Neo 2 Platinum won't boot

MY neo 2 platinum with 3200+ is not even a month old. 3 days ago, during normal operation (just on msn and internet) i got about 5 "delayed right errors" all to my boot partition.  these caused my computer to hang until it recover (?). i was frustrated so i tried to shut it down via the start menu. i came back probably 15 minutes later and the monitor still displayed "logging off windows" so just shut it off with the power button. The next morning, i fired er up. It went through POST fine, showed the Boot from CD: thing, then the screen went black, no boot at all. i poked around a bit with the power off and noticed my hard drive cables were a little loose. My raidmax power supply was being weird lately anyway, with only one of the 12V chains working correctly, so i replaced it right away with an Okia 550W. This changed nothing. In BIOS, i can see both of my harddrives, POST shows 1024 RAM. MY D-Bracket display "Testing RTC (Real Time Clock)" every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated, i have notyet tried clearing the CMOS, but will if you recommend it. From all the research i've done this seems fairly common among MSI boards. is RMA necessary?

When you stated you had delayed write errors to the boot partition, it could have been a virus, or, most likely, since the HD connectors were loose, it gradually became so loose, that improper pin contact may have caused it.
Heating and cooling causes expansion/contraction, and something loose can work it's way completely disconnected during the on/off cycles over time. It happens with RAM and VGA cards too. I have seen one instance where it actually damaged the hard drive beyond repair.
You have several options for a repair method, however, just running the repair method will not fix the master boot record. You have to use the Rcovery Console with the command prompt and use the "fixmbr" command to fix the master boot record. In most cases this will work but you may have to reload the OS from scratch. Since I always back up my data, I find it easier just to delete the partition, recreate the partition and reload the OS again on my own systems.
On a clients PC I run the fixmbr and then run a repair (if necessary), if I cannot boot, I attempt data recovery, then reload the OS as described above.
Here is a description of the Windows recovery console for reference http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314058
Here is your likely situation Computer stops responding with a black screen when you start Windows XP
It may be more than just the MBR since there is no telling exactly what caused it since there are two situations explained by the user.
1. It happened while surfing (could be virus related)
2. It was noted that the hard drive cables were loose
Here is a graphical guide also  Recovering Windows XP using the Recovery Console

  • Neo-LSR won't boot at all

    Hi,
my 2.60C + Neo-LSr + 2 256MB Samsung PC3200 combo doesn't seem to like to work with each other. The fans and chipset light show work fine and the D-Bracket shows 4 green lights, but the screen remains black. It doesn't matter if I use 1 or 2 sticks of memory, it just won't boot.
Is there any general Problem with Samsung RAM  and this motherboard ?  Any way I can solve this problem ?
    Thx in advance,
    yoshi

Only way I read here so far was to look for one PC2100 stick,go into bios and set vdimm value a bit up,most PC3200 worked than.
    I have Samsung Ram,working fine,but only PC2100,so no compare.

  • K7N2 Delta2 Platinum won't boot

I recently bought a K7N2 Delta2 Platinum board (product specifications at http://tinyurl.com/b7u57), but I can't get it to boot. I've searched on these forums but can't find anything that might help me.
    WHAT HAPPENS
With just the processor, one RAM stick and graphics card connected, I'm able to turn the PC on with the front switch. The front lights come on and the processor fan starts, but there's no "bleep" and no signal going to the monitor. If I try booting with a hard drive connected, the hard drive does not make the "clicking" sound that it's supposed to.
    MY HARDWARE
PSU: 480w (I've also tried with my old 400w PSU)
    Processor: Athlon 2800 XP
RAM: 512Mb PC2700 DDR (motherboard manual says it supports PC2700 RAM)
    Graphics card: Radeon 9200
All of the above work fine with my old board (also an MSI).
I've also tried my sister's RAM and graphics card with the new one, but it still won't boot.
The jumpers on the board are all at the factory default settings.
Can anyone think of anything that I should try before asking for a replacement?
    Thanks in advance!

The D-bracket displays one green light and four red ones:
    GR
    RR
Which according to the online manual (there's no explanation of the D-bracket codes in the manual provided) means "early chipset initialization". Another thread I found from Googling these words suggests that the problem might be related to my RAM. But the stick I'm using works fine with my other board and I've tried a different stick too.
My PSU is 230v. It has a sticker on it which says "DC output max", followed by the following table:
    +3.3v   28a
    +5v   35a
    +12v   25a
    -5v   0.5a
    -12v   0.8a
    +5vsb   2.5a
Does this mean anything to you?

  • K8n Neo Platinum Won't shut down

    Here's what I have:
    K8N Neo 8 Platinum V.1
    AMD 64 3000+
    1 GB (2x512) OCZ 400 DDR
    Seagate ST3120026A (120GB)
    Seagate ST3160815A (160GB) (both 7200 Barracudas)
    GeForce 7600 GT (MSI)
XP Pro SP3 with all "critical" updates
    Antec SL350S (350W) PSU
    And a problem.
When I shut down, Windows goes thru its normal shutdown routine and the machine shuts down as it should.  Then, in a few seconds, the fans start back up and the floppy drive begins "ticking" as if it were seeking, but it has no disk in it.  This continues until I kill power to the machine. (I guess, I've never let it run for more than about 10-15 seconds.  I figure it can't be good.)
I have disabled all "start on" settings in the BIOS and read many postings here and elsewhere, but nothing seems to fit.  I have either missed something or else this is odd.  (Shoot, I know it's odd, but how odd is a mystery.)
This is my (adult) son's machine, which I built several years ago.  I have a similar one (not as 'game adapted') that I use.  It performs perfectly and always has.  I have a fair level of technical skill, but this one has me stumped.  If someone has seen this before, I'd appreciate some advice.
    Thanks,
    CJon

  • P35 Neo Combo won't boot with Serial Port disabled

Need to disable onboard serial to free up Com1 for new PCI Serial card. Older DNC program needs to use COM1. As soon as the onboard Serial Port is disabled the PC won't boot. Have updated BIOS to latest version. Have seen a couple other people mention this on the net but no solutions yet. Any ideas?

    Probably a BIOS bug.
Try contact MSI for on this issue and see if they could provide any fix.

My specs are in my sig...
I hooked up everything and powered on.... The fans on CPU/System run for a second or two, then they just stop. No beep, no post nothing.
I removed the ram, removed the vid card, removed all IDE cables... just power to mobo including 12V and the POWER swtich.... click power.. fans start... then stop. Nothng else.

Well, I guess my reservations were off...
Bought an Enermax 425Watt PSU, with 2 12V rails with 15 and 14 A respectively...
    System booted up...
So, my apologies to whomsoever I was questioning.
Now my question is, how do I go about setting my DDR clock.. it says at POST, 128 bit memory at 133Mhz...

  • K9N2 Sli Platinum - won't boot? Can't figure out problem.

Hey guys. My computer practically crapped itself the other day, and there were so many symptoms I'm not quite sure
    what to even search for.
I've had this computer for about a year now. no problems since the day i built it.
    specs:
    Msi K9n2 Sli Platinum mobo
    AMD Athlon 64x2 3.2 Ghz
    2x BFG Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX+
    2x Cosair xms2 2gb ddr2
    1000 watt BFG EX Series
    Sony DvD drive
    1tb western digital drive
So i was playing SC2 and my computer froze. So i restarted and it hung during windows loading.
I turned it off waited a few seconds and started... still hung. Cycled it and tried a couple more times.
Still nothing. Naturally i assumed it was a virus so i repaired my windows installation. After it finished it hung on
Windows has finished repairing your computer will now restart. I waited about an hour and decided to just restart
myself. Next time it booted asked me if i wanted to boot from cd and then it just shutdown like i pulled the plug.
Then i thought well i ruined my windows install. I tried booting again it did the same thing. So i just said screw it
ill reformat. But this time there was no signal from my graphics card. When i turn the computer on it will normally
be loud and then get quiet after everything has booted. But now it just turns on and stays loud because i suspect
it's still booting. So i took everything apart. Tried connecting and unconnecting everything. moving ram etc...
Ive got it to boot twice but after that it crashes before windows loads like a plug pull and it wont boot again.
I cant tell whats wrong it could be everything but nothing makes sense. I've built about 7 or 8 computers.
gotten rid of several viruses and bad hardware but I've never seen anything like this.
I tried checking the LED codes for the board. Leds 11 and 10 and 9 and 8 alternate red and green which means HDD and floppy drive are trying to boot.
but it does that even when my harddrive is not connected and it still wont show video. Ive even rotated the graphics cards and tried a 7900gs. nothing.
Edit: now led 6 and 7 are red.
    please help me out. Thanks.

Yeah the case i have is the antec 1200. Never had a problem with heat before.
Ive tried it with just the ram and the cpu and it still gives me the lights so i
guess it must be the mobo or processor. I don't have another motherboard to test everything else on
all my other pcs are 5 to 7 years old.
I was thinking about keeping all my old parts and buying these as replacements:

  • Neo Platinum won't post after BIOS change...

I changed a few BIOS settings in my machine.  Everything was working fine before; all I switched (to my recollection) was changing the boot order and also switching from Manual to Automatic for High Performance Timings (named something like that).
After doing this, the machine won't even POST; I get a ~2 second long beep shortly after turning the machine on, and this beep repeats with a ~2 second pause between each beep.
    I have tried:
    - taking out the memory in bank 2
    - taking out both DIMMs
    - doing the JBAT1 CMOS reset (pins 1-2 going to 2-3)
    - doing the 'remove the battery' CMOS reset
    - doing both the JBAT1 and battery reset approaches, leaving it in 2-3 and battery out all last night
After all of these, there was no change -- I still get the beeps.
D-Bracket seems to have the bottom left light red, and the rest green, if I recall.
    Any guesses?  Thanks.

Ah, to clarify -- I looked at the Basic Troubleshooting Guide for the exact description of what the D-Bracket is showing. It looks to be "Initializing Keyboard Controller".
Maybe someone else knows -- in the list of all of the D-Bracket codes -- which are meant to be green and which are meant to be red? (As the page has white and black..so I'm trying to confirm that I'm right in mapping correctly between white/black and red/green; if my mapping is backwards, then it really means "Assign Resources to all ISA").
As for possible memory issues -- if I hadn't changed anything in the BIOS other than memory timings -- wouldn't resetting the CMOS have gone back to default timings (which were working a-ok until I made that BIOS change).  (Plus, I don't have any other RAM, so I'm looking for other things to also try

  • Please Help K8N Neo4 Platinum won't boot?

    Hello,
I could use your expertise in this matter. I have built several systems and never seen this before. My system will not boot with the hard drive
and/or DVD drive attached. It will boot with just the 1.44 floppy attached. My system is as follows:
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum ATX AMD Motherboard
    connect3D 3038 Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card

               +12V1 - 18a
               +12V2 - 16a
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor

            Cas Latency 2.5
            Voltage 2.5V
            Unbuffered
Windows XP professtional Service Pack 2
I tried resetting CMOS, changing the cmos battery, re-setting the video card, moving memory modules (from positions 1&2 to 3&4). The power supply is working. When I put my hard drive into another system it boots perfectly. Please help!
    Thanks
    Tony

All that info and I still don't know where you are plugging them in.     SATA or IDE(PATA)? Both?
Can you describe the not booting a little more?  i.e.  No video at all, you see POST but it doesn't complete, POST completes but you can't boot an OS.

  • [875P Neo Series] Won't boot, 4 burning LEDS

    Hi,
My computer, based on neo fis2r 875 with a p4 2.8 ghz 800fsb proc, worked perfectly for 2 years.
    Yesterday it didn't boot anymore.
    - the d-bracket gives me 4 burning leds (this means system booting?).
    - no lights on the mouse or keyboard are burning
    - stripped components one after another, same error
    - system doesn't give error beeps
    - system doesn't give the single booting beep
    - no shortcircuit
    - every fan in the case is on as usual
Is the cpu or mainbaord dead now?
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Michel

If your devices workin properly in other computer, change your mainboard. What PSU you have? it's have Overvoltage protection? If you dont close the PSU when u shut down your computer, the PSU is giving power in all devices and it's dangerous for your computer. I lost my screen like this, but not my computer cause im always close my PSU
    im a smart girl
    Hey Din,
The pc is equipped with an Antec Truepower 480W PSU.
Is there no chance the CPU is fried? Changing the mainboard is more work then changing the CPU    .

  • K8T Neo FSR Won't Boot!

    Hello!
My system doesn't boot  . It power all of the fans and disk. The Power and Hard Disk leds stay lit (no blinking) the D-Bracket shows 3 red leds and one green led (green is on the lower left). I try without any disk units, no cards (just my graphic card which I test on my P4 machine and is OK) and just 1 stick of ram. The sytem was working "normally" except for some sporadics blue screens and reboots and  the no NVRAM thing and that my RAM gets automatically reset to 200 (that's why I try the 1.92B BIOS ver) Last thing I remember was flashing the 1.92B Bios using the windows utility and after that kaput!   What can I do? are there any procedures to fix this or did I kill my mobo?
Any tips suggestions will be really apreciated, many thanks in advance.

    Hi
The lower left led is inialising the Keyboard controller.  ODD if nothing has been changed.
you can reset the comp by clearing the jbat1 jumper. Switch power off first, page 2-25 of manual.  If that does not work make a rescue disk. place file AMIBOOT.ROM on floppy put floppy in drive, reboot and press ctrl + home.
    But check the keyboard  first.

  • K9N2 Platinum won't boot with 8800gts

    Processor: Athlon X2 4200+ (old) / Athlon X4 635 (new)
    Board: K9N2 SLI Platinum
    Memory: 4x1GB GSkill
    Power: OCZ700SXS 700w
    OS: Vista SP2
Drives: 3x620GB WD in RAID 5
    Other: 2xLite-On DVDRW
    Video: 8800gts 640MB
Everything else has been taken out to test.
The rig worked fine for over a year with the original 4200+. Fired it up one day and got no POST and LEDs 4/6/8/10 were red. Took everything out and after testing I found that it booted with everything but the 8800gts. Seems like the 8800gts is bad but the LED code indicates a processor problem as per the manual. I picked up the Athlon X4 635 for a steal, updated BIOS and installed that chip. Everything works fine but I still have the same problem if the 8800gts is installed. I tested it with a different power supply with the same results. I don't have another PCI-E card or motherboard to do further testing.
Everything points to the 8800gts being bad and I should just suck it up and pick up a new GTS250 or something but the LED code makes me wary.  I'd really hate to go pick up a new vid card only to find it has the same issue and I'd love to hear if anybody has had a similar problem and found that the LEDs were just wrong in indicating a problem with the processor.
Thanks in advance for any and all feedback. I'll take any feedback on my GTS250 choice also though this might not be the appropriate place for it.

Thanks for the reply Mordred. That 8800 was a great card for me. I was always an ATI guy but the 8800 was at my sweet spot for price and performance when I put my box together so I gave nVidia a try and it worked out.
That makes perfect sense about why I'm getting this LED code. I think I was partially holding out hope that there was just something I was missing and that the 8800 was still OK.
I do IT for a living so I have tried to do as much in-depth research as possible. I game frequently but I'm not really the guy playing the games which are cutting edge graphically and while I like the games to look good, I'm not really unhappy about having to dial down the settings a little. What I'm hoping to do is squeeze the most I can out of my current rig and avoid having to make a large investment in a single VC until the DX12 cards get into their second generation, at which time I'll probably be in the position to build a whole new rig. I guess the decision I'm trying to make is whether a gts250 now and then another 6-8 months or so down the road will last me another year and a half or so until the DX12 cards get into a good price point. Maybe I'm not right on how long that will take?
I picked up the GSkill kits on the recommendation from the hive mind over at Overclocker.net because they were on sale (cheap to begin with) and people were getting some good results OC'ing them. I haven't had an issue with the GSkill kits yet thought I don't remember off-hand at this point where I finally have the timings set at.

  • K9a2 platinum won't boot past msi screen

Any ideas?  System has sat for 4 months off.  Turned on and it would not boot past the MSI screen (screen that says "MSI motherboard platinum edition - press tab to switch to POST or DEL to run BIOS setup").  I have taken all cards out with the exception of the video card, checked all connections, left only dimm1 of ddr2 in, and substituted new unformatted ssd drive as boot for test purposes and removed all other drives.
Also the usb keyboard is inactive.  I have tested keyboard on other systems.
    I would appreciate any help!
    Thanks!!

so here are a few things to look into!
ok maybe your CMOS battery on the board has given up have you tried replacing that? (you have left it a long time and perhaps the battery has totally discharged)
have you tried a CMOS clear? >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
have you tried a different PSU on the computer (if not try another one if you have access to a spare or a computer with a known working unit)?
if non of the above fix your problem turn off your PSU (pull plug out socket or flip switch on rear of the unit) and hold down the power button for 30 seconds on your case and turn power back on and leave for 10 seconds and attempt power on again! (i say that as it may have picked up an odd charge that is preventing the PSU from Supplying the correct power level to the mother board and its hanging at post)

  • K8N SLI Platinum Won't boot...

    Hello!
Yesterday i got my computer parts, i slowly assemblied it and read all the instructions.
    The parts was:
    MSI K8N SLI Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz Socket 939 (Boxed)
    Asus GeForce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 2xDVI-I
Corsair TWINX Xpert 3200C2 DDR 1024MBC
Tagan 420W PSU(I didn't get any info from the reseller about me needing atleast 450W, but it booted so im happy)
    Samsung SpinPoint P120S 250GB SATA2.
It booted and i was happy, i installed all drivers from the cds and installed a game and it ran smooth.
I looked up on nvidia.com and saw that there was a newer driver for my graphics card so i downloaded them and got asked to reboot my computer and so i did.
But it didnt get any further than the re, since it didn't boot up...
All the fans are running in the computer, the memory display started and displayed info.
The screen was dead and by pressing numlock repeatedly on my keyboard i noticed it didn't work either.
I've tried to change spot on both the SATA disc and the Graphics Card. I've tried to reset cmos by holding the button.
And now im out of ideas
    Thanks in advance /Hugge
