Need help installing Flex !

Hope you people are fine !
Well, have a good background in PHP/MySQL etc, now, I want to expand my skills set and want to learn Flex my self.
I have a local server with WAMP (Windows XP - Apache - MySQL - PHP). Now, I want to install the necessary files / setups so that Flex files can run on Apache etc through browser.
Please guide me what are the things i would need to run flex files on my computer. (I do no want ADOBE AIR) and I want to use browser, i.e. web based applications.

Apache just serves the Flex app SWF file and its wrapper HTML file.
So you don't need to do anything on the server side.

Need help on Flex plug in using with QTP

Hi, I am using Flex plug in 4.5 for QTP 11.0 to automate testing for a flex application developed using Flex builder 3.5. Application contains some charts and I need to get values from the lineseries inside chart using QTP. Does anyone knows whether Adobe Flex plug in supports my requirement?

Need help on Flex JSP tag library

I am new to Flex and currently developing portlets where I
need to integrate Flex into JSP pages. According to various
documents from Adobe and other online discussions, this can be done
with Flex JSP tag library. It appears that the taglib used to be a
separate package that you could download but no longer available (I
was only able to find a few broken links). Instead, the library is
now part of the LiveCycle DS product according to Adobe. However, I
have downloaded LiveCycle DS and couldn't find the necessary taglib
in the package. Your help will be highly appreciated.

I'm trying to do the same thing you are. Its mentioned that
the library is part of LifeCycle DS but I couldn't find it in there
either.

Should I switch to Mac for CF/Flex/SQL development?

I'm contemplating a move to Mac for my local development
environment. I have seen quite a number of people using Mac for
CF/Flex/Flash development. Those are my primary programming
platforms - though I'm planning on adding AJAX and .NET to my
arsenal soon. I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on the
benefits and drawbacks of switching to Mac:
Do the IDEs (i.e. Flex Builder, Eclipse, Fireworks, etc.)
work well?
Are there any other important programs (i.e. Source Control,
Wireframing/Mockups) that will (or will not) work well?
What about database development? I'm used to SQL Server - can
it run on a Mac? If so, how well does it work?
Any other issues I should know about developing on a Mac?
I know this is very vague, but I'm looking for any
constructive feedback I can get, to help me make a wise decision.

I wouldn't switch if you want to do .NET / SQL Server
development. Most people on Macs who do SQL Server development
either use a remote server or run it in a Windows Virtual Machine.
Important programs are available for both OSes, but without
knowing which ones you use it's hard to say whether you just need
to install the "mac version" or whether you'd need to install a
brand new one.

Need HELP to learn OAF development

Hi,
I am an experienced oracle financials developer. Most of my experience has been on using Developer 6i tools to develop front end and reports. Now I am planning to learn OAF framework to develop or to make customizations to the modules like iprocurement,iStore etc.
I would like to know what is the best way to start the learning process?
Is it possible to learn/practice the OAF framework(from oracle applications perspective) on my personal machine( it has oracle 10g personal edition installed), with out having access to oracle applications instance?
I would like to know if there are any good books/tutorials on OAF usage in Oracle applications?
Please let me know.

You need full access, including sysadmin responsibility.Do we need to have access to instance in terms of unix servers or just access to the applications is good enough?
It would be good to have Unix access , for deploying pages , classes etc.Do we need to create any new responisbilities to practice OAF concepts?
Not required, but a better option.What resposibilities or what level of access do we need to have on oracle application instance to practice OAF concepts?

Probably wasn't a good idea to install beta software on a device when you're not a developer.
Apple clearly states that beta software is not to be installed on production devices.
Not really much you can do except wait for iOS 6.1 to be officially released and then install it.

I have a mac pc, recently went into iPhoto I needed a picture to be developed. Opened iPhoto and notice I no longer have over 300 photo's. Can someone out there tell me where they went to ?

When you post in the iMac forum be sure to give your iMac model identifies no. i.e., iMac X,X, which can be found by going to your Applications/Utilities folder and launching System Information.app. In the Hardware Overview section you'll see the Model Identifier.
Give them the system you're running and details of what you're experiencing and when.

I need to migrate an XPI developed for Firefox 2.x on Solaris to Firefox 3.6 for Windows

I need to migrate an XPI developed for Firefox 2.x on Sun Solaris to Firefox 3.6 on Windows. The XPI archive contains a XUL file which gives many error messages when I use the XPI addon:
C:\>firefox.exe -trmail-view
What would be the best approach? Try to modify existing files XUL/JS files or start with the new JS files from Firefox 3.6 Windows?

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. See https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

New multi-platform Mobile Flex app development

I thought I'd post this note to encourage anyone that hasn't tried multi-platform Mobile Flex application development yet. Inside 4 weeks, I managed to get this application up on both the Android and Apple app stores:

It's a pretty simply app, but it demos a number of features:
Multi-DPI scaling (splash screen and background)
Multi-touch gestures
Colour Picker dialog that scales based on available screen space
Portrait/Landscape orientation
Pre-rendered icons (for iOS)
Works for both tablets and mobile phones
Some challenges I ran into:
The DPI differences between tablets and mobiles - the tablet version's imagesare scaled slightly. It would be nice if the code didn't have to do "isTablet" checks
The scaling of filter effects (e.g. glow) had to be handled manually. Though this could be due to the way the text is scaled, rather than using a projection to zoom in & out...
The animation for showing/hiding the controls got confused if the screen was rotated at the same time.
Making the toolbar icons more-touchable by adding transparent pixels to the edges, so that the image size matched the desired hotspot size (45px).

hi all, i'm going to pick up a Mac Mini this thursday with the intention of developing for the iOS platform. i just wanted to know what i'll need to do to begin developing so i can begin as soon as possible. i know i'll need XCode and a developer license from Apple. will i need anything else?

Max the ram in your mini.
Buy what you need to have a reliable backup.
Get the largest monitor you can afford.
Get an iPhone and iPad for testing.
Update Lion to 10.7.3 and use Xcode 4.3.1
Get a good image edtior, text editor and if you intend to do video and audio, apps to edit and manage those resources as well. See the (Mac) App Store.
