  • Display date on menu bar

I would like to add the date to the day and time display on the menu bar. Is there a way to do this? (I mean on the nenu bar itself - not the pulldown.) This is with OS 10.3.9
    Thanks for any help.

Color me confused, and a naive new Mac user (I'm a Solaris / Linux guy by profession, but the FreeBSD under the hood of OS X caught my eye), BUT:
What's up with System Preferences having options TITLED:
"Show Date and Time" "in the menu bar" with a variety of settings - and yet, in NO case does it ever actually display the DATE?? Okay, have it open as a window (or select the drop down), and you can see it, but... c'mon? I thought Apple was all about intuitive and logical UI / feature sets.
I'm just plain confused, by this, as well as the whole "July 17" iCal thing...
    <sigh>

  • Time is not being displayed in the menu bar.

    Hi,
I this morning i woke my mac from sleep to find that it is not displaying the time in the menu bar anymore. How do i fix this?

    Hello again Random,
Always a pleasure to assist and thank you for marking this one as solved.
As to why it happened - I have no idea, some possibilities though...
Running something like Onyx or YASU. Re-starting the computer. Updating Applications or the OS.
    At least its fixed though.
    Regards once more.

  • External display has no menu bar/dock when waking from sleep in clamshell mode

After Mountian Lion upgrade, external display shows no dock or menu bar when MBP wakes from sleep in clamshell mode.  I have to open and close the lid of the laptop to sort it out.  Any ideas?

MacBook is connected to AC adapter. My MacBook is almost new, I have it for only few months, connector looks clean.
I never had problems with AC adapter but I will try different wall outlet.
It's a shame that I have no other device with display port output so I can not test if the problem is with my display. With dual DVI connected to my desktop computer display works fine... for more than one year now...

  • Cannot display date in menu bar

For some reason, my computer (in OS 10.3.9) will only display the date & time in the floating window (by checking the box to display date & time and selecting the button to display in window thru system preferences), but won't display the date & time in the menu bar (even though it should since the menu bar button is selected in the system preferences).
This seems to be a bug in OS 10.3.9 that has not been fixed yet. Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it?
    Thanks

Hi ndl! And Welcome To Discussions!
From March 2006 MacAddict magazine p.56
    Open Terminal
At the prompt, type or copy & paste
    defaults write -g AppleICUTimeFormatStrings -dict-add 2 "MMMM d, y hh':'mm':ss' 'a"
    Press Return
    Then type killall SystemUIServer
Press Return again, and your menu bar will disappear.
Click anywhere on your Desktop to reload it.
This setting only affects your User Account; other users on the Mac will not see the change.
To restore your menu bar to normal, repeat the process, omitting the MMMM d, y part in the first Terminal command, like so:
    defaults write -g AppleICUTimeFormatStrings -dict-add 2 "hh':'mm':ss' 'a"
    For Tiger 10.4.x
Easily add the date to the menubar Mac OS X Hints
    For Panther 10.3.x
Add the date to the menubar clock Mac OS X Hints

  • Display missing out menu bar and part of dock

When I bought my computer I also got a mini display port to HDMI. At first it was missing some of the menu bar and dock and I turned underscan on and it was fine. I then unpluged it and the next time I plugged it in underscan is greyed out. I am using a samsung widescreen display. Can someone plz help me?

Hello, see if this might be it...
I think you accidentally hit CMD+Option+8, do it again, or open System Preferencess>Universal Access>Seeing & turn Zoom OFF.

  • Need customized query on updateable report (tabular form)

I have a pl/sql function that returns a SELECT statement based on very flexible query specifications allowed in a form. (Form has a field for each table column, allows operations like <,>,between, etc, that can be entered directly into the field; all fields need not have some sort of query constraint specified. Essentially the same sort of query flexibility you get in Forms... ) The select always returns the same number of columns. Query results are returned on a different page (either report or tabular form) than that used to enter the query specs.
The function works beautifully on a page type of Report.
However, when I take a Tabular Form and switch its query source to PL/SQL function body returns SQL select, the page type becomes Report. The query works on this modified page (returns correct rows), and the columns are still editable (can be typed into) but the changes can't be submitted because the page is no longer a tabular form -- Error is: No updateable report found. Multi row updated and delete operations can only be performed on tabular forms of type 'Updateable Report'.
How can I have flexible query specs paired w/ an updateable report? Does this require writing my own multi-row DML processes? Or is there a simpler way?
    Thanks,
    Carol

    Thanks Nancy,
However, two new issues appeared when I added the float, both the text in the menu and the image slider is now too far left.
    See image below.

  • Menu bar display

When I tick the box in Date and Time in Finder to display time in menu bar, nothing happens in menu bar. And when I try the same in sound to show volume control, it won't let me tick the display box. What is happening?

    Omanto, Sandy
You probably have a corrupt preference file, specifically 'systemuiserver.plist'. But there are potentially two of them, so ...
    In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
Then log out and back in again. You may need to go to System Preferences to put back the menu items you need to display.
If this alone doesn't work, you may need to delete your caches, so repeat the above and then:
    In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Caches", delete everything

  • Date display bug in Finder, iTunes, menu bar

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, many of the date displays fail to show the actual date and are either blank or only display a time (e.g., 7:32PM, even if it refers to a date in the past).
Here's what it looks like in Finder (these files were NOT added today, i.e. there should be a date other than the present day, but instead it only shows a time): http://tweetphoto.com/5603142
And in iTunes, the Release Date column is suddenly empty, while the Date Added one also shows only a time: http://tweetphoto.com/5603164
Lastly, the Date & Time display in the menu bar (upper right-hand corner) refuses to display the custom format I had specified (which worked fine in Leopard) and only shows it as a greyed-out "option": http://tweetphoto.com/5603193
    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
For the grayed out menu portion go to Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist and delete this file, Then, log out and back in.
For the time settings try doing a pram reset try a PRAM reset.
If that's not it try going to Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist and delete this file, Then, log out and back in.

  • Time display not updating on Menu Bar

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Retina laptop running OSX 10.8.3
The time display on the menu bar doesn't update unless I click on it.
Does anyone else have this problem?  Are there any solutions?  I have not been able to find any discussions about this.

Thanks LexSchellings for your reply and help.  I have nominated a time zone and unchecked "set time zone automatically .." as you have suggested.  I still need to restart the machine then time will tell if this solves my problem!  (Pun intended ... sorry!)
Thank you again for your response!

  • Menu Bar & Clock wont display AM / PM at all

How the flip do you get an AM / PM to display in the menu bar clock ?? My PB used too.
The option is greyed out and I have used International to set up AM/PM for the short time display.
    Annoying but not life threatening...
    cheers

Go to the International Pane in System Preferences and select the Format tab.
Click on 'Customise … ' in the Dates section, and decide how you want the date to look. Note the drop down menu where you can choose from Short, Medium, Long and Full. Once you've decided, and have the date format as you want it, click, drag and copy to the clipboard.
Now to the Time section. Note that you can choose how you want the hours to appear in 12-hour/24-hour clock time: 0-11, 00-11, 0-12, 00-12 etc.
You can have am/pm in uppercase or lowercase - type into the fields at the bottom of the window. Drag the blue am/pm button to the entry bar after the minutes, or seconds if you have them.
You can add spaces, colons etc to suit the look of it all as you wish.
After that, paste from the clipboard so you have the full Monty, both Time and Date, and click OK to close the window.
(If you decided to insert the day during the customising process, you might have the day at the beginning as well, in abbreviated form. Just go to the Date & Time Pane and uncheck 'Show day of the week'.)

  • HT5891 Is there a way to remove the menu bar from a secondary display while still using the "Displays have separate spaces" mode?

Is there a way to remove the menu bar from a secondary display while still using the very useful "Displays have separate spaces" mode?
The reason I ask is that most full-screen video playback in most applications, from iTunes to Flash/Silverlight plugins do not take up the full screen, instead leaving space for the menu bar (in the case of iTunes) or leaving the menu bar present on top of the video (for fullscreen Flash/Silverlight videos).
This is annoying for several reasons ranging from the obvious distraction factor to the fact that 1080p video is not played back at native resolution on a 1080p display.
If there is no way to disable this functionality while maintaining separate spaces, I would (humbly) suggest that a future update to Mavericks allow non-Lion-style* full-screen apps to take over the entire display.
*Lion-style full-screen apps are those that animate into a full-screen mode when the opposing-arrows full-screen button in the upper-right-hand corner of the window is pressed.

No. Turning that off reverts to the old display setup. You have one desktop spanned across all displays. The menu bar appears on the primary display only.

  • How do I permanently display the Airplay icon in the menu bar of my MacBook Pro?

The Airplay icon on my MacBook Pro is not permanently displayed on my menu bar. How do I get it to be always present on the menu bar?

Could you post a screenshot of that please. Is it located in the area under the black Apple?
