NEF files don't open from LR5 to PS6
I have just installed LR5. When I try to open a NEF file with the "Edit in Photoshop" command nothing happens. When I click on a .PSD or a .JPG file in LR5 it will open it in PS6 just fine. It appears that LR 5 is not talking to PS6 with the NEF files. I have vesrion 8.1 of Adobe Camera Raw on LR5 and version 7.4 on PS6. For some reason when I installed DNG converter and ACR version 8.1 it did not come up in PS6. Does anyone have s suggestion for me.
I am useing a MAC with OSX 10.8.4
Thanks
You need to update ACR for PS CS6 to 8.1. The ACR inside LR is separate from PS's.

RAW files failing to load from LR5 to PS6
Hi, normally my Lightroom happily opens the files in Photoshop either straight or as smart objects but, for some reason now when I try all seems well and Photoshop automatically opens but the actual files fail to load. This is frustrating to the MAX as I am on a big edit at the moment. Any help gratefully received,
LR is version 5.3 and PS is version 13.0.6 x64 The files are from Sony A7 and A7R. My machine is a 27" Imac with rammed to the max. The same catalog loads fine on my 15" Retina MAcBookProJust a bump-

My nef files used to open in camera raw 8.6. Now when I drag and drop they go straight to photoshop cs6. I don't have the option to edit them in the camera raw editor! Help!
Which operating system are you using?
What is your screen resolution set at? -
I don't know what I am doing wrong, but my NEF files will not open in Bridge or ACR. If I click on the NEF icon that is shown in bridge it opens it in Photoshop but I cannot view the thumbnails in Bridge or use ACR with those files. Any suggestions?

If you used the installer, then you cannot possibly have the plug-in in the wrong place. Disregard the other poster's misdirection.
For the record, the correct path is as follows:
Command-Click on thumbnail to see full-size image in a new tab
What you need to do is Purge the Cache through the Tools menu in Bridge: Tools > Cache > Purge Cache for folder "xxxyyyzzz" for the offending folder(s).
DO NOT use the global Purge Cache command in Bridge Preferences; it's broken.
Command-Click on thumbnail to see full-size image in a new tab

RAW NEF files imported into Aperture from a Nikon D70 are dark
I imported one roll of images straight from the CF card from my Nikon D70 into Aperture.
I also imported them into Nikon PictureProject. (the current application I use)
All the NEF's in Aperture are darker than the NEF's in PictureProject. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Also, any NEF that I have previously edited and saved in Nikon Capture Editor, do not display any of the changes when imported into Aperture. Interesting that the Finder shows the thumbnail correctly. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Thanks, Scott K.I've imported a few of the NEF files I've gotten from my D2X, and for the most part, they look fine. A little darker than when displayed in Adobe Bridge and ACR, but not that much darker. This is probably just the way the image converter is interpreting the RAW data. A couple of minor levels adjustments for me, and they look fine.
As for Aperture not "seeing" the changes made to a RAW file in Nikon Capture. That may be due to the way Capture applies its changes to the file. If when you make a change, Capture simply adds the adjustments to a side car file, etc., and doesn't change the original RAW file (which it should never do), then Aperture is only reading the original RAW data. The side car info is not understood by Aperture. At least not now.
This is pretty much the same way ACR works.

Best file format to send from LR5 to PSE10
What is the best file format to send from LR5 to PSE10 - PSD, TIFF or JPEG? I want to be able to post the picture on Flickr after editing.
I always find PSD to be the most versatile for preserving layers but others choose the much larger tiff files. PSD produces a good master file from which any number of jpegs can be ex[ported in future.
You need to start the round trip from LR as follows and use the save command (Ctrl+S) not save as:
1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (I choose PSD)
2) Edit in Photoshop; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
3) Ctrl+W to close in Photoshop and update Lightroom thumbnail. -
.nef files no longer open in Photoshop CS3
Hi
I have Nikon D60 and recently started shooting in raw when I discovered that Photoshop allows you to then edit the files to a much greater extent before converting them to .jpg.
.nef files used to open automatically in Photoshop (in a separate window, seemingly a sort of add-on designed for raw files?). Now when I try, the software tells me that they are 'the wrong kind of document'.
What's changed / broken? Or have I suddenly forgotten a vital step....?
I've tried downloading a newer version of camera raw, to no avail...
Thanks for your helpThe D60 was first supported by Adobe Camera Raw version 4.4.
Make sure you update your ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) plug-in to the latest (and last) version of that plug-in compatible with CS3, which is version 4.6. -
I am running Windows 8. As of this morning, I can't get my files to open for external editing from LR5 to CS6. No extenal editing at all actually. Have checked forums and it's not addressed.
You need Lightroom 5.3 or newer in order to work with the NEF files. You can convert your files to DNG and use them with what you have now. Your choice. In order to have Lightroom 5.3 (might as well go to 5.7) you will have to purchase an upgrade.

Cannot open my NEF files in Photoshop CS6 from my new Nikon D800 camera.
That's it, I Cannot open my NEF files in Photoshop CS6 Camera Raw from my new Nikon D800 camera. What am I doing wrong or what is wrong? I have the plug-in Camera Raw 7. and can open TIFF files but not the NEF files.
Peace,
Charles FennenHi ssprengel,
to explain the scenario, i am basically a D7000 user and I do post production with Windows computer. But for an assignment I have hired D800, they have provided me their SD memory card. I have used the same memory card while shooting.
I have transferred the NEF files from the camera using Nikon software. The transfer was successful but i am not able to open the Raw NEF file with ACR. Even my plugins are updated till date.
The NEF thumbnails are having small lock logo in the bottom left corner. I do not know what does that mean. Like this.
Kindly let me know what would be the prob? if my RAW files are corrupted kindly let me know how will I recover them?
Thank you. -
Some Nikon D300 NEF files don't appear in Bridge CS3 (Mac)
Hi all,
I'm using a Nikon D300 and just upgraded to CS3 on my MAC in no small part because the D300 was not supported by CS2. I am running into a problem though.
I always shoot in both JPEG and RAW modes. When I open Bridge I always see each JPEG version of a shot.
However, only about 50% of the time can I see the NEF (RAW) version of the thumbnail. The rest of the time I only see a generic "RAW" thumbnail with no image. This sporadic NEF viewability carries over to the preview pane when I select such a NEF file.
Furthermore, Camera Raw cannot open the NEF files that are not visible in Bridge. When I try opening them I get a message saying "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this file type."
I have tried purging the Cache (through Tools) as some indicated in other forums threads but this has not helped. I have also downloaded the ACR 4.4 plugin and installed it in the correct library location.
Has anyone else experienced this (whether on a Nikon or other camera)? Any advice?
ThanksI've finally solved the problem with having only some of my NikonD300 NEF files viewable in Bridge/readable by Photoshop! Jon Michael Riley had said he was having similar problems so I wanted to make sure he and anyone else has the info on what worked for me.
The issue does not have anything to do with purging the thumbnail cache or installing the latest version of Camera RAW 4.4.1. While they were good suggestions (offered by Adobe's Technical support people also), they do not resolve this particular issue.
I read that an earlier version of what Jon described as "Nikon's clunky software" had corruption issues when images were first transfered from the camera via Nikon PictureProject Transfer. It looks like the latest incarnation has the same issues. Nikon products can see the transfered images without a problem. HOWEVER, Adobe Bridge/Photoshop cannot rectify the corruption issue caused by transferring photos using Nikon's utility.
So here's the solution: DO NOT use Nikon PictureProject Transfer! It is a piece of garbage! Instead, make ADOBE PHOTO DOWNLOADER the default tool to transfer images from the camera. To make it default do the following:
Open Bridge, pull down the Bridge CS3 Preferences. Select the "General" preferences set. On this screen you will see "Behavior". The first clickable box reads "When a camera is connected launch Adobe Photo Downloader". Select this box to render this the default transfer tool.
If you still have the pictures on your memory cards you can re-transfer them using Adobe Photo Downloader. All your NEF files should now be readable by Bridge/Photoshop. I've told Adobe Tech Support about this problem with Nikon's software. Hopefully they'll be able to check this as an option if others call in with similar problems.
Unfortunately I have not figured out how to repair the corruption in the files I transfered earlier using Nikon's piece of garbage software. Since I don't have the images on memory cards anymore I can't just re-transfer them. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do this? Will I ever be able to access my earlier NEF shots?
Cheers,
Greg
Thanks to everyone for trying to help resolve these issues. -
.nef files will not open in photoshop
From Lightroom 5.7.1, I can not open .nef files into photoshop. I get an error message: The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 could not be launched. Photoshop does launch and open but file does not.
Hi, I am currently experiencing the same issue as you, and its driving me crazy. I know how you feel.
All my images in LR are basically dead. I can see them, but I cant work on them. Its as though LR5 is dead on my PC.
I use NEF too, some of them have asked me to change the file extension to a DNG. I have yet to try it, coz for the past 2hr, I have failed to 'Back up' my da** LR catalog.
I wish that you solve your issue soon. -
Excel 2007 - Files will not open from outside of Excel 2007
Hello,
I'm a new user of Xcelsius 2008, in fact I just had it installed yesterday. The issue I've come across ever since the install, is when I attempt to open an Excel 2007 file from My Documents window (i.e Windows Explorer) a new instance of Excel will open, churn for a few seconds and then nothing...the file doesn't open nor is there a new workbook, all I see is a blank Excel screen.
I am however, able to click on Open within Excel, navigate to the appropriate location and open the file that way.
A couple notes: a) yesterday I also had Business Objects XI 3.1 installed yesterday, one of the options is "Enable Office Add-ins" I've tried to open files through Explorer with and without this enabled. b) When I try to open a file with Explorer, at the bottom of Excel I see: "Opening:EUROTOOL.XLAM" for a brief moment, and again, all I'm left with is a new instance of a blank Excel screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Chase K.Hi Chase
Welcome to the forum!
Well its the newbie gotcha! The behavior is caused by Live Office compatibility mode. Go to File - Preferences - Excel Behavior and turn it off, disable it, uncheck it! Exit Xcelsius and restart.
You'll probably never have to use internal LO mode since the recommended workflow if you're using LO is to do it outside of Xcelsius anyway.
I know its hard to read all the info when you get a new product. But the initial LO compatibility screen you clicked through does warn about this.
And don't forget to update to the latest FP2, it'll save you posting about issues that have already been fixed.

Files don't open or will only open 'Read Only'. Server reboot resolves issue for 1 day
Greetings!
We have a SharePoint 2010 Foundation server that I recently inherited. I'm a novice at SharePoint, but let me cut to the chase.
Users have recently (within the last week) started experiencing a problem where if they open a file, it will error either saying that the file cannot be opened, or it will only open in read only. This occurs with Excel, Word, Power Point docs. They CAN however,
open and edit these documents in the browser with web apps. After launching the full office application, if they click 'Edit Document', it will appear to switch to editable mode, but the title bar will still contain 'Read Only' and they can't save changes
directly back and are forced to do a 'Save As'. The only thing I have been able to do to remedy this is to quiesce the server and reboot it. After reboot, it will work until something magical happens overnight and it's broken again the next morning. I'm trying
to hunt down what this magical event is but could use some help.
Note that after I reboot the server, users can access and modify normally, no rebooting of workstations or closing of any applications (including the browser that's already on SharePoint) for it to start working, so I believe we can eliminate an endpoint
issue.

I'm sure I missed a lot of pertinent information but want to get something out there. Thanks in advance. There are warnings that repeat every ~1hour and one critical that occurs daily. Under each error, I added notes of what I've done to remedy.

NEF files - can't open in Bridge or PS CS3 but can see in camera
Not sure if I'm in the right forum...first time here.
I'm shooting the floods in Brisbane, Australia today and have been shooting with a Nikon D200 and with a Nikon D3.
I have transferred the NEF files from the D200 easily (as I normally do) to Bridge, but am suddenly having problems with transferring the NEF files shot on the D3. They appear as files in Bridge but if I try to open them in PS, the error message is "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
I was successfully shooting on the D3 and using the same card less than a week ago. The only difference is that I was transferring to a different desktop, not my laptop, which I have now. I've recently rebuilt my laptop after a major crash, so maybe there's some simple setting I need to change. But, it's odd that I can successfully transfer and open today's NEF files shot on the D200.
Any help/tips would be great!
Cheers
MarcGreat, thanks Ian. This worked a treat. I'd forgotten that I needed to download that again. Cheers. Thanks for your help. Marc.

I am running Photoshop CS6 on a 2013 iMac with OSX version 10.9.2.
1) As of today, Photoshop no longer recognizes NEF files. This has never happened before, and the files are coming from the same camera I've used for the past five years.
2) I receive the following message when I attempt to open a .jpg file "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)."
This is also the first time this has happened, and happens with EVERY .jpg file I attempt to open.
3) Both of these errors ONLY happen when I am opening files located on the work server. I hit COMMAND K to connect to serveral work servers -- my work space, shared collaboration folder, and an image archive that was recently moved. If I grab the file that I want and transfer it to my desktop, and open it with Photoshop from there, it works fine.
I have run all updates.
I'm not sure if this is a Mac issue (with regard to accessing the work servers) or a Photoshop issue.
Any help is appreciated.
ThanksPhotoshop does "play nice" over networks, but seems to catch more OS and server bugs than other applications (mostly because we've added more error detection code over the years after dealing with many OS and server problems).

Can I use an alias to trick an application about the location of a support folder?
OS X Server makes extensive use of alias files and folders, which evidently allows the storage of library folders and data on a drive other than the OS X drive. I would like to store the data for a similar program, Daylite Sever (also evidently using
