Negative Image - I mac 17"

I am new to Mac, and lost. I have somehow changed the image on my screeen to be "negative" It looks like a negative of the real colors, as if looking at a negative film strip. The entire display is effected, Back round, desk top...the works. When I check the color display, the color tab dipicting white, is actuaslly labeled black.
If i look at "word" the p[age is black, the letters are white??
Can anyone explain. It's like I hit a toggle swithc inadvertantly??
Much appreciated.

  • Photos in InDesign PDFs appear as negative images

I work in CS3 (I'm on OS 10.4.11) and am having a problem when I export a layout with photos in it to a PDF file. The PDF looks fine on my computer and prints fine to my printer, but when I send it to others, the photos will sometimes (arrgh--not always!) appear on screen and print as negative images. The placed photos are usually TIF or JPG, but are sometimes Photoshop files.
Often I am sending these documents to users who will simply print them out on their own laser printers, so typically I export as "a high-quality print." However, I have had the same problem when I've exported as "press quality." The problem remains the same whether the user is printing to a PS printer or not.
Originally I thought it might be an issue with the Acrobat version on the recipient's end. However, I recently received a PDF from co-worker who has the exact same computer model, OS, and software versions as I do. When I opened her PDF, low and behold, I saw all the photos as negatives. (It did print fine, however.)
    Any idea what's going on?

To export, I select File > Export > Adobe PDF.
Adobe PDF preset: High quality print (usually) or press quality (occasionally)
    Standard: none
    Compatibility: Acrobat 5.0 (PDF 1.4)
Options: Optimize for fast Web view
    Create tagged PDF
    Export visible & printable layers.
Most of my recipients have Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0 for the PC; however, I had the same trouble opening an InDesign-created PDF from another Mac user with the same versions of everything as me, i.e. CS3, InDesign 5.0.2, and Acrobat Pro 8.1.2.

  • Black thumbnails and negative images after import

I'm experiencing a problem with iPhoto 6 and some images importing with black thumbnails and negative main images.
I've tried replacing the sRGB Profile.icc (it wasn't missing for me), but that didn't work.
    Any suggestions?
1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Are those negative images B/W photos? If so they may be Grayscale mode. Download the "Embed sRGB Profile" Automator application form Toad's Cellar and drop the original files for those photos onto it. If it's a grayscale mode file it will correct the situation. iPhoto 6 does not play well with Grayscale images.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Negative Image on Monitor

I have a Dual 1.8 G5 with a Mitsubishi Diamond PRO monitor. After having left my two year old for about 15 seconds, I came back in the room to find him "working on the puter", randomly puching keys. Just as I asked him to stop, the image on the minotor changed to a negative image, like a film negative. I repaired permissions, checked the color profile, even scrolled through all of the profiles, restarted. Nothing works. When I restart, the desktop appears normal for about a half a secone, then switches back to negative. Has anyone ever experienced this? What do I do to fix it? HELP!

Let me just start by saying you are the MAN!!! If you were in Columbus MS right now, I would buy you the biggest coldest beer available. I have e-mailed about 5 seasoned MAC users, all of which replied "Uh, I've never heard of that." It worked. Thanks a million, look me up if you ever get down this way! THANKS a MILLION!!

  • I accidentally made my hard drive an image of Mac OS X 10.6.3

I accidentally made my hard drive an image of Mac OS X 10.6.3, and I cant erase the hard drive anymore. Please tell me there is a way to be able to erase the image on the hard drive and put it back to the original settings?

    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You will have to restore your deleted files from a backup. If you don't have a backup, then they are lost.

  • One page displays as negative image when saving PDF to reduced size in Preview

    Imac Intel Mid 2007
    OS X 10.5.8
    Preview v4.2
I have a multi-page PDF I'm trying to save to a reduced size.
The document was constructed of separate pages, some of which were created as Photoshop PDFs in Photoshop CS4 and others were saved as PDF's from Word.  After moving over the individual PDF's to the side bar, the document saves fine in Preview at full size. When I use the quartz filter to "Save As"  "Reduced File Size" one page saves as a negative image and the others are all fine.
One suggestion I saw in a similar thread was that the mode in PS might be CMYK, however it is not and it is RGB.
Any help as to solving this would be greatly appreciated.

    n.gilbert wrote:
If I select all pages 'save as' will only save out one page and not all.
    JPEG is single-page.
If I print and choose 'pdf to jpeg'
    Elaborate, please.
Is there a way to save to pages out in one go to jpeg where I can adjust the dpi setting?
Yes. Build an Automator workflow using the PDFs > Render PDF Pages as Images action.
Once I have the reduced jpegs it's easy enough to reimport into preview and save as a pdf.
If the desired final output is multi-page PDF, no need to go through all that. You can do the task in Acrobat Pro (PDF Optimizer), or in Preview (Save as > PDF > Quartz Filter). If the current Reduce File Size filter doesn't provide satisfactory quality, use ColorSync Utility to duplicate it (or make a new filter from scratch) and adjust it to fit your needs.

  • Saving a PDF as a negative image...is that possible?

I'm trying to save a PDF from Illustrator as a negative image...like in the print menu in 'Output' you can change the image to Negative.
I need to do this so I can send it to an image setter.
I looked in the help menu and briefly online but I couldn't find anything, please let me know if you know how I can do this or if it isn't possible!
    Thanks!

    Well...
Usually we just send an Illustrator file to the image setter and when we print it, we select the image to be negative and that works out fine.
Now we're trying to send an 11"x17" file when the setting is for 8.5"x11". We couldn't find anywhere in the manuals or help menus for the software where to change the page size on the image setter. Then we were finally able to get it to work with sending a 11"x17" PDF, but now we need it to be a negative image..
    It's so frustrating!
    But thanks for your help!

  • Retouch Tool in Aperture 2 producing a negative image

Both the repair and clone tools, when applied to scans of B&W prints in TIFF format from a flatbed scanner, are turning my positive B&W image into a negative image. The transition occurs when the adjustment "takes." The only way to get my version back to positive is to CTRL-Z and undo the adjustment. No problem with scans of color images scanned in color but with the color removed via the Monochrome Mixer.
Can't find anyone in the archives with this problem. Any ideas?
I'm running Aperture 2 under Leopard with both fully updated.
    Terry

    Select the red eye tool.
It is usually good to zoom into 100% - use the Z key.
Adjust the radius slider to only the size of the red-eye you want to remove - maybe a little tiny bit bigger.
Click on the eye - it should leave a yellow circle bullseye thing over the eye that you can see or adjust when the red eye tool is selected.
    Repeat.

  • Negative images and blank thumbnails on import

I tried importing some old personal photos that I have on CD from a family tree album. Most of the photos are very old that were scanned. After import, many of them show up as black thumbnails. When I double click, the images show up as what appears to be a negative image. I tried importing them into photoshop and the photo is fine. Even the preview is fine when I click on the file name on the CD. I tried saving it to the desktop and then importing it again into iphoto. Still the same result. I did find a small thread on this discussions forum that said to change the ownership and permissions of the iphoto library folder.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1853597&#1853597
Unfortunately that did not do the trick...any help would be appreciated.

    Rob:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Those files are were scanned to a grayscale format with an RBG color profile added. You'll need to strip that color profile from those files so that iPhoto will render them correctly. One way to do that is to export them from iPhoto changing them to tiff in the process. Then import the tiff files. They will be rendered OK. That will increase the size somewhat. If you export them to the desktop as jpgs and then convert to tiff with Preview and 100% quality the increase in file size will be very slight. A 777KB file I tested went to 1.2MB in the process.
Photoshop Elements can do a Save As and not embed the color profile which will make it iPhoto compatible. GraphicConverter can do it by resetting the Color to grayscale (under the Pictures->Colors->Grayscale menu option) and then saving. Or you can batch change with GC.
    Do you Twango?

  • CC Image wipe starts with ghost/negative image from previous image

I have several images wiping onto a screen side by side, one after the other. However after the first image appears, the ghost of that image appears as I start each following wipe. This happens continually throughout all subsequent images.
Here's an image of the weirdness.
You can see that the third image on the right is displaying the ghost/negative image of the first image in the sequence. it apears initially then disappears and the wipe completes normally.
Maybe the church image is haunted... I don't know.
    Help anyone?

This is the effects panel of the church image.
This is the next image to wipe on, and is also the next layer up on the timeline.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Screen displaying negative image

My 3 year old was hitting buttons on my laptop, I walked over to remove him and my screen is a complete negative image of what is being displayed. I am sure it was just a combination of buttons hit but I have no idea how to revert it. Anyone??? Anyone???? Tried looking under system preferences but nothing... have no idea how to fix.

I did a little searching. for anyone else who encounters the problem hit Control, Option, Command, then 8. it will switch it back to normal.

  • CS4 Printing in an Action creates a negative image print

I have CS4 on a Windows platform, as a trial. I wanted to see if the printing issues that keep me from using CS3 in production were solved before I bought it.
Pretty much right out of the chute, I ran into problems. I use actions to get photos formatted to print. The action at the end, it calls Print (in CS2 was called Print with Preview). This Print step is done with modal control to allow different printers or settings to selected.
This action works fine in CS2 and in CS3. In CS4, the print comes out as a negative image. I have deleted the step from the action and re-recorded it in CS4, still comes out as an negative. Interestingly, if I use a CS2 Print command (not the new Print Preview version) in the action, then it works fine. The problem is extremely repeatable in different action or to different printers. If I disable the print step in the action and just print it without the action, it works fine.
This to me seems a very repeatable bug.. hopefully it gets on the list to fix.
    Allen

I waited late to switch to CS4 so the bugs would all be fixed.  Now that I have made the switch, I find I get wild negative images from actions that printed fine under CS2.  Is this in fact a bug and is there a posted work around from Adobe?  jc
