Neo plat 1(7030) + OCZ mem

Just wondering if anybody has tried OCZ PC-4000 Dual Channel Voltage eXtreme (2x512) 500Mhz  on the neo plat. I know I won't get the 3+ volt I need to take full advantage of it, but I'm hoping that it will allow me to get a high fsb w/ 1t using bios version 2.1.
Any thoughts?

sswilson,
Timings 3.4.4.8 should work with it. (If you run it at 200Mhz you should be able to run 2.2.2.6) It is pretty much the same chips that Mushkin used with they high voltage Redines.
Take Care,
Richard

  • K8N Neo Plat MS-7030 monitor blinking issue

My socket 754 K8N Neo Platinum is acting strange.  It seems I can be using it and suddenly it will freeze for a second and then the monitor will blink once and then everything is as it was.  It will do it randomly.  If I remember correctly, it started after I upgraded from 1 gig to 2 gigs of RAM.  I have run Memtest, Rightmark Memory Analyzer, 3DMark all extensively and have had not one RAM error.  Does anybody else have any ideas??
    I have 2 x 1gig OCZ Platinum 3200 RAM, Athlon64 3400+, Geforce 6800 Ultra, Audigy2zs, and Viomax 500watt PS.

You could have som bad connections in the molex connectors between PSU-mobo , PSU-gfx .
Connectors can build up galvanic corrosions specially between different metal in female/male plugs.
Cleaning the connectors and redo the connections might help .
    Could also be software/drivers/irq etc.
Try loading the system e.g with a live linux cd like knoppix or something.
If it works well there , you know its a software problem in your windows installation/software/drivers and not hw related.

  • K8N Neo Plat MS-7030 not POSTing

Posted on this forum a couple weeks ago, but was reqested to get a little more information via a d-bracket, so wanted to post that again and see if anyone had any ideas.
My setup is in my sig, just RMA'd the video card and got the new one back.  EVGA did not indicate if there was anything wrong with it, but I did get a new one back from them.
When I seated the new vid card and installed the d-bracket, tried once again to get past the first boot.  Screen is still blank however like no signal is getting to the monitor.  The d-bracket that is now installed shows two red on top, one green on bottom left and one red on right bottom, which according to what I have read indicates a keyboard issue.  However, the keyboard I had plugged in is the one I am typing on now.
Also, it is producing single beeps, all the same beep with the same interval between beeps.
Tried with one RAM stick, two RAM sticks, swapping them between slots.  Tried with just vid card and RAM installed, and also with HDD plugged in.
    Any ideas?

You gotten the advise about getting a better PSU in this post: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=111918.msg834998#msg834998
So why do you come back with the same problem again while you never answered on the other topic?

  • Just bought SATA2 250GB WD HD for MSI Neo Plat ver 1 (7030).

I just bought a SATA2 250GB Western Digital HD for my MSI Neo Plat ver 1 (7030).
I'm currenlty using the 1.7 BIOS.
I've always used IDE up to this point.
I haven't yet installed my new drive but I'm a little nervous.
Are there any gotchas waiting for me?
What I want to do is copy my partitions from my old IDE HD to my new SATA2 HD.
Something tells me that this is not going to go so smoothly - don't ask me why, it's gut feeling
I predict BSOD when I try to boot from my new HD.
Any advice from people who have done this using the MSI Neo Platinum 1 ?
Can you have both IDE and SATA drives connected at the same time so that I can do a partition copy?
I think that MSI Neo Plat 1 is only rated do SATA1 so I'm not sure how it'll behave with my SATA2 drive
I'm a pessimist by nature, however, my "gut" instints are normally correct

I don´t have the same MoBo as you, so there might be some differences which I´m not aware of, but basically you could install the Sata drive as new bootdrive with OS and keep the old Pata HDD as backup drive.
The Sata installation (not raid) is just like a Pata installation except for other cables and MoBo connectors/IF.
To avoid confusion, disconnect the power from the old HDD and just keep the new Sata drive as the only drive while formatting / installation OS.
You will only benefit native Sata1 performance, but that almost the same as Sata2 so no big deal ( only the theoretically performance is twice as good ).
I don´t think there´s no need to change any backward Sata1-2 jumpers on the WD drive, but if I´m wrong there should be such a jumper that limits the performance to Sata1 - You could check at WD website.
After you´ve reconnected the old HDD - Go into bios ( probably "Advanced" menu ) and set " HDD Boot drive" order ( or called simular ), check and set WD as bootdrive.( don´t mix up HDD boot order with the general Floppy/CD/HDD bootorder).
Now you still have all your files intact on the old HDD and if you want to, you could ofcourse transfer them to the new drive as well.
( You will need to reinstall some programs on the new HDD, that does not work anylonger on the old HDD, but all files are intact)

  • Msi Neo Plat & A64 3000

    Hi guys
Well finally after a few months of waiting ive got rid of my stock A64 cooler and had chance to fiidle with some overclocking i really would like some advise on my recent overclcock perhaps some of you guys know where i might be able to tweak my system alittle bit here's the details
    System
    A64 3000+
    MSI Neo Plat
    2 X 512mb Crucial Ballistix PC4000
    Radeon x800 pro Vivo
    Hiper 450w PSU
    60gig seagate IDE HDD
    80gig seagate SATA HDD
    Cooling
    Thermalright SLK-978u
    Artic Cooling rev4
so far i have reached this
    FSB 235 x 10 @ 1.65v mem @ 2.5,3,3,10 @ 1.70v
    temps are around 39
    3DMark 2001 = 23766
    3DMark 2003 = Havent try'd yet :p
So are my mem timings good ive try'd higher FSB but couldn't seem to get it without upping my volts,  im thinking that it might be my memory settings holding me back but not really sure
    Cheers for reading
    craig

Second double sided dimm in the 7030's seem to really give it headaches.  WILL NOT run @ 1:1 no matter what I do.  Automatically defaults it to 166 divider no matter what slots or bios settings I try.  I managed to get them to run @ 200 by OC'ing to 240fsb but even then I had to use way worse timings than they would do by themselves.  OCZ is the only manufacturer I have found that makes a 1 Gig stick that runs at the same timings as their 512 Mb sticks.  When I get one of those babies I'll really be able to see what this thing will do @ 1:1.  Probaly only get to 220 or so with pc3200 but doing it @ 1:1 with good timings will be sweet!

  • MSI k8N Neo Plat 2...system freeze and crash during h-end gaming...

    MSI k8N Neo Plat 2
    AMD athlon 64 3800+
    Centon 512 MB DDR 3200 x 4
    nvidia geforce fx 5700
    win xp pro
    Creative Audigy 2
Under some graphically intensive situations, during gaming,  especially dealing with alot of background visuals, like fire/lava, etc, the system will after a short while of playing either, crash, freeze, reboot, or freeze while a loud screeching nosie emits from my speakers...I have tried updating my graphx card drivers to the most recent and the symptons still persist..Is there something I need to set in BIOS regarding mem timings, I have tried playing around some, but that hasnt worked either...Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!
    ,

Try raising RAM voltage to 2.7v - 2.8v.
    If no go - Run Memtest86 http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
If no go -  Try onboard Audio ( disable / remove Audigy2 )

  • Overclocking msi k8n neo plat

trying to overclock my msi k8n neo plat and run mad 2001
    hardware - amd 64 3400
    bfg 6800gt
    corsair pc3200
i go into bios and set ram at 400mhz, set agp at 67 mhz. then open center and enter 210 mhz fsb. when i start madonion, it freezes. is it my memory?

Could be a ram incompatibility issue.  I have some OCZ pc3500 EL which is great in my other systems, but doesn't work in the Neo without bluescreens and crashes to desktop.  It might also be a power related issue.  What type of power supply are you using and what is the amperage on the 12v rail?  That seems to be pretty important for this board.

  • Did I burn my NEO Plat?

    Hello,
hope someone has an idea that could help me but i fear i burnt my Neo Plat
    The story so far:
A friend of mine bought a new tower chassis, and he found its front panel usb ports were not working, at least any connected devices were not recognized. Since usb connection seemed correct on his mobo he asked me if he could connect his panel to my Plat USB Ports in order to find out if ths usb panel was really junk.
So i said yes (which i now severely regret), and we connected his panel to my Neo Plat. On first boot up, everything was fine, than I went to Bios in order to check whether i had activated all usb ports (since i normally don´t use usb myself). after exiting the bios the board would report that it hat set itself to "safe mode" and my fsb was reset to 201 (?) (down from 220 oc´ed). That had never happened before but i was stupid enough to not hesitate but make a reset and system would boot up ok then.
We found that even through my board his front panel didn´t work and so i set everything back to normal, and reconnected my thermaltakes front usb.
But when I booted my sys afterwards a terrible smell (!) and a constant deep buzz from the pc speaker would make me disconnect it from power immediately.
I checked everything, wiring or if anyhing had shortened on the board but everything seemed ok!
So i boot up again and sys would at least go as fat as win boot option menu, than same thing again. Now system holds before memcheck. D Bracket is 1 green 2 red 3 red 4 green. I´m too tired to look further inot this now but it seems i somehow was stupid enough to burn my beloved Platinum by my very own hands  .
Now I wonder if maybe anyone on this great board has any suggestions, ideas what it could be- i recall the complete d-bracket codes were explained somewhere but i cannot find them right now
Well I hope to get some sleep now, any help from you guys would be really really appreciated...

    DrCool
I must disagree with your sweeping statement, having just switched over from an ageing tower case, mainly to enjoy the benefits of front usb/fireware ports.
    Quote
the ports on 3rd party cases, are as non-platform specific as possible.
    - is advantage My very cheap case had single wire, well labelled plugs so i was easily able to plug them into my mobo connectors with reference to the pin outs in the manual.
As a result both usb & 1394 worked 1st time
I must admit to being guilty of doing a bit of research 1st on my new case
The key here is to recognise that there can be issues & be prepared.
This as we've seen most notably with the Antec Sonata & our mobos can be an issue otherwise.
have great sympathy with noob256, it's one of those knee jerk things we all do from time to time & unfortunately regret.

  • Msi k8n neo plat problems

I have built 2 computers exactly the same.
    msi k8n neo plat
    512 corsair xms ddr 3200
    8og sata maxtor
    amd 64 3200
    128mb ati 9800 pro
    asus cd drive
When i tried to install windows xp pro on both the machines i got the same error. could not copy file. On each try the file was a different one. After hours of trying new things i found that putting the memory in slot 2 on the motherboard  solved the problem, windows installed and booted up as norm. When i moved the memory back to slot 1 the computer would not boot.
I have now left the memory in slot 2 but the computer will still crash every hour.
I am sure this is something to do with the memory but not sure what the problem is.
    Can anyone help.

Can anybody tell me what i should set the cpu fsb frequency to in the bios.
I just read this in the faq
What is the fsb speed of this cpu?
Depending on which FSB you are asking about: The Athlon 64's have the memory controller built in (which was previously part of the Northbridge on the motherboard) which uses up to 200MHz DDR Memory (400MHz FSB) The HyperTransport link from the CPU to the rest of the motherboard runs up to 800MHz. Just to expand on my answer... The HT link is 800MHz, but it's 16 bit in size (2 bytes worth of data per clock) the total bandwidth of the HyperTransport link is 3.2GB in total - 1.6GB sending data to CPU and 1.6GB receiving data from CPU.

  • K8N NEO PE MS-7030 and Geforce 6800 Vanilla

    I am on the way to buy a new graphic card , and I have 2 choices : 1- XFX 6600GT AGP 8x 128MB 500/100 and 2-XFX 6800 AGP 8X 128MB 325/700, the difference between both about 25$ for the 6800
I prefer the 6800 but I read bad stories with nforce 3 mobos, so it is safe to go with the 6600GT, I know there is no much difference between 6600GT and 6800 but in 6800 you can unlock the extra pipelines and the vertex shader
I read a lot of topics about freezing and craches with ms7030 and 6800 series ??
any one is using K8N NEO PE MS-7030 and Geforce 6600 Vanilla without problems ??
is the problem still or it has been solved ??
SO what is your recommendation ?
    Thanks

Go for the 6800, the problems with the nf3 chipset affect all series 6 cards including the 6600GT. The solution is simple - just disable fast writes in the BIOS.
The 6800 is a native AGP card but the 6600GT is a PCIe card with a HSI chip to convert it to AGP and it gets very hot.  Also you may get lucky with the pipes and it should overclock a bit.  If you stretch a bit further get the 6800GT with 256Mb and it OC's to Ultra speeds.
Too right... In addition disabling fastwrites and the dreaded ATI/NV speedup option, make sure that the 2D/3D accel speeds are at the same settings, if not the card tends to "freak out".
I have a BFG6800 OC ("vanilla" 6800 GPU/slight "factory OC") and I got lucky & was able to unlock the hidden hardware. I had an early 6800 GPU though & I think that Nvidia "closed the door" on that mod with the later builds. Something to keep in mind.
Regardless, with the unlocked hardware I was able to get near (close, but not quite) stock GT speeds but the benchmark score didn't really translate to the real world. The big limitation of the 6800 is the puny 128 mb of RAM. If I had it to do over again, I'd saved my pennies & got a GT (w/256mb of RAM), I'd be a lot happier with it. It's not that the 6800 is bad, but the GT is a LOT better.
The good thing is that the 6800 GT prices are starting to come down a bunch since the 7800's came out. If you shop around, you should be able to find a great deal on one. I'm about to go looking myself, if I come across a killer deal, I'll post back.
Edit: I've done a quick search & the chances of just finding an AGP 6800GT don't look too good. I've checked 5 vendors so far and they're either out of stock or discontinued I may have waited a bit too long....
But vanilla 6800's can be found for about $200.

  • Thermaltake Venus 12 + K8N Neo Plat

Has anyone used the Thermaltake Venus 12 and the KN8 Neo Plat?  Im getting a OEM 3200+ with 1MB cache.
Also is there any speed differance between the 3200+ 1MB and the 512k versions?

I am using  Venus 12. It works very well. My CPU temp at idle is 43c and load 45c. Three hours of Desert Combat and 45c is not too shabby

Will the very newest nforce drivers for windows XP 64 work for my board??

If you mean the 'standalone' nforce4 drivers on the nvidia website I believe so?
Only don't install the nvidia sound drivers coz the NEO plat uses creative.

  • Need help upgrading BIOS - K8N Neo Plat

    HELP!!!
I have bios 1.1 on my K8N Neo Plat.  I have been trying all morning to upgrade my bios to 1.3, but have been unsucessful so far.  Note that I do NOT have any fancy MSI programs installed (I don't like bloat).
Sooooo, I donloaded bios 1.3 from the MSI website.  This is a little zip file.  Then, I tried the following....
    1) Install from an XP boot floppy. -- Flashing the bios appeared to work, but upon reboot, ver 1.1 was still there.
    2) Install from Win98SE boot floppy. -- Same story.  Flash appeared to work, but 1.1 was still present.
For both type of boot floppies, the flash program says that it is currently re-programming the bios, and it exits normally, without any errors.  The filename that I was loading a file called "W7030NMS.130".
    3) Just for giggles, I downloaded bios ver 1.1, and use the "FC" command to be certain that they were different.
    4) I checked my BIOS screens for any hint of BIOS protection, but could not find any.
    5) The readme file that came with the ver 1.3 said to work from the hard drive, but boot floppies do not seem to like NTFS.  So I simply cannot do it this way unless I re-partition and re-format.
    Any ideas???

Try making a boot floppy with this.
Thats Dr DOS Disk For Bios Flashing from http://www.bootdisk.com
It's pure DOS, and will work with any OS.

Hi, i have the msi k8n neo plat. I recently had to replace my old mobo due to the old power supply blowing or something. So i got me a 480watt enermax coolergiant psu. Replaced the mobo for a new msi k8n neo plat. Put the mobo in and psu. Working fine and dandy. Now i installed 64bit xp to primary, and ive had it running for for about 2 weeks. Went to install linux to the second hard drive, so i changed the boot order, saved settings and went to load disc...however now my cd and dvd drives dont work, and they dont work in windows either.
