Neo FIS2R - New Bios v1.5

Hallo,
I flashed bios to new v1.5 (MB Neo FIS2R) - everything ok and it seems to me a bit faster (Now I will do a tests). But there is one small suprise for me when I was reconfigurating bios in section Frequeny/Voltage Control. There is new item "Performance Mode" with options Slow (default), Fast, Turbo, SuperTurbo. I can´t find anywhere what this option sets? Is it something like overclocking? If yes,how much each option?
Does anybody know?
Thanks in advance
Mark

Hi,
Now I have done tests so:
I have 4x 512MB Kingston PC400, CL2.5
CPU 2.6GHz/800
In Super Turbo mode - failed
other modes - ok
Sandra2003 - memory bandwich:
fast float 4300
     int   4287
turbo float 4734
      int   4733
memory is configured by SPD
So it looks well for me, but I don´t know how it will be stable after long time runnig.
I have also two WD Raptors in Strip on Intel controller and I thing it is great
Sandra2003 with old bios v1.2 - 66036 kb/s
Although they have 10K they don´t heat much and also they seems to me quite silent.

  • MS 6758 ( 875P Neo FIS2R ) Possible Bios Glitch

Just got this new board the other day and as most would attest to doing and hour or so after getting it running, I decided to update the bios to the latest version from v1.4 to v1.6.  OK then, no real dramas except for one minor issue.  If I select QUICK BOOT and DISABLE the LOGO screen so as to show the post screen instead, the computer locks up on ASSIGN RESOURCES TO ALL ISA.  If I re-enable the logo screen ie. the MSI logo etc, then it boots fine.  If I disable this logo screen, and also disable quick boot so it does it's full memory check, it boots fine also.
This only started since flashing the bios to v1.5.  I then flashed to v1.6 and it still did the same thing.  Very weird indeed.  Everything is hunky dory though.  No problems whatsoever.  Just the above small glitch.  It sounds to me like a possible glitch in the bios code to me.  Just curious if other people are having the same problem.
It doesn't matter what the other settings are throughout the bios.  The above 2 settings are the only ones I have found that seem to effect this problem.  If anyone else can simulate the same scenario as what I have, then let me know.  It may just me a hardware config issue.  Who knows.  Nothing is OCed.  All stock speeds.  Apart from the memory timings.

could it be MSI's QC? Seems like people have had alot of mixed success with this board. Some people say it's the greatest since sliced bread some people can't get it to boot. Everyone's system has a different config so it's hard to say but would seem that there's just too many ongoing issues to be a consistant incompatiblity with components used with the board. Chi Pete your sound card, look into one by Philips called Acoustic Edge. I know it's not a SB Audigy but that's the whole point for me, no IEEE 1394 to deal with. Until Creative allows that to be disabled or removes it completely from their cards I'll never buy another one. Anyway the Philips got some pretty good reviews, looks like the software has some interesting control abilities and comes setup like a SB Live, no firewire, no usb, no parallel port just a game port and audio connections. And BTW how does the Cirrus Logic chipset sound? or does your Santa Cruz have a different chipset?

  • 875P Neo FIS2R drive& bios settings help!!

    Greetings guys.
    Newbie here?
Would someone be so kind as to help me set up the following, using W2K as OS on the 875P Neo FIS2R board with P4 3.06 processor 2x512mb ram with a radeon 9700 and onboard sound, all the drivers etc are installed from the CD but am still using bios V1.2, not flashed it yet.......
I want my set up to be the following but I am having problems getting all my drives on the right chipsets.
IDE1= 1x120gb WD drive and 1x60gb drive for storage
    IDE2= Sony DVDR
ICH5R to be 2x37gb WD SATA individual drive not raided on ser 1&2
Promise to be 2x37gb WD SATA as raid 0 for my OS
but I cannot work out the Bios settings and how to acheive what I want, assuming it is possible to do it this way.
Yes I know the quantity of drives is OTT but I did a good deal with a local shop in exchange for the 4x37gb SATA HDD's
Please make it simple, it takes ages to sink into my head...

make sure the "AS raid" option is enabled in BIOS under intergrated peripherals then on-chip conf.
that should handel the promise controller.
then you will need to read the manual to manually set each conf listed.
    pg 3-24
    these settings may do it:
    ATA config set to P-ATA+S-ATA
    S-ATA set to enable
    P-ATA set to yes
    P-ATA set to Both
Combined mode depends on where you install OS: suggest SATA
if that, then S-ATA 1st ch.
    S-ATA RAID set to no
    try this,let me know

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R - Best Bios Version?

The subject kinda says it all!
I read a topic here where someone was having a problem, installed an older bios, and his problems were solved!
Is there a "preferred" bios for my motherboard (K8T Neo-FIS2R)?
Things are more or less working reliably, except that I cannot boot properly when Cool & Quiet are enabled, but I'd be willing to take the risk of downgrading the bios if you guys feel an older one potentially better.
    Thanks!

do not update BIOS when everythink is working fine. BIOS flashing is always risky.

  • K8T Neo FIS2R with bios 1.9=lower 3dmark01

Hey guys long time no post because my rig has been running flawless until I decided to go out and upgrade my ATA/100 hardrive to a WD SATA 200GB HD. Ok Install was good and all that but then I started reading post over at Viaarena about people with the VT8237 southbridge are experiencing slow data loss using SATA hardrives not running in a RAID configuration like myself.
So I saw the new 1.9 bios on the MSI website that list a new bios revision for the Via Raid controller and I think "Great before I even get a chance to start having problems" I will just upgrade my bios from 1.7 to the new 1.9. Well I did that and all appeared to be good, games, bechmarks etc etc until I ran 3dmark01 and noticed that my score had dropped 500 points to 21,500. I made sure to reboot before each test to ensure the most consistent results but still I always came up 500 points short.
So just for giggles I loaded the 1.7 bios back on the motherboard and low and behold it went back to the normal 22,051. I have never seen just a bios update effect 3dmark01 scores this much (The reason I use 3dmark01 and not 03 or 05 is because it is more cpu and memory dependent and 03 and 05 are more gpu dependent) so again I loaded the 1.9 bios back and BAM! scores dropped approx 500 points again. So now Im back at bios 1.7 and am hoping that I dont run into the corrupt SATA drive problem. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

  • New K8T Neo FIS2R won't post

I have looked at all the other threads in this forum, but can't find the solution.
    Specs:
    New K8T Neo FIS2R
    New A64 3000+
New Mushkin 3500 Level One (Cas 2) 2x512MB
    New Antec 550 (24A on the 12V)
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
When I give it power, all the fans come on, the 4 LEDs on the bracket stay lit up, and then don't change, but I get no video or any other indications (such as beeps).  The 4-Pin power connector, is securely connected in the proper location.  The standard ATX connector is also secure.  I'd link to a picture to prove it, but my camera is charging right now.
Currently I have only power wires, power switch, system speaker, video card, and 1 stick of RAM in the first slot.  I have tried it without the video card, without RAM, with RAM in different slots, just about any combination I can think of.  I have even cleared the CMOS a few times.  Nothing changes, I always get stuck with the 4 LEDs.  I don't have anything connected to the USB headers either (that was mentioned in another post).
I know some people have mentioned that the Antec 550's 24A on the 12V isn't great, but it should be more than enough amps, the way my system is setup right now.

    Hi
It does not sound like a major prob,  it sounds like a PSU or memory problem, anyway of checking MOBO with another PSU with at least 20A on the 12v. Also check the memory sticky at top of the posts and see if your OK memory wise, another possibility is that one of the mounting screws is tracking from the board - try removing screws and see if it boots, also check none of the cables are touching the case or MOBO.
MOBO and CPU seem fairly resilent, so faulty parts are not to likely, although one never knows.  Another thought the Jbat1 Cmos jumper is on pins 1 & 2, 1 is marked on board, and you could try clearing CMOS. a corrupted bios could also cause this.
Best of luck, lets know how you go
    Jocko
PS.  looking at the stickys at top, Bas has put one there about a compitition by MSI, one of the questions is about Radeons needing extra power( has an April 1st entry date!!), it is worth checking, does your Radeon have its own supply, you could always remove it and see if it boots.
    Cheers

  • MSI 875P Neo FIS2R + 3.4 Ghz Prescott / Northwood?

    Hello.
I looked a little around on these pages, but I couldn't find answers to my question.
I have a MSI 875P NEO FIS2R, and BIOS version 1.8. Right now I'm using a 3.0 Ghz Processor, but I would like to upgrade to a slightly faster one. Can I upgrade to either a 3.4 Ghz Prescott or a Northwood 3.4 Ghz without updating my BIOS?
I have seen so many on this forum failing to upgrade the BIOS and thus having a ruined MB
I know there used to be a schematic that showed which processors the diferent BIOS'es could handle.
-I hope someone can help me out.
Thank you in advance for your time

Thank you very much for your reply, I appreciate it.
I can see that my signature hasn't been completly updated, but now I have 2048 MB Kingston memory.
The reason I ask about the processor is, that I would like my PC to perform better in Microsoft Flightsimulator X, and they recommend a 3.6 Ghz processor or higher. But you don't think I'll notice the difference from a 3.0 Ghz to a 3.4 Ghz?
I'm definately not upgrading to just 3.2 GHz, that would be foolish as you say.
I have an additional question, if you don't mind:
I'm also upgrading my GFX to a X1950 pro. But again, Microsoft recommends a 512 MB graphics card, but do you think that I should just go for a 256 MB, or should I get the 512 MB card? Will I notice the difference?

  • NEO-FIS2R not powering up - new twist though

OK, so my NEO-FIS2R will not power up when I hit the power switch.  I have changed the battery, and did the clear bios jumper thing.  Here's the twist, if I re-wire the case so that the reset button is connected to the power switch pins on the mother board..I can boot up fine and the system runs like a dream.  Its only when I try to wire the correct power switch to the board that I have issues.  Now I've tried two brand new cases (Thermaltake Damier V6000 and Altec P160) and they both have the same problem.  Any thoughts on why the board can boot from a reset button and not the power switch?

    Asus 5800 geforce FX video
    Thermaltake 480W slient power supply
Thermaltake XASER V Damier V6000 case

Bummer-- I missed the second to the last sentence of your original post.
If you have a DVM (Fluke or otherwise), and fine enough probe tips (or wire), disconnect start switch wiring from mobo and checkout the resistance from inside one connector pin to the other (of the start switch) as you hit the start switch.  Should be infinate until you press the switch, at which point resistance should drop to well under an ohm.  try it on the reset switch also as a point of reference.
    (but on two cases???).
Keep us posted, I'll keep thinking.

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R Old Problem, New Issue

I made my system back in 2003 using a K8T Neo-FIS2R motherboard and a Barracuda 7200 SATA 160GB drive (ST3160023AS). If you don't remember, back then motherboards that supported SATA drives for main drives, sometimes needed extra drivers in order for the windows installation process to work. At first this threw me, but since then I have reformatted my drive a few times using the same disk with no issues.
5 years of file sharing can do a number on your harddrives, and it seems my Barracuda has finally died. It came time to replace my drive with a Western Digital Caviar 320GB drive SE16 (WD3200AAKS). I did not predict there would be any issue with replacing my SATA drive. I have another 500GB drive connected to my system used for only storage and the computer recognized it at once.
So I formatted my WD HD, to NTFS and made it active. Then I installed it in my computer disconnecting my other 500GB drive. I ran windows installation with my Windows CD (which I have used many times and I keep it in pristine condition).
I found that after I hit F6, and it gave me a selection of SATA drivers to use (used xp), it did not not see that drive was there when asking which drive to format (I repeated this many times).  I set about making a new SATA boot disk thinking that my pre-used one had gone bad.
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=565
VIA VT8237(R) SATA RAID Driver (For floppy driver)
I followed the disk directions having already done it before. When I tried to install with my new drivers, I got this error.
"File\I386\NT5\viamraid.sys caused an unexpected error (4096) at line 2108 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c."
Now i KNOW my windows instillation CD is good, but just in case I used another windows CD and got the same error.
The only idea I can come up with is that I upgraded the bios to much and now it is having issues. My bios version is:
    AMIBIOS A6702VMS V2.2 030405
    SATA378 TX2plus(tm) Bios Version 1.00.103026
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try? I have done all the easy stuff I could think off like try different cables, and plug in my SATA to the second sata port and not the first. I have run out of ideas.
The only list thing I could try was connecting my sata drive to the computer using a SATA to USB adapter, and finding the partition in windows through that way. For some weird reason windows will see USBs in the computer but not installed Sata drives. I am thinking I will install windows using the USB device and then try plugging in the drive directly. I have no idea if it will work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your help.
I tried your two versions of your drivers, "VIA PIDE&SATA RAID.rar" "Promise 20378 S-ATA RAID.rar" neither of them worked well (I selected the "VIA RAID Controller(Windows XP"). I received a slightly different version of the last error "File\I386\NT5\viamraid.sys caused an unexpected error (4096) at line 2108 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c."
The (4096) was a different number.
I had used 4 different (yet old) disks, trying to get it to work. None of them did so until i tried it once more. This last time worked, it saw and used the drivers. I was able to get into the disk selection screen, and set to format the disk. As it started formatting (Quick), windows said that there was something wrong with the "Disk or CD". It then asked for me to install the SATA combo drivers. I let it detect the drivers I was using, and it kept saying something was wrong. I tried it 3 more times, and the last time it held and copied the files from the CD, to start windows.
It is obvious to me that I have either a bad disk, CD, Disk drive, or CD drive. This is quite possiblly my last format before I make my new computer. Thank you very much for your help. I would have had to start my voodoo magic tricks to get it to work.
    Crappy floppy cause that
Happend to me many times as well, when you receive the error take out diskette and re-insert it, then load drivers again until works.
Of course simple solution is just replace the floppy drive to avoid "voodoo magic tricks"
Or best solution do a slipstream XP installation and integrate the drivers which you need in XP installation.
    >>> Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD<<<
    >>> Slipstreamed Windows XP CD Using SP2<<<

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R and 2.2 bios problem

I flashed the bios of my K8T Neo-FIS2R to version 2.2.
Everytime I boot the system, I can just see the Windows XP logo appearing for a second, then the system reboots again.
I reflashed from a floppy to version 2.1 again, but still the same problem.
My HDD is a Western Digital SATA drive on the VIA controller.
Can somebody please help me out?
    THX!
    Marco

    Thanks for your support!
After reflashing to 2.0 I still had the same problem.
The bios was not causing the problem. In some way, Windows couldn't load the SATA driver properly, I think.
I removed the SATA HDD from the VIA controller and connected it to the Promise controller, and surprisingly, Windows started again.
The HDD LED works on the Promise, but not on the VIA, so I left the HDD on the Promise controller. The LED problem is now solved as well.
I still don't know exactly what was going on. Anyway, it wasn't MSI or the new bios, it was Microsoft...

  • Should I flash the bios? K8T NEO FIS2R

Ok... I have a K8T NEO FIS2R mobo.  A couple of friends of mine have been telling me to flash the bios to the most current version...  Then some other people have been telling me that it is too risky and I should hold off untill something goes wrong that I know a bios flash can fix...
I'm just wondering what is the concencious here... should I flash it, or should I stay with the current version I have now(the one that came with the mobo)  I Like to have my computer as up to date as possible, but all the reports of bad flashes have me a little worried.  This is a procedure that I have never done before, and I dont want to mess it up.
If I should flash, Any insight, tips, tricks, special instructions, etc... would be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks!
    Magnum

Thanks guys for the quick responces...  I'm used to not getting a responce from forums for 12-24hrs and here it is less than 24hrs later and I have 10 responces.
I'm not at my computer in question right now, but I am almost positive that my bios is ver1.0.  Same one that came with my mobo.
At this point I am leaning towards flashing...  If basically the only way to mess it up is to have my power fail, then I dont think I will have a problem.  I'll just borrow an UPS from work here to be on the safe side.
hypothetically if i follow the instructions to a tee(windows flash/live update) are there any other ways it can mess it up?  I just want to get a hold on all the places where I could mess it up.
Will live update take me all the way through the procedure, or do I need a separate set of instructions to read off of during the flash?
Also what gear will I need...  floppy disk? anything else?
Sorry about all the questions, just want to make sure I do this right the first time!
    Thanks!

  • [Athlon64] MSI K8T Neo FIS2R BIOS Update when? CnQ no workie!

    The MSI K8T Neo FIS2R (MS-6702) hasn't had a BIOS update since 3-4-2005!
I put a Sempron 64 3000+ in my motherboard, and was very disappointed that it is recognized as an "AMD Unknown Processor".  Sure, it works, but one of the reasons I bought it is in the hopes of getting AMD Cool n Quiet to work.  However, apparently the AMD driver can't recognize the CPU due to the old BIOS on the motherboard.
Every other MSI skt 754 board supports Sempron E6 revision already.  Why not the K8T Neo FIS2R?  Where have all the MSI BIOS programmers gone?  I have been waiting 2-months for a BIOS update to support the E6 Semprons.  I have asked and begged MSI Tech Support.  I am tempted to switch to ASUS or some other company that is actually timely with BIOS updates.  Only reason I haven't yet, is this board is everything I want EXCEPT for Cool n Quiet not working.  It's starting to look like there is no BIOS update in sight, so I am very disappointed.
Anyone here work for MSI can confirm there are no plans for a BIOS update?  Because I don't want to wait around for something that's not going to happen.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply I thought the mods here are MSI staff... I was just kind of hoping there's MSI staff lurking here, seeing what people think of their products or seeing what people complain about.
No, pretty much C 'n Q is the only reason I'm disappointed, but it was something I was really set on getting to work since this is a server that's up 24/7, but isn't utilized but maybe 4hrs out of a given day.  I could reduce frequency and voltage, but unlike C 'n Q, it won't automatically increase speed and voltage based on demand - which is something I want since although it's a server, I also use it as a regular PC as well.
I've even tried the 2.33 beta BIOS with no change, and even found a 5.52 BIOS in their BIOS testing directory.  I guess that BIOS was for a different kind of 6702, although I had pulled out the peripheral modules with AMI's MMTOOL and they looked the same as the existing BIOS, but that BIOS killed my motherboard so it couldn't have been for a regular 6702.  I had to desolder the BIOS chip with a heat gun, reprogram the old BIOS back on it with an EPROM programmer, and solder in a socket.  I guess that shows my dedication to get C 'n Q working!
