Needing a mini to video/audio edit/produce.

been digging deeper and deeper into video and audio production and editing.
currently im running a 24" imac 2.4ghz, 1gb ram, i use it as my everyday computer and i been playing around with some video editing and a good bit of audio production. (im going to eventually upgrade the ram in this thing)
my question is, im looking to pick up a mac mini and run a dual display. this mini will ONLY be used for video and audio production. the video production i might add is nothing very over the top. just your simple credits, adding music, and clipping scenes. (im producing some how-to halloween prop dvd's and haunted house walk through) for audio production again, nothing very over the top.
im looking to pick up a mini due to the price. a mac pro is way out of my price range.
what do you think would be the best route mini wise to go for? 2.66? thinking my 2.4 has been working fine a 2.53 should be fine? and as for the ram. i planned on upgrading the ram to around 4 or even 8 gigs in the future. for the hard drive space, for movies and audio production im going to need something decent in size. thinking 500gigs i could always do something external in the future?
i was also pondering the mini server, 2 500 gigs with 4gig ram and 2.53mhz. BUT lacking a super drive thats really no problem because im running an external lacie lightscribe.
so im asking you guys/gals what would be the best route for me to take, price wise and bang for my buck to create a nice little video/audio machine?

I also bought a new 3.06 Mhz IMac 21.5 in IMAC this spring. I was unfamiliar with the new miniport. I was on the phone with Apple Sales for buying a new MacBookPro and while ordering wanted to add on the cables necessary to accomplish connecting my new IMAC to my HDMI tv. I have been accustomed to connecting my old g4 laptop with adaptors and a long cable on end is HDMI and the other connects right into the video port out on my laptop. But the older method leaves you without sound.
So...the Apple guy is in a hurry to sell me a computer and insists there is no Apple IMAC or MacBookPro which will work with video and sound to HDMI. I had the item in my inbasket at MacMall. I may be wrong. But I gave up on ordering it. I picked up an HDMI to HDMI extension cord at Best Buy and ordered the Mini video adapter to HDMI connector from Apple store. I haven't opened it yet or set it up. But what does one need to buy to make this work. Since the guy didn't help me. I had to buy it online separately. And since I had ready acct with Apple , just bought it there although it was about 15% cheaper at MCMALL.
Please someone in the know or who watches their computer on their HDMI TV help tell me what cables to buy and where to connect them to my tv. I have a Sony Bravia and it has an internet thing on the side. I haven't used it for anything yet. I have cable/dvr,blue ray dvd, and input from laptop.
Thanks in advance. Rheta in San Diego

  • Video/audio editing bug in Media Encoder

I have a large MOV file that contains multiple film
presentations, one after the other. They are separated by a few
seconds of dead air. I'm using Video Encoder's built-in edit tool
to slide to the end of a presentation and then export that to FLV.
Using my arrow keys, I can pinpoint the exact millisecond I want it
    to stop.
However, when I export these to FLV files, audio (but not
video) continues to play for several seconds even past the point at
which I had set the cutoff.
I tried duplicating the same thing using Flash 8 Video
Encoder, and didn't have a problem. It only appears to be an issue
    with Flash CS3 Video Encoder.
Can anyone duplicate what appears to be a bug?

  • Split Video/Audio Edits in FCE timeline

Using the trim tool between 2 clips in the timeline only seems to let me trim Video and Audio locked together.
(This is the case when the original clip contains the synced Audio Video)
I can't seem to find a way to split the edit (ie.roll the video out further along the timeline than the audio other than locking the audio tracks -not ideal)
How can I select the video only for trimming when the original clip contains the synced AV?

    Hi -
If you don't want to link and unlink clips, or lock and unlock tracks, another method to accomplish what you want to do is to not use the trim window. Instead, directly on the timeline, use the Roll Tool. While using the Roll Toll, hold down the option key and click on the video transition you want to move and drag it to a new position. It will move only the video transition directly under the clip, and leave your audio as it was. You can also use this to move the audio cut points without moving the video.
    Hope this helps.

  • Video-audio signals through firewire?

Gentlemen, we need to export our video-audio signals of our projects from timeline to a DV tape external deck recorders or a Betacam to be recorded into tapes too. In FCP7 we did it through the firewire i/o option from the timeline, but with FCPX we found it is not possible. Do you know if the version FCP X.3 will let me do this task? We edit long projects, as Broadcast programes for Television of one or two hours duration, in iMacs i5 stations.
    Thanks to all.

I have the same problem here, having spent much time getting a workflow sorted in order to use Soundtrack Pro 2.02 via exported markers from Final Cut for a dubbing project it seems that when video is output onto a second screen the audio disappears (desktop preview).
Also get a message after about 5 seconds saying that ST Pro can't play the audio due to hard disk not fast enough (I can run a 36 track mix in Logic..) and to remove 'Long files' or quit apps, but am not running anything else and I only have one audio track!
Another thread with a similar issue suggested rebuilding permissions, this I have done and verified drive, plus tried using an external drive for files too. No difference. Seems interesting that the possible link is due to FCP export? I noticed at one point that ST was still referencing the original clips in FCP even after making them independent and exporting as separate files.
Also can't see the Timecode hud when it is on the second monitor when video is playing there (shows fine on desktop on second screen). It's vital to be able to see the timecode over the presented video as this is being fed to a dubbing cabin.
Come on Apple give us some support here as it seems rare that such problems get any direct answers from you! I've just paid a packet for the Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio suites and our whole production is being delayed by these issues (and many others!)

    Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

  • How do I edit the video audio in Adobe Premiere Elements 10

I want to edit the video audio, so that I can get rid of some of the sounds and background noises.  Also, how do you import Plug-ins into Adobe Premiere Elements 10?  I have trial versions of Adobe Audition CC and SmartSound.  Thanks in advance for your help!

    woody122
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on? And, very important, what video card/graphics card  does your computer use.
If a NVIDIA GeForce card, then that needs to be looked at first because of the serious and known Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA GeForce issue which is described in one of the announcements at the top of this forum.
SmartSound is an feature included with Premiere Elements 10. Why are you looking at any trial version of SmartSound?
As for Adobe Audition CC, I was not aware that this is a plug-in. As far as I know, Adobe Audition CC is an application that Premiere CC can integrate with as a CC application which Premiere Elements is not.
    See the following video tutorial
Clean up Premiere Pro audio clips with Audition | Adobe Creative Cloud tutorials
Look at the price tag afterward, probably on subscription rates?
Please check out the Premiere Elements 10 audio effects, especially those related to noise reduction.
Have you looked at the free audio editor named Audacity and its noise reduction opportunities?
Please give more details in support of your Adobe Audition CC being a plug-in if you are confident that it is.
    Thanks.

  • Captivate 7: Need help to diagnose background audio which increases suddenly mid-video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hQ1GJpVQNU
I inserted a music file into the video background.  At 1:39 you'll hear the background music suddenly jump up in volume.
When I imported the audio file to the background, I edited it by adjusting the volume.  The volume was reduced appropriately in the preview, however, as you can hear, it jumps significantly.  There is nothing I can see either in the audio file - or in the other elements that may cause this.
I've tried deleting and re-importing and changing the volume using the  threshhold/ ratio settings (versus just the volume bar), but nothing changes that jump.
    Any help is appreciated!

Thanks for considering the problem! Unfortunately, as I stated above, the voiceover needs to be a background audio file that plays throughout the project. It's not possible to record audio-per-slide because of the structure of the video - and because I do a lot of editing of the audio files for 8-minute videos.
FYI - I was able to have a chat conversation with a support tech. Here is the transcript of that chat:
Anvinder: We have not tested the workflow of captivate 7 with yosemite so far.
Anvinder: You might find some inconsistencies.
AMANDA: So, is there no solution to this error?
AMANDA: Do I need to publish the entire project every single time I make a small change?
AMANDA: Has Captivate 8 shown this error in Yosemite?
Anvinder: In order to make the changes evident in the output  you need to publish the whole output.
Anvinder: Amanda, the best practice is to publish the whole project. We are in testing phase for the same. You can download the trial version of captivate 8 and work on it on yosemite.
If you have a suggestion for a better workflow for creating tutorial videos (ultimately published to YouTube) that need to include the following, please share!
    a voiceover
    heavily animated explanations of concepts
live screen capture of business processes in software
    Thanks!

  • Recording with audio playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into real time?

Ive recorded a test video with audio/music playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into "real" time?
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 50% I would make the video 100% faster.
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 100% I would make the video 200% faster.
So its obviously somewhere inbetween speeding up by 100-200%
Sorry but its melting my brain today and I cant remember the calculation.
    thanks

    hey all
Thanks for the advise on this. I will explain a little more what am have/am intending to do.
I have used Audacity to slow the song down (Effect>Change Tempo)
Audacity will allow me slow the original song down by up to 99% (Or anything in-between up to 3 decimal places)
Unfortunately I am working to a time restraint of 12 minutes per clip (as my DSLR will only allow up to a 12 minute clip).
The song at normal speed is 4 minutes long.
Originally I slowed the audio down by 50% (Making the audio 8 minutes long), lip synced to it using a rasta blaster and recorded the video using my DSLR at 720p 50fps.
I then imported the video and audio I had been lip syncing to into FCPX.
I sped up the video by x2 (equivalent to speeding it up 200%)
    Retime>Fast 2X
Layered the PROPER normal speed audio back over the top and all was fine.
    Test video complete.
(You can ignore the 65% slowed down audio I mentioned earlier if you like, that was just an example of a slower than 50% audio test)
Firstly what I really want to do is to be able to slow the AUDIO down as much as possible (But still within the restraints of only being able to adjust FCPX retiming within a whole 1 percentage in the final video edit), but have the AUDIO of the song as near to/under 12 minutes as possible.
I will then re-record the video again to this new slowed down audio.
Secondly I will speed up the video from 12 minutes to 4 minutes.
Thirdly I will layer the correct 100% Normal AUDIO on top.
The FINISHED video should then look like everyone is wizzing around at high speed but the guitar playing/lyrics look like they are being played/sung at the normal speed.
Whatever happens (due to the constraints of FCPX) I need the calculations to work so that FCPX is retimed exactly to a whole 1% for the final video to sync up correctly.
So what I need to know in a nut shell is:-
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage to slow a 4 minute song down to a 12 minute song?
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage of how much I need to then speed the 12 minute video up to turn it back into a 4 minute video?
    My mind is melting

That's exactly what you need. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US
This is the only way to view a video on the TV. After connecting your MacBook Air to the TV, image on your TV should show immediately. Then, press Command and F1 keys to mirror your MacBook Air display, and open the video

  • Final cut pro - editing music video audio falls out of sync

filmed with canon 7D- i play the music in the background for th artist to perform. upon loading up the footage into final cut, i sync the start of the video audio with the record, as they both play it falls out of sync. i did not have this problem when i edited with premiere. any ideas

Sync issues are *usually* going to be mismatched sample rates, for instance, you imported 44.1kHz audio into a 48kHz project.
This happened to me awhile back, and unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it. But what I *think* I did was click on the imported audio and went to the Retime menu and selected Conform Speed. If that doesn't work, right click on the audio in the event browser and select Transcode (if there's an option to do so in the dialog).
It is also possible to manually resync audio by Retiming it. Turn on snapping (N), select the clip, type Command-R and drag the audio clip's retiming handle until the end of the audio snaps with the end of the video clip (this is actually amazingly accurate.) [If your recorded audio is not the same length of the audio on the video, then set markers on the video and audio tracks and retime until the markers snap.] You should do this before any other edits.

    Thanks for your help.

What I can suggest is that you look into using image stabilization. I know that the vehicle bounces around, but if you have the front of the car in the shot, or a mountain range in the distance, the software should be able to stabilize your footage some.
Having said that, I should also point out that there are ways to move more smoothly with your camera. There are devices available to steady the camera, called Steadycam. Here is a link.
    B&H Photo Video
If you can't afford a Steadycam, just using a tripod can help. keep it folded up, put the camera on it, pick it up under the head, and it acts as a balancing weight to smooth out the movement.
Using such things will also help you keep the horizon straight (except when the car is turning).
One more thing. Carry a bottle of window cleaner and lots of clean rags.
