Need Windows Media Player 9 Help!

Hi, all!
I've been trying to install Windows Media Player 9 on my G5 ALS iMac, with no success. I've downloaded both the .bin and .hqx versions, but one comes out as an Excel document for some reason, and the other can't be read because my computer can't find the file that created it or an application to open it with. They're coming out as documents, not zip files.
I've tried to download Flip4Mac, but on every page I've visited, after I click 'download' I get a 'Page Not Found' notice. I also tried to get VLC, but that just downloaded as a bunch of gibberish, not a file.
So, any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
Sue

Hi Sue,
You need the utility Stuffit to uncompress some files. Here's a reliable download site. Hope this helps.

    Every time Firefox opened

    Hi Lindsay.
The [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player MozillaZine "Windows Media Player" KB doc] explains installation and troubleshooting in-depth including a link to test the plugin, which should help you solve this problem.
Do note - if your Windows 7 OS is a 64-bit version, make sure that the plugin actually ends up in the Mozilla Firefox plugin folder (default '''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\'''). There are reports of the plugin (or actually Firefox) ending up in the wrong folder. 64-bit Windows systems has 2 Program Folder locations - "Program Files" for 64-bit applications, and "Program Files (x86)" for 32-bit applications.
Also note that the Windows Media Player is required to use the plugin - if WMP has been uninstalled from the Windows Control Panel, the plugin will not work.
Please let us know how above works out, and if we can be of further assistance. Detailed feedback is appreciated and helps us to help you better, plus enables us to better help more users with similar problems.

  • WEB PAGE says I need Windows media player 11 plugin. Have ver. 12 on computer. Is this not a backward step?

In order to see media on several web pages, it says I need to download plugin Windows media player v. 11. Windows 7 on computer has Windows media player 12. Is this going backwards or or these 2 separate things, i.e. program vs plugin?
    Thanks, Sara

The plugin should work with WMP 12 as well.

  • Exporting for Windows Media Player/MPEG (help in translating mixed message)

So a client of mine had an unusual request today. He's been asked by some tech folk who are doing 'commercials' in the theater lobby to provide them with clips with these specifications (and I use that term loosely):
MPEG files that are non-compressed and play in Windows Media Player (no Quicktime allowed) and are Audio Enhanced. Needs to be burned on a CD not a DVD.
Yeah, sounds like folk who have no clue as to what they want and are trying to pretend they do to me too
So...any ideas on what they really want? And is it best to export via Compressor or invest in that Flip4Mac?
I'm probably going to get a phone call from the tech folk on Monday and want to be a bit forearmed w/some idea of what the heck they REALLY mean!

Yup, that's why I'm so perplexed by their specs. Kinda like asking me to make a Photoshop picture that's bright and and can be printed big
Since I don't ever deal w/WMP (shudder) was wondering if their gobbledeegook actually made sense in another realm (glad to hear it doesn't seem to).

  • Problems with Ipod and Windows Media Player PLEASE HELP

Ok i am not sure if this is the correct forum or not but i am having a problem. I have a Windows computer (Yes a windows computer please dont everyone yell at me) and i have a new ipod 30 gig video. Ok well when i put itunes on it changes all my music on my computer gets changed to AAC format and i cannot play music in windows media player. Ok well that is not my big issue. I make videos for church using windows movie maker and i cannot import music because nothing windows can recognize Itunes format which is AAC. well is there anyway so i can use itunes and still use WIndows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker... Any info will be greatly appreciated. THANKS ALL

I believe Quicktime Pro (which is available for Windoze) is capable of opening any WMP files and then you just export it as iPod format. That is how I get video onto the iPod. The Music and Videos all can be placed onto your iPod through iTunes.
So, if you are creating videos in your program, and want them on your iPod, then that is how you can do it.
Videos on your iPod have nothing to do with the formatting of your music. But, as the earlier post stated, change your prefs in iTunes to import as MP3. But, your videos HAVE to be in MP4 or M4V format to work on the iPod.
    Good luck... and I'm a j3susfreak too

  • Need Windows Media Player Plugin for Windows 8

When I go thru the directions to install the plugin it only shows up to Windows 7. I have Windows 8. The media player works fine thru Internet Explorer, but I'd rather use Firefox.
Problem - I have an important viewing of my daughter's 3d/4d ultrasound this Saturday and I don't want to mess up my laptop by installing the wrong version and not being able to view it at all.
    Thanks.

Those instructions should work for Windows 8 as well.
Did you try to install the plugin, assuming that you've already installed the WMP?

  • Windows media player 9 help!!

I have been trying to install windows media player 9 for my imac and I just cant get it to download. I get it on my desktop and then I downloaded stuffit expander and all it is doing is saying "preparing" on the expander. I have no clue what is going on. I just got my imac 4 days ago. Can someone give me a clue? Thanks Kyle

    Welcome to the discussions!
Skip Windows Media Player and use the Flip4Mac plugin for QuickTime found HERE.
Microsoft is no longer developing WMP for Mac and has turned that over to F4M.

  • Uploading a video in Windows Media Player format HELP

I just used the Insert:Media:Plugin to upload a video in .wav format and when I look at it on the web, it just says "ng PL" and nowhere does it play.  What am I doing wrong?  I did 'put' it onto the server.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks,

First, the wav format is an audio format not a Windows media format.  Thus the computer can decide what to do with it.  Either iTunes or WMP or any other media player could pick up the file.
Second, wav files are typically uncompressed.  Thus you are making your users download a file that is larger than they need to be download if it were to be encoded as MP3 or AAC, both of which are more optimized for web streaming and/or distribution.
Then what you need to look at is a Flash player or if HTML5 is an option, the audio tag, to embed the audio file onto your website.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi skips a beat in windows media player! Help

I'm going crazy... My media player occasionally skips a beat when I listen to music, or even when I watch movies... though it's rarely a beat in a movie.
I don't know what to do, no one I've asked have any idea why this happens. I've formatted my computer since I got the card, so it's not a virus, not spyware etc. I've also had problems with missing sound in F.E.A.R when playing with EAX effects etc.
I'm sorry, but I really don't have time to run every possible cause in the FAQ, since it's pretty rare that it skips a beat, and it would simply take ages.
I have tried with reduced or removed hardware acceleration, changed all possible settings in media player etc, no ideas left.
So I hope someone has experienced the same, and has some kind of solution.
    Computer:
    Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz/800FSB
    ASUS P4P800 (Socket 478)
    GeForce 7600 GS
    Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum (The sinner)
    80GB Maxtor Harddisk (S-ATA 50)
    Running at stock speed.

I have the exact same problem, I think, though I notice it most with videos. I also have a Sound Blaster X-Fi (XtremeGamer) but the same issue happens with my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.
By "skip a beat", you mean that the playback skips forward, right? By maybe half a second or so, or a whole second? If so, then yes, I have this problem.
I have an idea for you. You have an Intel Pentium 4. I've isolated this problem with my dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 to be related to the dynamic switching of threads over to CPU, or the second core. Whenever a video or music is playing on this core, the problem may happen. But if I limit it to CPU0, the problem goes away.
It should be much easier to solve this problem for you. You don't have a true dual-core or dual-CPU system, but it should be recognized as one as a result of the Intel Pentium 4's HyperThreading. So what I suggest to you is to disable hyperthreading. You can do this in the BIOS, and can find more information about how to do it on Google probably. Please try this - I'm VERY interested in knowing if it works for you. Let me know if it does or doesn't or if you need any additional help.

  • I am not able to download a video in mac. When I click on it it opens in a new window and plays online but doesn't get downloaded. When I open the link in windows it gets downloaded in .mov format and play in windows media player!Help

Can you tell me how to download it in MAC OS

This is a user-to-user forum, and although Adobe staff make occasional appearances here, there is no guarantee that you will get any "officila" Adobe feedback.
If you have difficulties to install the online installer from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/, then download the offline installer http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe; save it to disk, then run it after closing all browser windows.

  • MDT - Need Help Adding Windows Media Player to Specific Deployments

I'm using MDT in conjunction with WDS to deploy Windows 7 in my organization. I use the MDT Computers database to profile machines. (i.e. select certain applications to be installed to specific machines based on MAC address.) In my reference images I have
removed all the components under Media Features, as most users do not need them. However, some users need Windows Media Player.
In the Computers Database properties, under the Details section, I noticed a property called OSFeatures. I tried setting the value to MediaPlayback,WindowsMediaPlayer and just WindowsMediaPlayer, but Windows Media Player does not get installed. Am I not
    entering the value correctly?
My goal is to be able to add Windows Media Player to specific machines.
    Thanks in advance

Is the OSFeatures property not able to add WMP? The reason why I want to use it is because when I profile machines that need WMP, I can add the option to have WMP added just for that machine.
If I can't use OSFeatures to install WMP, how can I add it back on a per-machine basis?

  • Windows Media Player error message

On Saturday mornings for the last couple of years, I have tuned in via the internet to a radio station and particular program using the radio station's website and clicking on their link for my connection speed (cable). The Windows Media Player opens up and the broadcast begins. The past two weeks, when the Player window opens, I now get a message that says "The host is unreachable." I restarted my computer; same message. I've seen reference on some websites that it is a router problem. So I reset the router; still doesn't work. I reinstalled Media Player 9; same message. I'm baffled as to why this is happening all of a sudden. Can anyone help direct me? The router is Netgear and is about three years old. Thanks.

I have no problem doing so. You don't need Windows Media Player. Make sure you have Flip4Mac WMV installed:

  • Any problems with Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X?

I want to be able to play video from CNN.com, but it says I need Windows Media Player 9. Before I download it, I want to know if it is reliable.
    I've already got Flip4Mac, and that doesn't help. (I get a -2048 error.)
Please share experiences with Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X so I can decide whether or not to download it.
    Thanks,
    Matt

The default application you're looking for is "Stuffit Expander".
http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/ is the page you'll be looking for...think Winzip for Mac. Once stuffit is installed you should be able to open the .sitx or .hqx file you may have downloaded...essentially a package that stuffit can open for you so you can install media player.

    a dah..lol..yes...
That being the case if it won't run I'd do the "regular drill": Repair Permissions, download & run Onyx or Cocktail, consider booting from your install DVD and running Disk Repair. If still no joy post back.
