Negligible audio from remote speakers - airport express

i've got a remote problem i just can't figure out.
i have been running my itunes through my home stereo system via my airport express. besides some inconsistent rebuffering problems, everything has run fine for about a month. about a week ago, i removed the ethernet cable to the airport for a while and then reinserted. my internet connection continues to work fine, but now i cannot play my itunes through my stereo receiver. if i turn my itunes volume onto full and my receiver to half volume, i can get some volume out of it, but negligible. at this volume, i should be blowing out the windows. i have tried re-starting my express, different audio input channels, new rca to mini-jack cable, a different stereo system, going through my airport admin and itunes preferences, running other equipment through the receiver (to ensure the receiver is working fine - it does) and nothing has resolved the issue.
if anyone can offer some advice, i'd appreciate it. this very well might drive me insane.

Hi King Paul,
Airtunes dropping out? What do you have " Streaming Buffer Size " set to? I have mine set at medium.
iTunes>preferences>advance>Streaming Buffer Size
or
there could be interference:

  • ITunes cannot connect to remote speakers / Airport Express

    Hi Guys
This is a quick post with a problem & solution.
I've been searching for ages tonight to find a solution to my problem:
'iTunes suddenly cannot connect to my Airport Express Speakers" and could not find one answer on here, only a mixture of replies all over the net.
So, just incase some people are still looking for an answer:
    What I did...
    1. Go to System Preferences, Network.
    2. Click Advanced, on the TCP/IP tab, set "Configure IPv6" to Off.
Open up Airport Utility, go to the Music tab, set a password (I did this just for the sake of seeing whether iTunes noticed that the Airport was now password protected, then atleast you know it's talking!)
    3. Open iTunes, go to preferences.
    4. Click on the devices tab, untick "Look for remote speakers connected with Airplay, Allow iTunes control from Remote Speakers, Forget All Remotes.
    5. Close iTunes
    6. Open iTunes, retick "Look for remote speakers connected with Airplay, Allow iTunes control from Remote Speakers, Forget All Remotes.
    7. Connect to remote speakers worked!

    thanks Simius,
I just tried what you said to do, i had it in Automatic, but when I momenterely switched to manual the fields were all blank so I left them that way and turned on to automatic as you said and left it in auto, then tried to change itunes speaker to remote airplay and it didn t work.
so i don t know what else to do, I read alot about this in the last few days the bug seems to be related to the newest itunes upgrade and with the presence of the IP6V not turned off completely.
in the old system one could turn it off completely, now the off button is gone.
there are work around using terminal, I tried that but it doens t recognize my commands, so it didn t work either.
    anybody has any idea?
    thansk a lot
    D.

You may want to take a look at this application (Airfoil).

  • Itunes missing remote speakers airport express

I have windows xp & itunes. When I updated to itunes 7.1 my remote speakers were missing and i am unable to retrieve them.

The problem turns out to be an incompatibility with Bonjour for Windows. A post by "f00fighter" over in the "iTunes for Windows Upgrade Issues" forum solved it. I quote him below:
    ******Quote***********
Looks like this issue is due to an incompatibility between Bonjour for Windows and iTunes 7.1.0.59 for Windows (thanks toonz!)
To workaround the issue you can stop the Bonjour Service by going to Start \ Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Services, then highlight the Bonjour Service and stop it. You might also want to set the Startup status of the Bonjour Service to Manual (or Disabled) to prevent the service from starting automatically the next time you restart you PC.
Note - this is only a temporary fix, and turns off the Bonjour service...so don't do this if you have other applications that rely on the Bonjour Service. A fix from Apple is needed to truly "fix" this issue.

  • How can i play audio from movies from atv2 to airport express?

  • Stream audio from Mac to airport without using iTunes?

    Hi,
I want to know if I can stream my audio output to an airport express that's connected to my speakers without necessarily using iTunes. As an example, when watching a movie on Netflix on my MacBook Pro. The movie playback is through Safari, not iTunes so is there a way to send that audio to the airport express?
Another question: Would the new Apple TV do that too (of course not with Mac Netflix playback since it has Netflix support within it) with, for example, Sirius Media player running on my MacBook Pro?

Wow! That was quick and so effective!! Thank you!
I had never heard of that application. So now my question would be, can I do this with the new Apple TV instead of airport express??

  • Can't stream music from iPhone to airport express when connected to internet

I have an issue with my airport express. When the unit is used solely for streaming music from my IPhone to connected stereo speakers without an Ethernet cable attached it works fine.  When I attach an Ethernet cable to the airport express and connect to the Internet on my iPhone, the airport express will no longer stream music from the iPhone. This is a recent problem, previously I was able to access the Internet on my iPhone from the airport express, whilst simultaneously streaming music from the iPhone back to the airport express.

Do you mean Lan cable? Can this be done wirelessly from itunes to airport express without the internet connections?  I can't connect to an airport express that's not connected to the internet.

How can I find my Mac Adress for the Ethernet Port from a Apple Airport Express Device ?

You can only locate, lock or erase your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.

Exactly my point: it's not a problem of not having the right printer, it's a matter of iOS not allowing it because Air Print is blocking it, probably because of a deal with HP.
But, I've solved the problem so now I can print from my iMac, my Mac Air, my iPhone and my iPad. No thanks to the folks at Apple who purposely blocked that functionality.
Can you print from your iPad directly to the printer without involving an intervening computer, yes or no.

  • I recently switched from LinkSys to Airport Express 802.11n.  I love it, but I can't get the Wii to talk to it so I can stream NetFlix.  I've found MANY discussions on this, but it's still not clear to me.  Anybody have a step by step so I can fix it?

Well, the Airport Express is also compatible with 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. If your Wii is unable to connect to the wireless network, I recommended changing the wireless security of your network.
Open Airport Utility, select your Airport Express and click Edit. Navigate to the Wireless tab and change your security from WPA2 Personal to WPA/WPA2 Personal. Then click Update on the bottom right.

  • 1 set of speakers, Airport Express & TV

I have a set of Bose computer speakers connected to my TV via the audio out jack on the TV. I would like to have the option of also playing music through these speakers via Airplay, by connecting them to an Airport Express unit. Is there a way to make this happen (using a splitter or Y connector or something) so that I can switch back and forth between the TV and iTunes as my audio source, without actually unplugging and replugging?
Many thanks in advance if anyone can steer me in the right direction.

From iTunes using Multiple Speakers (you can control with the Remote app on iPhone/iPad too), but not from AppleTV itself.

  • Looking for a simple audio reciever for my Airport Express!

Im looking for a very simple audio receiver.
I dont need a ton of bells and whistles. I just need a small receiver I can plug my Airport Express into, and then some speakers from it.
I dont need multi things like DVD, AUX, TAPE, CD, TV and all of that. I just need one... Dont need AM/FM... just a box to plug to airport express, to some speakers, on/off switch, audio up/down....
I am basically going to put airport expresses all over my house, then find this audio receiver I am describing, hook speakers to it and call it a day.
Does anyone have ideas for this? I have checked the major electronics stores and I am not able to find anything that is this small and subtle.
Any ideas would be great! THANK YOU

I have these for my office

Sound is very good and they look kewl but expensive.

  • Remote Speakers on Express

I am looking to upgrade some speakers connected to an Airport Express to stream music. I am looking at the Bose Companion 5 speakers which are designed to connect to a computer via USB or to connect an iPod or other device into their control knob using a 3.5mm stereo plug. I would rather connect to the base unit as it would probably have better fidelity and would allow me to hide all of the wires.
I know I cannot use the USB port on the Express to connect the speakers but could I use an adapter, like the Griffin iMic wich is designed to convert a USB connection to a mini phone plug (3.5mm) to go between the audio output on the Express and the USB input on the Bose unit?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

    I sincerely doubt it.
You're proposing that you take the Express's analog audio output and have the iMic translate it for your USB powered speakers. If I have that correct, I suggest you test it by running a cable with 3.5mm plugs at each end from any device with a low level audio output - an iPod for instance - to the iMic.
If that works, so will an Express. There's nothing unique about its audio output.
