Neo2 Plat Issues

I have had my new system for about 3 weeks and as of the last few days, I have ran into a few problems.
First, I can no longer repair my nForce3 network connection to obtain a valid ip address.  Previously I was using this connection for my internet, but now it will not work and while windows shows it connected, shared and firewalled, i cannot connect and while the green online light is on, the activity, yellow light doesn't blink.  I have heard of this going out on other neo2 plats, is that waht is happening here?
Also, I have an issue with my floppy drive.  After using this drive for 6 months in my K7N2 system with no issues, i put it in my new one and while I was able to use it for installing the RAID drivers during my windows install, I can now no longer access it.  I have heard from others that it may be an issue with the new drivers from nVidia, but thus far I have been unable to roll the correct one back to fix this.
If you ahve any ideas, let me know, my sys specs are as follows
-MSI K8N Neo2 Platnum
-AMD Athlon64 3200
-Corsair DDR3200 TwinX RAM (512x2 dual channel)
-HIS Radeon 9800 Pro
-Audigy2
-2xIBM/Hitachi 80GB SATA HDD's in RAID Stripe
-Vantec Stealth 420Watt PS

essentially windows will not even see the drive as being connected

  • Neo2 Plat Issues...Pls help

    Guys.
Finally got my new Neo2 based box built and running xp.  However, I had some issues during the install, and continue to have some now.
1.) During the install, my RAID would show up as 2 seperate drives in the partition dialog - one that's about 70GB, and one that's 139GB.  The RAID0 is made up of 2 74GB 10k Raptors on SATA 3/4. Now when I try to access C: in drive manager, it says its corrupted. The system has labeled the 70BG partition as c: and the 139GB as E:.
2.) Warm reboots as well as some cold reboots are rewarded with the Detecting Raid Array message for a very long time.  I can reboot a few times and eventually get by this.
As an aside, can anyone make some basic performance tweaking suggestions for the mobo with OCZ3200 Plat2 Dual Channel?  I can't figure out the whole timing thing, and am pretty freaked about baking this new box.
I'm a total newb to building machines, I usually just program.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Falsedawn,
Thanks for the tips - I added the sys specs to my signature.
As far as what I've done - I've been lurking here for quite some time in anticipation of the hardware arriving, and I followed  K8N Neo2 SATA Raid problem finally solved
    and
Single SATA or Multiple Drive Array Setup FAQ
    as my RAID guides.
On the memory question - I'm not looking to OC right now, merely to make sure that I'm set for dual channel, and that my timings are right for the parts I'm using.
Thanks in advance for your support - I'm in pretty desperate need of whatever I can learn from you guys.

  • K8N Neo2 plat, no post issue cont'd.

Hi its me again, the guy with the intermittent "no post" k8n neo2 plat.
Loaded the 1b3 beta the other day, again 1 day later the box would not post, as usual no
indication on the D-bracket, just one flash of the keyboard, the fans span one half round.
Since it could run for 1month plus with 1a3 beta BIOS(no usb2.0 (I could not wait any longer wanted usb2.0 so I flashed to a newer bios)),
start thinking it could be something between these latter full versions and this.
Then saw a thread on the web about someone having a Winnie that his box also has issues when swapping for latter
version than 1.5, with 1.5 his plat run fine. Go figure.
So for the time being I switched it to v1.5 bios, lets see how long it holds.
oh btw, the CMOS clear "no effect" seem to be avoided, by unplugging every external
peripheral prior to doing the cmos clear.

    Thanks, all help appreciated.
The Led display from your D-Bracket indicates it is stopping when it tries to initialise the floppy drive.  You don't have one.  No A+ course needed, just hook up your floppy or disable it in the BIOS.  I have no floppy drive (I have no need) so have it disabled.  Probably best to hook up all relevant devices that will enable a working machine.  The BIOS is probably halting when it can't initialise a device.  There would be no point in it proceeding if it doesn't have all devices needed for a bootable machine...
See D-Bracket guide here D-Bracket Guide
    I'm only guessing.

  • Freezing issues with K8N Neo2 Plat & 6800 gt

Well I get random freezing during games. Sometimes it freezes for 5-10 seconds then comes back, while other times it just freezes and the sound comes back but not the game.
I had this problem when I first upgraded.
    K8N Neo2 plat
    1gb corsair xms 3200
    athlon 64 3500
    aslo have:
420-30? antec tru power supply. I cant remember exact number.
    6800gt ultra
    audigy 2 plat
Now I first posted my problem a while ago and someone told me to try chaning the HT to 4x instead of 5x. So I did and it worked. It worked for a few weeks and now the problems have come back.
    Any Ideas?

Along with the above issues, I've also found that a lot of my gaming probs with the 6800 are due to it being a "bandwidth hog" & it's latency needs to be adjusted lower to enable the other devices on the PCI bus (i.e. sound card) to get enough bandwidth to function properly. This isn't noticeable until you start some heavy gaming with a lot going on at once...
If your game ever practically chugs to a halt when a lot of sounds are being produced, this is the main problem. Here's a way & some notes on how to deal with it. Just like every "tweak" though, it's not guaranteed to work for everyone but I got noticeable benefits from it.
    - D/L (I got it @ guru3D) PCI Latency Tool & give the "Read Me" a quick once-over. Write down the values for your devices, in case you need/want to change 'em back. Most items are well labeled - the 6800 & your sound card will be what you are most interested in. I wouldn't mess with the rest of 'em, as they deal with low level system items that are best left alone. Unless you are truly an Uber Geek!
    - The latency for my 6800 listed as a massive 248 clks! For some reason, I've read that ATI cards don't default at such a large value, which might explain why people don't seem to have as many performance issues with 'em. Anyhow lower the 6800 to a more "reasonable" value, like 128 or 64. 64 seemed to work best for me.
    - Save the settings, reboot & test it out. You can experiement with the sound card latency too, in order to find what works best for you, but I wouldn't set it at less than it's default value (32).
    Hope this helps.

I plan on getting a Neo2 Plat, but scared from all these problems that people are asking about...I dont want problems :(

kweckstrom I'm still a little confused you claim to have been building computers since computers were practically invented but you coulden't figure out how to get a new 939 board up and running reliably?? It's really not that hard.. not like the P90 (the pentium that didn't run)
    1 you check for compatability,
    2 you buy your parts,
    3 you put it together..
    4 it runs.
First of all, you should read an entire post before replying. You must not have read it, because I obviously DID figure it out.
If you look at the compatibility list for the MSI board, it's abysmal. They test VERY few modules, and they haven't tested anything newer. Newer modules (like the newer Corsair XL's or Micron Ballistix) remain untested, and aren't likely to BE tested "officially". The Corsair 3200LLPT's worked fine in my P4 rig. They worked fine on the Gigabyte 939 NF3 board. One can reasonably expect that they would have worked fine on the MSI, after all it's the same chipset.
But no, they didn't.  Not even after upgrading my power supply. Yet if I slap all this stuff together on the gigabyte board, all was fine and dandy, even on a PS that only delivered 18A on +12v.
When I tried out the ballistix, I ran into even worse problems, even after ignoring SPD and upping voltage to it's rated 2.8v. But after upgrading my Power Supply, those problems went away and the system is now rock solid and stable.
I'm an older guy with a wife and 2 kids, not to mention a full-time career as a network engineer. I don't have tons of nights and weekends to work through nagging compatibility or stability issues. That's why I say I wouldn't put myself through that mess again.
    Quote
If your buying enthousiast grade parts expect to do a little research first because it's a fact there are more untested parts and there will be some incompatabilities but it's absolutely no different than any intel platform of the same age..
Maybe you should have had someone with a little more time and skill build a system for you??
Then you may have been able to aviod these PEBCAK errors lol
Taking the high road, I see
You should actually read my post next time. I solved the problem long ago. I'm simply saying that this platform is an annoying one because there are tons of incompatibilities that lead to stability issues. That's fact, and you aren't much of an engineer if you dispute it.
What you say about intel systems of the same age is completely untrue. You'd have a hard time finding an intel board that's incompatible with DDR2 by any specific vendor. You'd also have a hard time finding any intel boards that have quirks with PCI Express cards. You'll also have a hard time finding any Power Supply compatibilities with LGA775, because a specific type of power supply is required (dual-rail with PCI-E headers). Sorry, you're wrong here.
On the Athlon64-939, out of the gate you'll have problems with certain hardware.
Take the Geforce 6800's.... The 6800's don't require 2D and 3D clock speeds to be identical on a P4 system. The bios by default doesn't normalize clock speeds for 2d and 3d, because a 425mhz 2D core value uses power needlessly and doesn't make much sense. But if you're on the Nforce3 platform, you're FORCED to set them identically or your 3d games will stutter and eventually freeze.
There's people with issues on Nforce3 using Fast Writes. Some people have to disable them. You simply don't need to do this on intel.
There's people with issues using Audigy cards (the original Audigy 1). They cause BSOD's. This doesn't happen on Intel systems. They work fine there. (Audigy 2 is unaffected).
If someone's doing research into problems regarding the Athlon64 platform, i'm not going to blow sunshine up everyone's butt. I'm going to tell it like it is. I'm not married to any specific vendor, and i'm not someone who's going to insult someone's system building or research skills because he ran into problems with his latest build.
These problems are VERY real, and if you read this board it's LOADED with people who are having issues with stability. You shouldn't be quick to blame their research or skill with a screwdriver.

  • Boot failure - k8n neo2 plat

    Hi, I'm having trouble
Just purchased an MSI k8n neo2 plat mobo with an amd 64 3000+ and finally got her all setup... well minus the geforce 6600 gt arriving tomorrow and I still need to figure out what I'll do as far as memory goes. 1)I'd go further than shturmovik in your 12v amps requirement you need at least 24a especially with your new graphic card.
see Basic Building Tips - Quote
As this pertains to A64's make sure that you have a power supply that is either approved for use by MSI/AMD or that you have plenty of amps on the 12 volt rail. Typically we have noted many issues based on stability with PSU's being rated at less than 24A on the 12v rail.
    Power Consumption: NVIDIA vs. ATI
    2)The D-Led Quote
    Processor initialization
also covers memory issues as with the 64 the memory controller is on the CPU.
as your 1x mushkin pc2700 256mb (test mem) this rules out any dual channel problems.

  • Neo2 Plat 7025 "looping" on warm boot.

Was having some video issues (GeForce 6200) on 8N neo2 Plat 7025 board (1GB RAM , Ballistic; 4 SATA drives,
2 IDE CD/DVD drives) and thought 'upgrading' BIOS might solve issue (the video issue turned out to be a
    resolution setting, auuggg)
Upgraded BIOS to .1B0 version for 7025 - /CC set / CD set upon flash. Flash 'seemed' to go
    well.
First boot, to post info, went fine and into windows.
WARM reboot seems to cause "looping" at post. IF i shut down, reboot (cold) then
all is fine (well, not EXACTLY, read on for second issue).  If I enter BIOS and change setting, I
must TURN off the machine and start cold to get to Windows.
Okay, within Windows (XP SP2) the system is a bit off. On first boot, both CD/DVD devices showed up
but one of my 'RAID' arrays did not... I shut down, restarted ('cus I cannot warm reboot) and
went into BIOS... checked to be sure that all IDE was 'enabled' and that 'SATA RAID' was enabled for all
interfaces. Saved and shut down... powered off basically.
Rebooted, NOW all SATA RAID shows fine, NO CDs/DVDs?? Seems I cannot get this thing to work
    perfectly no matter what.
Before the flash, I had the SATA RAID go 'missing' once in a while but a 'scan for hardware changes' in
device manager would always bring 'em back... NOT now.
Ideas about this and ANY help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

They certainly seemed to... but I did find occasional "missing in action" arrays (until I did the 'scan for hardware changes"...
I see there is a modded C3 (beta)
Say, Syar2003, the bootblock is the 'first' portion to be written in the GUI 'graphic' that displays progress (yes, no?)
Thanks VERY VERY MUCH. I also am going to use the "Clear CMOS" jumper (did the  /cc  switch on program, but maybe???)

  • New K8N NEO2 PLAT. and SC-939 3200+ help needed...

    Hello,
I have just upgraded my system with K8N Neo2 Plat. and sc-939 3200+ A64 Cpu.
There are several issues I need to resolve which are:
1- Although I change from BIOS the settings for AGP to 4x8x and enable fast writes, I still cant see them turned on from the Catalyst Control Center. Everything is greyed out what can I do? They all used to be on and agp was 8x with my K7N2 Delta board....
2- Although I installed the original drivers from the MSI CD, I couldn't get one of the network prts to install. Realtek installed OK. But other one is defined by the device manager as standart network adapter. What can I do?
3- I am brand new to A64 system so I do not know what setting to use from BIOS can you help me out, for instance there are values for HT such as x3 x4 x5  mine is set to x5? what is this? should  I enable cool and quiet, I am not intended to do overclocking. Can you give me some tips for best performance?
    My best regards.

Make sure your bios is up to date: version 1.5. Look at the sticky threads and use the information to enable hidden bios features. Disable ATI/NV speedup in the bios. Uninstall your drivers and reinstall. If the information is still greyed out, download the free version of Sandra here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/ and check the module under video system information. This will tell you if fast writes are enabled and your AGP setting. Leave the HT(hyper-transport) set to 5X unless you plan on oc'ing, if you do oc then may find you'll need to reduce it to 4X or 3X. Try downloading the latest driver for your network from the MSI website. Right click the device in device manager and select update, select specific location then "don't look...I'll choose", direct it to the file where you've unpacked the correct driver and then update.

  • RMA and still same problems! (Neo2 Plat)

I was having the system shut down over night problem where nothing woudl turn on, no fans on anything, not even the powersupply.  So I tested my Powersupply on a friends computer and it was dead and I also tried numerous power supplies on my motherboard and it was dead alos.  So I had the power supply and motherboard  RMA'd and got it put back together today and I am still having the same problems!!!!@ !
I hooked up the CPU, ram, and video cards just to see if it would start up; nope, I hear a crackling noise coming from the brand new powersupply, but the fans start spinning on the powersupply but nothing else.  What else could be wrong, could my CPU be dead???  I only hear the crackling noise when I have the 12V connector plugged into the motherboard and this is where the CPU gets power from correct?  Could I be in need of a new processor?  I tried my ram video in other systems with no issues so its seems the cpu is the only thing left......@#$%^

I had a similar issue.  Shut it down over night.  Next morning I removed the HSF to install AS5.  When I put it back together, It wouldn't boot.  The D-bracket at 4 red LED's, which means "CPU damaged or not installed properly".
So I sent my CPU to AMD for testing, and It wouldn't post for them either so they sent me a new one.  RMA'd the MB also.  Got the "new" MB/CPU back together and have had no problems since.
What does teh D-bracket hang on?

  • What is it with the onboard devices on Neo2 Plat.

What is it with the onboard devices on the Neo2 Plat. The sound really really sucks. Bass is like not there at all, other sounds is of LOW quality - Even with the Nforce driver the sound sucks, infact this is the WORST onboard sound I have ever tried.
The wireless module is also a tragic "thing". Keeps reseting ur conection every 15 mins or so (I have 3 computers with wireless, the Neo 2 Plat is the only haveing this problem).  When the wireless is working (until the next reset in 15 mins) the Package loss is like 40%???? What is that.
I thought I had a "DOA" MOBO device, GOT ANOTHER ONE. SAME SHITE.
Even tried the Win64 RC edition, guess what, same problems.
If I am wrong about this let me know (find it hard to belive since I have tested 2 Neo2 Plat, with the same problems).

take a look at the new apple wireless keyboard... they use the same layout.

I gotta give a shout out for the Corsair Value Select series also.  I ran it for years in cheap systems I built for friends without any problems at all.  Newegg has it pretty cheap (under $100 bucks).
I think their cheapest starts at 79$ bucks for DDR400

  • Unidentified 10-12Pins inside the K8N Neo2 Plat

    Hi guys,
I've just finished setting up my K8N Neo2 Plat into the case with the jumpers and cables etc. And there's sometihng interesting I discovered.
There is a set of jumpers or Pins, just above the JDB1 [D-Bracket pins] that seems to be unused and un-labelled in the Instruction manual.
The PCB has it labelled as JPC1 with a small arrow pointing downwards.
I searched thru the manual, and no sign of what it's used for.
Anyone else noticed this when they installed their board jumpers and pins?
    Many thanks
