I need forum for beginner learner in inventory purchase and SCM modules
I need forum for beginner learner in inventory purchase and SCM modules
Saging,
Hmmm. It seems a bit odd to be creating a 'forecasting-of-material-procurement' tool, when SAP has so many already built in, either within ERP or within APO. Oh well, I am sure there must be a good reason.
I have seen from our systems that most loads come from APO going to BI. Is it always that way?
BI type data can come from any source. The most common BI solutions I have seen is where BI data are extracted from the main ERP. However, the beauty of BI is that it doesn't care, SAP builds in functionality to get data from anywhere.
Are data from ECC considered as well?
They can be if you design it so.
You should be aware that most data existing in ERP that are relevant for material planning also usually exist in APO. The Core Interface between ERP and APO is normally set up to natively replicate substantial quantities of Master data and also transactional data. It may be that in your business environment, you really don't need to connect to anything other than APO. However, this is not a limitation of BI, it is just smart programming to try to minimize the number of sources of your data.

Report needed - Open materials on PO, sorted by material and not PO number
Hello,
I've been trying to obtain a report that can give me a list of materials that are open for all PO numbers. Instead of this being sorted by PO number, I want it sorted by material number.
I've gone through all the ME2 transactions (i.e. ME2L, ME2M, ME2N, etc.) and all iterations of the scope of list with the selelction parameter WE101, but every time it comes up sorting by Purchase Order and then listing the open materials on the specific PO.
I've gone through transaction ME80FN, which gives all the proper information I need, but there's no indicator in there looking for materials with only open quantities...it only gives both open and closed.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a standard SAP report that can be accessed?
Edited by: Andy Slania on Sep 27, 2010 9:15 PMAndy,
I don't think there is one in the older R/3 systems. I don't really know, because I quit looking after I discovered SAP Query (SQ01)..
If a standard SAP report doesn't meet business requirements, one can have an ABAPer create a custom (Z) report. However, another path is to use SQ02/SQ01 to create reports that may meet the needs, without commissioning a new ABAP report.
In 4.6C it is possible to create Queries that have all the data found in the ME2* reports, but additionally can have ALV output. Of course, in your case, since you can define 'sorts' in queries, ALV becomes a moot point.
A Query expert can create enhanced PO reports that will satisfy most any requirement. If the query infoset uses a SAP database, such as MEPOLDB, then it is not even necessary to create joins of tables - SAP has already done the heavy lifting.

Linking Word Docs in RH8 - Need Workflow Critique, Best Practices Tips, etc.
Me: TCS 2
Writer 2: Word 97, Acrobat Pro 8
Software industry
Help File Specs: Using RH8 to output to AIR Help (prior to current project = CHM), approx. 500 topic legacy help system (apparently created several years ago from the Word U.G; no CSH, index, or glossary); project uses one master page and one CSS
Project Challenges: Big new features being added at the 9th hour, deadline moved UP by two months, have just been given a writer to help document new features but she only has Word and Acrobat (and we both work from our home offices)
After reading everything in the RH Help on Linking Word docs, Peter's info (RH8 Tour on Grainge.org), the related posts I found here, and watching RJ's demo on Linking vs. Importing, I've come up with a tentative workflow. Going to do some tests, but wanted to get this posted in the meantime.
Workflow
1. Generate separate Word file for each of the existing RH topics Writer 2 will need to update.
2. Apply template to Word files that matches my CSS styles (?)
3. Create Word template matching my CSS styles for Writer 2 to use for new topics.
4. Writer 2 updates/creates content. Each Word file =One RH Topic.
5. I delete the existing topics she now "owns" from the project.
6. When she's done with her first pass, I link all of these into the project.
7. When she supplies revised files, I drop them into the folder, then do "Update" (or "Force Update"?)
8. She also supplies a commented PDF version of each file to me to say "XYZ.jpg goes here" or "Make sure to include this topic in the TOC". (From what I've read, images from Word to RH = headache, and I don't enjoy files names such as "Image0001"...already a big pain since this project originated in Word and my client is in love with screen captures...trying to "wean" them off.)
Questions/Comments
- I know you can bring TOC entries over from Word, but think I'll spend more time messing with trying to integrate into the "master" TOC than just manually doing it.
- Can I just have Writer 2 use the Word Comments feature to pass info on to me, or would those show up in my output or cause some other issue?
- Can Writer 2 use Word cross-references that would become hyperlinks to the correct topics in RH given above (or would all of her "topics" have to be in one Word file to do this)? Any way she can "code" text to end up creating a link to one of my topics, or am I going to have to do this?
- Would I be better off generating one big Word file for her to edit, then telling RH to break it at a certain heading style instead of the 1-to-1 ratio I had in mind?Hi there
In my own opinion, Panning is a nice attempt, but just doesn't cut the mustard. It's nowhere near as good as the panning one sees with Camtasia Studio.
I might suggest combining Camtasia with Captivate for the ultimate development set. There are aspects Captivate shines in when compared with Camtasia, and there are aspects Camtasia shines in when compared with Captivate. So I say if you can afford it, go for it!
Now I know that both packages are sort of pricey and not everyone can afford both. In that case you might want to try Jing, which is free to use. I've not looked very deeply at it, but it may offer some of what Camtasia does. You could then use that for your panning and enhance Captivate that way.
Cheers... Rick

BADIs
Business add-ins are enhancements to the standard version of the system.
Business Add-In is a new SAP enhancement technique based on ABAP Objects.
They can be inserted into the SAP system based on specific user requirements.
Each Business Add-In has:
at least one Business Add-In definition
a Business Add-In interface
a Business Add-In class that implements the interface
In order to enhance a program, a Business Add-In must first be defined
Subsequently two classes are automatically generated:
An interface with IF_EX_ inserted between the first and second characters of the BADI name.
An adapter class with CL_EX_ inserted between the first and second characters of the BADI name.
The Application developer creates an interface for this Add-In.
There are multiple ways of searching for BADI.
Finding BADI Using CL_EXITHANDLER=>GET_INSTANCE
Finding BADI Using SQL Trace (TCODE-ST05).
Finding BADI Using Repository Information System (TCODE- SE84).
1. Go to the Transaction, for which we want to find the BADI, take the example of Transaction VD02. Click on System->Status. Double click on the program name. Once inside the program search for CL_EXITHANDLER=>GET_INSTANCE.
Make sure the radio button In main program is checked. A list of all the programs with call to the BADIs will be listed.
The export parameter EXIT_NAME for the method GET_INSTANCE of class CL_EXITHANDLER will have the user exit assigned to it. The changing parameter INSTANCE will have the interface assigned to it. Double click on the method to enter the source code.Definition of Instance would give you the Interface name.
2. Start transaction ST05 (Performance Analysis).
Set flag field "Buffer trace"
Remark: We need to trace also the buffer calls, because BADI database tables are buffered. (Especially view V_EXT_IMP and V_EXT_ACT)
Push the button "Activate Trace". Start transaction VA02 in a new GUI session. Go back to the Performance trace session.
Push the button "Deactivate Trace".
Push the button "Display Trace".
The popup screen "Set Restrictions for Displaying Trace" appears.
Now, filter the trace on Objects:
V_EXT_IMP
V_EXT_ACT
Push button "Multiple selections" button behind field Objects
Fill: V_EXT_IMP and V_EXT_ACT
All the interface class names of view V_EXT_IMP start with IF_EX_. This is the standard SAP prefix for BADI class interfaces. The BADI name is after the IF_EX_.
So the BADI name of IF_EX_CUSTOMER_ADD_DATA is CUSTOMER_ADD_DATA
3. Go to Maintain Transaction (TCODE- SE93).
Enter the Transaction VD02 for which you want to find BADI.
Click on the Display push buttons.
Get the Package Name. (Package VS in this case)
Go to TCode: SE84->Enhancements->Business Add-inns->Definition
Enter the Package Name and Execute.
Here you get a list of all the Enhancement BADIs for the given package MB.

Remote Function Call:
RFC is an SAP interface protocol. Based on CPI-C, it considerably simplifies the programming of communication processes between systems.
RFCs enable you to call and execute predefined functions in a remote system - or even in the same system.
RFCs manage the communication process, parameter transfer and error handling.

Need workflow for Advanced Analysis for Office for Sizing
Hi,
I am in the process of sizing for BO solution .
Part of that exercise is to find out how much cpu and memory are required for AAO?
So i thought trace the AAO workflow and understand which BO services/servers it requires.
If anyone any idea about it workflow, please share.
Thanks,
SrikarHi Srikar,
Analysis for office goes directly to SAP BW / SAP HANA for data retrieval, so there is no need to consider it as part of your sizing exercise.
There is a note though about client Hardware and Software requirements:
1466118 - Hardware & Software requirements for Advanced Analysis
The only exception here is the new scheduling capability of Analysis for Office in the BI Platform, in that case the Adaptive Job Server is used.
Best regards,
Victor -

New user needs workflow help..
Hi,
I have been using iMovie for years and love the product. I have done 3 documentary style films (60 - 90 minute range) using it. Call me crazy, but I did everything I needed to do in it quickly and easily.
Upon seeing the future of imovie with its latest release, I decided that instead of getting the new imovie, which I don't like, I would take the opportunity to upgrade to Final Cut Express instead. So I am transitioning my workflow from imovie to FCE.
Here's my current question: I have started to shoot footage for my latest film. Previously, in imovie.. I would then take all that footage and just import EVERYTHING into imovie. Since I shoot about 90 minutes of footage each week, I would just create a different imovie file, corresponding to each tape I used in the camera, so I'd have different files: week 1, week 2, etc. This allowed for ALL my footage to be in the computer in a way I could find things easily and not leave anything on the camera. Then I would edit down each week, once it was done I'd export that "sequence" and when all the sequences were done, I'd pull all the pieces into one new imovie file to do the final assembly, sound work, etc.
So what do you all recommend for switching over to FCE? In looking through the literature, it appears FCE stores all the video elements for all projects together, rather than in my weekly individual files. TO me, that means I have one file reference over 30 hours of raw video footage and that just makes me uneasy. So... do I do what I have always done and just import everything into FCE and then edit afterwards, or do I do a "first round" of editing when I import so that I am only capturing what I think I will use? What will give me the least amount of headaches come mid-October when I start to plow through all this footage and put the film together?Steve,
You can do it just about the same way in FCE, although there are some subtle differences & siginificantly greater editing capabilities in FCE.
You will have to create an FCE project in order to capture video from your camera. However, once captured, the resulting clips (which are actually QuickTime files on your hard drive) can be used & reused in any FCE project - they are not locked to the FCE project in which you captured them.
So, for example, you could capture each tape individually same as you always have (giving each tape a unique name - that's important). Each capture in FCE will give you a separate file on your hard drive. Then, instead of having a different iMovie file for each tape, you will have a different file (captured clip, in FCE terminology) on your hard drive for each tape.
You can then create a new FCE project (if you want to) and import any/all of the captured clips, edit them together as you desire, and export the resulting sequence.
In an FCE project, however, you have additional capabilities beyond iMovie to organize your clips - because in the FCE Browser you can create Bins & Folders with their own names and then import & organize your clips into them. You also have the capability to create multiple sequences in a single FCE project, so you wouldn't necessarily have to go through the extra steps & aggravation of exporting intermediate sequences only to reimport them for further editing. Nested sequences in FCE are a very powerful way of assembling a finished project from intermediate sequences & clips.
I do suggest that you get a copy of Tom Wolsky's excellent book, Final Cut Express HD 3.5 Editing Workshop to help you get started with FCE.
