Negative unsent messages count

Hi,
I have multiple mail accounts defined, with my Yahoo account set as the default account. Earlier today I tried to send a message with a shaky WiFi connection and received an error message that the message could not be sent.
Not sure what kind of crazy bug kicked in as a result but the next thing I know, iPhone is uncontrollably sending messages from one of my personal IMAP accounts through my Yahoo account to various email addresses. Somehow this stopped after tens of emails were already sent out. The problem is that now the status bar says that I have 4294967214 unsent messages (yes, 4294967214 - it's not a typo), probably the result of a hex representation of a negative number.
When I look at my Outbox, I see a message count of -81 but no messages are displayed (probably because the number is negative) and therefore I cannot swipe-delete the Outbox's content. Does anyone know of a way other than individual swipe-delete to force the Outbox folder to delete all of its content?
Thanks
Dan

Sadly, that didn't work either. I had four email accounts defined. I removed all of them and then reset the phone. When I added an email account back in, the same problem persisted.
Next I sent 82 emails so that I reset the message counter to a positive number. I was then able to see one message in the Outbox which I swipe-deleted. The rest were hidden and could only be made visible if you search by "from address". Unfortunately, the search results table does not allow swipe-delete. So all messages were sent out and I'm back in square one.
I'd appreciate additional ideas on how to solve this issue.
Thanks,
Dan

  • In mail, how do I cancel the notification "1 unsent message"?

    Hello,
This might be a pretty basic question. I had an email account setup that would not send messages on my current network (at College). I went to the IT department and they asked me to delete that account and setup a new one using Microsoft Exchange. That is all fair and well: I can send and receive emails from that account without a problem.
However, in that old account (the one I deleted), I had a message saved in my Outbox. Now that that account has been deleted, I cannot find that saved message in order to delete it. Mail currently believes that there still exists an unsent message, when in reality there isn't. When my Mail application shows the inbox of both my School account and my Gmail account, there exists at the bottom of the screen a notification saying, "1 Unsent Message."
I would like help in either 1) locating the message so that I can delete it or 2) somehow refreshing Mail so that it does not count that message as "unsent." Thank you.

Well, I apologize for taking up space on this forum with such an inane question. I got the message to notification to disappear after restarting my iPod touch. I suppose that solution (restarting) will help to clear up many of the inane problems that may plague anyone's iPod touch.

  • 1 unsent message help!

ok, so I tried to send a message the other day and it wouldn't send properly, it said the outgoing mail server failed, so it put it in my outbox and a little thing on the bottom of my screen says 1 unsent message. So I tried sending it again and it wouldn't send, so ultimately I just deleted it and didn't worry about it. I've sent other messages since and they send just fine, the only problem is, that little thing keeps showing at the bottom after it checks for mail all the time "1 unsent message."
not a big problem, just annoying to have there, any ideas? I've already deleted the mail account completely (Gmail) and re-added it, also went onto my gmail account online and made sure nothing was saved as a draft or anything like that and it still didn't fix the problem.

I also had the same issue, doing the airplane mode suggestion just added one to the count. I had already done a reboot.
The account with the issue was an Exchange one, so under settings I just changed mail to off then when I went back to email where it was only showing my other account, it sent the the two unsent emails (from the account I just turned off...). Then I went and turned mail back on and it is all back to normal without the unsent messages.

ey How Do I Get Group Message On The IPhone 4s because some reason it doesn't want to show . First i did is setting then messages  it only show imessage and message count )HELP)

At the bottom of the page Settings > Messages you should have a section headed "SMS/MMS" Turn MMS messaging on then you can turn group message on.

  • In full screen mail, message count vanishes

I'm not sure if this is a Mavericks issue, or has always been an issue. When I use mail with the message viewer as a regular window, the count of messages in the mailbox I'm looking at shows in the window bar. But when I switch to full screen, the count vanishes. Am I missing something?

You're not missing something. When an app is made Full Screen, its title bar is removed. This is true for all apps; though most don't suffer from the loss of a feature the way Mail does.
If you want to see how many messages are in the currently-selected mailbox without leaving Full Screen, move your cursor to the top of the screen to reveal the Menu Bar, click on the "Window" menu and the very last item displayed in the dropdown will be the window title, which includes the message count in parenthesis. Alternatively, you can right-click (two-finger click if on a trackpad) on Mail's icon in the Dock, and it will show you the window name with the message count in parenthesis. Both options are less convenient than glancing at the menu bar, but at least you can remain in Full Screen.

  • Unread message count not updating in Mail.app

I am running a MBP 15" with 10.4.10 and Mail.app (version 2.1.1 build 752.3) and as you can see in this screengrab here:
the unread message count is not correctly updating.
This may actually be something for the Mail dev' team to handle, unless some one else out there in the groups has some inside knowledge about this issue.
For that matter, I do not know how to forward this to the Mail dev' team inside Apple, so if any one else does, please do.
    Cheers.

    Jason,
    What screengrab?
What type of account do you have -- POP, IMAP or .mac? How many accounts do you have? Do you access your account from more than one computer?
Unread message count where -- on the Mail Icon in the Dock or in individual mailboxes? In the Dock, the Unread message count will NOT reflect any messages moved to custom mailboxes by Rules, but only those in the Inboxes.

  • Inbox and Drafts show unread message count of all folders within. Can I get the local folders to do this too?

I'm filtering mail into folders in the local folder tree. There may be two or three levels, e.g., Local Folders -> Lists -> OS -> MacOSX. Mail that is unread in the MacOSX folder is counted and displayed when the MacOSX folder is visible. However, keeping the entire tree on display is a nuisance and it is long, so I don't see things ate the bottom. I have to scroll to reveal the rest of the items in the folder tree. For these reasons I'd prefer to have the folder tree in its minimal state.
Is it possible to have the the top level folders display an unread message count for all the enclosed folders?

when I collapse the folder tree of local folders, it shows the unread count for sub folders.

  • Problem with message count

    hello ,
I have problem with message count, in my inbox there are more than 0 messages but i got result of
    Folder inbox = store.getFolder("Inbox")
    int c =inbox.getMessageCount()
    of c is 0
    i.e i got c as zero rather than 5.

I am seeing the same thing and I agree with MathiasF's observation.  My count seems to increase when I do a search for mail on the server.  This has happened previously (iOS 5.x) but ending the Mail app always fixed it.  The only way I can correct the count now is if I turn off sync for Mail on the Exchange account and re-enable.  This clears my mail and causes my phone to go out and redownload.  Rebooting and resetting the iPhone has not helped.
    I'm on Sprint - 32GB White iPhone 4S running iOS 6.0 (10A403)

  • Message count on Queues

    Hello,
I am new to JMS, i am using WebLogic 8.1 SP5, any built in API is available to find message count on specific queue. That means if i pass queue name to weblogic method that should be return message count or any other way to find message count?
    Thanks in advance...
    Regards,
    -Soma

JMS does not specify anything to count the number of messages in a queue.
All you can do it to browse the queue with a QueueBrowser to know how many messages you have. But this can be very time (and memory) consuming if you have 1000 or more messages present in the JMS queue.
Anyway, I don't think it is of particular interest to figure out how many messages you have in a queue ...
All you are concerned with is what you need to do when messages arrive in the queue !

  • Verizon messaging shows incorrect message count

I have installed the Verizon messaging app on my iPhone 6+ (iOS 8.2). The app continually shows a base message count of 13 messages even after I delete all messages both in the app or through the web interface. How can I zero the message count on the app?

borg_cube, I know that can be frustrating and annoying at the same time. I can help get this resolved for you. Occasionally, the message waiting indicator may be out of sync with your mailbox. In that case, the indicator light or tone is ON but there are no messages waiting, or the indicator light or tone is OFF when there are new messages waiting.   To get the message indicator back in sync  1. Save or delete all new messages 2. Hang up. 3. If the message indicator does not go out or stop within a few minutes, there may be a problem, and you should contact Verizon. 4. If the message indicator does go out or stop, call your own number and leave a message 5. Hang up and wait 6. If the indicator light or tone does not come on within a few minutes, please let us know.  VanetrisC_VZW  Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport  If my response answered your question please click the "Correct Answer" button under my response. • Unread messages count is wont for Smart Mailbox

Has anyone else noticed that a smart mailbox has a non-zero unread message count but as soon as it is clicked on the count is reset to zero? Zero is correct because all of the messages have been read. I've tried rebuilding the inbox but it hasn't helped. I also recreated the smart mailbox but that didn't help either. Sounds like a bug to me but I wonder if others have experienced it. I am using Mail Tags so that is a possible complication.

Same problem here with Yahoo mail.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  I have looked at Yahoo mail from all folders in my phone (running 7.0.3 now), as well as in a browser, looked at Inbox (empty), all Trash, Sent, etc. folders and they're completely empty on Yahoo servers.
I thought that 7.0.3 had initially cleared up this issue but it has reappeared, and I don't know how to fix it.

  • Disabling certain mail accounts from "new message count" in Mail dock icon

    Hi,
I'd like to disable two of my mail accounts from affecting the new message count that appears over mail's dock icon. How might I do this?
    Thanks in advace

the only option you have is to choose between all mailboxes and inbox, in mail>preferences>general
other than that, you may want to look at plugins such as dockstar to do more customization of the notification features: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/dockstar/
    hope this helps

  • Message counter in a mail folder ?

    Hi there,
How do i know how many messages a mail folder contain ?
    TIA

The message count is located at the very top of the "Message Viewer" window. It displays the folder/mailbox name then the location (i.e., "On My Mac") and the number of messages in parentheses. However, the message count does not include the number of messages within any sub-folders the parent folder may contain.
If there is a way of showing the full count of messages which include those within sub-folders, I do not know of it.

  • Message counter won't work.

    Hello.
After updating my iOS to 7.1 I found that message counter ain't work anymore - when I get new message I don't see counter on message icon. That was on my iPhone 5, yesterday I bought new 5s, setup a 7.1 on it and restored phone from backup of 5 and I faced with same problem. What should I do to fix it?

Try a reset. To reset the iPhone, press and hold the home and sleep/wake buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the slide to power off prompt). If that doesn't work, perform a Restore via iTunes (from backup).

  • Cannot open any folders within thunderbird or send unsent messages after computer (ubuntu) closed suddenly whilst using programme

I use ubuntu. The computer ran out of battery power and closed whilst I was using thunderbird. On restarting thunderbird later, I found that I could not open any folders or send any unsent messages. When I close the programme, I cannot restart it because it says thunderbird is already open, but if I use killall -9 thunderbird I am told there are no thunderbird processes running. I've checked my profile and there is no lock file or parentlock file. Someone suggest deleting the global messages database, but this hasn't helped at all.
If I am slow responding to any questions, please be patient, tonight is my last night with a decentinternet connection - before returning to my rural African home, where we get download speeds of 15kb/s on a good day.

Do you run some sort of anti-virus software on the Ubuntu computer?
Do you have a backup of your profile folder? If not, now is a good time to create one.

There might be some sort of corruption in connection with your Inbox folder.
Try to rebuild the index file within Thunderbird:
Right click on Inbox in Thunderbird, select Properties, and then press the Rebuild Index button.
