Needing new Camera; Help!

Time for a new camera and after reviewing over and over, I just get more confused on which one I should pick. I am just a Mom of a Toddler, no pro here. I don't understand all the technical terms these reviews are using such as ISO and stuff. I just know the qualities that I want are:
1) Fast picture taking (I have a toddler, hate getting the shot after the activity is done.)
2) Battery save (Sometimes I forget to shut the thing off)
3) Good low light picture taking ( I do take alot of evening pictures outside and in, some with flash, some without)
4) I like the lithium batteries (in the past, have had better luck with those)
5) Don't want to spend and arm and a leg
6) Has to have a date stamp option
7) Compact (doesn't have to be the size of a credit card or anything like that, though; just needs to be able to fit in the diaper bag/purse)
8) Can range in picture taking from up close to the far (need the range)
9) I like image stabilization and face detection, but not necesarry
10) Really need it to operate well on auto ( I have a toddler)
11) SD Card ( don't want to switch that up)
12) Anything else that would be helpful for me, the ametuer, to take nice quality pictures
If anyone can please help me, I would so much appreciate it. You would be saving me some headaches!! Thanks.

Need a budget number otherwise no one is going to know what to recommend.

  • Need New Camera for Vacation (Please Read)

    This summer I am going out West and going to Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. As you may know there is plenty of beautiful sceneries, and wildlife to enjoy in this part of the U.S. So I am wanting to take some of it back with me and show my family some of the great pictures I took. Last year I went and got to see many things that my old camera couldn't focus or zoom in good enough. So I have made the decision to go camera looking again. I'm looking for a camera that can zoom fairly well that doesn't get all fuzzy. I'm a pretty big guy and my hands are quite large, so I'm not looking for one of those little cameras that fit in the palm of your hand. I need something that where I push down the button and everything will remain steady, and I'm looking around in the price range of $200-$250 dollars. If anybody can help on giving some recommendations, I will be forever thankful.
    Thanks

    No, I actually don't know anybody that has a DSLR. I've decided that's not what I needed. I'm by far no professional photographer and for me to spend that much money for a used or older camera, when I only will use it once or twice a year would be ridiculous. I took some pretty good pictures last year when I went out west and even won a picture contest with the little Canon Powershot my aunt had given me when she bought her new camera. I was just thinking about possibly getting something new because 1) I have lost my old camera 2) I was wanting something with a little more zoom. I have been researching and CNET and alot of other reviews that I have read say that the Sony Cybershot DSC-H20B is really good camera for my price range. Anybody got any comments on the Sony Cybershot DSC-H20B?

  • Need new camera- please help

    I'm looking to buy a new camcorder. One of the main jobs I want to use it for is filming football games from the sidelines, so something that can capture fast-moving action and run for a long time would be great. I've heard that Hard Drive cameras won't work with the setup that I have, so I guess I'm mainly looking for a good Mini-DV camera.
    My specs are:
    Computer: 12" Powerbook G4
    OS: Mac OS X 10.4.11
    Editing software: iMovie HD6

    Looks good - just checked out the specifications here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=174&mo delid=18004#ModelTechSpecsAct
    Note that the DV Terminal described as IEEE1394 (4 pin) is what the rest of us calls Firewire, which is what you want!

  • In need of camera help

    Hello everyone. I just got a Rogers BlackBerry Curve 8310 used from friend. Other then having a crack in the screen ( which I intend to get fixed ) it had no problems and ran smoothly. A couple days ago I tried to open my camera and a message came up saying `` Could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the camera again``. I had used the camera for a couple days with no problems before this happened. I did a bit of research online to see if anyone else had had this problem and apparently its fairly common but none of the solutions I read worked. I tried the battery pull out, I tried wiping the phone. I deleted all of the apps I didn't need. All though I know how to delete apps and such I am not quite sure I am exiting the ones I have properly.The only solution I read that I have not yet tried is taking apart the phone and pushing the camera lense back into place because I would rather not mess with it if it is not necessary.  I suppose being new at this it could be any little thing I am doing wrong that caused this problem.
    Since I am new at this and I am just learning as I go, if I didn't give enough info about the problem or maybe wasn't clear feel free to ask for details if you think you know what to do because I need help very much.
    I apologize if this was a dumb question or if I posted this in the wrong spot.
    Thanks for reading my post

    You don't even need to take the device apart.  Just remove the battery cover and press downward on the camera lens.  This is the fix that most people have said has been successful when this problem occurs.

  • Still at 3.5.1 but need new camera...

    HS teacher here, and I am sticking with FCE 3.5.1 because many of my lessons were based around LiveType (install of FCE4 deletes most livefonts) and Soundtrack. I'm a bit intimidated by all the new HD camera formats and don't want to be stuck with something that won't work. What is the safest thing to do? Make sure it's tape-based? Can I consider hard-disk or flash memory? Are the Canons (HV20, 30, 40) the only way to go?

    I'm a teacher too, teaching middle school using FCE. I know it pretty well, but I ask for help when I need it. =) I'm having problems with the trash NOT warning before it empties and I've already been into Finder, and checked "show warning before emptying trash." It ignores that! That warning is very valuable to me, especially with kids.
    I'm posting here since I noticed another teacher, so I thought I'd keep it rolling. =)
    Also, I set the ~/.trash in Finder to lock out folders so kids can't trash other folders, most kids are good, but just in case...
    This does NOT work. It says "you have insufficient privileges...." I know, I know, I read threads on that too, what a mess, but that's a side note.
    Anyway, I want to be able to prevent the trash from emptying unless you enter a password. So even if kids trash something, they can't empty it. I've done it before, but I forgot what I did. And I want to get the trash back to WARNING me BEFORE it empties.
    Thank you for any help.

  • Need new user help

    i am trying to retrieve the length of multiple strings for a homework problem. we have to declare 5 string instance variables (string1string5). i am wondering what the code is to retrieve any one of the five lengths. the way my code is now i can only get one.
    public int returnlength() {
    int charCount1=string1.length();
    return charCount1;
    i know i am missing something very easy here. thanks for the beginner help. i have been looking at this for over 3 hours now. i tried using parameters but i keep messing up the code.

    Here's what sounds like a start, though it seems you already did something like this and shot it down as not complying with the requirements:
    public class Homework
      public int length(String s)
        return s.length();
      // create other methods for dealing with equals(), etc
      public static void main(String[] args)
        // declare 5 strings:
        String str1, str2, str3, str4, str5;
        // initialize them somehow - the snippet from your assignment does not specify how
        // get the length of each
        Homework hw = new Homework();
        int len = hw.length(str1);
        // what are you supposed to do with the result?
        len = hw.length(str2); // invoked again on a different string
        len = hw.length(str3); // etcetera
    }

  • HP DV7-3165dx Needs New Adapter - Help?

    My HP dv7-3165dx needs a new adaptor as the original one no longer works. Should I just buy this one in the HP store? The original was a 65W. I've been using a 90W one a family member lent me just so I can use my laptop. I just want to make sure it's fully compatible and the best choice. Never had to buy an adaptor before. Lately my laptop just seems to be getting...old and tired, I suppose!
    http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Accessories/AC-Adapters/H6Y85AA?HP-65W-AC-Ad...

    Hi,
    65W or 90W or 120W can be used. The main 2 things: the tip and voltage. Voltage can be minus/plus 5% but the tip MUST be fit perfectly. Many machines come with TWO units, the first one is for on the road (lighter and smaller).
    Regards.

  • Ram broken, need new Ram. help me

    I bought my Mac Pro 13inch ,manufactured in late 2011. I have been using my macbook pro for 8months and started to kernal panics.
    When I bought my mac pro , I upgraded Ram to 8GB at apple store. im clueless when it comes to computers. Why RAM is broken? How did it happened? Do I need to buy Ram from apple or third party? Is there any risks or difference? When i first upgraded it at the apple store in Singapore, I paid 8$ more with price of the Macbook Pro.
    About the Mac Pro im using : Mac OS Ver: 10.7.2
    HArd drive 500 Gb.
    Can u explain it to in simple english? thank you. what is RAM and its purpose?

    Not sure about Canada, but OWC (Macsales) and Crucial are the best places to go for Mac RAM.
    These from Macsales - http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?sort=pop&model=438&type=Memory
    Or these from Crucial - http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=MacBook%20Pro%202.4GHz%20Intel %20Core%20i5%20%2813-inch%20DDR3%29%20Late-2011&Cat=RAM
    Should be suitable.
    I'm intrigued as to how the tech said the RAM wasn't from Apple, though.
    Apple doesn't make RAM; it uses the same manufacturers as all the others do, albeit with rather tighter quality specifications.
    Hynix and Samsung are two frequently encountered (from the 3rd party retailers, too), but there are many others.

  • Need help. New camera for student

    I need a need camera for my 15 year old girl who is taking photography.  she needs a camera with a reflex system  or a digital camera with a "M" (whatever that is).  can anyone advice which would be the best camera and best price.
    I do not wish to buy something fancy, I need something affordable and to meet  requirements for class.
    thanks for the help

    It actaully depends on the budget. There are some point and shoot camera with manual controls like Canon G12, Nikon P500. If you want one with interchangable lens than can go with DSLR cameras. Few days back Canon has announced 2 new DSLRs Canon T3i and T3 you can have a look at the Canon T3i Preview. Also it is quite possible that Canon drops the prices for Canon T2i or Canon T1i since the new one has come, so if you can wait for few more weeks than might see some drop in prices.

    I bought this phone for the camera, if the camera didn't working well, what the point i bought this phone..
    Please one again Nokia, I NEED THE NEW REPLACEMENT..

    @Rafi808
    Have you installed any third party applications to account for the sound of the continuous auto focus (CAF) mechanism?
    You probably need to visit Nokia Care facility so that device can be reset to "factory settings" and completely re-install device software, before pointing towards hardware issue with camera module itself.

  • Need for new Camera?

    I currently have a Sony Digital Handycam (DCR-TRV140) that i like, and has worked well for what i've wanted (home movies, etc). However, the camera is 6 years old and i'm wondering how outdated the technology is and if i should get a new camera? We're expecting more video opportunities and wonder if we should upgrade our camera?
    any help or recommendations is appreciated.

    I vote for waiting (unless you have a pressing need).
    Sooner or later, HD will take hold. Right now you have HDV whose future may be in question because of AVCHD. Now AVCHD on paper is superior, but HDV has had time to mature and tends to be easier to work with right now than AVCHD. This will change probably sooner rather than later. And, as time goes, the price of flash media that AVCHD records to will continue to fall; or rather the price remains the same but capacity increases! And another reason for holding off for now is that AVCHD requires a LOT of horsepower to play around with.

  • I am running Photoshop CS5 on Win7. Don't want cloud version. New camera, so need update of camera raw. Clicked on update, but error in download.

    U need to update my Photoshop CS5 to get new camera raw capabilities. When I click on update in photoshop, I get error messages for some of the file downloads.

    I want to thank both of you for your help and thoughts. Yes I am a hobbyist, and photography is not one of my biggest hobbies. The possibility of an O/S upgrade breaking CS5 prompts me to think of another solution that has often been on my mind: Adobe could offer an alternative pricing model for the cloud service where I would pay per use rather than a flat monthly fee. "Per use" could be a coarse granularity such as "per day", in which case it would easily translate into dollars and cents, and to minimize credit card transaction costs it could be accumulated and charged once per month. It might also work like a prepaid phone service. Alternatively, "per use" could be finely granulated, e.g. as cpu milliseconds, maybe with micro-payments transacted many times per day using something like bitcoin. Being able to weigh cost vs benefit of what one is planning to do in the next few minutes is a wonderful way to achieve confidence in ones planned action and satisfaction in money well spent, which all encourages more business. Of course, there should be an option to lock the user interface from updating when new features are added, but that should be easy if the software is well structured to isolate the interface from the underlying capabilities.
    The forthcoming Photoshop that runs on Chrome/Chromebooks might be something that Adobe might "meter" out to potential clients but right now, it's beta, is Windows-only and one still needs a Creative Cloud sub to join. Can't be out of the realm of possibility though since there's no software to install; it runs right in Chrome. It'd be perfect for the "run and gun" types that need Photoshop quickly...provided one knows how to use Photoshop.

  • Photoshop won't open Raw images with my new Camera Canon 6D help! I use Photoshop CS5 extended version.

    Hello,
    I got a new camera and Photoshop and Lightroom won't open Raw images with my new Camera Canon 6D help! I use Photoshop CS5 extended version. and Lightroom 3

    Good news and bad news:
    The bad news is that you need CS6 or higher to open 6D RAWs. (The 6D didn't get support until Camera Raw 7.3; 7.0 premiered in CS6.) You can choose to upgrade (I'd recommend skipping CS6 and go straight for CC 2014 for $10/month) *OR*...
    ...the good news is that the DNG Converter can help you convert your RAWs into DNGs for use in CS5 and Lightroom 3.

  • PS CS5 64 bit, just bought a new Canon 70D I need a new camera raw

    OK, I'm really confused, I have PS CS5 64 bit, just bought a new Canon 70D I need a new camera raw for this camera, I thought 8.2 was available for CS5 apparently not. Help!

    Adobe only updates its current versions of products with new camera support. PS-CS6 and PS-CC were the current versions of Photoshop when the 70D came out so only those two versions of Photoshop will receive the new updated camera raw plug-in.
    You can always used the DNG Converter 8.2 (currently available in pre-release status at Adobe Labs) to convert newer camera raw files to work with obsolete versions of the camera raw plug-in, paying special attention to the DNGC compatibility options to may sure you have them set old enough for your CS5-vintage plug-in.
