Need updated AMD Radeon HD 6630M driver for Windows7
Hi,
I am trying to update my new Macmini running Windows 7 64bit, with updated AMD Radeon HD 6630M drivers and Catalyst.
Everything is working well, but I can't install AMD Catalyst Mobility, as the version from AMD says that my computer doesn't contain the proper graphics.
Note: the reason I need the Catalyst is to adjust the image on my 55" LCD screen, as it is not streched to cover the entire screen.
Any help??
I used this driver package too, but I had after the installation of the AMD Drivers a Black Screen, and I could'nt read anything.
Then I solve this problem!
And here are my steps:
1. Download the driver package http://leshcatlabs.net/index.php/2012/11/catalyst-12-10-whql-unifl-for-amdintel-graphics/
2. I have installed it and I made a desktop-icon for the amd Installer.
3. Then I go to the Device Manager and then I clicked with the right-click on the ATi Radeon HD5650 and then I choose
"Update Driver Software...". After this then comes a windows with two messages. I have chosen the Second One "Browse my computer for driver software". Then put in the location of the driver from the installed downloaded package. The Standard location is: C:\Drivers\Catalyst_12.10_WHQL_UnifL\Packages\Drivers\Display\W86A_INF
4. Then click on "Next" and then comes a message that a driver wants to get installed, install it.
5. After this then comes the "Black Screen". Now take your finger and press the Display Change Button: |O|
Press the button 3 times and press Enter after this if you don't see your desktop do this step again.
6. Then If you have a picture do step 5 again and now you must look very well because now the desktop is very dark and you can't make the brightness better.
7. After this close all windows but before you could maybe see that the driver for the ATi Graphic Card is successfully installed.
8. Now click on the desktop-icon which called "Run Catalyst 12.10 WHQL UnifL Installer"
9. Run this Installer and then install it and don't make an update. Now choose a "user defined" installation and check if
all important things are would be installed (so far if you can read it).
10. Click on Next and Installation begins. While or after the installation you get now your desktop with a correct
brightness.

This seems to be a Toshiba European notebook series and therefore you should search on the Toshiba European driver page.
The newest ATI driver on the European driver page is a version 8.31.100.3.2 fro Vista and v 8.292-038742C for Win XP
Unfortunately newer driver is not available

AMD Radeon HD 6630M vs Intel HD 3000 for driving a Thunderbolt Display

I've searched the net and cant find the specific answers I'm looking for regarding this issue.
Which graphics option is better for the Mac mini when connected to an Apple Thunderbolt display running at 2560 x 1440 resolution:
1) AMD Radeon HD 6630M with its 256mb GDDR5 memory
or
2) Intel HD 3000 with 512mb of memory ( i.e. I will upgrade the Mac mini to 8gb or RAM to get 512mb of video memory).
Now will the HD 3000 with its 512mb of system memory be better simply because it has more, or will the AMD 6630M be better because even though it has less memory it has faster GDDR5 memory as opposed to the DDR3 memory the Intel GPU will use?
I tested out the AMD 6630M in an Apple store and when I had multiple Safari windows open it struggled a bit when I used expose. It stuttered and lagged and the animation was not smooth. Would the Intel 3000 with 512mb ease this problem?
ThanksDear KYL, thanks for you fast and honest response. I have to say I am really disappointed. Apple sell so few machines/hrdware choice, you would have thought that the ones they do sell could run the core function of the OS smoothly!
I am really surprised that the Intel chip outperforms the 6630 for 2D? So the 6630 must only be better for 3D?
Is there anywhere that list 2D and 3D performance of different graphics cards to get some idea?
I may try adding the 8 RAM this week and see if it helpls at all. If it does, I wonder if there is a way to force the HD3000 to use even more RAM? i.e my modifying some of the preference or extension files somewhere.
If it doesn't I'm not sure what I will do. all this is logged with Applecare, but the machine was bought by my University, so returning it will be terribly inconvenient - if it is at all possible.
Buying a 15" MBPro is a very expensive way to achieve smooth Expose! I also will have unnecessarily ordered a superdrive external, and would then need to spec the MBPro with a SSD. And get an external HD too.
I love the mini, and the speed of the i7 + SSD is incredible, but jerky OS on something one uses 8 hours a day is just not acceptable.
The purchase is already inconvenient as I have to virtualise SL server to run some old academic software that needs Rosetta (but at leat that works).
Ho hum...
Expose has been around for 8 years or so. I'm amazed modern hardware can't work it smoothly (even on a big display) -

CPUI finally found a fix that worked for the above Mac Mini 5,2 running Windows 7 64bit bootcamp. You need to uninstall all the boot camp AMD drivers and software first then install the :"AMD Catalyist 12.1 Preview Driver 32/64 bit". You will need to find "AMD Catalyist 12.1 Preview Driver 32/64 bit" somewhere other than AMD since they are no help at all and will just blame the other guy or redirect you to another dead end. Below is a link to the actual software I used that worked. Good Luck. You could always try to just install and update the currently installed software and drivers with the one below and that might also work.

Simply put, I may occasionally use a handful of high-demand video games on this device. An AMD Radeon HD 6630M w/256MB dedicated is a decent card, but may fall behind on the more demanding games, especially if I keep this system for an extended period of time. And if, sometime in the future, this device still stands but I find I require a more potent graphical source, is it physically possible to upgrade this piece of hardware without irreparably damaging the machine, regardless the methods needed?
I would be more than willing, at that time, to void the warranty if it still stands and perform extensive deconstruction of the device, or have qualified computer repair workers do so for me. I just want to know if it can be done reasonably. I am aware that if this were the Integrated Intel HD graphics 3000 ONLY version, this would be impossible since that system is connected to the motherboard itself. I am hoping this is not a similiar case

my machine S11 is almost 3 years old. In the first year there were a lot of update for drivers, but in the past 1 year there were no update.
At nvidia's official website there is a driver download page, but if I install the latest driver - it doesn't matter which one - I have several video driver related issue. So I have to downgrade to the Toshiba's nvidia driver.

I had about four different notebooks in my life and I have noticed that in different cases the same graphic card would be built in different models and series. This would mean that you could use the graphic card driver which is released for such notebook model for different notebook series which supports the same GPU.
Toshiba releases a lot of different notebook series every month and in most cases they give the main points on the new series. If you want to get newest driver for the GPU I think you will need to check the drivers released for other notebook series with the same GPU or you would look for drivers at some 3rd party pages like www.laptopvideo2go.com/ -

The drivers are native Nvidia/ATI drivers but the *.inf files (the files where the hardware information and the settings for the cards are listed) were fitted for mobile systems. That means you can install them on your machine and by the way you will get the most actual drivers.

I would like to purchase a DELL Vostro laptop with `Core i5` and `AMD Radeon HD 6630M`.
I'm not completely sure, but it will probably have the integrated `Intel Graphics HD 3000` card as well.
From your experience / knowledge, will this video card work with Arch (or Linux in general)? Will it _definitely_ be difficult to get working?I am with the same problem as you are, currently I can turn off the radeon card with vga_switcheroo, but I can't use this card at all, when I switch to the radeon card and I restart Xorg it says client refuses to switch and my computer freezes so I have to hard reset the computer. I am with the open source driver, anyone knows what can be the problem? Thanks

Full HD 3D with Mac mini/AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics?
I am able to output full HD 3D (1080p frame packing) with my 2011 MacAir. I used SwitchResX to define a new resolution of 2205 x 1920 for a 3D beamer that is connected via an HDMI adapter. The beamer recognizes this format as 3D and displayes the 2 packed frames as 3D.
I wonder if the same is possible with the Mac mini with AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics. It SHOULD work the same way, but only if this is ensured, I will buy one.Hi skampi77,
here are the SwitchResX settings that work for an Onkyo AV receiver, and for an JVC 3D beamer (sorry for the German):
I connected the 3D beamer either directly or via the Onkyo AV receiver to the HDMI or (via an adapter) to the DVI output of the Mac mini. And, indeed, the output is in both cases HDMI 1.4a.
I can output full HD 3D images and video. For slide shows, I use a beta version of Graphics Converter v8 ( I asked Torsten Lemke to implement the frame packing format. Please contact him to get access to the beta version, even for testing purposes). This version has in the slide show settings a box "convert output to frame packing" that has to be checked. For video, I use Bino <http://bino3d.org>. In Bino frame packing output is one of the options.
In both cases, one has to switch to the frame packing format before Graphics Converter or Bino is started.
It is helpful to use one of the outputs (DVI or HDMI) for the "control screen", and the other for the 3D output that is switched to full HD frame packing format.

See pondini about mixing data and backups.. but remember this.. the TC has no way to back itself up and TM cannot backup files on the TC. Anything not backed up on the TC will be lost at some future point.

This is a few years old, but it's the best I can do. I stopped using Windows many years ago.
If you have specific questions, maybe I can answer, but remember I don't have access to any Windows newer than XP. I think setup will be similar, but I don't know if the Windows-side software will be compatible with W7 or W8.

You can buy any 3'5" SATA hard drive for the iMac. You can buy a hard drive at OWC.
Note that Late 2009 and newer iMacs have the temperature sensor inside the hard drive, so it's important to get one with that sensor. In this case, I recommend you to take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller and get your hard disk replaced -

I have re-installed windows 7 pro and formatted the drive upon install.
I have installed all of the necessary drivers but the graphics card will not update
whenever i install a driver the install seems to just after extraction and do nothing and i am left with the generic vga adapter in the device manager.
I have tried many things to make it work but I cannot figure it out, here are the solutions i have already tried:-
used the Toshiba detector to find the drivers i need downloaded directly form the site.
used numerous third party sites including AMD and their mobility catalyst ccc.exe, which says its not compatible with their software
I have re-installed windows (formatted main drive) and installed the drivers in a different order, as per some peoples suggestions on other forums.
I have run all of the windows updates and that didn't work
I have manually searched for the driver but windows tells me the current driver is up to date.
my Bios is fully up to date.
Cant think of any more useful pieces of information to fix the problem, can anyone help?

the answer lies within the unknown device on the device manager im sure. as the graphics are intregrated in the system i suspect that it isnt allowing it to update without this driver for (Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System) to be installed 1st.
I have tried downloading a few fixes for this but still no luck does anyone have any information on this, the toshiba driver list doesnt include anything and most other references on the net are for the chipset
