Neither iTunes nor computer recognizes my shuffle (1st Gen)

It was working fine, then I plugged it in, and it said I had to restore it, so I did, but then it said it could not restore, so I ejected it, and tried plugging it back in and never recognized it.

  • While my iPod touch was connected to a speaker dock, I found it very hot. Not it will not turn on. I have tried the reset options and they do not work. Neither iTunes nor any of my computers recognizes it when I plug in the usb. Is there a way to fix?

Now it will not turn on. I have tried all the reset instructions with no luck. Neither iTunes nor any of my computers will recognize it when I plug it in. Is there any chance to get it working or am I out of luck? Please help if you can since I cannot afford to purchase a new one at this time. Thanks.

Your iPhone is in recoverty mode at the moment so to possibly get it back up and running you would need to do a restore as you have been trying. Follow the steps in the article below for the specific error messages you have been receiving. If after following all steps the issue remains book an appointment at a local Apple Retail Store to have the iPhone evaluated.

  • I am trying to play my ipod shuffle 1st gen in itunes but it will not play. My windows 7 computer recognizes the ipod and I can easily select the songs on my ipod playlist in itunes but cannot play them. Any solutions to the problem?

I get the feeling some has asked a question "like" this but not exactly that question which makes it really hard for find answers fast to the above question. Therefore, I decided to ask it anyway. Hopefully someone has a good solution that will work.
    Background on the question:
    - I had to erase and reupload song on my ipod 1st gen to my new computer. Apparently the ipod could not be read by the iTunes in my new computer because the playlist cannot be opened in more than one iTunes or in another computer or something like that (this makes no sense). All this was to try and charge my ipod that does not seem to want to charge. It connects perfectly to the computer and I can see the initial blinking yellow lights on the back and front, but won't charge. I am currently working on this problem from other community discussion topics.

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

  • ITunes no longer recognizes my shuffle

    Hi
I re-installed my itunes and erased the xml file and itunes lib file. now my shuffle doesnt snyc with itunes. is there a way for itunes to recognize the shuffle again WITHOUT having to reformat my shuffle? pls help!

Try doing a repair install of iTunes.
First, disconnect your iPod from your computer.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove programs. Find "iTunes" on that list, and select it.
Click on "Change", then click "Repair".
After you have done that repair-install, close any open Windows (including iTunes), and restart your computer.
After the computer has completely loaded up, now open iTunes, and connect your shuffle to the computer again.
    Any difference after trying that?

  • Itune doesn't recognize ipod shuffle

Itune doesn't recognize my ipod shuffle(first generation). please help me!

I've been searching for days on this kind of thing and always see the same frustration from fellow iTunes/iPod users -- the new version of iTunes won't recognize their iPod. Tonight I saw something that looked so simple that I had to try it, AND IT WORKED.
Press the MENU (not play/pause) and CENTER button and hold until iPod turns off and on again. Plug into your computer and hopefully iTunes will recognize it like it did for me, first time. I was completely blown away, because I had tried everything else for MONTHS!!!
    Good luck to everyone.

  • ITunes will not recognize my shuffle.

I recently got a used iPod (10G with scroll wheel) from my friend and connected it to my computer. iTunes recognized it the first time I plugged it in, but now it won't. Also, when I connected my 1G iPod Shuffle, which I have not had any problems with, it wouldn't recognize it either. The computer recognizes it, but iTunes does not. Any suggestions?

The problem is that cause the i pod is used it needs the driver that came with it make sure u have added hardware with the driver properly. Sometimes when switching between i pods the i tunes gets confused and needs constant updatiing > support>downloads>i pod updater this will make sure any i pods u have will be updated. If u have an old version of i tunes use version 6 it might help uninstall then install version 6 saving files of course. Make sure that the i tunes recognizes it by going to i pod options bottom right hand corner then i pod tab if it says its not connected go to device manager>my comptuer>right click>properties>hardware>device manager>under usb mass storage device>location it will have in brackets i pod that means the i pods defatly connected and it proves its defatly a software problem not hardware sorry cant help more u could always try a support agent get the serial number on the i pod its on the back 11 digits i think good luck

  • I bought an IPOD shuffle (1st gen.) at a pawn shop and it is still synced to previos owners itunes acct. and I can put songs on it b/c I don't have their log in info. So how do I clear it out so I can sync it with my itunes acct.?

OK..So I bought an older IPOD shuffle (1st generation) at a pawn shop. I never have had an itunes acct. So I set one up and plugged the IPOD into my laptop. Apparently the previous owners itunes acct. is still synced with it and I cant put any songs on it b/c I do not have their itunes acct. info (log-in). So my question is how do I clear their info( un-sync) out of this IPOD so I can then be able to put it on my acct. Its not letting me restore it to factory settings without their info either. HELP!

iPods (except for iPod touch) are not linked to any iTunes "account."  They are associated with your iTunes library. The account in iTunes is your Apple ID, and that is used to buy and download content from the iTunes Store.  It is not required to use an iPod.
The 1st (and 2nd) gen shuffle can only be used with one iTunes library at a time.  When you connect it, iTunes should prompt you to start using it with your iTunes library, and warn that the shuffle's existing content will be erased.  Have iTunes erase the shuffle, and it will be associated with your iTunes library going forward.  You can then add content to your shuffle.
The need for the previous owner's Apple ID and password should only come up if you are trying to transfer existing content from the shuffle to your iTunes library, AND the previous owner had content purchased from the iTunes Store.  Just cancel out of that step, if iTunes asks.

  • ITunes won't recognize 2nd shuffle, even AFTER fresh reinstall of app

Truly confusing problem that I am having...
If you missed my last two posts here is the situation:
I can not get my new 2nd ipod shuffle to be recognized by iTunes on my powerbook G4 1ghz 17inch EVEN THOUGH the finder shows the correct icon and format of the device. Through many trouble shooting attempts I have determined that the problem was iTunes itself. However, doing a complete wipe and reinstall of iTunes via software update does not fix the problem.
I am aware that the settings window for the shuffle is TOTALLY different than the one above which is for a normal ipod. There is no autofill option or soundcheck option, etc. Since I am running 10.4.9 and the latest version of iTunes...what is the problem that is preventing the software from recognizing the device for what it is and showing the appropriate settings window?
Why will iTunes fudge up an ipod shuffle and yet the OS X Finder is correct?
(The shuffle was reset and synced on a newer machine, I will not erase it and resync the shuffle to my machine because of the problem above. It actually makes the shuffle NOT play music even though I can verify that the data is on there via a 3rd party application called "PodWorks". This is a very strange situation. I have deleted every shred of iTunes or iPod related file from my machine and yet it still persists. Any suggestions?)
    thanks!

Yeah, I knew there were others out there like me because of the way my situation was handled by my local "mac genius" crew at the Apple store. After they too realized it was not the ipod and trashing iTunes didn't correct the problem, they immediately decided to just give me a new shuffle. I tried to insist that I stay and open the new shuffle right there to see if the problem was truly fixed and they started talking about all this jazz that essentially boiled down to them not really having any idea of how to proceed next...which was to get me to buy a new laptop. How insane to think I need to buy a new laptop for Apple's most basic iPod in their line! My $80 birthday gift was suddenly going to cost me $2799 to be able to use it? I don't think so.
Hate to seem so negative but I am really frustrated and reading the forums I am realizing that most of the "help" is just members pointing people to easily found information on Apple's site. I am hoping for someone who might at least attempt at an explanation, no matter how unlikely, towards why we are having this issue.

  • Mac and iTunes no longer recognizes ipod shuffle

All of a sudden, my iTunes doesn't see my iPod shuffle (2nd gen) anymore. It also doesnt appear on the desktop.
When I plug it in, the little orange light flashes, so it is charging. And the ipod itself still works.
I tried all the steps in this document, including updating iTunes and restarting my mac. I know the USB works because the iPod charges.
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipodshuffle/assistant/itunes/#section_4
    what can I do?

Update: I disconnected the mini for a while and just now tried re-connecting it. This time the ipod showed up in the menu after a minute or two. It still doesn't want to charge through the usb, but I can continue to use the wall port for that if I have to. Good news is I can now update my songs again =)

  • How to recreate list of media or Library in iTunes and link to Apple TV (1st gen)

    Here's the scenario:
I have the iTunes folder pointing to an external device (Time Capsule).  I have most, but not all of my media content on the Time Capsule, as my MacBook Pro only has a 122GB drive. (Yes, I have been warned that changing the iTunes folder has consequences, but I'm sure iTunes is still happy I'm buying content.)
I also have different content purchased on the Apple TV which is not on the Time Capsule, or on my MacBook Pro.
Upgraded iTunes to 10.4.1 & result -  list of media AKA 'Library' (TV shows & Movies) was reduced to nil.
(Thank you Apple - not what I expect, although iTunes is the most obscure piece of software I have ever used.)
I re-added all the Movie and TV content stored on the Time Capsule to the 'Library' in iTunes, called "MyLibrary".  I am unable to add the content on the Apple TV to that same library.
When on the Apple TV I can view all content stored on the Apple TV.  It currently is linked to an old library and it is greyed out on the Apple TV.  I am afraid to disconnect it in case the information in that library indicates that the content has been synced, in which case that content will be 'removed' from the Apple TV.
The 'Computer' link on the Apple TV points to a shared Library --- "MyLibrary".
If I add the shared library "My Library", I can view the content stored on the Time Capsule by accessing "Shared Movies"/"Shared TV Shows". That's good, however ...
I want to integrate the two libraries together and to copy the purchased content on the Apple TV (1st gen) to the Time Capsule.
(Just had a thought ... if I could arrange to download those purchases again, the problem would be solved.)
The reason I want to do that is I can not 'see' the content on the Apple TV through iTunes, nor do I have a duplicate copy of all that content on the Apple TV should the Apple TV storage fail. Also, I cannot connect to the Apple TV through iTunes except through the Shared Library "My Library", which now only contains content on the Time Capsule.
I know this is complex, but for those of you who understand the innerds, do you have any suggestions?
    Thx
    Moira

I'd strongly suggested posting this in the ATV forum if you haven't already.

  • Shuffle 1st gen works only in usb port, 2nd gen shuffle isn't noticed

I am aware these problems have not been solved anywhere on the internet but im praying someone has the answer to it.....maybe even someone from apple (but i dont think they care)
Lets start with my 1st gen shuffle
2 years ago it was accidently washed with my bottoms. Let it dry, charged it in the pc and everything seemed fine until i tried to listen to the songs that were still on it. The battery indicator showed no light even though while it was in the usb port, it showerd a solid green light (fully charged). Weeks later the new shuffle came out so i packed this 1 away and bought the 2nd gen.
Now my 2nd gen isn't working, so i thought i'd try again with the 1st gen. The same problem occurs even now. It charges fully but it seems dead outside of the usb port. I'm guessing the battery is dead but i await confirmation from someone with more knowledge than me.
Ok now the 2nd gen. I've had it for nearly 2 years and after a itunes update, the laptop or any other computer doesn't recognise it is connected. It still has a slight charge, the battery indicator is red (low batt) but still won't show up on windows or itunes. No lights flash when it is plugged in either.
With both shuffles i've tried EVERYTHING!! I've searched so many forums and tried everything. I even rinsed my 1st gen and let it dry off in rice (which made it completly dry over 24hrs, i'd recommend it if you ever drop your phone/ipod in water). I've heard too many people say they have the same problems with their 1st, 2nd and even 3rd ipod shuffles
I thought apple made the best mp3 players, but if the shuffles are just going to die all of a sudden with no hope of reviving them......then why else would apple keep making them and not allow people to return them? Its not our fault it happens.....1st gen was my fault.......but the 2nd gen looks BRAND NEW! I loved these shuffles but if they don't start working soon then i am not going to recommend them to anyone or even buy myself another 1. I'd rather have a cheap mp3 player that i wouldn't mind throwing away
All help is truly welcomed and thank you in advance

Is there anything that can be done?
    Sorry about my spelling people

  • PowerBook won't recognize iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen, PC will

Just before I throw yet another iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen 1GB down the toilet, I thought I'd check here for "Death Row"/"Life Support" suggestions. I've read similar questions with no, or unhelpful, answers, but here goes anyway:
After a whopping two weeks of use, my iPod stopped being recognized by my PowerBook. Not in iTunes, not in System Profiler, not in UNIX (etc etc). However, it is still being recognized by an old PC laptop I have that runs Windows 2000. So far I've tried the following:
    -- The 5 R's
-- rolling back to iTunes 6 on Mac
-- iPod Reset Utility on the PowerBook (Mac doesn't recognize it so that's a dead end)
-- Restoring the iPod on the PC via iTunes
-- iPod Reset Utility on the PC
-- formatting the iPod as a drive on the PC
-- running Yamipod on both Mac and PC (admittedly, that was desperate)
Nothing, absolutely nothing, got the Mac to recognize the iPod. At this point, I've already used my one phone call with Apple Support (owning an iPod is kinda like being in jail!) and, even though it's under warranty, since I'm in the middle of nowhere in Mexico, getting the iPod back to Apple will cost me, oh, about the cost of a new iPod Shuffle!

If anyone comes across this post because they have the same problem, and you're "tech-savvy" enough to figure out how to reset your iPod, forget it, do yourself a favor and stop looking in this forum.
Below are links to three recent posts, all people with the same problem, none of them got any help from any Apple moderators and got "helpful" answers like "try cleaning your USB port" and "did you sweat too much while using it?"
"Not recognized by OS X or Windows XP -- charges and plays fine, though"
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1572062&tstart=0
"Shuffle not recognized by itunes after a couple charges"
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1508538&tstart=15
"constantly blinking orange light; no longer recognized by computer"
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1444289&tstart=30
It's a common problem, Apple knows, Apple doesn't care, so, if you can, send it back or, better yet, throw it away and save yourself future headaches.

  • HT2292 Windows 7 Pro 64-bit does not recognize iPod Shuffle (4th Gen)

I have tried every trouble-shooting recommendation, suggestion, guess, etc. that I could find related to this issue and have had zero success getting either of my two computers to see a brand new iPod Shuffle (4th gen). I have gone through all of the steps in http://www.apple.com/support/ipodshuffle/assistant/itunes/ and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369 with no progress. I have tried 7 USB ports on two different computers (both running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit). The iPod Shuffle's little light stays a solid green when plugged into the port. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of iTunes. In Device Manager, I have uninstalled all USB devices. I have turned off all firewalls and virus protection. I have run Windows Update. I have verified that the Applie Mobile Device Driver is running. I have reset the iPod Shuffle.
When I plug the iPod Shuffle into the computer, no notification pops up, no new device shows up in the Device Manager or My Computer, and no device is displayed in iTunes under Devices. If I scan for new hardware, I get nothing. I even found a proprietary software that verifies communication between the computer and iPod - the result was that "no iPod is connected".
    Please help.

Have you tried a different cable that connects from your ipod to your PC? You could simply have a bad cable / dock.

  • Itunes won't recognize ipod nano 2nd gen

    hi everyone,
I have a mac powerpc g4 and am running osx 10.3.2 and itunes 6.0.4. as far as I know, that's the latest itunes that will work with this os. I can plug in my own ipod (an old 40 gb) and everything's great. the problem is when my fiance plugs in hers -- she wants to load some of my mp3s onto her ipod. it shows up as an ipod on the desktop, but itunes doesn't recognize it. I tried the 5 R's already -- I even restored her ipod nano 2nd gen and made sure it was in mac format and had the latest software, which it now does. but it makes no difference. her own itunes/mac recognizes her ipod just fine; the problem is when we plug it into my mac. I suspect I need some different, updated driver that will explain to my mac that the thing that's being plugged in needs to be treated like an ipod. any ideas where I can find such a driver that would work with my os, or, failing that, any ideas as to anything else that would fix the problem? any help is much appreciated.
    thanks,
    John

My IPod Nano will charge when connected to my computer but it won't come up on My Computer or iTunes. So I can't update the songs. I've already tried reseting the iPod. Does anybody know what I can do to fix it.
