Need work-around for 'amplitude statistics' bug

Does anyone know how to get adobe audition 3 to report the correct "amplitude statistics" for a selected audio clip?
It is obviously broken now (it worked fine in Cool edit Pro days), to show this simply do this:
create a new file
generate a one second sine wave at 1004 Hz,-6 dB amplitude, no modulation
check the "amplitude statistics" window
The results (for all or any part of the constant sine wave) should read -6 dB for all the catagories (Max, Min, Average, Total). In Audition 3 they typically read other (random?) numbers, however if you select a section of the sine wave near the middle with the selection length the same size as the amplitude statistics window it is sometimes possible to get the correct readings. Just the fact the reading change for various selections in a constant level sine wave shows there is a bug.
Fine.... but does anyone know if there is some way to get a correct reading out of Audition 3 ? Could I turn off some other features, or select the audio section to report the RMS level for in a very particular way?
Thank You.

Here is a really simple example of how adobe Audition 3 is reporting
incorrect values for the amplitude statistics of a selection that
only includes a CONSTANT AMPLITUDE SINE WAVE. Note that for a selection that has only includes a single constant RMS level signal, the reported RMS levels for:
MINIMUM RMS LEVEL
MAXIMUM RMS LEVEL
AVERAGE RMS LEVEL
TOTAL RMS LEVEL
should all be exactly the same (by defination ! ! !)
How to create an example of the incorrect reporting:
1) open Audition 3.0
2) create a new file (for example use mono 16 kHz, 16 bit depth)
3) generate 10 seconds of silence
4) make sure "Preferences-Data-smoothing" are both not checked
5) position cursor at 5 seconds (in middle of silence)
6) generate a sine wave at -6 dB amplitude, 1 second long
7) leave freshly generated sine wave selected
8) open amplitude statistics window
9) select "0 dB = FS sine wave" and default 50ms window width
10)note incorrect statistics reported:
Minimum RMS power -inf dB
Maximum RMS power -6 dB
Average RMS power -8.33 dB
Total RMS power -7.28 dB
At no point in the selection does a window have 50ms of -inf samples
The maximum power is correct
The average power is incorrect, it should also be -6 dB (constant sine wave!)
The total power should also read -6 dB, for a constant -6 dB sine wave
11) now close the amplitude statistics window and select the last 200ms of the
sine wave (from second 5.8 to 6.0)
12) open amplitude statistics windows again (still using 50 ms windows)
13) note the (really) incorrect statistics displayed:
Minimum RMS power -inf dB
Maximum RMS power -inf dB
Average RMS power -inf dB
Total RMS power -inf dB
I assert the Adobe Audition 3 amplitude statistics numbers are obviously wrong. It looks like the calculation is being done over
an incorrect section of some data buffer.

  • Need work around for image gallery with password protected URLs

Is there a way to display an image gallery that has password protected URLs?
I can build the image gallery in Siena using an excel table with a list of the images and when I preview the app inside Siena I get the expected credentials prompt from IE, and I enter the credentials and the images load and display with their captions perfectly.
There are 4-6 images in the gallery.
When I publish and produce a store app, the app errors out with can’t connect and obviously fails on
var GenericInitError = "The app could not connect to the server. Please try again later.",
            GenericInitTitle = "Network error";
Most likely because Siena wants to preload everything and there is no way with preload to enter credentials.
I am looking for any alternatives that would let me get around this.
    TIA

Nope. The app accesses a group of IP Security cameras. Static images would not
make any sense. And authentication is required. Not negotiable.

  • Need work around for "install_flash_player_10_active_x.msi failure.

The Quickbooks Premier 2011 install package fails on a Windows 7 64-bit computer.
When QB stopped supporting this package last May, my QB suddenly failed and I was unable to reinstall it. The QB Tech worked several hours without success.
The issue is that in directory C:\Users\...\flash10\install_flash_10_active_x.msi  fails when the installer tries to execute it.
The installation fails because I have (or had) a later version of the flash player installed.
Even when I uninstall the later version flash player, install_flash_10_active_x.msi fails when I double click it.
    I even used regedit.exe to remove the left over registry keys (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15) from
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\SafeVersions
I was using Explorer 11 with FlashPlayer 15.  I need QB to complete my taxes before the IRS gets me.  Please, I am open to suggestions.
What I think might work is getting an ".msi" file that will work with the Explorer 11 that I can rename to trick the QB installer in to getting past this problem.
Any thoughts that might help be get past the point?
    Thanks sincerely,
    Ed Eibling

This problem is now resolved, thanks to the kind assistance of Klaus Hartnegg [mailto:[email protected]]
searched my computer for *.msi and found "install_flash_player_15_active_x.msi",
Moved it to the directory with "install_flash_player_10_active_x.msi".  deleted the 10, renamed 15 to 10 (to fool the QB installer),
    deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\SafeVersions from the registry.
The Quick Books Premier 2011 installed normally.

  • Work around for iTunes not working with shuttle

Well, I have found a work around for the iTunes not working the the Shuttle. It is not pretty, and many of you may not choose to follow my lead. This procedure has a lot of dumb steps in it, but in the end, one can copy data/songs to a Shuttle.
It involves removing the current iTunes and replacing it with a version that also had a bug in it.( I told you it ain't pretty).
    Procedure:
    1. Go to this url: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
    2. Download the old 8.0 version of iTunes for Windows.
    3. Remove the current iTunes from your computer. Note after you run the remove utility in Windows, you need to delete the iTune library that isn't removed.
    4. Install iTunes 8.0
Here is where it gets dumb.
This version of iTunes has a bug with the USB interface, but there is an easy work around.
    5. Make sure the Shuttle is not connected when you launch iTunes.
    6. After iTunes comeup, attach the Shuttle.
    7. iTunes should see your Shuttle.
    8. Select the music you want to upload, and drag it to the Shuttle.
    9. iTunes will just sit there, so you need to get its attention. To get its attention you must disconnect and reconnect one of your USB devices, just not the Shuttle. Some folks do their mouse, one used a USB drive, and another on used is GPS because he was working from a laptop and did not have a mouse.
    10. In a few moments, iTunes will do its thing and copy your data to the Shuttle. You must do this routine for each copy, so if you develop a Play List, you only have to do step 9 once.
The getting the old copy of iTunes was my idea, but a gentleman from a year ago figured out the mouse step.
I am now a happy camper, my Shuttle is full of music again.
However, I hope Apple finds a fix for the 8.2 problem soon.
    Take care all.

I stand corrected on the name. By the time I figured out how to copy the songs I had a few other names in mind.
One of the first things I tried was the Reset utility. After the iTunes restore did not work, I went looking for something else. After using the utility, I connected the iPod and resynced. I had left the Autofill box checked. iTunes autofilled the iPod. I deleted those songs and tried to put a different play list in. It would not copy the songs, iTunes said there was no room even though the play list for the shuffle was empty. I looked at the settings screen and it said the iPod was full. I synced the iPod to my Mac, and that got rid of the "full" indication. That is when I started looking for an older version of iTunes, unfortunately all I could find is a version with the USB bug.

  • Work around for 60 column limitation

    All,
Does anyone know of a work around for the 60 column table limitation?
Will this be changed in a future release?
    Thank you.

I also need a workaround for this. I have users that want to download data as excel files, and the built in export to csv was working great until the dynamic sql statement pushed itself to more then 60 columns. Is there some other way to provide a link to the data as csv? Can I hook into the csv functionality of HTML DB? Can I create a page template that modifies the Content-Disposition and/or Content-Type so the browser thinks the page is csv/excel so that I could dump out a clob of data I put together? Should I just have a button that provides a link to something outside HTML DB to query and dump data from the database?
As it is, the users really don't need to see the data on the screen. I just need a way to dump 60+ columns of data to the user as csv.

  • Work around for Excel's array formulae?

I have an Excel spreadsheet which I have built over many years to manage maintenance tasks of my boat. I would like to convert this to run on Numbers. Unfortunately I can't find a work-around for Excel's "Array Formulas".
The column headers of my spreadsheet contain maintenance tasks (plus data on how frequently by days or engine hours these jobs need to done). When I complete a maintenance task, I log the date and engine hours in a new row with an "x" to signify that the job is done. Excel then looks up the date/engine hours when each job was last done (ie the lowest "x") and then uses conditional formatting to highlight the column headers of which jobs are overdue. Is there a work around for this in Numbers?
I attach an image shot of my Excel spreadsheet which may help:

    Hi Rich,
    Some made-up dates.
If you have multiple x's in a column, change all but the most recent to "Done" or something other than x This approach looks for the date in Column A that matches a single x in a task column.
This example works on years. I hope you change your oil and filter more often .
One Header Row and four Footer Rows. Enter Years between services (D9) from the keyboard.
To find the date of the last service (the only x in Column D)
    D10 contains this formula:
    =INDEX($A,MATCH("x",D,0))
You can Fill Right to other columns.
"Years since" (D11) contains this formula:
    =YEAR(TODAY())-YEAR(D10)
    "Alert" (D12) contains this formula:
    =IF(D11>D9,"Hey, You!", "OK")
Conditional Formatting in D12 sets the text to red if it equals "Hey, You!"
It would be best to combine these steps into one complex formula. Numbers is slowed down with each Header or Footer in a Table.
    Regards,
    Ian.

It not clear from your post, but I get the impression you are inquiring about Numbers for OSX. This is the iOS iWork forum. You may want to repost here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/iwork/numbers
If I'm wrong, and you are asking about Numbers for iOS, these links may help: http://help.apple.com/numbers/ipad/2.2/#/tan5ca02385

But Numbers for iOS does not fully support conditional text.

  • Work around for deprecated getIds() and getSession()

    Hi All,
As getIds() and getSession() methods of HTTPSessionContext are deprecated I need to know some work around for them. Can anyone please help me out ?
My problem is as follows -
My application has users who can have more than one login till a maximum number. After that maximum number is reached, if same user tries to make another login system will only allow him/her to make it after removing all of his/her previous logins. As a part of that, system should also delete all the sessions associated with those previous logins. Now the methods getIds() and getSession() being deprecated, I don't know how it can be done without going to some persistent data layer (like database).
I'm using WebSphere application server and the solution need to be applicable even for a clustered environment (i.e. I may need to put both of my web tier and application tier in a clustered environment).
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sourav

i don't know about handling the multi tier issue but you can easily put an instance into the ServletContext that keeps track of the associations between users and sessions and can react accordingly.

  • Work around for kindle on ipad 1

Restored my ipad 1 and lost kindle access due to update.  Is there a work around for this?

Not sure that you fully searched the Amazon Kindle site. They tell you how to download a 5.1.1-compatible version of the Kindle App if you have not previously done so:
Important: iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices with iOS 6.0 or later are able to download the latest version of the Kindle reading app. If your device is running iOS 5.0 and you previously downloaded the Kindle application using the Apple account that is associated with your device, you will have the option of downloading a version of the Kindle application that is compatible with iOS 5.0. If you've never downloaded the Kindle application using the Apple account that is associated with your device and you want to download a version that is compatible with iOS 5.0, you'll need to first get the latest available version of the application on your Apple account, using the iTunes Store from your computer.
So, download the current Kindle version to iTunes, then, according to this paragraph, you will then have the option of downloading the 5.x compatible version. I would imagine that if you have issues getting the 5.x version after downloading the current version, you can contact Amazon support to get help. They have always been helpful for me.
    Cheers,

  • Work around for server not found problems on FF36

I have found a work around for all the people having server not found problems with FF36.
If you manually set your network adapter DNS to an external DNS server (as opposed to your local ISP) then the problem goes away. I set mine to use the two google DNS servers:
    Preferred: 8.8.8.8
    Alternate: 8.8.4.4
Not a clue why this works but it is 100% successful on my desktop PC, whereas before I could hardly connect to a webpage with FF36 without multiple page refreshes and much frustration, even though FF35 was fine and rolling back to FF35 was also fine.
Something has changed in FF36 and either the way it handles DNS or the way it works with some network adapters.
It is nothing to do with add-ons, profiles or firewall software as I have tried all of these things and only the DNS change made a difference. I even copied over a full working profile and the program files directory for Mozilla from my portable which was having no problems and the problem still existed on the desktop, which is why I started looking at the network adapater since everything else between the working PC and the non working one was identical.
Hopefully this will help the developers to pin down the real cause of the problem and fix it in the next release.

Well done. Thanks for finding that.
That is not only assigned but has an approved patch included in the scheduled Fx36.0.1 release so it should be fixed in few days, watch out for the upgrade.
    * Bug 1093983 - DNS resolver should not use 'ANY' to get cached records for TTL [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1093983#c35 c#35]
    * https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Channels/Meetings/2015-03-03#Schedule_Update
With the bug now fixed it would not really be appropriate to add further comment. I do now see another related bug assigned but not being fast tracked, so if all goes well that will probably land in Firefox 39.
    * Bug 1138242 - DNS: Request A and AAAA record types rather than ANY when obtaining TTL on Windows

  • URGENT - work around for Epson printer driver!

I'm urgently looking for a work around for Epson Stylus Office TX600FW printer/scanner multifunction drivers (not currently available) for Lion OS 10.7. Any options avaiable?

I'm not sure if this will work, in fact I have my doubts, but it's worth a try if there's no other option - I suspect you've already thought of this though...
I wondered about trying this myself - can you re-install SL on an external, if you don't have a backup copy of it still around, and download the Epson drivers to that,  move the docs that you need to print and work from there?

  • Work around for iPad V's kindle?

Many posts declaring the differences between the kindle and the iPad seem to ignore that the iPad NEEDS wifi connection to download a book and the kindle does not. I am a Macaholic since forever, but I think this is a significant difference.
I am verbally accosted at dinners or parties about this. Many people I know a
Were ready to flip to the iPad but this has stopped them...for instance they can download a book on the beach with the kindle and not on the iPad. Here. Is my question..could using the kindle app be a work around for this issue?
Thanks in advance for any responses!

Ian, I guess I struck a nerve with you
Honest, I am not out to bash a company I have only the utmost respect and admiration for, no parody on my words is needed.
However, if a friend says he can go to the beach/out in his back yard and download a book...why would I try to argue his rational point? In fact if he is done with his book he has been reading and wants to either preview or buy another...he is S.O.L.
These are people that have had a kindle for awhile and are not really high profile Mac users...or even well initiated Internet users
In trying to become adoptive of the Apple concept and possibly first time Apple users...they are pointing out why they considered and then chose not to flip to the Ipad
Having myself practically every new laptop/desktop and gizmo Apple has produced since the 90's I must say I went for the wifi model only b/c I did not want another fee from AT&T
I just believe Apple missed on the ability to directly download books without a fee based system...and one could probably point to their unattractive association with ATT&T to blame it on!!

There is a way to do this.
But it works or not, I have no idea.
    Enable  "Develop menu".
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click the Develop menu and select "User Agent"
There are choices. Do not forget to make Safari default again afterwards.
