Neo-FSR and overclocking

is the FSR board as good on overclocking as the neo platinum, because it seems you need to use sata 3 or 4 to get good overclocks, has anyone tested that?
and are their any other big differences except the two sata ports?

they should be the same in overclocking

  • S3 mode doesn't work fine on K8N Neo-fsr since overclocking, please help!

    I have a K8N Neo-FSR (MS-7030) BIOS version 1.6 (I tried 1.4, 1.5), running AMD64 2800+ SK 754, 2x 256MB DDR400 Kingston valueram pluging in slot 1&2. It runs well except S3 mode    .
Since I overclock HTT (everythings else have their own default values), S3 mode seems to work so crazy . After wake up from this usefull stop-grant standby mode, HTT is given back to its original speed, 200MHz, without notice (?!)  .
You know that I don;t like this much, do you?
Who responsible for this function? Mainboard or CPU? If it's mainboard, which department will be sentenced, BIOS or chipsets/ICs?
Could anybody give me a solution to achive higher speed by overclocking without giving up using S3?
    Thanks so much!

It's a bad new! I had bad feeling about DFI with the same problem, S3 mode resuming bring FSB back to df and even sometimes led the system to the ruin. But upgrading bios solved this issue. My old Abit did S3 mode fine. Now I have a new MSI and once again I must use teknophyle's way or slow hibernation instead.
On the same occasion, I wana ask about some shortcoming in 1.6 bios: power on by keyboard/mouse and power led options. I only found S3 wake up by keyboard/mouse but not keyboard/mouse power-on options! There is power led option in version 1.56 but it disapeared in 1.6. Now my mobo has no signal to differentiate between sleep and power-off. would you give back the useful power led option and add power on by combination keys in the near future bios version, syar? Look forward to hearing some good new from you :D.

  • K8N Neo FSR Bios overclocking functions help needed

Hi all, I am a small pc builder for the family and i have found some problems with the bios of my uncles K8N neo FSR which I recommended for him. Basically it wouldn't seem to overclock with the 'Dynamic Overclocking' function on bios v1.7 but did manually by adjusting FSB incrementally (ie from 200 to 205 Mhz). When I questioned this before someone had mentioned that it could be ok to run like this. However I have since updated the bios to v1.9 and even v2.1 as they became available but now neither seem to overclock manually nor using 'Dynamic overclocking'
Firstly though, can someone clear up my first conception; To test if the Dynamic Overclocking function is working can I set it to a higher setting (ie.'Commander'), save and exit bios (restarting) ---> go straight back into bios ----> go straight back into Cell Menu and check 'Current frequency of cpu' has changed?
I only ask this as if this is the case then my Dynamic Overclocking function hasn't worked with three bios' and I wont bother with anything until I RMA the board lol, as I have never been able to change the frequency of my cpu at boot/bios stage with the dynamic overclocking function.
    Can anyone help me?

Hi Stu, yesterday I think i found out what u mean lol. I studied a 'Sticky' ? about overclocking A64s and found some interesting stuff. Apparently overclocking the HTT is dangerous, and A64s are always at least half locked. Now with this in mind Ive been wondering if there are interlocks built into my mainboard stopping me from using the 'CPU Overclock' function to overclock my pc manually from the set 200Mhz while my HTT is still set at 4x. -I say this as the HTT on my system is 800Mhz for a socket754 Sempron 3000Bx, thus overclocking this would increase my HTT above the 800Mhz threashold (I think) lol. All sounds complex but I think Ive figured it out as Im following instructions from the sticky to lower my HTT multiplier before increasing my cpu overclock. Its hard as my mainboard has Nforce3 chipset which has different ways of overclocking to every other board lol. So far I have managed to increase the overclock, but only when the HTT multiplier is lowered to 3x. I have also lowered my cpu multiplier though, and thus am trying to figure out where my 1810Mhz clock speed has changed to 1630 lol. Will try again now. I want to raise the clock speed above 1810, keeping the HTT lower than 800 and leaving the memory alone at 400DDR lol. Im hoping the memory is seperate as it seems to be on this chipset.

  • PT880 NEO FSR and Audigy 2 ZS

Has anyone with this motherboard been able to get this card working without constant and annoying crackling/stuttering during gameplay? I've tried everything mentioned on the Creative forums to resolve the issues I'm having, but nothing has worked. I'm starting to think it's the motherboard chipset.

  • 875p neo tweaking and overclocking help needed

    Hi all,
Ive had this set up for a few years but never once tweaked the bios for performance and now is the time
    System as follows,
    875p neo / amibios 3.3
    P4 3.0ghz / 512 / 800
2 gb corsair 1 gb crucial ram
    Radeon (his)  x850 pro agp 256 gddr3
    OCZ powerstream 520
    4 system fans
    2 x 80 gb wd sata
Ive just swapped the ram around to try and get dual working and decided to get the hoover out as well, good job I did because the cpu heatsink had a great wad of dust on the underside  and maybe that explains the 70 degree temperatures and system slowing down.
What im looking for is advice on how to get the best out of the cpu / ram / agp card and want to overclock as high as poss without melting the cpu.
    Any tips would be great,
    Mick

Ok, the combo of all 4 sticks has started causing instability so ive now removed the crucial 2 x 512 and left with the corsair as 1gb in dimm 1 and 1gb in dimm 3. Im happy to stick with this but cannot adjust the bios to make use of the ram's very fast timings of 2,3,3,6 - if I do anything other than auto spd the system crashes, this is a bit of a let down because the options are there in front of me and this new ram cost me a lot of money. I am a little unsure with the ram timings in bios as there are 5 timings and I only have 4 timing specs from the corsair website, the 5th timing in bios is dram burst length and I dont know what I should set this too ?
Yes I believe I have a northwood and I can now try ddr volt at 2.7 and 2.75, this option is now available after removing the other sticks.
If anyone can suggest a way of getting the best out of these 2 sticks I would really appreciate it.
    Cheers

  • [AMD] K8T Neo 2 and overclocking (giving me headaches)

    Yesterday I aquired an MSI K8T NEO2-FIR board, together with an Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester (90nm). Furthermore I used all the old components (Radeon 9700, GEIL PC3500 2x 512MB CL2, 550W Levicom PSU (doing 35A @ 12V) etc etc).
As I read the 3200 Winchester should be a good overclocker. I know the K8T NEO2 isn't the best OC board around, but as I really need the onboard controllers I had to pick that one. Anyhow, I'm trying to overclock my system to get some better performance from it. I can't get it really right though. I've been reading all day long and I learned quite some, but I still can't figure out what to do.
The current situation: I run my HT at 800 Mhz, my FSB at 230Mhz, the AGP is set to 66Mhz, the functionality "Auto disable PCI clock" is set to enabled, the memory is set to run at 1T, CL to 2.0 etc etc.
Although MSI CoreCenter tells me that my CPU runs at 2.3Ghz, when booting it displays either 2000 or 2167Mhz (no matter what I do). It also (always) displays my memory to be running at CL2.5, even when manually set to CL2.0 (as I do have CL2.0 memory). Onthe net I read somethung about hidden BIOS settings. Do they exist? If so, where can I find them?
I know that for heavy OCing, I should not use the onboard Promise controller. As I have to use it though, I know my overclockingpossibilties are somewhat limited.
Who can guide me in this process?

I have the same issue with my memory always posting at CL2.5
I believe it is an issue with the motherboard...
...I have been in contact with MSI about it and they want me to test my sticks individually. I still need to find time to do that (but I really dont think its my memory, as I have read others with different Ram - such as you - with the same problem)
Please let us know if you can ever get it to post at CL2 successfully.
I am able to get it to post at CL2 if I play with voltage's....but it always locks the system and never makes it into windows.

  • [Athlon64] K8T neo FSR and Sempron64 3100+

My 64-bit Sempron is not recognized by the board (displayed "unknown processor" during boot), but looks it is working.
In "CPU support" section there is note "NONE" which means "not tested".
The only problem I noticed was, that there is not working Cool'n'quiet functionality.
(it was no problem with Athlon64 3000+)
Should be there another problems with this CPU in this motherboard?
I noticed, that there is different version of K8T board (namely K8T neo-V), which (looks like) support Sempron64:
in BIOS from 15.7.2005 there is note: "Support AMD new revision CPU (E stepping)"
(previous note "Support cool & quiet function with Sempron CPU 3000+/3100+/3300+ Rev. D0." looks similar as latest bios from my board)
Can I use this BIOS with my motherboard?
Will be created new BIOS supporting 64-bit Semprons with this board?

Usually if a MB is going to support a CPU they get a Bios update out fairly fast. If may be that the board is too old to handle the newest chips. Keep in mind that the original Neo has been out for over two years now. You may be way better off at this stage to stay to a socket 939 solution than a socket 754 now anyways.
However they may still come out with a Bios update. We can't know here as this is just a user to user forum and we don't have any insider info from MSI.

  • K8n Neo Fsr And Radeon X800 Pro

I'm considering upgrading from my 9800 pro video card to a new x800 pro.  But the placement of the northbridge chip on the FSR board is really tight even with the 9800.  I've got an MSI stock fan on my northbridge heatsink which increases the height by about 1/4 inch.  Does anyone have an x800 pro installed with their K8N motherboard AND a northbridge cooler?  Does it all fit without any special modifications?

Stock North Bridge Fan but Bigger better heatsink for both CPU and Vid card here's a pic of how tight it is, Now if I can get all this in then you will have no problems with yours

Thanks DeathStalker.  I just didn't want to plop down 4 bills for a video card only to have to return it and pay a restocking fee because the card wouldn't fit with my northbridge heatsink and northbridge fan.  Man it looks tight based on my 9800 card.  But I'll take your guys word for it and take the plunge.  Thanks again for reviewing and responding to my post.  Is the x800 card the same physical dimensions as the 9800 pro or shorter in overall length?

    hello!
i have weird problem with my K8N Neo-fsr and Athlon 64 2800+ socket 754, when i try to overclock i change in bios HT from 4 to 3 (for better stability), after restart nothing happen, my pc wont boot, also nothing on screen, so i must clear cmos for solve my problem and set to 4   i try several bioses from official to moded also pinochio`s and syar`s moded and allways the same issue    is it problem with processor? or motherboard?
thanx for your help and sorry for my english

You should first get down cpu ratio, then get up cpu fsb and as you wanted set ht frequency from 4 to 3 and "save changes and exit" if it doesn't boot change you psu (at least antec 380 or tagan) or go fast to send back your mobo to reseller!!

  • K8T Neo FSR DOA

I am helping a new builder with an upgrade from a working system.  We installed a K8T Neo FSR and AMD 2800 Retail  in an existing, working system system.  The current specs are:
    WIndows XP Home (all patches)
    MSI K8T Neo FSR MB
    AMD 64 2800 Retail CPU
1024 Meg Super Talent PC 3200 memory (512x2)
    80 M WD HD
    Liteon CR-RW/DVD reader
    HEC 525 PA ( 3.3V-35A, 12V-18A,5V-14A,)
    Nvidiia 5700LE video
Since installing the upgrade the system will not initialize.  Sometimes the fans (case and CPU) spin for about 1 second and then shut down and at other times nothing happens at all.  I have read the posts about JBAT1 and found it to be apparently misconfigured (two pins nearest the DIMM were connected).  When reconfigured (pins farthest from DIMMS connected) nothing at all happens at boot up.  I have limited experience with 754 MBs but lengthy experience with K7 on various platforms.
    Questions:
The diiagnostic LEDs on the D-Bracket do not light, what does this imply?
Although I have had good previous experience with HEC PS, is it likely that it does not have sufficient 12V current to start the board?  Does this board/CPU combo reallly need 20A plus of 12V to initialize as some posts seem to indicate?
Does the lack of diagnostic readout imply failure of either the MB or CPU?  If yes, how do I identify which?
I have tried all the usual stuff (running with only one memory stick in slot 1, reseating CPU/looking for bent pins, memory and video reseating and checking all connections).  The board appears properly installed on stanchions.  How to troubleshoot a shorted MB?
I have another PS (an Antec True Power 430) but haven't tried it yet.  Is there a FAQ to help troubleshoot a situation like this? ( yes I have browsed the forum but maybe am not bright enough to find the right section)
    All ideas are welcomed.
    Joe

I am getting nowhere with this fast.  As per the previous suggestion I insulated the board from the standoffs with cardboard and retried again.  Same thing, fans spin for perhaps one second and then nothing.  The D-Bracket never lights.  I then pulled an Antec Tru-Power 430 from another working system and tried again, same thing.  I think this motherboard has failed.  Before I request an RMA anything that I might have missed?
System spec (not the same as my signature which is another MSI machine)
AMD 2800 754 CPU and retail HSF
    MSI K8T Neo FSR MB
2x512 Super Talent PC 3200 memory
    HEC 475 PS (3.3V 35A, 5V 41A 12V 18A)
    WD 80G HD
    Nvidia 5700 LE graphics
    Liteon CD/RW-DVD
    lots of case fans
This board was purchased by the young builder from Newegg who I gather no longer supports RMAs on motherboards.  Any comments on RMA service through MSI? I found the link on the website but haven't helped him complet it yet.
    Thanks,
    Joe

  • K8N Neo-FSR - SATA?

hello, in case I missed the information I apologize  . I got the K8N Neo-FSR and I want to ask if there is four Sata support on the board. I have noticed that on the board and also on your homepage-pictures there is only support for two Sata (Sata 3, Sata 4), but in the manual there is support for up to four Sata.
Is it four or two Sata support on the board?
    Thank´s

Can I run single sata drive on them without pata drive
    - Yep just plug it into either socket.

use the rest of sata drive (140gb) normally?
    - No. if using raid it's preferable to use drives of same model (so that they share operating spec) & size so that no wasted space.

  • K8N Neo FSR, Please Help a Newbie

    Hey all,
I'm new to these forums and was wondering if I could get some help or advice.  I currently own an athlon 64 3200+ newcastle with a K8N Neo FSR motherboard.  I have heard that my mobo is basically a platinum minus the luxury of firewire ports, could I be correct about that?  If so, I went to msi.com.tw website to update my drivers and could not help but notice that K8N Neo Platinum has two more updates that whats offered for my FSR, those being CoreCenter 1.7.0.0 and DigiCell 1.03.00.00.  I find corecenter to be useful and am wondering will these two updated versions of the apps work with my FSR, and why would MSI not post the updates in the FSR section.
Also, my board came stock with bios 1.2 and I loaded up windows sp2 and all the drivers and such and everything seems to be working fine to my knowledge, cool n quiet on with cpu around 994 to 1004 mhz, temp readings from bios and sandra all report 36-43 degrees C.  Does that sound right to anyone, because I'm not a fan of bios flashing, would flashing to the newest official 1.4 be any benefit to me?
One last thing, I encountered a problem with a creative usb mouse and do not know the source of the problem or how to solve it, it is the optical mouse lite with a blue scroll wheel and operates fine, but after I shutdown my computer the mouse light is still on, is that normal or is there anything I can do about it besides shutting down my power supply everytime I turn off my computer.
Sorry for the loads of questions, if anyone actually reads this please provide me some input/insight.  Thanks in advance.
    System specs:
    A64 3200+ Newcastle Year 04 Week 26
MSI K8N Neo FSR Bios V1.2

    Aspire 500 W psu, 12v = 34 amps
    Maxtor 60 gig IDE hd
    52x32x52 cdrw

If you look at the prduct page for the K8N Neo FSR, and choose the BIOS link it brings you to page:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=571&kind=1
Which shows the BIOS' available for the K8N Neo FSR.  Notice that 1.3 and 1.4 are available and that the K8N Neo FSR is considered to be a MS7030 which is the same model number of the K8n Neo Platinum.  From this I surmise that you can use the same BIOS and drivers and all that the Platinum uses and everything should work fine.

  • Have you sucessfully overclocked you K8N Neo FSR? Plz post details.

    Hi guys !
Im still stuck with my system that does NOT want to be overclocked so I wanted to know if I'm the only one or not ?
If you have managed to overclocked you system using K8N Neo FSR please post you details.
And I'm also looking for tips on how to bypass issues related to unsucessful overclocking.
    Thank You.
I've managed to do this so far...
    A64 3200+ NewCastle CG-stepping @ 210x11 vCore 1.55
    Corsair Value Select DDR 400 @ 3-3-3-8-2T VDimm 2.70
    using official BIOS version 1.4
    But that's it...
If I increase vDimm above 2.75 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
If I increase FSB above 210 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
    If I set FSB 230x10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
If I set timings to higher values e.g. 3-5-5-10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login

    Gen,
I found a few interesting things last night.  1st, I was having a problem with my CPU and Northbridge fans throttling down to about 1/3 speed after a few minutes of use.  I disabled the Northbridge and CPU target fan settings in BIOS.  You can find these options in the System Health menu of your BIOS.  Also, if you have enabled the "Optimized" option in your BIOS, please disable it and set to "manual".  The only option I've found to help is to select "Aggessive" timings for your memory.  It doesn't change your speed in the BIOS for some reason, but it does do something else because my memory bandwidth is about 60 more with this setting enabled instead of disabled (3430 Int / 3430 Float in Sandra 04 versus 3493 / 3496 with the setting enabled.  OF ALL THINGS MAKE SURE TO DISABLE THE "OPTIMIZED" function and leave it set at manual.  Also, shoot me your current memory timings one more time.  Are you using BIOS rev. 1.4?  Let me know.  Sorry it takes so long between posts, but I check from both work and home and it's usually several hours between getting chances to check for updated posts.  I didn't have to reduce the HT setting on my overclock (I'm still running 4X), but I've read several posts where a setting of 3X will help if you're having problems o/cing.  Also, on your memory timings make sure and set your DRAM to FSB ratio at Auto.  This allows the memory to sync with your FSB speed.  And, I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but be sure to set your AGP speed to 67 (66 is the default).  At a setting at 67 it will positively lock your PCI and AGP clocks to 67 and 33 respectively, making sure that you aren't overstressing any of your PCI devices or you video card.

  • K8T NEO FSR problems and questions.

I read this in an article on http://www.hardware.no:
"MSI is one of the companies that offer free upgrade to a new motherboard with better
specifications, if you have bought 915P Neo2 Platinum, 915P Combo-FR or 915G Combo FR
in the period of time between 21st and 27th june."
Late in june, I bought myself  MSI K8T Neo-FSR motherboard, and an Athlon 64 3200+2.2GHz.
When I run "Core Center", the program shows that my CPU idle temp is 60 Celsius and my
sys temp is 36 degrees, which is COMPLETELY wrong?!?!.
This is very weird, because I have a nice computer case with 5 fans that blow out all
the warm air inside. When I play games, the CPU goes up to 65 degrees and my computer
restarts. This is VERY annoying. How do you turn this off in BIOS settings?
I'm quite frustrated with the thought that my CPU temp. shows 60-70 Celsius.
I have read tons of other forums and I have found out that it's not only me that experience
this problem. I seriously hope that you will fix this bug ASAP.
Does this offer also apply to K8T NEO-FSR? Can I get a free upgrade?
If I don't get my problems fixed, I will take further actions.
    My System specifications:
MSI K8T NEO-FSR, Athlon 64 3200+2.2GHz, Asus Geforce 4 Ti 4400, TwinMOS 1024 DDR3200 RAM, Western digital 80+120+80 GB 7200 RPM, Chieftec BX Tower BX-03SL-SL-SL P4 / AMD, 2x papst 120mm fans, 2x 80mm papst fans, 1 fan in the door of the computer case.

I never heard MSI was doing such an offer...
Anyway, you need the latest BIOS, that solves the temps reading thing, this happens because AMD changed the CPU a bit.
It's not getting that hot, it's just a reading failure.
A BIOS flash should solve it.
