Need XLS conversion-newbie

Hi. I need an alternate brain. Hubby set up my MacBookPro, also loading Microsoft Office 2004. When I am trying to open an Excel file, it says I don't have the right application to open it. I've been scouring around downloading a few fixes, (Keynote, MacOSXUpdCombo, Office2004-1156 update) and nothing is working to open the file. Some of these cannot even be loaded on my MacBook. What am I missing? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
PS. I am running OSX v. 10.6.6

If the files are, as you suggest, XLSX, there is a converter for XLSX files available for free from Microsoft, here. It's not perfect, but it works for most Excel files.

Need Content Conversion parameter help

Some Help to get started needed for a newbie

I am attempting to add some simple email functionality to a small utility
program I am writing in Delphi for my school. We have used Groupwise for
many years and I have programmed a bit in Delphi but mainly database work.
Can anyone tell me where to find some documentation that will help me to
get started in using the GW Tokens API with Delphi?
How do I install it?
Do I need a Type Library for it to use it effectively with Delphi?
Is there some sort of basic skeleton code that I can refer to?
I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone might offer here.

I need to associate these files with another program so that I can reoer the images and text. What player are you referring to? Is it Creative PlayCenter 2? Playcenter doesn't save any special extension to the files. It uses all the standard extension. eg. jpg,txt.... Not sure what you are trying to say.

Why does an iPhone 6 60p clip need rate conversion?

When I take clips with an iPhone 6+, they are supposedly taken in 60p (if enabled in "Settings"). When I import such a clip to FCP, it is reported as 60i. I also see this with every other high-res clips, such as the ones taken from a Sony RX-100: They show as 50i, but are 50p.
(Sorry, the labels are in German.)
I manually set the field dominance to "progressive", because that's what it is.
You may notice the strange dimension: iOS 8.0 had a bug that sometimes locked the direction sensor. This particular clip was shot with the bug active. The phone was held horizontally, but the clip is marked as having been recorded vertically.
The project (timeline) is 60p:
Now comes the tricky part: Every clip from the iPhone requires a rate conversion:
Why is this the case? Both clip and timeline are 60fps.
The same does not happen with a 50p timeline and 50"i" material from the Sony RX100.

I have a Verizon Wireless phone so there is no SIM card. I did call apple and they had me restore it in DFU mode. It still pops up as activation required at least once a day.

Check V$TRANSPORTABLE_PLATFORM, it shows the ending for each supported platform. Given the results on my 11g, I suspect that you'll have to convert the tablespaces...

Need some advice - Newbie starting an advertising business..

Hello,
I am new to Indesign, having used quark previously.
Basically i print and publish an advertisment magazine. I create these advertisements from scratch or in some cases from logos i am sent by the clients via email.
I need to understand whether the logo's sent by the clients need to be in a certain format in order for them to be used in Indesign?
How difficult is it to manipulate imported images using indesign?

Indesign supports quite an array of image formats, the most common illustator/photoshop .eps files .tif png. jpg. If your printing as you know .eps files are probably the best to use.
Well I have always been lead to believe they are.
If your putting together a set of guidelines for your client I would say you request files are either supplied as illustrator .eps files or photshop .eps/psd files with a PDF for back up/reference. If you have the native files you can then edit the files accordingly if the client wishes.
I used Quarkxpress for years 4.0 being the best to mind.
After that it became bloatware and found it diffiicult to get along with. CS is a dream to use as all Photoshop/Indesign and illustrator
utilise a very similar intuitive interface.
I would also recommned lynda.com for tutorials in the creative suite. You get videos and exercise files to work with so you can learn at your own pace.
Only ever havinig owned the DVDs I have never had a subscription. I'm sure there is a forum for feedback or anything that you do not understand.
As well as the Adobe Forums.

JRE install help needed with linux newbie

I recently tried installing the latest JRE for Linux AMD64, following all the guidelines listed in the install instructions. However, as I am completely new to the world of Linux, I don't know if anything needs to be done beyond the install guide in order to have the JRE up and running. I have tried setting up Open Office 2 to recognise the new JRE, but have had no luck. I don't know if this is a case of me not knowing the correct directory to give in Open Office, or whether I have missed something in the Install/Configuration.
In case you need to know, the installation unpacked to "/usr/java/jre1.5.0_06"

Need Hex conversion to char for 4 digits.

I need to read a file in and translate some of the characters into integers. I need the hex value from the character. Problem is, when using Cp850 which is the encoding of the file, some characters show as ? instead of the proper character.

Well, if you want to convert int or char values to hex, just do the following:
Integer.toHexString(int value);
Now, about your charset problem, I tried it and found out that you will definetly not be able to print strange characters in DOS.
I'll show you my example, it might help you; it prints out good in my computer...

Working with Raw-need a conversion and image sizing program

Shot in Raw with Finepix S100. I need to convert to 16bit Tiff RGB and reduce image size to 4000x3000 for Final cut pro use. After converting my Raw to 16Bit-Tiff, my images are 5440x4080. FP does not like anything larger than 4000x3000 .
The program one I am currently using came with the camera. It is time consuming, sluggish and refuses to forces me down to 8 bitTiff when I image size down to 4000x3000.
Can someone suggest an app or program that can convert to 16 bit-Tiff and also reduce image size?

Separate tablespaces - Need some assistance - Newbie

We want to have a Development tablespace and a Production tablespace on a single database. We will be using mostly Forms applications, and Portal to access and manipulate information on the database. The problem that we are trying to figure out right now is how to have these tablespaces be on the same database with the same table names not conflict with each other.
If I am developing an application and I want to use the development tablespace how can I do this while still allowing myself an easy transition to the production tablespace. For example, if I have a table named "test" and I want to access it in the development area I am thinking that I would have to do the following:
select * from dev.test
and then once the program is changed then change all the instances of dev to prod:
select * from prod.test
Is it possible to have 1 DB and 2 seperate enviornments within it? What is the best way to approach this???

The best way to accomplish this would be to create a second instance, preferably on a second server.
If resources do not allow this, then it means a lot of work for the dba:
1. drop all public synonyms related to the application.
2. revoke all priviledges from developers to the production data schema.
3. for each production user create private synonyms for the db objects against the production schema.
4. for each developer create private synonyms for the db objects against the development schema.
Creating private synonyms, will allow the developers to work on the app and not have to change the code for rollout. Revoking privs of the developers from the prod schema is for accident prevention. If the developers need to run against the production schema create them a second account with a prod prefix to force them to know where they are e.g.
user smithj <- dev account
user prodsmithj <- production account
If in doubt about any of this see my first statement.
