as i've experienced. If there isn't any drivers offered, either by the company or via third party, then you may be stuck.
The only way that i get audio in on my Blueberry iBook is with the Apple iMic that i picked up at an Apple Store a few years ago. It works fine under panther, tiger and leopard.
    Good Luck

  • Multiple USB Audio Outputs?

Is it possible to set up the mac mini to have multiple USB audio out puts? I'm wanting to use a mini displayport + usb audio > hdmi cable to a plasma for computer use. But is I want to listen to just plain music use USB audio to a DAC into a 2 channel system. So for this system I would need to use 2 USB outputs for music.
    Thanks

    Sure,
You can output sound through more than one little external USB sound card, but probably not to more than one at a time. You'll have to select the Output in the Sound Preferences each time to switch them, too.
But don't overlook the Mini's internal sound output as one of your 2-channel or 5.1 audio outputs. The 2009 Mini has better audio output than the PPC Mini, that I also had and used an external USB sound card with (M-Audio Transit). Of course, now there are cheap little external USB sound cards that look like a little thumb drive for an added 2-channel audio output. So, I'd use the Mini's internal output and an Optical cable for 5.1 sound out, if I were going to use one of those cheap little sound cards. But you can go the other way, too, if you want, with a better USB dongle (like the M-Audio Transit) for your 5.1 sound.
Please let us all hear how it goes and what path works for your application.
    Peace to you,
    C. Livingstone

  • USB Audio CODEC not being recognised.

    Hello,
I have my my Wharfedale 802 mixer plugged into my MAC Mini (late 2012),  Processor - 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory - 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, via USB however it is not being recognised as USB audio CODEC what so ever. I have also tried searching for this to set the outputs in Logic and it is not recognised there either.
I have just updated my iOS to Yosemite 10.10.2 and also my Logic X does anybody know why my mac is not recognising my USB audio CODEC for an input or output?
    Please help.
    Thanks

I just posted this problem I had also. The USB audio Codec is for PPC macs only. I couldnt get a PYLE USB cassette deck to work in AUDACITY because it needed that codec.Windows users use this codec for many devices including the one you are trying to connect.
My post in Snow leopard forum:
I have come to the conclusion that this codec only worked on Macs that used PPC chips, not Intel Macs.Apple must have dropped it when switching to Intel. No where on the net can I find anything about this codec on newer mac OS's and newer Macs.
Judging from this user's comment and others, they are working with OSX10.4 or newer OS that has PPC support like the first Mac Pro and other PPC's.I think the comments below answer my own original question.Hope this helps anyone with the same kind of problem with USB devices that need USB audio CODEC.
    In Audacity prefs, I selected:
"USB Audio CODEC" for both Input and playback.
I even tried lower sample rates and such. Record button stays grey and readouts don't show any input whatsoever even though I am sending a signal.
    Mac is a 533Ghz g4 (Digitial audio) running 10.4.11
It is plug into a USB port on back of machine.
