Neo 2 LGA 775 / E6550 Fried, Not my fault?

Put my new computer together. Turned it on for the first time, the lights on the mobo indicated a CPU failure, or defect...did not post. So i turned it off and turned it on a second time. This time it turne on, there was an orange light coming from the CPU and some smoke. So...the question is...since the CPU is supposed to be able to run at 1333mhz, i set the jumpers on the mb to that the first time...the time it turned on, indicated a failure. Turned it off set the jumpers back to the manufacturer's setting, thats when it fried. I have already sent my RMA in, and i feel like the jumper thing wouldn't cause the CPU to fry like it did, but i just wanted to ask you guys to make sure, to ease my mind. Everything else was right...the CPU was in right, power was attached right...everything. So frustrated =(

That is why you need to be more specific on the information about your mainboard. Until then all posts will base more or less on guessing. Nobody really has any idea what board you are talking about.
If you are not sure yourself, please have a look at your mainboard. The information we need to know can be found on the board itself between PCIe/PCI slots.

SATA settings, 865PE Neo-3 LGA 775

Okay, I'm trying to set up a friends computer and I can't get the darn thing to start working. Everything's powered correctly and all that. I seem to remember (when setting up a the same mobo a year or so ago) that I had to adjust some settings in the BIOS for it to recognize the SATA drive. I switched the settings to for it to look for SATA and PATA and all that, but for some reason it still won't recognize the SATA drive plugged in to the SATA1 port. Also, the CD/DVD combo drive in it just comes up as IDE drive when choosing the boot order and theres a 3 1/2" floppy drive selection but there isn't a floppy drive installed?
Any help on what settings I need to adjust from the default ones on this board to get it to recognize SATA. TIA.

Is this a new (SATA2) drive ? if so, you need to jumper it for SATA1 mode operation - 865PE does not support SATA2

The option should dissapear once you disable the Floppy drive controller in the integrated perhipials menu.

I know that some places it says that the voltage is 2.5, but could I push it a bit with 2.6 ? because I really dont want to buy a no-name brand for what I want. However, if not, thats the way it is...

Most boards have the DDR voltage set to 2.6V I believed. So if you put in a 2.5V rated DDR, it will still work. Undervoltage may not. You can always refer to MSI Test Report on DDR http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_trp_detail.php?UID=606
but those are not complete list.

Loud Fan noise when using Pentium 4 LGA 775 with 865PE Neo3-F

Hi,
I have just bought a new Pentium 4 LGA 775 - 2.8A GHz with MSI 865PE Neo3-F motherboard and realized that the fan is simply very very noisy.
When I boot it up, it started with around 2500 RPM and 30C, but soon after I logged into Windows, the fan starts to speed up to 4900 RPM with the CPU temperature at 60C.
I asked my friend who uses the same combination of processor and motherboard, he said his fan only rotates at 3000 RPM, with CPU temperature at 55C, and it is NOT noisy at all.
I have tried CoreCenter and SpeedFan, but none of them can slow down the fan.
Any idea how I can maybe slow down the CPU when I don't need so much power, or slow down the fan?
Is there something wrong with my installation of the CPU Fan maybe?

its bound to be noisey thrashing round at that speed.
You may want to think about optimizing the CPU coolng with some ducting directly onto the top of the CPU fan.
I presume the heatsink is seated onto the CPU with some thermal compound.

Actually they don't have much of a say since, unlike Intel, they don't make boards. If the board manufactures switch over to BTX then they will want to phase out of ATX boards for all platforms for reasons of economy. Similary, the case manufacturers won't want to make two series of cases for each type, and the retailers won't want to stock both.

My PC is about 1.5 years old.
Now last 3 weeks I'm having some frustrating problem when starting my PC.
Issue: my computer starts now only when there is 2 Gb total memory on motherboard.
If there´s 3 Gb or 4 Gb memory on motherboard, then I won´t even get a Bios startup screen.
(but i can see and heard that PSU and CPU fans are working)
I tried all memory modules on, separately using only one memory module. All memory modules and every slot seems to be ok.
I also try Memtest86 (with one memory module Separately) no errors found.
Motherboard PCI-E slots and graphics card are also ok.
(because my PC works like a charm when there´s only total 2 Gb memory on motherboard)

I know the 7600GS doesn't recommend a PSU with a lot of power(15 - 17 A), but you're running two of them in SLI. Your PSU only has 18A on the +12V rail. This could very well be your issue. Below are some good single +12V rail PSUs, Corsairs and PC Power & Cooling. You can also look for Silverstone single rail PSUs, but they tend to be pricier. If you can't get anything other than split-rail, post back and we'll try to make some recommendations.

I have to pay for something that was not my fault, nor Verizon's fault, but is an act of God/nature. Why is that?

I had a hard time keeping my phone charged at one time, so I called/visited my local retailer of Verizon, and they ordered me a new battery (first step after cleaning my phone. Not like it was dirty anyways). Got a new battery, put it in, still same problem. Would not charge...boo! So, I bring it back, and they order me a replacement phone, since it "is still under warranty, and insured". When I first brought my phone in, the young lady said, "That is why it is not charging; it was the charger port, that is why it was not charging. It is as loose as a goose" So, that is why she ordered me a new one.
So, get the new phone, put "new battery" back in. All is good, all of what, 2 maybe 3 weeks later. Now it is doing the same thing again. Checked the charging port, it is fine. Bring it in, to the store, and questioned the young man behind the desk, and find out why I was charged the $299.95(+taxes & s/h). He said, "it was because the old phone was because there was "corrosion" around the port." Of course, there was not a single note of it being loose. He continued, and said it was because it was there had to be a time where you spilled something on it, even if it was a drop of any kind of liquid. Or, you/ or someone else, had it in the shower with them." (Really, a drop of liquid, or taking the phone with me in the shower?) How I could I get a "drop" of liquid in it, if I had an Otter-box on it, or why would I take it in the shower with me? I admit, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but, really? Come on now!
Since, I have to now pay for it, I am kind ‘a wondering if anyone else has, or had the same problem with their phone (s). My wife has the same phone and she has not had this same problem. Makes me wonder. Since, my phone is doing this again, if it is something that I am doing wrong with it or not. So, now they have ordered me a new battery, and we will see if this will be a new fix, or "good bye to Verizon." Any comments, or suggestions, please email wife and me, and let me know. How recently did you switch? If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account. The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices. I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...

No, you cannot get your money back.
If you have tried the basics restart, reset, restore, then make an appointment at the genius bar. If the iphone is defective then they will replace it.

If Safari is getting very slow:

Try starting your computer holding down the option key as soon as you hear the startup sound, and continue holding it. Hopefully, you will see the icon for your startup disk come up on your screen within a minute. Click on that icon and press return. If your machine starts up normally from there, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and reselect your startup volume

X48 platinum LGA 775 mboard will only post in safe mode

I recently had a problem with my power supply (helped out by members of this forum) and have since changed it. Then the stock cpu cooler seemed to be playing up as the system would only post every tenth (or so) attempt. I therefore went out and purchased a corsair cpu water cooler and the system is now a nice 23-26 degrees so that's ok. I also purchased a new Western digital black caviar hdd and windows 7.
I have loaded windows 7 but the system will now only post in safe mode or safe mode with networking. When I restart it goes so far then seems to stall and the screen goes black after the initial 4coloured windows logo. I can still see and move the mouse cursor but nothing else.
Any ideas anyone. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I have not added any drivers before the issue and had not even tried to go on the internet. I will try and install windows again but one thing I have noticed is that when I loaded windows it was at my work area of the office where there is minimal amounts of stuff loaded just to test the pc. Once loaded I then moved it to my desk and added all the other usb leads for various other items such as printers ready to install them. Do you think it could again be a power issue and the fact that the new supply is not up to the job?
