Need upgrade date moved up ( 3 years!!!)

This is a complex issue about my account. I've gone back and forth about this with both Verizon stores and the customer service call center for YEARS with NO resolution. (There are a mere two phone lines and one tablet line.)
In September 2011 I upgraded a Motorola (w755?) flip phone to a Motorola Droid phone. (Logic would've dictated my next upgrade date would be September 2013)
Shortly thereafter my ex-wife experienced a manufacturer defect with her HTC Droid Eris - a widely documented one about the track ball malfunctioning because it was too close to the charge port (resulting in loss of use of the screen). Verizon denied there was a defect and would not offer any assistance in replacing the phone.
As a result, my ex was forced to "commandeer" MY upgrade date for replacement for the failed HTC phone and subsequent phone (by upgrading my line with her new phone and then switching lines on the phone - an allowable maneuver).
Fast forward to June 2014. I'm still stuck with my Motorola Droid from 2011 because Verizon won't allow me to upgrade it. It was still working okay when it dropped from a height of 2' onto vinyl tile and the screen shattered. At that point I was forced to use the $100 replacement independent contractor (forget the name). The replacement was the "next" available model, a refurbished Motorola Droid RAZR from 2012. It has been nothing but trouble since two weeks into ownership. After one month the speaker quit working (can't hear any notifications or incoming calls). It doesnt connect to wifi, apps work when they want, keyboard is miscalibrated, webpages don't load even with clear reception. The shell is also cracking and falling apart randomly and there is a bubble under the screen glass where it has decided to detach from the LCD.
SO... my upgrade date for this worthless Droid RAZR phone is showing 11/26/14. Who, how, and when can I have that moved up to NOW? Hint: I can't use my ex's upgrade date because she already used that for new products via Verizon Edge. SO, I have zero options unless someone from Verizon physically steps in and HELPS me.
Also, what kind of discount price can you get on an iPhone 6/plus when eligible?? I won't accept anything but an Apple product because the quality control on any other brand (except maybe Samsung) is shoddy at best. Atop these facts, if my upgrade date was moved up to NOW, I would technically have the new phone by my upgrade date because of the back-order nature of new products.
So after two years of goofiness and 8 years as a VZW customer, I will not accept answers like "no", or "Verizon Edge" - not in my vocabulary. I deserve better and also a little fairness. I believe after 37 months I'm entitled to a) an upgrade at a discount and b) a NEW product. That is all I'm asking. If this was even worth filing suit I would've easily won. Please and thank you!!

If this was even worth filing suit I would've easily won.
you gave upgrade to ex, you dropped phone, you replaced another phone falling apart after 2 years. In each case you agreed to the terms, I do not see where Verizon went against the terms.   You drink the kook-aid (getting subsidized phones), you pay the price.   In future, get replacements outside of Verizon so there is no impact on contract date.
Good luck, you just missed the 11/15 early upgrade window that was recently offered.

  • Has anyone successfully gotten their upgrade dates moved up ?

I see people saying they did, but I think they may be lying. I figured if I could get some answers, it would be worth a try. If you did, how'd you do it?

How far are you wanting it moved up?  Weeks?  Months?
Well, we accomplished this in several steps.  1st - DH requested a date change from March 30 to February 3.  He was told no, but that they would move it to February 9.  They were worried they would not have enough IPhones for the Verizon customers who were already due for an upgrade.  Dh went around and around with them, spoke to supervisors and could not get the date moved any further.  He waited a few days and called again.  Still no luck.  Well, I decided to take matters into my own hands and sent a very nice email to customer service telling them that I had been a loyal customer for 15 years and had waited 4 years for Verizon to get the IPhone and that I would really love to get one, blah blah blah.  Basicaly, a sob story with a lot of begging.  Low and behold, 12 hours later, I had a very nice response letting me know that my upgrade date was moved up to February 3.  But, I chose to wait until the 10th so I could get it activated in the store and in my hands should there be any issues.
So, if you have been told no, keep trying.  If still told no, try sending a very nice email requesting your date moved up.  You can also ask in the store.  They have the same authority to move dates up.
If you have more than a couple of month tho, I am not sure if you will have any success.

  • My upgrade date was moved back 3 months for no reason?

I checked my upgrade date a few months ago and it was listed as January. Now all of a sudden it has moved to march for no reason. I called customer service and thet put me on hold for 15 minutes before eventually calling me back to tell me I couldn't do anything about it. I have had verizon for years and always thought they were the best company. However I feel cheated that I can no longer upgrade when I was supposed to. The upgrades always ensured that my excitement to get a new phone kept me entering new contracts before the current one ended. However in the last year I have lost my unlimited data, been told by a representative that it would cost me $200 to cancel one of my lines only to find it as $250 on my bill, and now been told I can't upgrade when I was originally told I could. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with Verizon, and since I will not be getting a new phone until my contract ends anyway, there is a good chance this will be the push I need to switch companies the day that contract ends....
Has anyone else encountered a series decline in satisfaction with Verizon recently???

In April of 2013, Verizon announced that the "early upgrade" policy would be discontinued and that the upgrade date would now coincide with the contract date.
    That's the "reason".

  • Why does my upgrade date on my lines keep changing?

I want to know why on earth my upgrade dates keep changing? I have a line enparticular that's had it's upgrade date bumped up at least two times so as a result the phone literally started falling apart. Because customer service said it was too soon to upgrade on that line I had no choice but to buy a used phone off EBay which we've only had 2 months and it's already crumbling as well. I guess the issue is I really don't have the money to keep doing this on my budget and all I need is a basic phone in the free category but I feel like I'll never get it at the rate you guys keep leading me in. I added this line in 2011 and haven't had one upgrade from you guys since on that line. I feel like I'm being thrown around and I desperately need an upgrade on that particular line. I have been a loyal customer and have never once been late on a bill since I signed up for service in November of 2009. I do not feel this is right and I'm very frustrated. One way or another I need the upgrade sooner than this last change in the upgrade date. Pretty sad that I can't even use service on that line due to unreliable phones. I need an earlier upgrade and if it means I have to speak to the head honcho then so be it. Something needs to be done. I'm t-totally fed up

When, exactly, did you purchase the phone in 2011?  The policy that bumped dates up 4 months only affected contracts beginning in January 2012 - those upgrades got moved from September 2013 to January 2014.  I upgraded my phone in March of this year, my upgrade originally said December of 2014, and it now says March 2015.  Three phones on my family plan did NOT have upgrade dates affected, 2 phones did.
If you purchased your phone in 2011, your upgrade should be sometime in 2013, at the 20 month point in your 24 month contract.  Things that would or could affect that date would be a warranty replacement or an insurance replacement, or if someone else in your family plan used the upgrade earlier this year and extended the contract on your line.
How many times did it get "bumped up"?  Again, if the contract on that line was begun in 2011, the recent change to 24 month upgrades would not have affected the original upgrade on that line - something else has caused the upgrade date to change (replacement phone,, buddy upgrade, etc.)

  • When looking at Verizon account, I found the message "your upgrade date is aligned with term of your contact", what does that mean? I want to upgrade from an Iphone 4 to 6

I need help with upgrade questions.

My account use to say the same thing.  VZW used to let us upgrade every 20 months rather than 24.  This ended some time ago...so now instead of being eligible to upgrade in month 20, your upgrade date has been aligned with your 24 month contract end date.  Hope this info help.
I wouldn't have been able to upgrade from my iP5 to the 6+ according to the new upgrade policy until 11/20/14.  But right before iP6+ pre-order date, VZW was allowing certain customers to upgrade earlier than their contract end date as long as they moved to EDGE rather than the 2 year contract.  I was going to utilize EDGE anyway so it was a bonus for me as I was able to pre-order and get my iP6+ a lot sooner than having to wait until 11/20 just to order.

  • Sad smiley after update. Need my data!!!

Now when its turned on its showing a smiley on a blue screen and then it turns off. My understanding from reading online is that the update did not install correctly. I NEED A FIX AND I NEED MY DATA!!!
    Soft reset makes no difference.
    Details:
So, suddenly my phone shows there's an update. I am ecstatic coz I have *always* has issues getting updates and here this time it was showing up on my phone as its supposed to.... I should have known better...
I am beyond sick and tried of windows now. I am 10 year Nokia user and I am pretty sure this is my last Nokia and first and last windows phone. I was one of the earliest Lumia 920 users... And have had a horrible experience. For the first 6 months, it couldn't be unlocked to be used outside the US. And I was moving out.... So I carried a brick with me that whole time. Ever since then one or another thing had not been working... and every time I would look up for a fix, it turned out there was an update but some how my phone not only misses it but couldn't get it no matter what I do. Finally I was able to go to one of the rare Nokia centers in Brazil. The guys were nice enough to get the US version of the much delayed Lumia update for my phone. After that I was sure my problems were over and it worked pretty good.... And now this.... I am sick of not being able to rely on a device that is supposed to work pretty good. I am lost confidence now for good. I would appreciate if some how I can find a way to recover my data so I can leave this **bleep** phone behind. If not... then this is the last time windows phone is hurting me... I am determined not to give it another chance... I have had to wait, loose my data or work with a degraded device for far too long now.

Provided you followed best practice and keep a backup of media files your data is safe on your Microsoft account and will sync back as soon as you set up your phone again using your account login. Contacts are at http://people.live.com and it may also be helpful to know which  phone we're talking about here, it seems from your post it is a US model?
Use the Nokia Software Recovery Tool to recover your phone if you have software or software update problems. If your phone is not responding, it appears to be stuck or is not starting you can try to recover it at home before initiating a repair.

  • Upgrade Eligibility Moved to 24 Months

I'm curious as to how people feel about the upgrade eligibility being moved to 24 months, to coincide with the end of the contracts.  Please share your thoughts but remain respectful of others and their opinions.
The link is below from the statement that VZW issued.  There are also some other points in the announcement, but I think that this is the major one.

Verizon is risking losing customers. Here's why. Most people want to upgrade as soon as they are eligible. Well at 20 months you are still under contract so it's not like you can leave without paying a lot of money anyways. So if you want that new phone you're not going to wait 4 extra months when you can get it now. Nor are you going to pay and ETF because then you might as well be paying full price. So you upgrade and BAM new 2 year contract. Under this new scenario the upgrade and contract have the same end date so one can look at other carriers and leave Verizon without penalty.
Someone made this point in another thread, but I can't remember who it was.  Do you remember Brian?  Maybe this is part of the positive spin that Verizon Wireless put on this announcement.
    Ann154, you're welcome!

  • Multiple lines - different upgrade dates

We have a 4-line family plan. I am the geek who needs/wants a 4G phone NOW but my upgrade date is December 2011. The other lines are not so tech-needy and their upgrade dates are all in the past.
I can transfer the upgrade date from one of those lines to my own - but what would be their new upgrade date? December 2011 or April 2013 (2 years from now)?

Thanks for the great input budone!
In addition, I would like to mention that any line you transfer the upgrade from, will be eligible for upgrade 20 month from activation of your device as our customers are eligible to upgrade 4 months prior to contract expiration date on a 24 month contract.

  • Where do I find my upgrade date and how do I find out when I bought the phone??

I need to know where I can find my upgrade date and is there any way to find out when I started my services with Verizon?someone help plezzzzz! thanx

Log on to your account, and click on the picture of your phone. It will show you when you can upgrade and when your contract ends. You can go back two years (or one year, if you opted for a one year contract) to figure your start date for that contract.
If this was not your first contract, and you've been with Verizon for several years, you may need to call customer service to find out your original start date.

  • Don't WANT/NEED a data plan

I am due for an upgrade to my phone and I'd like something with a bigger screen (51 year old eyes). I like the Droid (my son has one), but I literally have NO need for a data plan. Voice and text serves my needs, I have a computer at home and I just don't NEED a data plan.
We've been with Verizon for about 5 years now and up until this point, have loved the service, quality, etc. We've been quite happy with the customer service, they have worked with us when we needed it and now? I am getting absolutely nothing for being a 'valued' customer. I'm not asking for a free data plan, I just want the choice of whether or not to get one when I get a new phone. I like the size of the phone itself. My current phone is web capable and in 2+ years that I have had it, I have used the web twice...for weather. That's it. I am beginning to resent being told that I have to do something in order to get a phone that fits my needs. It takes forever to find a new phone for my husband as he wants a phone. Camera is fun to have, but he does NOT text (he barely will email).
Is it really too much to as for my wireless company to give me what I want/need and stop demanding that I do what they want? Before I upgrade, I'll be doing research on a new company.
    Unhappy.

so dont blame verizon, blame the users
If that were the case, the data plan would have been required on ANY phone which has the capability of incurring a pay-as-you-go data charge, which, for the record, is any phone in Verizon's line-up for the past couple years as far as I can recall, from the basic Motorola W385 all the way up to today's fanciest feature phone, the Kins.
When Verizon made the decision to pair their most popular feature-type phones (then called 3GMM) with their least popular (but probably most profitable) small data package, they were making a decision designed to provide them with an increased stream of steady revenue for very little effort with no capital investment.
Verizon has (and did have then) the tools to fix the problem of accidental data charges without increasing customer costs.  They could have required customers to "opt-in" to the paygo data plan, or only given refunds for the first complaint IF the customer chose a data package or a full data block.
Instead, they chose the easiest path to the highest revenue.  You shouldn't blame the customers for a company's decision to maximize their profits.

  • Phone Upgrade Date Extended in Mid-Contract

OK, I know I'm searching for an answer I'll never have answered, I get it. Verizon can and will do whatever they want. There is latitude when you're the big dog. Woof on the little guys. Or customers, because there are always more of them.
We're four months away from our contract renewal date. We're smartphone users, and are adding our two kids to the account in the coming months. Once we add the kids, we're probably worth a total of $220 - $230 per month to Verizon, so we're not important at all. Again, I get it.
For the first 16 months of our current contract, like those of you who renewed at about the same time, we're were dangled a November 2013 phone upgrade date. 20 months, as has always been the Verizon customer retention strategy. As you all know, that got changed. In mid contract period.
Again, I get it. You changed it because legally you could. But, why? Don't give me the standard line I've heard a thousand times, that to bring the phone upgrade date in line with the contract renewal date makes sense. I don't care if it makes sense. It's wrong to change what you've been offering contracted long-term clients for over a year simply because you can. Go ahead and change it if/when we renew again, of make it clear to new clients as they sign up for another two years. But to change it mid-contract on customers you've had for more than 10 years, like us, is slapping us in the face. Ha ha, we did this because we could, we made a little extra money off of you, and you can't do anything about it.
Marketing retention strategy discussions, like the one that had to be held before Verizon made this call, are fascinating events. You know someone in that room was saying, "uh, guys, this may not be a wise idea"... but then again, maybe not.
I guess time will tell. In our geographic region, ATT and T-Mobile have just expanded their 4G coverage to cover what Verizon used to have all by themselves. In March we'll decide who to go with.
But then again, we're just little guys. Who up until now have been at the mercy of the big dog. Woof.
    There. I feel better now.

Nice responses, all, and thank you. I guess it's good to know you're not entirely alone, even if for something as hopefully-far-down-the-list-of-important-stuff as a cell phone contract.
OK, I work in marketing. Which is why this whole scenario is so interesting to me. I have an attorney next to me who was laughing at me for taking time to vent, even though he admits - and this is for you, Ann154 - companies do get successfully sued all the time for extending offers in writing (on the web, or in print, as does apply in this case) that go beyond the scope of the original written contract. Verizon is simply betting that no one will care enough to do so. And I guess they've been right, and soon, it will all be irrelevant. Again, the big dog woofs.
And to Jonathan at Verizon - thanks for reaffirming the most fundamental and age-old marketing rule - when you know you can't really respond, always fall back to the company boilerplate statement. It will work more times than not for most. I tell my clients the same thing all the time.
But all of this is still bugging me. Which means as a marketer I'm probably developing a conscious. Which means I better find a new career soon.

  • Why is my upgrade date showing as 6mths PAST the time that I started my account, and the date I purchased my last upgrade??

I opened my account in November of 2011, and then purchased a new phone via upgrade in November of 2012 with my upgrade. I have not purchased a new phone since, but my upgrade date is showing as April of 2014! I am not happy about this AT ALL!!!

Actually, I'm surprised it's showing your upgrade date is as early as April 2014.  If you upgraded in November 2012 by signing a new two-year contract (i.e., you received a subsidized phone), your upgrade date would be 20 months later, or July 2014.  Verizon no longer offers annual upgrades.
