NEO Platinum wireless keyboard problem

I see this popping up but haven't found a solution yet: I have a logitech wireless KB/mouse combo and it works off the USB but not PS2 port.  I just bouth an Antec True 480 thinking it was a power issue but no go.
I've tried all the problem solving - they work on another computer, corded KB/mouse work on PS2 port, updated DIOS, etc.
What do I do?  I just spent extra for a PSU, should I try another KB or is the problem on the MB like I suspect.
I do graphics work and use a USB tablet which I haven't tried yet, will this be a conflict, is there any drawback to using USB instead of PS2 for KB/mouse combo?
Please help!

Hi,
I (and many others have exactly the same problem). So it is not a single failure we are talking about here.
My guess is there is a bad batch of Motherboards where PS2 just does not work.
It seems to me the problem is that when the PSU is powering the motherboard in standby the PS2 peripherals get too low a voltage , the LEDs are very dim, and thus the keyboard and mouse do not boot properly in standby mode before power on.
I am not sure that MSI will be able to fix this with a BIOS patch, i have had to purchase a USB keyboard and Mouse.
Really this should be flagged up as an official problem.
I already contacted MSI support, and they said to check all the settings in the power management with regards 5V standby, but there arent any options for that, and i have tried every combination without any luck..
Very annoying.. i think we are going to see more and more of these reports as people build in this batch of neo2s..
It probably warrants an RMA (unless a BIOS patch comes out) but its too much hassle to unbuild and wait a few weeks to get a newone for me.
There are problems with the CPU temp reporting in bios 1 and 1.1 (1.2 is better but still temps are reported 3-4oC too high). floppy drives are causing problems, as is SATA raid at boot.
hope this helps

  • Msi k8n neo platinum ps2 keyboard problem

Hi. I'm having issues with my msi k8n neo platinum motherboard. I've read about 50 posts on these forums regarding the supposed ps2 keyboard issues with recent msi boards. However none of them seems to address my current situation.
Like many  others, when I power up my system the cpu fan spins for like 3 seconds then everything comes to a halt.
I tried many things to get my system to boot and the only thing that works is plugging my ps2 keyboard into the ps2 mouse port and moving the ps2 mouse into a usb port with an adapter.
It seems there's no hope for fixing the problem other than RMA'ing, but I thought I would add to the pile of complaints stacking up against the MSI boards.

if u had read the threads a little more u might have found a solution that seems to have worked 4 many - a usb keyboard usb Keyboard if u go this route dont forget to enable usb kb in bios

  • MSI K8N NEO PLATINUM (RAM/HD problem/mobo problem?) [SOLVED]

    my setup:
    windows xp pro sp2
    amd athlon 64 3200+
    msi k8n neo plat - 7030 - bios 2.1
    x800 xt vid
    sound blaster audigy 2
    kingston valueram pc3200 2x512 cas 3-3-3-8
    ps = antec 430 watt truepower power supply (20 A on 12V)
I dont know if you guys remember my but i created a topic on here a while back about how my keyboard and mouse suddenly stopped working, well that turned out to be that the msi k8n neo platinum just went bad. So i RMA'd it and recently got the replacement board (with latest bios already installed). It worked completely fine for about a day. Well that same day i got it back, i installed a Logitech G7 USB wireless mouse. after i installed it, i began getting numerous windows stop blue screen errrors, even after i removed the mouse from control panel. So i figured i should format because to rule out everything and start fresh. So i did a FULL format and attempted the reinstall windows again. AFTER the format and BEFORE windows attempted the continue installation, i got the same stop error. I figured now this was a hardware problem. So first i tested RAM. I got the latest version of memtest86 and let it run for 4 hours (11 passes) with NO errors at all. Secondly, i got a western digital hard drive diagnostic program to test for failing hard drive and again no problems with that. I still suspected ram so i tried to boot with only 1 stick installed (in first slot), however the PC didnt boot at all (cleared cmos too). So i moved it to the second slot and cleared cmos again and this time it posted but it just hangs at a cursor and does nothing, same thing happened with third slot. I tried this same procedure clearning cmos each time with the second ram stick and got the SAME results. Shouldnt the motherboard boot with only 1 ram stick installed? Did MSI RMA me another bad board? Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Can you give us what the D-Bracket was showing ie
    R R
    G R
As an example this means "Initializing Keyboard Controller"
You will find this information in the manual page 2-23. (On mine) under Hardware Setup
Also can you please do all your tests with the ps2 keyboard and mouse and for now leave your Logitech G7 USB wireless mouse to one side.
    Russell
for two sticks of ram = RR
                                   GG
for one stick of ram = GR
                                  GG
as for the g7, it hasnt been plugged in at all, i took it out long ago.. as for the ram, the timing was set to 2T, no overclocking, i will try 2.7 v and let you know, but for the record, it has been running at normal voltage settings for about a year perfectly fine.

  • Possible neo platinum "no keyboard found" fix

I bought parts for 4 neo platinum systems.
1 assembled system worked, the other three had the exact same problem:  they simply would not go past the  post screen.  No keyboards were detected on these systems.
After quite a bit of hair pulling, I finally came to realise that the motherboard CPU backplate was just BARELY making contact with the case mounting plate.
Now, to look at it, you would SWEAR that there was no way they could possibly be in contact, but on close examination, I noticed that the neo plat motherboards have a slight "bowing" effect that peaks towards the center.
I couldnt adjust the mobo, but I could damn well adjust the case.  A few seconds with an 8-pound sledge rectified the shorting problem on all three cases.
The systems all run perfectly now.
    Hope this helps,
       Pex

Do you mean that the M/B would always stop at the 'Initializing keyboard controller' POST step?  If so, I've just returned a board for this problem - perhaps I had the same issue.  Couldn't I just put some kind of insulator behind the backplate to fix this?

  • K8N Neo Platinum USB Keyboard Question

I've been having problems with my Logitech PS/2 keyboard (mobo powers up, then immediately shuts down and requires power be disconnected before restarting).  My office PS2 keyboard seems to work fine, so I will replace my current keyboard.  I see that some here have better luck with USB keyboards, but when I try a USB board it isn't recognized until Windows loads.  I have USB keyboard enabled in the BIOS.  I haven't gotten around to fixing the front panel USB ports, and the D bracket ports don't work either, but the main ports work fine. If I did the wiring change for the front panel ports, would a USB keyboard be recognized earlier in the boot sequence, or should I just stick with a PS2 keyboard?

I just fixed my machine so the USB Keyboard and mouse work properly.  I have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum (BIOS 1.4 8/27/04) and an Antec Sonata case.  When assembled, the two front USB ports and the two D-Bracket 2 USB ports were not working.  Also, I was unable to access the BIOS with the USB keyboard (worked fine with a PS/2, though).  The four USB ports on the Motherboard were not enabled until after WINXPPRO(SP2) started to load (NUMLOCK light and optical mouse would light), preventing me from accessing the BIOS.
The cause of this problem was an extra black wire in the Front USB Port connector from the case.  Once I removed the wire from port 10 on the case connector, all 8 of my USB ports worked fine.  I am now able to access the BIOS with the USB keyboard (once I had unplugged and then plugged it back in) and my mouse shows power as soon as I power on my machine.
    Cheers,
    Tim

When I bought my board I sis some research on it before I purchased. At that time it did not work aty all with MS mouse Opticals. No rythme or reason they just did nor work. I bought a logitech with my board. I got my board all set up and low and behold it did work with the MS mouse.
The moral of the story is sometime they do and sometimes they don't. No reason. Worst case is you need to buy another keyboard. They are cheap items. I feel your pain.
Yeah, usually there's some sort arcane software/hardware conflict - but it's usually been my experience that the included software bundles just rot. I never use 'em anymore.
    But that's just me....

  • K8N Neo Platinum USB Keyboard

Hi, finally got my motherboard functioning yesterday  One strange thing though, when booting the system, could not enter the bios setup since the keyboard was not functioning (it's a keyboard with USB connector). I attached a keyboard with PS/2 connecter to the pc and checked the bios, thinking that USB was still disabled (which it wasn't). I restarted the system with the usb keyboard attached to it and XP came up without any problems, keyboard functional and all (It's a logitech keyboard).
Still when I start the system, the keyboard (although no error message is generated) is not functioning until such time the windows environment is running, after that, I have no further problems.
Is this a known problem to somebody and if so, is there a way to resolve this?
    Thanks for your assistance

Thank you all for the replies to my post. I got this hunch that it might have to do with the way the Logitech wireless keyboard interacts with the startup sequence. So I decided to use a conversion switch PS/2 -> USB onto the normal PS/2 keyboard connection and it worked!. Apparently the boot sequence doesn't like a wireless keyboard

  • Computer in constant restart mode, restore disk & wireless keyboard problem

I am have been trying to restore my system to factory settings with my installation CD however I am encountering a huge difficulty. I ran the disk and the computer restarted, however when it booted up I was prompted to restart again. I have restarted several times and it always takes me back to the gray screen that again prompts me to start my computer again (the restore disk is still in the computer). The major problem that I am facing is that I have a wireless keyboard from Logitech that does not have an eject button on it. In addition all of the safe mode commands can not be used because the wireless keyboard does not work as fast as the computer needs it to.
I am hoping that someone could instruct me on what I commands I could put in once the "gray restart screen" comes up, or if the restore CD is permanently stuck in my computer until I can make it to an Apple store where someone can eject the CD for me.

    Hello avon:
Try restarting while holding down the mouse.
Are you really using OS X 10.2?

  • Wireless keyboard problem after installation of security update

I have an Apple wireless keyboard and wireless mouse that have been working fine up until installation of the latest security update. The mouse still works, but the keyboard doesn't. I'm getting a dialog box that tells me the computer found the keyboard and to enter a "passkey" which is something I've never seen before with the keyboard. It provides me with a numerical passkey. I enter the passkey, but it says there is an error, to make sure my keyboard is discoverable, and to try again. Every time I try, I get the same results. I've repaired permissions and changed the batteries in the keyboard.
I'm looking for some help as to what else I can do. Thanks in advance.

Changed the firewall setting for Thunderbird in Norton's Internet Security from "Auto" to Allow" and this fixed the problem.
I had updated to a new version of Norton's on 3/11/14. Don't know why the problem did not manifest itself until the Thunderbird security update installed on 3/18/14..
Very happy it is now fixed!!! Thanks!!!

  • Aluminium Extended Keyboard and Wireless Keyboard Problems

    Hi
I'm having problems with both keyboards. I have repaired permissions and repaired the disk.
I can't use the keyboard to invoke the Hardware test from the second installation DVD when restarting (holding done the D key), nor can I boot of the first installation DVD by holding down the C Key. Likewise, neither keyboards permit the pRAM to be zapped.
Holding down the Option key when restarting has no effect.
When typing, some keyboard characters and the function keys just won't work on the wireless keyboard. For example, on the extended keyboard I am using now, I can't type a capital t.
the only way to boot from the installation disk, is to select it as the start-up disk in System Preferences.
the login screen does not allow me to type in the password first time around. it just keeps adding bullets, e.g. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
the only way to get around this is to press enter, let the login window shake itself, and try again.
I think this is a software / firmware / driver problem. Perhaps it is related to the 10.6.8 update? the keyboard problems have only started happening today.
My wife said she had to stop everything the other day, because the iMac demanded (out of the blue) that a restart was required. She could do nothing but restart the iMac.
Without a fully functioning keyboard, the computer is not much use!
    Any ideas?

  • BT Wireless keyboard problems

I have a first generation I-Mac g5 computer. Operating system is Mac OS X version 10.3.9.
I have a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse that are apple models. Recently my wireless keyboard lost connection. I changed the batteries and went ahead and rebooted my computer, but nothing. The Mouse still works, but the keyboard did nothing. I tried unplugging the computer and leaving it sit for a while but still nothing.
I had an issue with my wireless mouse at one time after I first made my purchase of the computer and wireless items, which was October 2004, and applecare walked me through it. I've never had problems since now. I'm not sure what the steps were, as the last problem I had with either was in November 2004. My extended applecare has since expired, and I would appreciate input on fixing the problem.
Luckily I have a back up keyboard to allow me to type, but would love to get the wireless KB back up and running. Any suggestions?

Don't know if this will help your particular situation, but in my case it did with my bluetooth connection to my mighty mouse.
Remove the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from the Preference folder (Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist). When you removed that file to the trash, erase the trash file, shutdown the computer and then start it again, it immediately recognized the mouse and asked to confirm the pairing.

  • Apple wireless keyboard problem

Hi i really need help! I have been trying for 2 days to make my apple wireless keyboard to work on my computer windows 7 but i cant figure it out what's wrong.
I manage to pair it but after the keyboard is paired, there is no input from the keyboard most of the time and sometimes it works with no problem a short while maby 1 minute then it stops working and it gets no input.
I have been testing it on macbook pro retina and it works without problem, tried it on a pc with vista and windows 7 and worked without problem there too, so its not a problem with keyboard.
So if there is someone who knows what it could be i would really glad!
i have no idea what category to put this on!

    They'll help you over here.

  • Wireless Keyboard problems after Installing OS 10.5.8

I've been using an Apple wireless keyboard with my G5 (PPC) running on OS 10.4 for about three years without any problems. I upgraded to Leopard 10.5.8 a few weeks ago and immediately lost my bluetooth connection. I installed new batteries, trashed the com.apple.bluetooth.plist, reinstalled the software, and the problem still persists.
I removed it from the list of Bluetooth devices with the intention of reinstalling it as a new device, but every time I try to add the keyboard via the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, the name of the keyboard shows up but it does not pair.
Does anyone have any ideas or solution to my problem? I would greatly appreciate your help.

    Barry,
I installed the firmware 101 because the computer says 201 is not required on this computer.
It finds the keyboard only if I turn the power switch (with the green light at the bottom of the keyboard) off and on repeatedly. This time, it gives the keyboard a new name (Apple Wireless Keyboard). I continue to the nest step, which is pairing. again, after switching on and off, it gives ma a passkey. the little spinning circle that indicates a job is being processed, continues to spin. I enter the passkey #. Eventually the Following error message appears:
"The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. If using a passkey, make sure you are entering it properly on your keyboard. When ready, click Continue to try again".
On two occasions, the Keyboard showed up with the other bluetooth devices but disappeared within a second, and the error message appeared again.

  • K8N Neo Platinum - unusual sound problem

    Hi all,
I am running a K8N Neo Platinum based PC with specs as follows:
    1024 Mb RAM
    200 Gb HDD
    256Mb GeForce4 Video
    16x DVD/CD-RW
I'm trying to use the onboard sound, at this point with just 2 speakers, and until today I thought the sound wasn't working at all. But after going into Windows Media Player I found that I can play music and get sound as per normal - I just get no sound from anything else! The driver is the Realtek AC'97 version 5.10.0.5830 from the MSI site. Does anyone know why this could be happening?

    1. Yes, my sound card is set as the default under all categories, and I have checked the 'use default devices only' box just to make sure.
    2. I know there have been two other topics covering similar problems, but one of these could get no sound at all, and the other only didn't get sound when trying to play DVD's - that one's got nothing to do with this problem, I'd be interested to know if the other is similar, but either way neither of them have been solved!
