I have been using Photoshop CS5 with no problems.  I just bought a Nikon D600 which is not supported by CS5.  I heard that Lightroom 4.2 will support it so I shelled out $199 for that product.  Now I see that if I import a raw file into LR, work on it and then try to send it to PS for more editing I can't do that.  I am told I have to spend another $199 to upgrade to CS6 because Adobe has no plans to have CS5 support my camera.  This is a rip-off.
Uh...no...you are wrong.
CS5 can open D600 files if you convert the D600 files using the free DNG Converter 7.3 RC which is available at labs.adobe.com (note DNG Converter 7.2, ACR 7.2 and LR 4.2 offer preliminary support). LR 4.3 and ACR 7.3 RC (both are release candidates hence the RC category) can deal with D600 raw files directly. If you process the D600 file in LR 4.3 RC, you can open that image in CS5 if you render the image in Lightroom 4.3 RC.
Yes, Adobe will no longer update CS5.x because Adobe started shipping CS6. It's Adobe's policy to cease support for versions of Photoshop that is no longer shipping–Adobe is now shipping CS6. It ain't a rip-off, it's the standard Adobe policy to support CURRENT customers, not former customers.
You really need to catch up bud...software and new cameras change all the time. Buying a new cameras generally means you'll need to update your software. Foolish you for not knowing that. All of this could be mitigated if Nikon and Canon (and the other main camera brands) adopted some sort of raw file format standards...sadly, they don't which allows people who fail to grasp the reality of the situation to blame Adobe.

  • Why does Camera Raw 6.7.1 w/ Photoshop CS5 not convert raw files from a Nikon D610 camera?

I just upgraded  my Nikon D90 camera to a D610.  I've been using Adobe Bridge to manage my photos made with the D90, and Camera Raw 6.3 to convert the raw files for use in Photoshop CS5.  The new D610 writes different raw files, so I upgraded Camera Raw to the latest version (6.7.1) which is said to be compatable with the latest Nikon cameras.
The D90 files still convert fine with Camera Raw 6.7.1, but the raw files from the D610 cannot be read.  Does anyone have any insight into why not?
    Thanks,
    JoelP

There will not be another update for Camera Raw 6.x which is the version that is compatible with Photoshop CS5. So you will not have a way to natively open your NEF files from the Nikon D610.  But you can download the DNG converter (version 8.3 RC) from Adobe Labs and use it to create digital negative copies of your NEF files. And then you can use those with the Camera Raw that you already have. Other alternatives would be to upgrade to Photoshop CC, or Photoshop Elements 12, or add Lightroom to your workflow. If you choose Lightroom you would have to use the 5.3 release candidate at this point to have support for your camera. It will, of course, be supported in the final version of Lightroom 5.3 as well as all subsequent versions of Lightroom.

  • I updated to Lightroom 4.4, and it doesn't recognize RAW files from a Nikon D300s.

I updated Lightroom this past week to V.4.4.  Now, I cannot import any photos because Lightroom does not recognize the RAW photos.  Prior to the update, it recognized the files and imported photos without any problem.  Now I'm dead in the water.  Any advise as to how to fix this?  Or revert back to a prior version of Lightroom?

Are you by any chance using Nikon Transfer to copy the files from your memory card to your computer?  If so, that could be the problem because there is a known issue with Nikon Transfer making some small change to each file.  If this isn't the problem, are you using LR to import directly from the camera or from the card via a card reader?  That could be the issue.  Try copying the files using Windows Explorer or Mac Finder to a folder on your hard drive and then see if LR can import from there.  That may help you narrow down the issue.  I have a D300s and have not had this problem with LR 4.4.

  • DNG doesn't recognize raw files from my Nikon D800

When I open DNG (v 7.1.0.354) and go to the folder my raw files are in the files are "grayed out." The files came from a Nikon D800. I want to use the files in Photoshop 5 (v 12.0 x64.) The camera raw plug-in currently inside Photoshop 5 is v 6.0.0.205.
    Advice ?

Your camera is on the list of supported cameras for the latest DNG converter. It is also on the list of supported cameras for Camera Raw 6.7, which was the last update for Photoshop CS5. I cannot confirm that support because I don't have a D800. Is the DNG converter that you have the release candidate or the beta version that was out at one time? You might check for the latest updates and see if that makes a difference. I would also recommend that you update to Camera Raw 6.7.

  • Elements 11 will not recognize raw files from  Nikon D610

Elements 11 will not recognize raw files from Nikon D610. I have downloaded ACR 8.2 and DNG converter to no avail! Any suggestions? It does recognize files from my D600.

Support for the D610 was added in the latest release candidate version of Camera Raw, 8.3 RC. You will need to install that version or wait until it is officially released. Your choice.

  • I have iphoto '08 version with an imac osx 10.5.8. It will not read my RAW files  from my Nikon D800 - a very new model. How can I get it to read my RAW files?

my somewhat old imac osx 10.5.8 with iphoto '08 will not read my RAW files from my new Nikon D800 camera - a new model on the market( 5 months or so). How can I get iphoto to read my RAW  files?

iPhoto 08 would not read RAW files from that new a camera. You need to upgrade so you can get more up-to-date version of OS X and iPhoto. Another possiblity is see if iPhoto 11 will run on 10.5.8, if so you should update. You can also attempt to run Software Update and see if it finds a newer release of iPhoto 08 that supports newer RAW formats.

The above list show the current camera models supported by Adobe Camera Raw (plugin for PS CC) and Lightroom 5.3.
You will see that the Df Raw support was provided in the latest version of LR 5.3.   Support for the D300s was introduced in LR 2.5. (the NEF files are different.)
Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw can only be updated after the camera manufacturer has produced the camera and made it publicly available. If you are using an earlier version of Lightroom then that is your problem.
Please post details of the version you are using at present.

  • Will Photoshop Elements 11 and Lightroom 4 support conversation of RAW files from a Nikon D800?

I'm currently using Photoshop Elements 9 and must convert RAW files from my Nikon D800 to .dng files before processing using a added converted.  I'm considering upgrading to either Elements 11 or Lightroom 4 but want to know if either of these programs will support the nikon D800 RAW files without having to go through this extra cumbersome step.   Additionally, if I do go with Lightroom 4, will the transition be easy or difficult and what problems might I encounter?

Yes the D800 is fully supported in both applications.
You would certainly benefit in processing your 36mp raw files using Lightroom if you have a 64bit PC or Mac with additional memory (RAM). The Lightroom develop module is where you do all the editing and you get the benefit of the full CS6 raw engine in an intuitive interface.
If you regularly use the Elements Organizer you should understand Lightroom quite easily.
Why not download the free trial of LR4 and test for 30 days.

  • Elements 11 will not process RAW files from my Nikon D7100

Elements 11 will not process RAW files from my Nikon D7100. Ca anyone help?

My version of ELEMENTS 11 contained an out of date Applications Manager and would not look for updates. After I discovered this (involving much trawling on different websites) I downloaded an up to date version which found Camera Raw v7.4. Happily, this works. Version 8 is not yet available.
    Anyway, thanks for your help.

  • Problem inporting raw files from my Nikon D3200

i have problems importing raw files from my Nikon D3200, i have tried some of the suggestions such as
removing the RawCamera.bundle and RawCameraSupport.bundle from the System Library and downloading a newer version (OS X Yosemite: Supported digital camera RAW formats - Apple Support)
The problem is  --  the latest RAW Compatibility Update version for Yosemite 6.02 appears to be the one I currently am using (in my System Folder).
In that same article referenced above, my Nikon D800 is listed in an earlier version simply titled "Supported by Yosemite 10.10".
This had some success but is not working after trying it several times, i am currently on version  OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 and the version of iphoto is 9.6
any help would be greatly received as i only shoot in Raw

Remove the RawCamera.bundle and RawCameraSupport.bundle again and update the system to 10.10.2 via the App Store.  That contains the bundles that will support that camera: OS X Yosemite: Supported digital camera RAW formats - Apple Support.  The 6.01 and 6.02 updates are not needed for that camera. Be sure to repair disk permissions after the update.
As usual be sure you have a backup of your hard drive before applying any such update.

Can I update Elements 9 to open RAW files from a Nikon D5200, or do I have to buy something?

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.4
