Negative scoring in Captivate

I have read the discussions on not being able to have a negative scoring on a Quiz in Captivate 5.5.  Does anyone know of a JavaScript or anything that will do this?

Have a look at Trihan's possible solution, described in this blog post:

  • Selective slide scoring in Captivate 7

    Hello there.
Let me present this as a scenario...
On Slide 1 I want the viewer to select A or B using buttons. If they select A they go to Slide 2 which has a question to answer. If they select B they go to Slide 3 that has a different question to answer. In both cases they then go to slide 4 and on through the presentation/quiz. They only ever answer the question on slide 2 OR slide 3, never both.
All that works fine and is easy. However, when the scores are totalled, the non-used slide counts as skipped, so the viewer can never score 100% and has always "missed" a slide.
How do I get the programme to ignore the slide that has not been required for the particular viewer?
    Thanks.
    Ivor.R.

So make slide 1 a pretest (yes, I just searched for "Branch aware" in the handbook PDF). I shall give that a go and report back, thanks (though in reality "slide 1" is in the middle of a quiz).
    Here goes...
    [UPDATE]
It will only let the pretest sit at the start of the quiz, unfortunately, so moving everything around is an option but not my preference at this point.
Thanks for the useful idea though.

  • Oracle Certification Scoring

I will be giving my OCA SQL Expert exam and would like to know about the scoring system of oracle in these exams like
    1. Are there any negatives i.e does marking an answer wrong deduct points?
    2. Are there different marks for different questions or do all questions carry equal weightage?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)I am always a little more strict in giving answers to those going for those giving exams for OCE and OCP certifications, as IMHO it is important for candidates to seek out infomation for themselves.
    - In an ideal world i tell people to goto the certification.oracle.com and seek support/FAQ and the section 'Taking the exam' where such questions are answered.
However the answer is not directly there.
So without trailing through a couple of other places where you might find an authorative reference i'll given my best opinion:
All questions care equal weightage (thought exceptionally there may be 1/2 unmarked trial questions in your exam ... but that would be invisable to you ... these carry no marks whether you get it right wrong).
And You either get the question totally 'right' (in the exams eyes) or you get no marks ... there is no negative scoring .... a guess does not give a worse outcome than unanswered or not fully answered)

  • Customised menu slide and customised quiz feedback slide

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone can help point me in the right direction as to how I can use Advanced Actions/Variables to produce two things, a menu slide that shows a tick when a section is complete, and a single quiz feedback slide that shows a summary of questions with correct/incorrect.
    Customised Menu Slide
I'm trying to build a menu so that a learner can go into any unit in any order. When they finish the slides in that unit, they are returned to the Menu slide and a tick appears against that unit. There is an example below to give you the idea.
    Quiz Feedback Slide
I'm also trying to build a quiz feedback slide to let learners know which questions they have gotten wrong in a quiz. I don't want to use the Quiz Review function as that shows me the questions and wrong answers. I would just like a summary slide, as in the example below.
For the course menu, I'm using some helpful posts from Lilybiri and trying to adjust her tutorial on customized course menu at http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/855/cpsid_85530.html to show the ticks instead of hiding the unit links. I'm not sure where to start with the quiz feedback slide.
I'm hoping that someone with a bit more experience of advanced actions/variables will be able to step in here and let me know if i'm going in the right direction with this.
    many thanks in advance,
    Loraine

Hey Lilybiri, sorry to revive this thread, but I would like to do this but with question pools? Can that be done? If yes, how...?
My issue with a little more detail: We are replacing the ageing, proprietary content creation solution of our LMS supplier with Captivate. The main purpose of our LMS is not providing learning-courses but testing our users with quizzes.
We are required (strictly governmentally regulated business) to train and quiz our employees on certain topics. So the main functionality used of Captivate, Version 6 btw, is the quizzing functionality. We went for Captivate because it's got the question pool ability which by the newest prescription we are required to deploy in our 2013 line of employee certification tests/quizzes.
After passing a quiz, the old solution gave a very nice overview of the answers given and the correctness of those (see screenshot attached). I'd like to replicate this to a certain degree with Captivate. Notice the screenshot by the way, the old solution got partial scoring which Captivate can also do, unfortunately not when using question pools. Anyway, not the issue here, the issue is the result slide. I have been asked to implement a result slide, similar to the old solution, where all the answers are listed and also a hint if the answer given was correct or wrong (as partially correct does not apply anymore, now that we are using question pools) because the user has then jump to that slide and review and discuss it with the teacher/test supervisor of that day.
We have a total of ~60 questions in 6 pools. 25 get picked, at least 3 out of every pool, smallest pool has 6 questions. So how can I track a) which question has been picked and displayed to the user b) as which slide number/at which position and c) which answer was given, in this highly shuffled, dynamically created environment? It's not like I can make a result slide with 60 lines and mark each line as either unseen, correct or wrong and maintain 60x3 variables during the quiz. Any ideas?
Of course, the user could just review the whole quiz and quickly skip all questions answered correctly and discuss the ones the user failed. But this somehow doesn't seem right and unprofessional, especially since the old solution could do that since years. At least a hint which questions the user got wrong would be the minimum expected...
    Thanks in advance.

  • RD scoring functionality in Captivate?

    Hi!
RD had an MS Visual Basic function that automatically
returned arrays containing scoring information. Code went like
    this:
    <script LANGUAGE="VBScript">
    <!--
    Sub robodemo_FSCommand(ByVal command, ByVal args)
    call robodemo_DoFSCommand(command, args)
    end sub
    -->
    </script>
My script guys used this to extract the scoring information
they put into their custom code that tracked scoring across
multiple, linked RD projects. (E.g., Read module 1, take the quiz.
Read module 2, take the quiz. Read module 3, take the quiz. Now
click "here." User sees the scores from all modules in a cool
    little grid.
And the scoring from all three gets emailed in a nice, neat
    format.)
Does Captivate have an equivalent function? Somebody please
    say yes.
(Don't mean to snivel, but it will go hard with me if I have
to tell my corporate masters that the shiny, new product can't do
what the older, somewhat-tarnished-with-age product did.)
As always, any and all help greatly appreciated!

  • Is crossword puzzle scoring possible in captivate??

How can I apply scoring in a crossword puzzle. Because I want to score every letter in a box with 1. The total score will depend on the number of correct letters/words in a puzzle. And how can I add it to the total score in the module if the crossword puzzle is one of the three quizzes in a module? Is it possible in captivate?? By the way, I'm using captivate 5.0.

I should need some reflection time, trying to find a way to reuse variables... It could help if I had an example to work on, should that be possible? You have certainly click boxes over all the letters? But normally you do not have 100 letters, or are you talking about something else than a regular crossword puzzle? Your description with diagonals possible seems to point to another kind or word puzzle. How did you realize 'The correct answers were also inside the boxes, which is vertical, horizontal and diagonal, upward and downward'?

  • Partial Scoring on Matching Quiz Slide in Captivate 8

    Hi,
I tried searching for the answer to this question before posting but I only located an answer for Captivate 5.5.  Is it possible to do partial scoring for a matching quiz slide in Captivate 8.  If not, does someone know a workaround?  It would also be helpful to me to know which questions slides allow partial scoring.  I am posting my trainings on an intranet site and not an LMS so I don't have the capability to do partial scoring from the LMS.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Only one type of question allows partial scoring: MCQ with multiple correct answers.
Workaround is to create a custom question slide. The score can be stored in a variable, you'll have to collect the variable. Have some blog posts about partial scoring in custom question slides, before it appeared for MCQ in Cp. Here is an example:
Widgets and Custom Questions - part 2 - Captivate blog
I once created a custom matching question slide for a client (who never paid), using the D&D interactive widget from InfoSemantics, but that is only for SWF output.  And it had partial scoring.

  • Captivate 4 scoring in Peoplesoft ELM

Hi all--hoping to get some help with our issue:  our Captivate courses are not scoring correctly when taken through our Peoplesoft ELM.  Our Articulate courses ARE scoring correctly.
The Captivate courses are scoring correctly on the ELM/Component piece, but not on the ELM/Activity piece--which is what shows up on all the training records and reports.
Here are the Quiz Preference settings we are using to publish our Captivate courses:
We have tried different combinations of these settings, but none seem to make a difference. Peoplesoft either records the score of the Activity as '80' or '100'...nothing else, no matter what the component/real quiz score is (80, 90 or 100).  The mastery score was set at 80, then we unchecked that, but still no change.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've found it!  Here's the answer:
Set the following in your Captivate -->Preferences:
Project-->Start and End-->Project end options = Close Project
    For SCORM 1.2 courses:
    Quiz-->Reporting-->Report Status = Complete/Incomplete
Quiz-->Reporting-->Report to LMS as = Percent
Quiz-->Reporting-->Choose Report Data = Quiz results and slide views
Quiz-->Reporting-->Reporting Level = Interactions and Score
Quiz-->Reporting-->Manifest:  make sure the SCO-->Mastery score is either unchecked or <= the Pass or Fail score/percent
These settings work wonderfully for our Peoplesoft ELM LMS!  We are now scoring correctly 100% of the time.
However, because you are reporting the 'Quiz results and slide views', you will need to make sure none of your slides are longer than the pause time (assuming you have an interaction pausing your slide).  This is because Captivate doesn't count a slide as being 'viewed' unless it's completely viewed for the length of time assigned (3.0 seconds, 5.0 seconds, etc.  For those times when you need a longer slide for some reason (multiple clicks on one slide, for example), factor those slides into your Slide View Completion percent (for example, change 100% to 95%). This also applies to branching...be sure to set your Slide View Completion percent low enough to allow completion based on the minimum number of slides learners will view, no matter what branch they take.

  • Captivate 4 quiz not scoring correctly on certificate widget

Hi, this is my first post, so I hope I get it right. I am fairly new to Captivate. I have created a quiz that is being scored at the end of a tutorial which includes an interactive training exercise.  The quiz has 5 questions and the student is able to retake the quiz indefinitely until he/she passes.  The problem is when they use the Retake Quiz option.  Although the score slide indicates that they have failed, the certificate is adding the scores of both failed quizzes. So, if someone takes the quiz and gets a 40%, retakes it and gets another 40%, the score report indicates a failing grade, but the certificate is adding it up to 80% and passing them.  Any help anyone can give would be appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Mary

This sounds like a bug in the certificate widget.
Do you have the slide set up to ONLY branch to the certificate AFTER the user has successfully passed the course, or does the user see the certificate each time they do the quiz?

  • Captivate 7 Partial Scoring:  Cannot set partial scores

    Sorry.  Probably missing something obvious.
I've a multiple choice quiz in Captivate 7.
What I'm after is on each question there's a correct answer, and the rest are wrong to various degrees.
So for correct answer: 10 points
for next best answer: 7 points
for next best answer: 3 points
    for worst answer: 0 points.
    To implement:
    set quiz type to Graded
on overall quiz properties I ticked "Partial Score"
then on each answer I expected to be able to enter a Points score under "Advanced Answer Option".
However I cannot save any change to the Points score for any answer other than the first one.  For all the others nomatter what I type as score gets changed to zero when I press Enter.
    What am I missing?
    TIA
    Steve
    Quiz Properties:
Answer Properties (with score that never changes):

I have two questions related to partial scoring.
    1) I have set up a multi-answer quiz with a question pool. I would like to turn off partial scoring for each of the MA questions. I don't see this option on Random Question slides.
The only way that I have found to make this adjustment is to move all of the questions in the pool into the Main Project, then turn off partial scoring, then move the questions back to the pool. Is there setting that I missed that can turn off partial scoring without having the move the questions around?
    2) I would like to change the value of the points for the random questions. When I adjust the value in the Quiz Properties window, it will change the Max Score but it will not affect the score for each slide. For example, I have a 5 question quiz. I adjust the point value on each random slide from 10 to 5. After performing the quiz, the quiz results window will show that my score is 50 and the maximum score is 25. Then, I discovered that if I move the questions from the pool into the Main Project, I am able to adjust the points to any value. Then I will move the questions back into the pool and the question values are set so that my score will be 25 after answering all of the questions correctly. As mentioned in item 1 above, is there a setting that I missed that will apply the score to the Random Question slide and the question slide in the question pool?
    I am using Captivate 7.

  • Scoring: Giving Negative Points for Incorrect Answers on a Quiz

We are using Captivate 5 and I was wondering if there is anyway you can remove points for incorrect answers?  Say if you have a multiple choice question with 5 options, 3 of the options would be correct and 2 incorrect.  Is it possible to give a -1 point if the incorrect choice is made and give 1 point each for the correct options?

Hello and welcome to the forum,
No, that is not possible yet, same for partial scoring.
I have a workaround, using variables and advanced actions to achieve that. You can find some examples on my blog (http://lilybiri.posterous.com). But the issue is to report to a LMS. Trihan has found a solution for that, using JavaScript but I have not yet tested it out, trying to find the tiem.

  • Adobe Captivate 5 - Problem with scoring with Quiz exported to PDF

    Hello,
I have created several review quizzes that have been exported to pdf and uploaded to the internet. They are elementary school quizzes that are listed on a canned school web hosting site that only allows uploads in common formates such as Microsoft Word and pdf.
I tested these pdf quizzes with no problems and from my  computers they still work fine; however some people are having problems with the scoring element. Some - not all questions are not tabulated correctly in the end review section. I have been told that the questions were answered correctly but the end review showed some questions as wrong or not answered. The quizzes are reveiw only and no reporting or LMS is used.
Has anyone else seen this? I had a feeling that perhaps the adobe reader was at fault, but so far everyone is using reader version 9.
One of the quizzes can be found here.. http://www.germantownschools.org/faculty/jwoger/4th_math_topic_1_quiz[1].pdf
    Tim

    Hi,
I have since my initial post been told that certain elements of the quiz slides are also not working. Correct answers have a sound clip that plays when the "correct" option is selected.  This is not working for some users. Like I said I have no problem with the pdf quiz from any  of the computers I use and don't know why it doesn't work for others.

  • Captivate 4 /SCORM 2004 Test not scoring correctly in LMS

    Hello,
I've created a course in Captivate 4 with 5 points.   I've uploaded it into my LMS using SCORM 2004.   It will not score correctly.   I have double checked all of the settings in my click boxes, buttons, etc. Even though I answer everything correctly it will not score me at 100% which is what I have the passing rate as.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Thank you for your reply.  I have tried changing the reporting options to score vs. percentage and that doesn't work either.  My LMS is Mzinga (Knowledge Planet).   Below are screen shots of my settings.
How do I get the "Mastery Score" section of the Manifest settings to be available (mine is grayed out)?  I read something about this on one of the disscussion forms but can't fibgure out what I'm missing to make it available.  Could this setting have something to do with my issue?

  • Captivate 6 Scoring/Reporting

    Hi,
I have a rather complicated module that essentially includes an additional 5 questions if the user is a manager.
I need the pass mark to be 80% of either the 10 question or the 15 question quiz. I have broken it down by the user passing if they accrue 120 points. For the smaller quiz it is 15 points for a correct answer and the longer 10 points for a correct answer meaning the total available is 150 and the passmark is 120.
In my previous version of captivate 4 I just passed the points but on cp6 it is saying you cannot pass more than 100. This is stumping me, ideally I would like to pass the % but obviously with multiple quiz questions that % is distorted.
Any ideas? Or have I confused everyone?
    Thanks

Can you check the Quiz Properties of these slide and check the number of points alotted to these questions. At the Bottom -- Check if it has been reported in Quiz or not?
Is this question a Pre test Question or a regular Question Slide?
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai

  • Is negative balance scored like a 0 balance?

Long story short, I paid a CC down to zero but it carred a balance the month prior so interest was charged before the statement cut. I panicked and quickly paid it but the small balance reported to the CRA's. I called CC and begged CSR for a mid cycle report because I needed to have a zero balance to maximize scores for mortgage app. She said she couldn't do that but would credit me the interest charged so now I have a negative balance that is going to report. Is that the same as having a zero balance report for score maximization? Or does the alogrithm only understand an actual zero?
