Nef thumbnail preview on Mountain Lion

Does anybody else have thumbnail preview problems with Nef Raw files on Mountain Lion? (Raw files taken from a Nikon D800)
Preview images seem to be really low res, it's really annoying as I use the coverflow to quickly preview files before working on them
I've recently done a system update & this hasn't cured the problem! Would really appreciate any advise if anybody knows a fix to this.
Cheers

Can you post the crash log?

  • Merging files in Preview for Mountain Lion

I would like to merge some jpgs into a single file using preview.  I am currently using Mountain Lion.  This was possible to do so on previous versions on Preview yet I can't seem to figure put how to do it here.  Is this stilll possible using Preview for Mountain Lion?  This was a very useful feature.
    Help.  Anyone?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Combine PDFs using Preview in Mountain Lion (other threads read)

I have reviewed several threads about combining PDFs in Mountain Lion.  I will ultimately learn Automator but for now, I have a relatively simple question:
    1) I open multiple PDFs in Preview, one window per PDF
    2) I drag thumbnail pages from documents 2 through n onto document 1 so that it makes one long document.  ie. one unbroken string of pages and not sections within a PDF
Question:  How do I save this combined document without deleting or affecting the first document?
Duplicate causes one of the uncombined documents to pop up with the filename highlighted.  I don't see how to give the combined document a new filename for saning
Rename gives me a file of the three combined documents but the first document disappears
Save overwrites the first document with the combined document
I must be missing something simple.  I recognize that the lack of "Save As" is a sensitive issue but ultimately, that's what I want to do:  Save the combined document with its own filename and have the individual documents intact.

    ncasey88 and Old Toad:
Thank you for your quick responses.  Unfortunately, with both methods, the first PDF gets updated.
e.g. Files are 1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf, each is one page long, and I open each in its own Preview window.  I drop thumbnails of 2.pdf and 3.pdf onto the thumbnail area of 1.pdf.  I export or print into a file called 123.pdf
Result:  1.pdf and 123.pdf have the same information (all three files).  2.pdf and 3.pdf are unchanged but 1.pdf is three pages long.

  • Can't open pics in Preview since Mountain Lion install

Hi - I use Preview to open my iPhoto pics and then save them at a smaller resolution for using on my web pages, blogs, emails etc. It's a bit cumbersome but it works. Now, since I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my MacBook (so it will sync documents with my iPad) blow me - I find I can't open files in Preview! I get a box headed 'icloud for Preview.' The text then says: 'You can move your existing documents to icloud by dragging them here from the finder or other apps.' There's then an option to cancel, and a greyed-out box saying Open, but of course I can't open anything! It means, really, that I have lost the ability to edit my pictures with Preview. Is this right? And is there anything I can do about it? Also, I notice my iPhoto icon has disappeared from my Finder so I can't open iPhoto from there. It's all happened since the Mountain Lion install. Can anyone help, please?

  • Preview in Mountain Lion Doesn't Like Spot Colors

I upgraded to Moutnain Lion and CS6 at the same time, and one thing I've noticed is that Mac's preview doesn't seem to dig on spot colors. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems to be the case with .ai and PDFs. Not a huge deal; when you open the files, the spot colors display properly, but when you view the files within a folder through Finder, click "space" to preview, or view the file as an attachment within Mail, anything with a spot color previews as solid black, which makes the file appear as if something is "off".
My biggest concern with this is if I'm sending a PDF to a client, and they only view it within their Mail app, will it view properly for them? Not knowing the answer, I've taken to converting all of my spot colors to CMYK before I save the proof file, and this way they display properly within Mac's various previews. Just wondering if everyone using Mountain Lion/CS6 are having this issue, or if mine is somehow an isolated case.

I'm having the same problem. When I open the Acrobat Files, the color looks fine. When I look at a PDF with spot colors in Preview Mode, in a Window Column View, or as an email attachment, I see SOME of the spot colors showing up as black, but not all of them. It seems to depend on the particular Spot Color.

  • Preview, Applescript & Mountain Lion

    Just a warning:
Because the “Preview” app has been un-AppleScript-able since forever, homegrown terminal commands are recommended to make it scriptable, such as:
“Quit Preview.app, then open a terminal and enter:
“sudo defaults write /Applications/Preview.app/Contents/Info NSAppleScriptEnabled -bool true
    “sudo chmod 644 /Applications/Preview.app/Contents/Info.plist
    “sudo codesign -f -s - /Applications/Preview.app”
This is a warning about this terminal solution -- it is terminal for Preview.
In previous OS versions I’ve been doing this for years, but these commands fry the Preview application in Mountain Lion. Preview no longer will run, in my experience — I did it twice (“fool me once…”). This is bad because even if you’ve backed up Preview, Mountain Lion will not let you replace the corrupt preview with good version, because a system app like Preview cannot be modified.

You are welcome. Good solution to fix the problem.

  • Preview using Mountain Lion Crashes

Issue:  Double click on a jpg and it opens in Preview just fine.  Go to File/Print and it immediately crashes.
Only started this after I updated to Mountain Lion.  Have checked Software Updates but no updates available.
Any suggestions?  The same file opens fine on a co-workers mac who is still on Lion and hasn't upgraded yet.

  • Ask for help:Preview in Mountain Lion without Annotation hyperlink function ??

is there no annotation hyperlink anymore in the Preview??
    horrible!
    I wanna it back......

    Hi Pancenter,
    Thanks for your reply.
And I understand you have to ask those questions, and no I have not installed any new software from any such sites, I have the most basic form of Logic Pro 9, with no plugins, extras, or anything.
I am using the Mac audio interface, at least I believe I am.  It is the Core audio driver, nothing more.
I do not have the install DVD, unfortunately, and I have recently wiped my Mac clean and reinstalled OS X 10.8.3 from a bootable flash drive.
I HAVE installed two 4GB RAM in the two slots, which seemed to be working fine before the upgrade to Mountain Lion, and I believe they have the specifications necessary to be run on my computer, however, I can always double check, just to make sure.
I have reinstalled 10.8.3 several times, to no avail, unfortunately.  It does seem, however, that the issues have come about only after installing Logic (i.e. audio issues), though, I do have many other issues, such as unexpected application crashes, that were present before the installation (after wiping my hard disk and resinstalling OS X).  There was a point where, I completely forgot what I did to achieve this, however, before I completely wiped my hard disk and reinstalled Mountain Lion, I performed some actions, whether it was deleting .plists, caches, booting in safe mode, that fixed ALL of my issues, including those relating to app crashes, and it wasn't until I decided to restart my computer one night, that, when the system booted up again, all of the issues returned, immediately.  As I said, however, I cannot remember what it was that I did.  I have already tried deleting .plists and caches, etc., still, to no avail.
I apologize if I am replying late, I'm currently a student so with all of my course work, it can be slightly challenging to check in regularly.
    Thank you for the reply.

  • Adobe Reader and Photoshop extensions default to preview in Mountain Lion.

My pdf files and all my images that I have designated to Adobe Reader and Photoshop in the "Get Info" window of these files... continually Default to Preview after a few days. This must stop... I never had this issue in Snow Leopard or Lion! Yes... I do hit the "Change All" button each time. Apple and Adobe seem to be at WAR over Preview, and we are payng the price!

For Adobe Reader, try deleting the application, downloading it and reinstalling. I just did this and the first time I opened it, I was asked if I wanted to make it the default.

  • How to underline with a different color than red (in Preview, with Mountain Lion)

    Hi,
I'm using Preview to study and I would like to figure out how to underline with a different color please...
Also, Is there a better app to read PDF document and highlight/annote/underline... to study...
    Thanks!

In Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can control the color of the underline and the highlight from the Annotations panel. You would bring this into view from the View > Comment > Annotations menu hierarchy. The underline tool by default, has a green underline. You can change the color (and opacity) by right-clicking the green underlined ‘T’  and choose “Tool Default Properties.”
This may have answered your second question if you find it easier to perform your markup with it.

  • Hand tool in preview (in mountain lion)?

I'm missing the hand tool in preview. Is it completely gone or is there any chance to get it back?

I use a Wacom tablet with Maverick, and not sure if this will help you all but you may find a similar fix.
I solved the hand tool / panning issue by going to the System Preferences. On my Wacom prefs, there is an area called "Application". There you must click the " + " button to add the Preview app. After the Preview icon is visible, select it, and then choose "pan/scroll" or similar modifier for one of your pen/mouse buttons.
My Wacom Tablet button for panning with this setting does not work unless I also hold down the "option" button. So it's new programed button + option.
    This is all so specific.

  • Is PREVIEW still part of Mountain Lion

I may be wrong, but it looks as if Apple has abandoned PREVIEW in Mountain Lion. If so, what replaces it? If  not, how do I acces it? I can get to the PREVIEW menu, but it's grayed-out. In other places, the screen says something like, "The Classic version is no longer available".

Old Toad, Barney, and Linc Davis,
Apple calls it an update; I call it a major overhaul. Judging by the changes that were reported, I had expected the "updates" to be completed in a minute or so, but the whole process must have taken 30 to 40 minutes. I just wonder why I wasn't advised about the update as soon as it became available.  Anyway, it's done now, so I'd like to thank each of you. Funny thing, though, when I check "About this Mac," it still only says, OS 10.8.5. You'd think that with all of the changes, that it would at least mention (COMBO).
Just thought I'd mention that I updated it by using the software update button in "About this Mac".

  • Will mountain lion and iOS 6 force me to use ICloud?

Reading the previews of mountain lion and ios 6, I get the impression that I'm going to be forced to use ICloud.  Is this true?  I don't want to be in the Cloud. And I don't want apps like Twitter mining information from or sharing information with, my Contacts.  Should I upgrade?  What happens if I don't?  I have a macbook running lion and an IPhone 4 running Ios 5.  Thanks.

I can just access Twitter through Safari to avoid that?  (Before you tell me that Twitter isn't that private, I'm on there with a pseudoname).
    Yes.
The integration of Twitter with Contacts is mostly about storing your contact Twitter and Facebook accounts much as you would store their phone numbers of email addresses.

  • Mountain Lion doesn't display Finder preview icons for .ARW files? (RAW pictures taken with SONY cameras)

This is something that I find rather ridiculous, and have a hard time believing no-one at Apple has addressed yet.
Basically the problem is that neither Mountain Lion nor Lion show Finder thumbnail preview images for pictures that are taken with SONY digital cameras.
This is something that Snow Leopard, as well as multiple earlier iterations of OS X used to do without any problem. The professional photographer community who uses SONY professional DSLR cameras is up in arms about this. And we've all been crossing our fingers that perhaps the Mac OS X 10.7.1, 10.7.2, 10.7.3, 10.7.4, or possibly the 10.8 update would fix this issue for us.
Several of us have filed bug reports over the past year or two. See this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3213982?tstart=0
This is a flaw in Apple's operating system. Especially considering that there are supposedly 200+ "new features" which were just released in Mountain Lion.
Those of us who work with SONY cameras every day would probably have paid the $19.99 upgrade price for just one "feature". And not even a new one. An old one. The ability to see our pictures in the Finder. Pretty basic stuff.
Hopefully someone fixes this for us with the release of Mac OS X 10.8.1
    Please. And thank you.

I can see image icons for all my pre-MtLion images.  These are the folder images (Icons), and all the photo images (icons) on all my hard drives.  IE If I have a folder of 300 wedding pictures, they all show the picture image above the file name in the icon view.  So if I want to open a picture of the "Flower Girl" I can see the image (icon) of the Flower Girl.  Without the image showing all I see is the filename...  Smith-212.tif.  Now with Mt. Lion I CAN'T see any IMAGES (ICONS) on any of the 300 photos.  Just the file names in all the different views.... Icon View, List VIew, etc.  If I have a Folder with 23 more folders inside, they don't even show up either.  I saw a step by step process of selecting the file and right clicking on it and opening it in Preview, then doing a copy and then pasting it on the original image in tghe get info window.  WHAT A PURE PAIN TO HAVE TO DO THIS TO 170,375 IMAGES.
The other issue I have is that 93.5 % of the remaining icons that do exist on my system is that those 93.5 % are so pixelated they appear as a hugh checkerboard viewed through two inch thick glasses..... not for drinking, but the kinda glasses used by a blind man.  IE the remaining icons are so PIXELATED it is almost impossible to tell what they  are.
BEN WELLAND...... What did you do to get this point?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to whomever at Apple finally fixed this.
After updating to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, SONY .ARW files (and I'm assuming Pentax .PEF files too) now render proper thumbnail icons in the Finder in list view, icon view, coverflow view, and columns view.
Since this is now a recognized bug, I'm guessing that the free update to Lion (10.7.5) that Apple also just released yesterday (September 19th, 2012) will probably fix this issue too.
    Hooray!
I have OS 10.8.2  and nothing has changed as far as being able to see photos / folders as image icons...
    rendered  proper thumbnail icons.
I have thousands of photo files that show nothing other that the file names.
The only way I can even see the file is to open it in Photoshop, or open the folder in Bridge. Even then after I open it in PS CS6, and save it again. It still is a "Empty" file...... no render proper thumbnail.

    Any help will be appreciated.

  • Alias Previews Gone since Mountain Lion upgrade

In my dock, I have a Shortcuts folder, where all my aliases are (mainly for commonly used Word, Excel, Numbers, Pages and PDF documents). In Lion, these aliases displayed thumbnail preview images of the actual documents. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, these previews have disapeared - all I get are standard, generic icons.
I get the feeling there's a checkbox I need to be ticking somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone got any ideas?

Here it is October of 2013, and I'm having a similar problem. I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.5, I just upgraded a month or so ago.
I don't know about aliases showing generic icons, but if I try to open a file via the alias from Excel for Mac 2011, I get the message, "Excel cannot open this file.  The file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."
I've tried with leaves " alias" at the end of the extension, I've tried after removing the " alias".
I've tried using aliases that were created prior to upgrading, and I've tried using newly created aliases.
This is true for Word documents, also.
It's also true when I try to upload to Google Drive. It can't recognize the file when I upload from an alias. This used to work just fine.
I'll keep searching for an answer, but I've been looking for awhile now and this is the first information I've found that comes close to my problem.
Thanks so much for any help!
    Brenda
eta: I forgot to mention that if I double click on the alias file within the Finder, it'll open up just fine in the appropriate app.
