  • K8N Neo Platinum problems (Front USB connection)

They does not work in my Antec Lanboy case. Does anybody have a clue why?

Check to see if there is a wire running from your Front USB ports to the #10 slot of your USB block which connects to the motherboard header.
    USB connector block
    1 3 5 7 9(filled/key)
    2 4 6 8 10(this wire, #10, not needed)
If you find a wire leading to the #10 spot on the block, remove that wire. My block has tabs so that you can pull the wire out, or you could snip/cut the wire leading to that position--if you cut the wire, be careful to cut the correct one and cut it in such a way that it may be repaired if you make a mistake.  Make sure you wrap the wire, the exposed end/s, you remove/cut with electrical tape so as not to accidentally cause a short. I actually folded the wire back and wrapped it.
2 posts to read--Here and Here.
This seems to be a common issue involving many different case manufacturers. I don't know how it applies to other MOBO manufacturers, but in these forums it is not limited to a specific MSI model or supported chipset(Intel or AMD).

  • USB and sound problems on a P10-221

Hi! I'm portuguese and I don't write to good.
I have a problem with my bluetooth, after installing Windows Service Pack 2 and a Bios update.
I have installed the Version 1.90 , after activating my bluetooth, the Notebook shut's down.
After rebooting of the laptop, the sound and usb connections were gone to, what can I do ?
The Notebook is a Satellite P10-221
    [Edited by: Forum Moderation]

    Hi,
At first I would re-install the chipset drivers for your Notebook.
After that Uninstall the Bluetooth Stack and re-install it also.
There is also a Information Sheet for download available to get information about new drivers for Service Pack 2. Look at http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Config free (4.90.57) and PC Diagnostic Tool (3.0.6) are available for Windows XP Service 2 Users.
Have a look at http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com to get the updates for download.
Keep me posted about your results

  • HP Envy Rove 20 - Windows 10 issues: Hibernation and sound not working

I upgraded my Envy Rove 20 over the weekend to Windows 10. Issues: 1. When the PC attempts to hibernate the power light stay iluminated and it never switches off (I've left it for 10 mins or so, all hard disk activity has finished). I have to hold down the power button to power it off, then power it up from scratch. I had load of issues with this when I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 and resolved them by installing the HP Wireless Button Driver v1.1.2.1. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing this. It didn't help. 2. The sound on youtube (via Microsoft Edge browser and youtube apps) is broken up and distorted.  Any ideas?

I decided to give Win 10 another go as there were a few new drivers available from HP for my device. I've installed all the Windows Updates and latest HP drivers. The results are better than first time around. The sound issue is sorted (I actually think this was a problem with Hyper which is a YouTube app and not the sound drivers). The hibernation problem is now improved, but not sorted. This is the behavior:If I click Start ->  Hiberbate it hibernates OK, and resumes OKIf I let the system Hibernate with the timer, it hangs during hibernation, and never powers off. I have to then long-press the power button to power it off, then power it on as normal. The main difference is that with 2 it goes to 'Sleep' mode first (this bit works fine) then hibernate, whereas 1 skips 'Sleep' mode. So my conclusion is that there's an issue going from 'Sleep' to 'Hibernate'. Things I've tried:Using battery vs plugged in: Made no differenceResetting the power scheme defaults: Made no difference My next test is to try bypasssing sleep altogether by stting the timers to:Sleep after 10 minsHibernate after 1 minAny other ideas welcome as always.

  • P45 platinum boot up usb and oc problems

    greetings
    i m using a 1.0 rev A2, e5200, corsair ddr1066, antec ea500, galaxy 250
its running 333*11.5(3831mhz) with memory at 1:1.6 (533mhz)
voltages are all at auto except 2.10 for the ddr1066
it is all stable however during booting up it freezes at "initializing usb.." message if i have my printer or game controller plugged(both usb)
cap lock and num lock dont flash and i have to hold the power button to turn it off.
i always have mouse and wifi modem connected via usb but they are not affected.
the problem doesnt exist if its not overclocked.
it sometimes doesnt freeze if its a restart.
the bios was 1.6 and ive tried the beta 1.7b9 which didnt solve, neither did upgrading to the current power unit
also tried disabling usb legacy but didnt help. disabling usb helped but obviously i m not able to use the devices.
besides this, i cant get higher fsb than 350 with both bios, didnt change voltage for northbridge(which i doubt if its needed for 400ish), i did lower multiplier and memory ratios to previous working clocks.
any experience related will be appreciated, let me know if further information needs to be provided
    thanks

OK, you have a different CPU and that may be the limiting factor here. You can of course request the latest beta BIOS from MSI. I suggest you do that as it did wonders for my board.
Also can you check on your PSU there should be a label with the full PSU power specifications. Please check the 12V1 and 12V2 rails amps and the max combined amps for the 12V rails.

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum ,bios issue or HW

Hi i am using a system like in the signature described (usind adata instead of twinmos) im cooling with a prometeia system , and the board ist watercooled.
My CPU is a Newcastle (@2800mhz ) my graphic card is the normal 9700pro (it makes no diff in oc if the card is clocked or not)
Now i got some serious problems , i can´t run high fsb sync ? Why ? i wasn´t able to do this with the twinmos ram , but i read twinmos has some serious problems with the nforce3, so i purchased 2*512 mb adata.
I tried different dimm combinations (1/2 ; 1/3) that didn´t made any difference
I tried different bios (1.2 1.25 1.31 1.1) but this didnt made any difference either (using 131 now)
my pci/agp is fix (always 66,67/33,34 in clockgen so its just perfect)
i don´t use any SATA devices (all disabled in bios)
What is my Problem ? is it only a bios problem , or is there hardware in my sys which makes probs? Could it be an IRQ Problem (got 2 pci cards in slot 3 and4 its an IDE raid controller and a soundcard)
i hope there is any help for me :(

Well this is the second time someone mentions problem with Adata DIMMs:

Maybe it's about time to post it here:

For all I can think of right now, either run the board with a single module or both with 5:6 divider

  • K9A Platinum Driver Issues? and power go

    Hi again
This K9A is my first crossfire setup and as I have posted earlier I'm having some Video Card problems.
While waiting for my RMA to get here I ran Video Card Stability Test on my remaining card, was running benchmarks
on same card in PCIE slot#1 then #2.  Also running GPU Caps Viewer when I noticed when card was in slot#1,
the drivers were, 8.421-070928a-053250C-ATI  and when in slot#2 drivers were 8.332-070108a-041892C-MSI.
Is this right? Should I have different drivers for each slot, or is this my major malfunction? When I updated
to CCC 7.10 I thought I was good to go.
Also so much talk about PSUs. where can i find the spec for required power to my onboard PCIE power?
Is a 12v 19A rail enough to safely power it? I like the hi amp single rail idea but they never have all the
connections I need, thats why I went 3 rail.
    Thx again for your thought

    Hi ALL!
Did a 24 hour test on latest card, did all the fixes outlined here and in another post.
Installed new card but didn't enable crossfire, running a monitor on each card, when I
do anything that puts a load on GPU, the system hangs, got to reset.
Got RMA # from Newegg, motherboard goes back in morning.
Still have 2 working graphics cards, didn't try the crossfire.
Will post later on results after i get my new Motherboard.
Thanks Guys for all the help.

  • Bios from my Msi k8n Neo Platinum (socket 754)

Wich is the last beta bios  from my Msi k8n Neo Platinum (socket 754) ?
    And where download?
    Thanks

A thread here , from when 1.56 appeared:
MSI K8N Neo Plat Beta Bios 1.56
    and when 1.55 appeared:
New Bios For MSI K8N Neo Platinum [ 1.55]
Seems to me that the 1.5x series were focused on chipset timings and ram .
Another thing is that i can boot from a usb pen with this one .(never got it to work with others) .
Beta bioses don't come with a changelog , they leak out . So any complete
list of changes is not possible to provide.

  • Neo Platinum mobo dead, NB still heats up when plugged in

I received a replacement neo platinum two days ago, and setup my computer. It was working fine and I went through several reset and power up/down cycles and it worked great. Yesterday I powered up my computer, did some work and then put the computer on hibernation and left the apartment. I came back in around 4 hours and the computer refused to power up.
I opened up the case and made sure everything was plugged in, but nothing happens when the power button is pressed. I checked for shorts by taking the mobo out of the case, I unplugged unnecessary components, tried resetting the CMOS to no avail. I also tried a different power supply.
I did notice that the ethernet LED lights up green as soon as the power supply is turned on, the main power led sometimes blinks once when the power supply is turned on, and the northbridge heats up when the power supply is turned on. If I just leave the computer sitting around like that, it gets so hot that I can't hold the heatsink.
Does anyone know why the NB might be heating up eventhough nothing else seems to work? Could the NB fry itself like that?
I already went through 2 RMA cycles, and had this problem before. I am extremely annoyed and confused... If I can't figure out what is going on I might have to go out and buy a different motherboard.
    thanks

I tried another power supply, that didn't fix it.
I don't have any other memory to try it with;the only thing I know is that it was working fine in the morning.
I do not have another CPU to try it with either
    I am using a Chaintech AV710 soundcard
the heatsink is an arctic cooling temperature controlled fan and heatsink combo
the NB just had the stock heatsink on
I had 4 other temperature controlled fans in the case, all connected directly to the power supply with 3 to 4 pin adapters, so the mobo only had the cpu fan attached to it
    ethernet cable was plugged in
a serial x10 remote receiver was connected
a Cornea LCD monitor was connected
There was a NEC dvd burner and a lite-on dvd drive was connected
two harddisks were connected (both parallel ide,one on each channel)
the last time this happened, the computer was working for over a month, and then one night it reset itself, and then shutitself down and never came back on. This time I put in hibernate myself.
Cool'n'quiet was on, everything else in the BIOS was pretty much in the default settings
is there any other information that would be helpful?

  • Neo Platinum and USB troubles

For some reason I cannot get my case's front USB ports to work.  The ports start to initialize but then fail.  I have unplugged the last brown wire as in a previous post and it still doesn't work.  I suspect that maybe the windows USB drivers are not installed for that USB hub on the mobo.  I have tried to install them but I still can't seem to get it to work.  Can anyone help me with this?  I have also tried with the brown wire plugged in and the USB ports won't even recognize.

As there is a lot of USB geeks (sorry) in here, I will try asking about my problem.
    I have just upgraded to an K8N Neo Platinum nForce3 250gb and a XP3700+ Clawhammer (1mb L2 Cahce).
My problem is that after I turn of my pc, it still sends power to the USB ports?
This means that my H2O cooling pump and other stuff that I have connected to a USB/230V (Europe) relay, is runing continusly
I can't seem to find anywhere in the bios where I could configure this, what can I do?
    My Sytem:
    K8N Neo Platinum nForce3 250gb
    XP3700+ Clawhammer (1mb L2 Cahce)
Mushkin DDR 3500 Level II Ram (1gb)
POW Geforce FX 5900 Ultra (256mb)
    2 x WD Raptor 36gb HD
    1 x WD 250gb HD
Innovatek H2O cooling of NB and CPU
Hope someone knows the answer to my problem
    I have no idea.

  • Question about K8N Neo Platinum and sound

I'm experiencing "gritty" sound when using the onboard sound of the MSI K8N Neo Platinum.  Does anyone know why I'm getting this, and how to fix it?  I'm using Klipsch Promedia speakers.

I couldn't stand the Realtek AC97 audio - it sounded thin and tinny.
    I hated it.
I tried the nVidia drivers and the Readltek drivers, it didn't help - it sucked and there's now way to fix it.
Do your self a favour and get a Audigy 2 ZS (less than $100) and disable the $hitty AC97 audio - much better after doing that

  • Jerky video and sound with my k8n neo platinum

    Hi:
I wonder if any of you have had a similar problem.
My system: K8N Neo Platinum Nvidia nForce 3 250 Gb, AMD 64fx 3200+, 1 gig memory Kingston PC 3200, Gigabyte Nvidia GForce Fx 5200  128 AGP video card, HD Seagate ST2120026A 120 gig, WD 40 gig, Toshiba DVD, Lite on DVD-RW. OS XP Pro SP2. Display Samsumg 17 Syncmaster 710V.
The system worked like a champ for about a month, the all of a sudden it started playing videos and audio in a jerke mode, it would play a few frames and then pause for a fraction of a second and then start again.
    Please can anyone help?
    Thanx in avance

Try uninstalling the graphics card drivers and then installing the latest ones.
Also try defragging hard drive and cleaning unecessary programs from the computer and run windows update.

--Quick Guide for flashing BIOS, provided by MSI--
    1. Create a MS-DOS boot diskette, then copy the the .exe and the bios file to the floppy disk. Both of these files can be found in the package you downloaded.
    2. Press "Delete" and go to BIOS setup while computer bootup.
Check BIOS advanced features and see if BIOS flash write control is enabled
(This option must be enabled. If you can not find this setting, it means the BIOS can be
    flashed.)
    3. Boot from MS-DOS boot diskette and get a:\> prompt.
    4. Type "", then press ENTER
    5. The flash program will then ask "Do you want to save BIOS?", please press "N" for no. The when you see Press 'Y' to program or 'N' to Exit, please press "Y" to continue.
    6. After flashing complete, remove floppy and reset the system .
    7. Press DELETE or F1 when prompted at first reboot after flashing.
    8. Load BIOS optimized defaults, then save settings and exits.
    Drivers & Needed Files:
(Note: All these drivers are for Windows XP.)
Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.40
(Please use at your own risk, these are LEAKED drivers. Password for the .zip file is "ocworkbench rules". Also, you will need to rename the WinXP_2K folder in IDE to either WinXP or Win2K else the installer doesn't pick it up.) Thanks for the link Wonkanoby!
*NEW* Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 5.03
More leaked drivers? Seems some parts of the drivers are older and some are newer.
    1. Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Web Install) -or- Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Full Install)
    2. Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Web Install) -or- Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Full Install)
    3. Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.24
    4. AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver Version 1.1.0.14
    5. Nvidia Video Card Driver Version 56.72 -or- Omega Nvidia Video Card Driver Version v1.5303
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard Nvidia drivers.)
    5. ATI Video Card Driver Version 4.7 -or- Omega ATI Video Card Driver Version 2.5.51
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard ATI drivers.)
    6. Onboard Sound Driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio Codec) Version A3.61
It is HIGHLY reccomended that you install the drivers/needed files in the order listed above. Please note that there are two #5's because you either install one or the other depending on your video card, do not install both of them.
You will come across a problem here though. You can't install the chipset drivers without installing the Windows service pack and DirectX first, but the Windows service pack and DirectX installs need the internet to download files and you won't have working internet until you install the chipset drivers. Here's what I did to get around this. Instead of downloading the web install versions of Windows service pack and DirectX, download the full version and and put them along with all the other drivers on a backup hard drive or burn them to a CD, this way you will have all the drivers you need when it's time to install them and none of them will require the internet to download files.
Another note when installing drivers. Apparently the Nvidia chipset drivers also come with drivers for the onboard sound, but people seem to agree that the Realtek onboard sound drivers are better. When you are installing the Nvidia chipset drivers, just be sure to uncheck the box for sound drivers when it asks you which drivers you would like to install. Now you can safely install the Realtek drivers without any chance of conflicting sound drivers. Thanks for the tip Wonkanoby!

oh.  IIRC the installer just says USB 2.0 will be fully functional after SP1 is installed.  So after you install SP1 you go into device manager and u click update driver and it will auto search and update the driver.
Simplicity-wise, i guess its pretty much equal.  It might take less preparation to just copy DX9 full onto a CD and install that first, then nforce driver, then right away you have yoru internet connection.
but i dunno.. i guess i will try it your way this time when my RMA"d board comes.
i will be fomratting and doing a fresh install later on today and will let you know if i come across any problems
