Needed security rights?

We have made a website, that runs a Web Service, that interacts with InDesign CS2 Server on a Windows Server 2003. When the DCOM configuration of the Adobe server is set to use Launching user its fails with a ActiveX component can't create object: InDesignServer.Application.
To make it work, we changed the DCOM config, to use a specific account, by selecting the This user option, and specify an administrator user account.
This works fine, but I was hoping that a user with fewer rights could be used for the job, since I dont like the idea of having a website interaction through an administrator account.
Has anyone sorted out what is needed for the account that runs the server? And if not, does anyone know if its a big security risk to use an administrator to launch the Adobe InDesign Server DCOM?
Thanks!

Running 'InDesign' via administration account rights helps me to solve problem with this annoying error:
"Cannot handle the request because a modal dialog or alert is active"

If you are using OS X you already have it.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up",  "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
The same goes for a spontaneously appearing dialog insisting that you upgrade your video player right this instant. Such popups are frequently associated with sites that promise to deliver "free" movies or other copyrighted content that is not normally "free".
The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Uploading Security profiles & Security rights using sourcing Workbook

I am trying to use workbook to upload Security profiles & Security rights, and finding it difficult to get the "Resource" field mapping attributes in "eso_security_profiles" tab of the workbook. Is there a reference sheet for this, or a place from where I can map the display names with resource.
Example: If I want update the security rights for Currency attribute with in Master Data under Security Rights tab, we need to use "masterdata.Currency" in "Resource" field of "eso_security_profiles" tab in the workbook. similarly from where can we get the entire list of attributes and thier Resource.

    Hi,
When I take the download from localized resources (*.class_name), inorder to map the display security attributes to "Resource" in workbook, I am still unable to find the Resource for few attributes like..below..

  • I need the right plug in for my online tech training course--HELP!

I need the right plug in for my online tech training course--it requires Macropedia Flash Player 8 and Internet Exploder 8 (but worked with my Safari ver 5.06). I updated my iMac software and Acrobat application software and now it won't show the study material nor animations.... I have MacOSX ver 10.5.8, 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB 667 MHz and Acrobat X.   How do I get back to what I had previously?!? PS: my Time Machine is not setup so that won't do the trick this time...

About Safari 5.1.7 and Leopard Security Update 2012-003
    Summary
Learn about Safari 5.1.7 and Leopard Security Update 2012-003.
    Products Affected
    Mac OS X 10.5, Product Security, Safari 5.1 (Mac OS X 10.6), Safari 5.1 (OS X Lion)
Safari 5.1.7 for OS X Lion, Safari 5.1.7 for OS X Snow Leopard, and Leopard Security Update 2012-003 disable out-of-date versions of Adobe Flash Player.
Out-of-date versions of Adobe Flash Player do not include the latest security updates and will be disabled to help keep your Mac secure. If Safari 5.1.7 or Leopard Security Update 2012-003 detects an out-of-date version of Flash Player on your system, you will see a dialog informing you that Flash Player has been disabled. The dialog provides the option to go directly to Adobe's website, where you can download and install an updated version of Flash Player.
    Additional Information
If you need to re-enable an out-of-date version of Flash Player, you can do the following:
Navigate to the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (Disabled) folder.
    Drag "Flash Player.plugin" into /Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
If the browser is running, quit and restart it.

  • Mac's don't need AntiVirus right?

Mac's don't need AV right?! An AppleCare support rep allegedly talks: http://t.co/9BKa9zm

The key take-away from the AppleCare rep's comment was, "many people are falling for this attack." (emphisis mine).
There are also lots of people sending a "processing fee" to a Nigerian Prince, expecting to have "millions" wired into their bank account. Instead, their bank account is drained. People get conned every day--nothing new here.
The key is that people are poorly educated and are being suckered. Partly because of their conception of needing anti-malware on Windows fueled by the nattering of the page-hit-hos.
The sites that squeal like stuck pigs about this are hoping for some failure in Mac OS X security because it sickens them that we can be so smug about our choice in OS. They certainly don't help matters with their sensationalistic headlines. What they should be emphasizing is how easy someone can sucker you out of your money and how simple it is just to dismiss the scare-ware.
Don't be stupid when surfing the net. You don't need anti-malware on your Mac, you just need to use your brain.
If you wish to surf completely brain-dead, then pay someone to hold your hand in the form of Anti-malware software. Or, use the free stuff. However, there is no anti-malware out there that will prevent you from accepting the installation of malware by entering your admin password when some random scare page pops up on the screen.

  • Can't install ; i need administrator rights that i have

    Hello,
I tried many time to install Air but I always failed...
They keep telling me that I need administrator rights, but I have and i launch the installation with them.
I tried many ways (like using this as told : http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall/en-us but it didn't work as well, the program is uninstalled - I need to install it again -, and it doesn't appear on the installation programs...) and searched everywhere but without success ; that's why I finally decided to ask here.
    Thank you for your help.

  • App that need admin rights

I have an app they the support people state you need to login in as admin to run. I can confirm this. Even when I virtualized the app I still could not run it as a non-admin. I made a ZEN app and run it as a unsecure system user.
I think the software is poorly made, but do not have any choice.
Is there something is ZAV to make it run as a admin that I am missing?? The thing is we may be moving away from ZEN 7 to something else, but will still use ZAV.

$(UIt really depends on what the app is trying to do. One of the core benefits of ZAV is not having to be admin to deploy applications. For example, if an app needs to read/write from System 32, this can be done in the Virtual System 32.
The app may be checking the rights on the logged in user and seeing if it's in the Administrators group. If that is the case, virtualization will not help you.

I was wondering what’s your biggest frustration with security right now? I write a security blog and was thinking about it. If you don't mind please share!
    Thank you for your time!

I am working with some random logs at work on a Windows computer. I am just learning bash script and cant figure this out. The lines I am lookin for contain error and launcher, and I would like the line on the log that contains both of those words to then be copied to a text document that I can reference later. If you all could help me out and maybe walk through what you are doing step by step. I am working hard to try and figure this out all to no avail.-Cant figure out how to grep for a word and then another-I then cant figure out how to copy the line to a new document so I can reference laterThank you so much in advance.
