Neo 2 Platinum Memory Problem

Hi There,
i have here two PQI DDR400 PC3200 512MB dual-sided, one crusial DDR400 PC3200 512MB one-sided and one crusial DDR400 PC3200 1024MB dual-sided.
Here's the problem:
When i install all the four modules my computer wont bootup it will only give one long beep inducating that there is a memory problem. All four modules where tested separetly with no problems. I have now only the two crusial modules on my Neo 2 Platinum running with no problems.
Can some one help me so i can use all four modules please???????

Assuming they will all work together, it sounds like the BIOS isn't set up properly, or the board isn't detecting the speed correctly. When installing more than 2 dimms, most boards, due to the memory controller on the CPU, will set the RAM to the 166 divider, or DDR333. Generally it will also set them to the 2T command rate.
If you have a Winchester core you will more than likely need to run DDR333 with the 2T setting. On a Venice you may be able to get away with DDR400...I know on an Opteron you can do DDR400 with the 2T command rate easy enough...I will assume it is probably the same with the newer cores as well.
Again, IF they all work together (mixing and matching dimms may not always work), you may just need to set the BIOS up properly. Pop in the sticks that work, go into the BIOS and set the RAM to the 166 divider, and then make sure the command rate is on 2T. Be sure all the RAM can run the timings that are set in the BIOS. Save and exit. Then power down and unplug the PC, pop in the other stick and see what happens.
If that doesn't work, you can try different slots, or an even a lower RAM divider (probably won't make a difference). IMO, if all the settings are correct and it still won't work, I would guess that mixing the RAM is the problem. I have seen it happen - I have also had weird RAM configs work perfectly, so it is kind of hit or miss...I hope some of that helps, good luck.

Ok to start off I'm trying to run 4 512's corsair xms 3200 on the mother board MS-7025 but problem is if I try and run at 2 gig my PC will not boot up the monitor light stays on amber or in a sleep mode.
But if I run just 1 gig it boots up fine the ram is fine and tested also tried swapping the ram into diffrent slots and it works just not with 2 gig.
I have used the manual and unplugged the ATX power cable and jp1 power before i put the ram in but still no luck
could it be a bios problem or hardware I'm not sure any help would be greatly appreciated

I have tried setting the memory voltage at 2.7 and still no luck thanks for ur time
it is not good solution to use 4 sticks at all. read here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=103090.0
is all mem. sticks are identical? can they works separately by 2 sets (2 mem. sticks per set) with same settings?
setup memory limit to 333Mhz, apply command rate to 2T too, bump mem. vcore to 2.75V. apply basic memory timings manually and ensure its acceptable for all four memory sticks.(cas, trcd, trp, tras) other memory settings leave it to auto.
    re-test and post back results.

    thanks alot

Try increasing your DDR Voltage by 0.1v and see if it helps with system stability.
You can also check if the speed of the RAMs are properly detected in BIOS and if the latencies are reported correctly.

  • Please help! K8N Neo 2 Platinum instability problems

    Hi!
At the fall of last year I bought new computer parts for a new system, the heart of it being a MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum. Ever since then I have had some instability problems. I tried for a while to fix them, but after a while lost the energy and have just accepted them. Now, however, I want to give this forum a try for help. The instability is irritating and I've been thinking of returning the motherboard.
    The system consists of:
    MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum
    2 x 512 MB Kingston Hyper X PC3200
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    Gainward Geforce 6600GT AGP
Trust 514DX 5.1 Sound Expert Optical
    120 GB Seagate SATA HD
    NEC DVD-RW ND 2510A
    Zalman ZM400A-APF PSU
Nothing is overclocked. I also have a Terratec TV-card that I never use.
I'm running Windows 2000. I have the latest BIOS, 1.C.  I have tried many different Nforce drivers, right now I'm running MEI's nWare Release 06.05a.
The driver for the GPU is 91.28. Every other driver should be the latest there is.
The problem I have is that the system freezes up in Windows now and then. The "funny" thing is that I can run Memtest 86 for a whole day, Windows memory diagnostic all the way trough and I can play games (most of the time) for hours. I have also had the computer doing video compression for days and days, so I would say that it seems kind of rock solid. The freezes seems to happen (I'm guessing) when there is lots of communication going on over the southbridge. It often happens when the HD is working and the CPU perhaps get loaded at the same time, or for example if I'm ripping data from a DVD and starts doing something CPU heavy at the same time. That is an almost guaranteed recipe for freezing. Sometimes it freezes when I'm doing "nothing", but I guess it might also be when Windows is swapping, or something.
I remember reading about problems like this before, with other motherboards. I'm thinking that perhaps some BIOS latency thing could fix it. Perhaps a hacked/tweaked BIOS? Or is the motherboard in fact busted and needs to be returned?
Any thoughts, ideas or tips are welcome. Please help!
    Thanks in advance!

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum memory problems

I just built my first computer with the K9N2 SLI Platinum.  The computer will not boot up with my ozr memory (2x2GB) SLI-Ready Edition DDR2 PC2-6400 4 GB Dual Channel.  Here is the link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XFI1EE .  I can get it to boot with my old kingston ram (2x512MB).  Once and a while it will start up with one stick of the 2GB with the Kingston but not all 4 at once.  When I do get it to start up I eventually get the blue screen of death.  The screen never stays on for long to write stuff down.  This is my first build and I used my old hard drive with the same windows on it.  It is vista home premium 32-bit.  Would changing all the hardware mess up the software on the hard drive?  Let me know what you all think.  Thanks!

Could be the seating of the processor. Think it would be good to take the motherboard out and reseat the processor. Clean off old before applying new thermal grease.
If you want to learn what the BSOD says, normally they a r e  a Windows/software problem,  disable Windows' automatic restart. Right-click This computer and choose Properties. Click Advanced, and un-tic the 'Restart automatically'.
Could it be a cpu problem?  I do notice when i have both of my 2x2GB rams in i get four red LED lights which my manuel does not say anything about.  I have read on other forums that this could be the cpu is not seated right.  Is there any software that will tell me if the cpu is not installed correctly?

  • X48 Platinum memory problems

    Hello everyone,
I recently put together my new system with the following specs:
CPU model and rated speed: E8500
    Memory : OCZ 2x1Gb DDR3 1600 (OCZ3P16002GK)
Motherboard and revision: MSI X48 platinum
    Motherboard Bios rev: 2.20 (latest)
    Video card:-MSI-ATI3870x2
Power supply: Cooler master rp m850
    Operating System: WinXP
I've had great trouble getting my system to run with all the BIOS settings on Auto (it didn't run at all actually, could get past the post but then the screen turns black).
I figured out that the problems came from the memory settings and thus lowered them to run on 800Mhz. Gladly this works stable.
I have tried to change other settings in the BIOS but with no succes. Now I keep reading and reading about memory timings/voltages/FSB ratios/Mhz/and a whole bunch of abbreviations however it feels like I'm only getting further away from a sollution to running my memory at nominal speeds.
I've also tested the memory and found the following:
FSB 400 x 8 (i've got watercooling so that shouldn't be any problem, heat wise)
    FSB/Mem ratio 1:2.00
    Timings on 7-7-7-24-60 2T
    Cpu voltage on Auto
Mem voltage on 1.88 (bios showed the numbers in red)
Tried with the above settings strip no.1 in slot 1 (closest to cpu) and ran without error.
Tried with the above settings strip no.2 in slot 1 also ran without error.
Tried with the above settings strip no.2 in slot 3 also ran without error.
Then tried both strips 1 and 2 in slot 1 and 3 and found heaps of errors.
    To be exact:
Tst 5 had error count 1 to 70
Tst 7 had error count 71 to 226
Tst 8 had error count 227 to 264
Can any of u guys give me some new insight on how to proceed from here, cause I'm starting to get lost......

    Memory : OCZ 2x1Gb DDR3 1600 (OCZ3P16002GK)
    Running stable at 800Mhz
Then upped the Ram voltage from auto to 1.88v and... dang!! Not stable anymore.
Then turned it back to 1.79v to find it stable.
Got it somewhat stable at 1067 but not at 1333.
The road to 1600 seems to be a hard one....
OCZ3P16002GK is in fact an overvoltaged DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-20 at 1.5V).
Something more: 99% of the DDR3 memory modules at 1600  or 1800 are overvoltaged 1333 or 1066 modules.
For future take care and don't buy ... nice heat spreaders.
    cheers

  • Neo 4 Platinum - always problems! :((

    Sorry for my bad english.
After working a while on this mobo, I am unable to working in a stable way and the problems are very big to me and now I have only problems.
Well, in order let me explain what happend:
I have a Maxtor 80 GB SATAI connected on SATA port 1 (nForce) (2 partitions) and this is the boot disk where Windows is located.
I have a Maxtor 300 GB SATAI connected on SATA port 2 (nForce) (2 partitions)
I have 2 Western Digital Caviar 80 GB E-IDE connected on nForce PATA1 Master & Slave and configured as RAID 0 - Mirroring with nVRAID (2 partitions)
    I have 2 Optical Drive (a DVD-ROM and CD-RW) connected on nForce PATA 2 Master & Slave
The problems are that If I move larges files or a big amount of files (about 20 GB in one time) from the RAID to one of the SATA drives (or vice-versa) the system crash... well hung up. The video signal go away and return (black screen, windows desktop then black screen again and so on). After 2-3 times the desktop re-appear but the system is hang up so a hot reset is necessary. After that... I have encountered these problem (i've tried many times):
1st time: Hot reset, at the restart NVRaid detect defective the Mirroring array, So I've pressed F10, rebuilded the Array. Then in Windows the hard disk disappear. In disk management the Mirror disk is seen with a exclamation point and I cannot import the "external disk" (so, I've disabled the RAID, returned to Windows but only one of the 2 WD disks can be seen)
2nd time: Hot reset, at the restart Windows cannot find a file from the 80 GB SATA so I've formatted the partition and re-installed Windows, I've repeated the file transfer but after a while, the system hang up again.
3rd time: At the restart, Windows try to load but during loading the system reset automatically in an infinite loop (try to load windows, reset, try to load windows and so on), so I've tried to reinstall Windows (pressing F6 at the installation to load the NVRAID and nForce Storage Controller) but when It's time to check the disks I receive a Blue Screen of Death with an error on NTFS.SYS file and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. After some investigation (and curse) I've found that the 80 GB SATA seems to have "lost" the filesystem or similar... at the moment of this post i'm unable to access to the disk (if someone knows a DOS utility that can recover SATA disk... let me say!) because If i connect the disk in Windows (or while Windows is loading) I receive a BSOD. Now I'm running the OS on a PATA Hard drive (an OLD Quantum 13 GB) because I don't want to lost any kind of data from my 300 GB SATA and 80 GB WD PATA hard drives... but i'm unable to work in any type.
The bios is the 1.5 (but the problem is also with 1.2!)
    The configuration:
    Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester
TwinMOS 1 GB RAM in Dual Channel Config (Samsung TCCD)
    MSI Neo4Platinum
    80 GB SATA Maxtor
    300 GB SATA Maxtor
2x 80 GB Western Digital Caviar
    ASUS GeForce 6600GT
    Pinnacle PCTV Pro
    SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS
    <Latest nForce 4 drivers>
Please let me know anything because it's very important, and now i've also an 80 GB SATA hard disk that I cannot use in any type (i can't format it, I can't connect to the mobo etc)

In this period I've made a lot of tests trying to find a possible cause.
After a deep analysis, partitions and MBR losts, Hard disk not detected by BIOS, data lost and so on (Thank you VERY MUCH Mr. nVidia for let me test YOUR hardware with MY money!!) I've found a possible cause.
I want to report here the status wishing that could be helpful for others and in particular for nVidia which need to do a BETTER drivers and has sure a poor quality check.
Well, I've forced 2.60 Volts in the BIOS for the RAM, disabled NCQ in drives that support it, Windows driver for PATA controller and I've re-tested all... but AGAIN... BSOD and MBR/partitions fuc*ed. So I've re-do other test and in particular I've burnt 4.37 GB (a DVD-R) from the Maxtor 300 GB SATA and, surprise... again BSOD... SO I've concluded that it's not a SATA to PATA problem... but a worst simple reading from the SATA HD.
This time in Device Manager I've disabled Write/Read Caching for ONLY the Maxtor 300GB SATA (I want to point out that I've also an 80 GB SATA that have Write/Read Caching enabled and works like a charm!) and I've re-do the transfer that previously made the BSOD. This time fortunatly all go OK. I've made also a lot of other transfer... and all OK.
So at the end... Seems to be not an hardware problem (the 300 GB Maxtor is healthy, tested and re-tested), PSU is OK, memory OK, CPU OK... but a sucks drivers that cause the problem. Probably the 16 MB of buffer could be the "problem" for the drivers but surely they're very FAR from good. The latest drivers (6.66) HAS the bug... ALL drivers (from the 1st that support NF4) today are affected by this big bug that fu*k the hard drives so is not a "stupid" bug. I dunno if it's the 16 MB buffer, if it's an incompatibility between NF4 and Maxtor 300 GB or if it's the size or anything else... but the Maxtor 300 GB works PERFECTLY on a Via chipset and doesn't works on a NF4 board without the "trick" (also with the trick the performances are obviously low but at least I can work)
I would like to thanks VERY VERY MUCH syar2003 for the working tricks and also this site (Anandtech) where in the "comments" there are other user with very similar problem (and the bad thing is that seems to be a common problem!)

  • MSI K8T Neo 2 FISR Memory problems....

    Could someone please help me
    I have a MSI K8T Neo 2 mobo, with 500w powersupply, AMD 64 3500+, and 4 sticks of 512mb PC3200 ram (not all installed).
2 of my sticks were bought from PC world as PC3200 DDR400 ram.
    The other 2 are Nanya 512mb PC3200 DDR400 ram.
I ONLY NEED TO USE 2 OF THESE STICKS.
This motherboard was chosen so that i could run DUAL channel.
However when running memory in slots 1 and 3 as manual suggests, the pc crashes when playing games. If i run 1 stick in slot 1 it happily runs all day long.
I have tried running memory in slots 1 and 2 but only making a frequency of 157.1mhz. See screenshot of CPU-Z:
    MY MEMORY CONFIG
    Surely this should be 200Mhz?
Basically i can only make 200mhz using a single stick and no joy with dual channel.

Don't know if this will help
You probably already know about this......

I have just set this board up and encountered thi problem from the start, the problem is that when my pc runs for a bit then is rebooted from windows xp Sp2, it simply turns off, then cannot be started, the fans start then it tries to power up and then dies again.
however, if the system is left alone for a while and you try to turn it on again, it works, untill you either shutdown or reboot and then its back to square one.
    any suggestions guys and girls?

its all good im fixed, it seems that my PSU has 4 fan settings, low medium high and auto, mine was on auto and i guess the thermometer has failed, so it was getting too hot, so now set fan on PSU to high, no probs.

  • K8N Neo 2 Platinum: having problems formatting NEW SEAGATE 200 GB SATA Drive.

    Ok..
I can see the SATA drive during Windows Installation and in Windows XP... but I can't format it.
It freezes up at 20% when I do quick format.. and when I did a normal format it Windows gave me a error saying something about drive may be damage or installed wrong..
Right now I'm running IDE0 Master (Western Digital 200 GB HD) IDE1 Master (Toshiba DVDROM), then the Seagate drive in SATA0.
I see the drive in bios, windows, and windows install...
I've disconnecting my ide drive completly & disabled ide in bios... still won't format properly
i've also tried the f6 and loaded the 'nforce 3 SATA RAID Driver' disc that came with the motherboard and it still froze..
right now i am on my normal bootup (ide wd hd), windows xp detects the hard drive in windows.. i see it in disk management.. i can delete/make partitions.. but i just can't format it.. gaaaaaaah
any help would be much appreciated.

Ah, you just got lucky that Windows didn't try to write something past the 137 GB point.    I've always known about this, but coincidentally, this just happened to me the other day where Windows told me I had a 200 GB (186 GB really) installed and ready to go, but then a few days later I kept getting a ton of "Write Delayed" errors.  I was so distracted at the time (with other issues), that it didn't occur to me what the problem was, and I ended up losing a lot of data.
Anyway, for anyone really interested in the full scoop, you can read about here in Microsoft's knowlege base.

  • MOVED: K8N Neo 4 Platinum Boot problem

This topic has been moved to AMD64 nVidia Based board.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=110171.0

Ups, I messed up. Thanks for moving this to the correct forum!
Yes, I'm using 1st Dimm slot. I cleared CMOS with and without the power cord, with and without the battery, and every way possible. I even held the button down for 2 minutes.
PSU is Vitsuba 450W. The 12V rail has 20A.
I don't have a better PSU. Should I buy one?
Already tried barebone setup. Just didn't know what it was called. Reseated CPU but didn't change anything. There are no bent pins.
How this happened. I was working in windows and it BSOD. I reset and it didn't boot at first time, but after several tries it finally booted. That was last week. The problem repeated once again yesterday, so I decided to do a clean reinstall of Windows, just in case. So I had some troubles to boot again but it booted ok after some time. Installed windows, drivers, updates, apps, etc and everything was fine. I switched off the system yesterday at night. Today the pc won't boot anymore. So, here I am!
Thanks for your assistance and don't hesitate to ask me some more questions!

I have stripped out down to just CPU and still get the same problem, I then swapped it for a FX53 which I had lying around which I know worked as it came out of my Vapochill chassis and also swapped out for some OCZ PC3700 512MB EB Dual Channel Platinum 3-3-2-8.. still no joy.
Any ideas greatly appreciated as I don't want to rebuild my machine as it is exactly how I wanted it I feel I have checked everything but maybe someone can shed a little light.
Anyone want a spare mboard or two ?? I now have three !

Your Tagan's behavior was typical of a failing PSU... but the Turb-Cool model you mention doesn't exist at the PCP&C web site; in fact there are a total of five other 510 models, some of which have only an 8-pin CPU power connector, so it's impossible to figure which one you have.  Does your PSU have a 4- or 8-pin CPU power connector and, if the latter, how do you have it connected to the mbrd?  The only 8-pin CPU power connector I've seen could not be connected to a 4-pin socket, which your mbrd has... or does your mbrd have both 4- and 8-pin?
The only other thing I'd remark is that Vista will not run satisfactorily with your nForce3 mbrd and an ATI video card.

  • Boot Problem with K8n Neo 2 Platinum

I cant get my Computer to load the bios
Sometimes when I restart my computer it will lock up in the Bios Sign on and the only way to get it to boot through is to keep resetting the computer and turning the power off and on. It does this on a random basis, Ive also had problems with it locking up if the dynamic oc is turned on.
Has anybody heard of this happening or know how to fix it?

Corsair memory is known to be troublesome with AMD64.
Nevertheless, if everything is set correctly, it'll work.  I've been running the LLPRO 3200 1GB kit at 220MHz without any noticable problems.  Run a couple of rounds with Memtest86+ to verify memory functionality.
Can you please give your specifications on the power supply unit (PSU), especially the amperage on the +12 volt rail.
    Anders.

  • Problem with K8N Neo 4 Platinum

Hi I am new on this forum.
I have problem with proper configuration of the BIOS in K8N Neo 4 Platinum. My processor is Athlon 64 3000. It has 1800 clock. My BIOS  makes default 200MHz x 5. It makes 1000 MHz clock. Will it be good if I change at 200 x 9?
Other thing: I tried to change at 200 x 9 but in Windows (2000) is still 200 x 5 (acc. to Core Cell). When I chanded on 200 x 7,5 all in Windows was ok. Core Cell showed 200 x 7,5. How I may resolve this problem?

I have my memory in green slots. Does dual channel works in this case?
    - No  Green = Channel A, Purple =Chanel B use Green nearest cpu & adjacent  purple slot.

    HT freq.   5x
That's your HT multiplier as mentioned by Some1ne not the Adjust CPU Ratio which is the CPU multiplier.
Your CPU is running at the correct speed.
DDR Clock: 167 MHz s/be 200 - this should chnge when memory is in right slots.
Change memory over & let's have a look @ those settings then.
    luck
