Negative to Positive Conversion

When scanning negative film, some scanner software (such as Hamrick's Vuescan) provide the ability to export this negative data in a "RAW" DNG compatible form. Unfortunately, LR does not provide the ability to convert negative color data to positive. It would therefore be nice if LR could provide color reversal functionality in its develop module. There would clearly be some color management issues with this, but it would be a good first step. In the meantime, Camera Calibration and Presets could be used by users to establish baselines for various scanner/film combinations.

There are 2 ways to accomplish this. Firstly get the look right in Adobe Camera RAW for the particular conversion you had in mind, save the file but don't open it. Then Import the RAW into Lightroom and you should be able to make the any adustments for similar files. This is on the basis that if you get it right for one the others won't be far away.
The other method is to edit the Preset in a text editor.
Both these methods are detailed in the document written on Inside Lightroom.
If you create any Presets that work for specific films, please submit them on Inside Lightroom and I'll post them for others to share.

  • Invoice or Billing documents negative or positive signs in Tables

    Hi,
    How can we recognise the amount signs are negative or positive(+/-) in VBRK and VBRP tables for all Invoices and Billing documents.
    Is there any indicator in any other table will expain the sign when it is storing in database tables.
    for example: when i create a debit memo, how the configuration settings will decide negative or positive?
    Where can i find this indicators....
    Is this the right place to post this question, if not please guide me....
    Thanks,

    The positive or negative signs will be applied based on the Order type Document category. The code is in standard SAP.
    Also For any custom condition types in pricing procedure, the positive or Negative signs will be applied based on the condition type defintion and also any routines assigned to the condition types.

  • BEx Analyzer - Aggregation of Negative and Positive Values

    Hello Gurus,
    I have a key figure 0Subtotal1. This KF contains both negative and positive figures.
    For eg; +10, -20, -30.
    In Query Analyzer, I need the column total as 60 and not
    -40.
    Can I use a formula and use the ABS function...
    Any clue....
    thanks in advance.

    hi BW,
    u can make -ve sign as positive in the query.
    Go to query properties in the query designer, then click on display tab->there u will find in the number format block settings for the display of -ve numbers....u can change them to positive there...
    reward if it helps,

  • How do I change colour negative to positive?

    How do I change colour negative to positive?

    Using the application Final Cut Express?
    Are you speaking of a film negative for a photograph?
    You can edit the image to the timeline, then go Effects Tab > Video Filters > Channel > Invert and apply the Invert effect to the clip on the timeline.
    Note that film negatives do not render color correctly when inverted. When they were printed, color correction "packs" were applied that were emulsion specific to balance the latent color skew present in the negative image.
    So you will also need to then add the effect Video Filters > Color Correction > Color Corrector and make further adjustments.

  • Convert color negatives to positives

    I am new to photoshop element 10.  I purchased for the purpose to process color negatives. ie convert negatives to positives.  I am copying the originals using my CamCorder to photograph the film.  I am not getting what I want using the "invert" process. I have taken the tutorial but it did not cover my subject. Some of my negatives are over 30 years old. Please help or direct me to where I can find my answers.
    Thank you
    George594

    Not being the professional here and thus not knowing what I "can't" do, but rather just going ahead and playing with Elements 10 on my Mac, can on occasion be somewhat gratifying.
    For anyone interested I will follow through on my above comment using the two sets of examples below, same procedure for both:
    Using a homemade sunlight box and my little Panasonic Lumix Camera (sharp pics from 2 about inches away) I snapped the pictures of the color negatives and then I brought the now digitalized color negatives into Elements 10.
    Next I...
    cropped the negative image to desired size.
    Hit COMMAND I     (This inverts the image with a strong cyan color cast)
    then go to:
    LAYER -> duplicate layer     (always a good habit to get into)
    ENHANCE  ->  Auto Color Correction    ...or...   ->  Adjust Color  -> Remove Color Cast     ...or....  Adjust Color For Skin Tones   (or just play with it.. have fun with it..  see what can be done and what can't be done for real.)
    and finally  ENHANCE  -> Adjust Lighting  ->  Brightness/Contrast  to your personal preference.
    Then either save for the web to put onto a CD or DVD or print it out.     It may not professionally perfect, nor work as good as a $700 scanner, but it certainly works well enough for me....  Good luck to all.   bill

  • Turning Negatives into Positives

    How do you turn negatives into positives? I have been unable to find out how to do this so would be grateful for some help.

    I’m using Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.
    I pressed F1 for the Help file.
    I entered “convert negative to positive” in the search box.
    The drop-down to the right of that entry shows that I’m using Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.
    The very first “Result” is for Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, not Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.
    It doesn’t do the job correctly.
    There are no “Results” for Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.
    How do I convert negative to positive in Adobe Photoshop Elements 9?

  • Cheap and good method: converting 2¼/4x5 black & white negatives to positives

    This has been covered here but, I wanted to describe my solution.
    I have some old large format negatives from 2¼ up to 4 x 5. I don't want to pay to have them scanned or buy a expensive Epson pro scanner or any other kind. (I already have a dedicated scanner for 35mm). I don't even want to spend money on a new copy stand. Although, I am on the look out for a used one.
    In a pinch, I needed to make a positive of just one 2¼ negative. For on screen use only.
    So I just placed the negative on my flourescent light box (used to look at slides) and took a picture of it with a 55 macro lens (the best for copy work) and a 24 MP DSLR. I used a high shutter speed, 500, to avoid shake. I also shot off a number of frames.
    Most the frames were useless because of a color cast, I think caused by the sensor and the flouresenct tubes. But one was fine. I imported it, turned it positive in Curves, used the built in Effects Black and White Blue Filter 100% conversion, cropped it (with 2¼ black frame around it) cleaned up the specks and scratches on it in Aperture (262 strokes in Retouch).
    I did full on Devignette and there is still a touch of it but, that's OK. That’s what 2¼ does with flash. Besides using the Curves to invert it, the only other thing that I had to adjust was Highlights and Shadows. Enhance and Exposure had little impact so I kept them off.
    Frankly, it is hard to tell the difference between this and the 4000 dpi scans from my expensive 35mm slide scanner!
    I'd do a link to the scan here but, it is for a project I can't release yet. But, it would blow your mind. FF 24MP DSLR, macro lens, lightbox, some time in Aperture and you can put some of your large format images up on Flickr or your portfolio for nothing.

    I'd say that, if you are worried about perspective distortion, go buy an Epson Perfection 700 and scan large format film that way.
    But I am not sure how I would detect perspective distortion. Macro lenses around 50-60 mm are designed to not have much or any of that.
    I don't worry about stuff like that… life is to short. Exessive obsession with perfection to extreme with gear is a miserable existance. (However, do good work though…)
    The iPad (any size) is a nice idea too! If you own one, cheaper than buyng a light box you might never use. I just happen to have one from film shooting days.
    If you have a Nook, Kindle, or larger Android, those might be big enough for 4x5 or 5x7 too!
    For those with only an iPhone, iPod, or other smart phone, used or new light boxes are probably pretty cheap now and even a small one can do 4 x 5 with room to spare. Art stores sell them too. My small one is made for tracing. My big light box was originally on the wall for X-Rays in a hospital. I bought it surplus.

  • Problem of negative sign in conversion of hexadecimal to decimal.

    class D {
    public static void main (String args[]) {
    int i= 0x80000000;
    int j=0x7FFFFFFF;
    System.out.print(i+" , "+j);
    The value of 'i' = 8*(16^7) =2^31 i.e. 2 raised to power 31.
    But it prints -2^31= -2147483648. My problem is that how we are getting a negative sign in 'i' ?
    while On printing 'j' we get a positive value.

    The max value for an int is 2,147,483,647. Since your number is larger than that, it wraps around to be a negative number.

  • How to change sign negative to positive in sap script form

    Hi Guru,
    I had wriiten a below piece of code in my sap script form.Now I need all the negative sign to be convert to positive number means
    if KOMVD-KWERT = 123,98.00-  ,    then require 123,98.00 ..
    And for this I know the synatax is
    &KOMVD-KWERT(S)& .Bur the probleam is how to manage this  (I13) ...Because if i am wriiting
    &KOMVD-KWERT(S)(I13)&    getting no value ...Please help..
    IF &TNAPR-KSCHL& = 'ZD06'.
    &KOMVD-KWERT(I13)&
    endif.
    Thanks
    susri

    Hi SUSRIKANT,
    You can try this logic .
    DATA  : LV_KWERT TYPE STRING,
                  LV_LEN TYPE I,
                 LV_F_KWERT TYPE STRING.
    LV_KWERT = KOMVD-KWERT.
    LV_LEN = STRLEN( LV_KWERT ).
    LV_LEN = LV_LEN - 1.
    IF LV_KWERT +LV_LEN(1) = '-'.
    LV_F_KWERT = LV_KWERT + 0 (LV_LEN).
    ELSE.
    LV_F_KWERT = LV_KWERT.
    ENDIF.
    I hope this logic will be helpful for your issue.

  • IPhone 5 negatives outweigh positives?

    I was seriously considering ordering a no-comittment iPhone 5 from AT&T, but the negatives that I have read about are making me seriously re-consider:
    -Dust under camera lens.
    -Scratches on the casing.
    -Purple haze in some photos.
    -Apple Maps
    -Swiping problems.
    I'm thinking of buying an unlocked iPhone 4S. What do you think?

    Of course you'll hear negative comments on here. People don't come here to post the positive things. Buy the iPhone 5 and if you have a problem take it to your local apple store for an exchange.

  • StackedBarChart stacked bar corrupted when add negative and positive value.

    When StackedBarChart series have (positive & negative) data stacked bar corrupted and loss data.
    I have a chart with data stacked on (-,+)Y-Axis.
    - With JfreeChart all this go rigth and data appear perfectly on each bar without loss.
    - But when using javafx StackedBar Chart , when bar series have (positive & negative) data stacked bar corrupted and loss data.
    Stackoverflow link : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15410153/javafx-stackedbar-chart-issue .

    As stated in your StackOverflow post, you should file this as a bug on Jira.
    But I'd also point out that stacked bar charts with negative values are not a good idea. In a stacked bar chart, the highest point of the stack should represent the total of the individual bars. You lose this property if there are negative values, and the chart becomes misleading. (I'd bet that the cause of the bug is that the code assumes this property at some point.)

  • Validation of JTextField to accept negative and positive values

    Hi,
    I have a question. I have a jTable populated with the fieldname
    in the first column and datatype in the second column.
    I would like to place a JTextField component in the frame
    depending on the data type. So, if a row is selected in the table, the
    datatype of that fieldname is retrieved and depending on that data type
    I want a JTextField to be displayed.
    Now, if the data type is of Integer type, I want the JTextfield to
    accepts Integers only(positive). I have created a class that extends JTextfield.
    But, I want the text field to accept negative integers also. Can anyone please guide me ?

    Hi,
    I wrote an extension of JTable that provides better rendering and editing support for:
    Color
    Font
    Locale
    Integer
    int
    Long
    long
    Short
    short
    Byte
    byte
    BigInteger
    Double
    double
    Float
    float
    BigDecimal
    and some more
    To allow only positive values for the type integer you could use:
    JXTable myTable = new JXTable(...);
    myTable.setDefaultEditor(Integer.class, new IntegerCellEditor(0, Integer.MAX_VALUE, <some locale>));The number editors are based on JFormattedTextField.

  • Changing a Member Name Value from Negative to Positive in EAS

    I am working on a dimension where there are expense values stored as negative values so, the net income calculations are not calcing accurately. How can I change the sign of the value without having to reload the values? Is there a setting in member properties? Please help. Thanks.

    Not sure if just changing the sign would really resolve you issue. If expenses are negative, the you should aggregate these using a (+) aggregation which in turn reduce expenses from revenue.
    If you were really keen on changing the sign, you could write a calc and fix on your expense accounts. Now assuming you have a dimension like scenario where you can fix on one pivotal member, you could do:
    Budget = Budget * -1;
    However, I would not suggest to go the calc route because you would get into same situation again upon data load. I would really look at my aggregation properties to make sure values are rolled up correctly

  • Can PSE 4.0 invert colors, particularly B&W negative to positive?

    Please help.
    JanS.

    Thank you very much.  I have a full tonal range 4x5 negative developed
    50 years ago and wanted prints and digitized images.  I took it to a
    commercial lab that is very proficient in digital work, but they
    produced images that were very contrasty and unusable.  I decided to
    photograph the negative with my D90.  The negative shows all the tonal
    range that I wanted and I assumed I could invert the black for white,
    but could not find how. Your advice worked so easily and so well.
    Thanks again.
