Neo2 Plat wont boot for 10+ minutes after failure to boot.

I have had my system fail to boot twice now because I OCed something it did not like... unplugged everything, re-set j-bat and pulled C-Mos battery still nothing.
Leave it unplugged and come back in a half hour it starts right up.
?? What is this all about?
If you guys dont have an explanation for me then I will have to blame my PSU.
At least now I have the D-Bracket installed for when it happens again I can see if any power is on the board at all....as it seemed there was nothing at all.

Sounds to me like the PSU is overloaded and goes into protection mode.  When a PSU is overloaded thats what usually happens.
Of course, if you had a sig... or gave any system details at all... then we might have more of a clue.

  • Mavericks boot takes 5 minutes after Boot Camp

The boot of my MacBook Air is taking too much time, about five minutes according to my tests.
Yesterday I reinstalled OS X and then installed Windows 8.1 on a Boot Camp partition. After choosing the boot disk from OS X settings, the boot of my OS X partition takes some minutes, instead of the previous 11-12 seconds. The boot stops on Mac logo and loading indicator for 5 minutes.
Instead, Windows is loading very fast.
    Any solution?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • ICal adding alert for 35791394 minutes after events

Since I've upgraded to Mountain Lion, I'm now getting random Alerts set for 35791394 minutes after the event (between one to three alerts with the same number of minutes for each event). I'm syncing with iCloud to an iPhone 4S and iPad (3), both with most recent iOS. All calendars are set to default with None for Alerts (on all devices).

I've been following this - and have just been holding off contacting Apple, since it seems there's no fix yet from what some of you have gone through - But I've done a few tests tonight and can replicate the alert - here's what I found - maybe this can shed some light on the bug for some Apple tech:
Make event in Calendar - no alert
Open it on iPhone - shows alert at time of event
Edit it on iPhone - now in Calendar it shows Alert - Message 35791394 minutes after.
Edit on Calendar to set Alert to NONE,
iPhone still shows Alert at Time of Event
Edit iPhone to remove Alert to NONE
Calendar still shows NONE (as before)
Edit iPhone timing of event, still alert None
    Calendar still shows NONE
    ---------NEXT-------
Make event in Calendar - no alert
iPhone shows Alert at Time of Event
Remove alert, set to None AND edit time of event on iPhone
    Calendar still shows no alert.
-----So it seems to me that an event created first on Calendar with no alert - shows up on iPhone with Alert at Time of Event - then if you edit it on iPhone - it goes back to Calendar with the Alert -Message 35791394 minutes after.
But... if you FIRST remove the Alert on the iPhone before editing the time of event - it doesn't create an alert back in Calendar.

  • Tecra R850-117 boots up 5 minutes after power down

After shutting down my Tecra R850-117 it will automatically restart after exactly 5 minutes.
This is unwanted behavior because it drains the battery while I'm not using the laptop and it could also damage the disk carrying it around while running...
Anyone knows what could cause this behavior and how I can stop it? The laptop is 6 months old and I'm only noticing this behavior since the last few weeks. I already noticed the battery would be drained after not using it for a few days (probably due to the same issue?), but never before noticed the unwanted restarts...
Thanks a lot in advance for any useful advice.
    Erik.

A power off on a notebook is not a mechanical power down, but a state where the system can still be woken up by a few events (like wake on Lan/keyboard). One of these events is the RTC timer. For a reason that is still unknown (at least to me) this timer caused my notebook to restart five minutes after shutting down my Linux sessions with a "power off".
As I see it now the RTC timer was set at every shutdown. To what value it was set I don't know for sure, but looking at the data I was able to figure out it looks like the RTC timer would be set to a moment in the past (being the time the system just booted). Maybe this resulted in the timer thinking it had missed an alarm, and restarting as a result?
I wasn't able to get this issue solved, but I was at least able to find a work around: As soon as Linux boots it now automatically sets the RTC timer to a date two years ahead. Not a beautiful solution, but well... It works...

  • XOrg is maxxing out my CPU for several minutes after start [UNSOLVED]

Since the last update, XOrg has been using 99% of my CPU power for about three minutes after it is started. This happens whether I am using Slim, console login, whatever; I checked with top and it is definitely X that is using up the CPU power. This happens on Debian as well as Arch.

So I reenabled "glx" and "DRI" and everything seems just fine.  I believe the culprit in my case was simply the "NoAccel" flag being false by default.

  • Reader got "not responding" for a minute after click a hyperlink in PDF document

Hi.  Anyone got similar experience that the Reader hanged for a while after clicked a hyperlink (to an internal website)?  From the NetMon trace, it showed that the Reader made query to our internal DNS with an unknown FQDN (just "com.hk"), then waited for time-out and came back the response.  Want to know the mechanism how and why it makes such query.  My Acrobat Reader is in version 10.1.3.

    Hi,
    To use Network Diagnostics:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Network
Click Diagnostics to open Network Diagnostics, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Brand new IMac 27 bluetooth mouse and keyboard not connecting for eight minutes after start up.

I have a new imac 27 that has worked flawlessly for three weeks.
All of a sudden, when starting up the mac boots fine but the bluetooth mouse and keyboard are non responsive. This state is maintained for between 7 and 8 minutes then both mouse and keyboard start working and continue doing so for the rest of the day....until the next restart and the whole saga repeats itself.
Both sets of batteries are fully charged.
I have scoured different sites and tried any suggestion that made any sense, to no avail. All I am able to do at the moment is to do the time, wait the 7 to 8 mins. and then all's good.
My first Mac and this is very annoying especially as Apple must be aware of this issue but no solution is forthcoming!
    Any suggestions/workarounds would be great.
    Thanks

if you are using rechargeable batteries sometimes they don't stay charged for as long as they should try using alkalaine batteries and see if the issue still persists.
also try doing an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

  • I was charged for overage minutes after I was told upgrading to a next higher plan would not.

During the month of January, I was about to go over on my minutes and I called Customer Service. A representative told me my best option was to upgrade to the next higher plan and pay the difference rather than getting charged for the overage minutes. I did exactly that.
On my February bill, I was charged the overage minutes. While on vacation, I called Verizon again and a representative told me I was right in what I was told by the other representative. She filed a request to have the charges removed, and it was later denied. I pleaded my case again and how the first representative told me to do exactly that. Once again, denied. I had to settle for a lousy 25% off the charges after talking them up from 10%.
I feel cheated and scammed after I was told what to do and later comes back and bites me. HELP!

I had the 1400 minute plan and upgraded to the 2000 minute plan. The bill clearly shows the 1400 min plan being taken off and charged 2000min plan from the beginning of the billing period.

  • Some applications starting slowly / hang for a minute after launching

    Hi!
For some time now, some applications are starting really slowly. The ones I could identify by now are Apple Pages, Microsoft Excel and Wofram's Mathematica. When I click the respective icon to start the application, the dock symbol jumps and everything looks fine, the system doesn't hang but when the just started application is active (its name appears on top, next to the Apple logo), the mouse cursor turns to the famous spinning beach ball when I move it to the top of the screen. The same happens when I just close an Document and create a new one (when all Pages documents are closed, the program presents all the templates; when I choose one, it hangs).
This behaviour doesn't appear everytime, but very often, so it is repeatable. I can't identify some point in time when this started, I don't think it has something to do with the 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 update. Pages is the newest version, as is Excel. Mathematica is version 5.2.0. I absolutely have no idea where to start to look for a reason for all this. I hope that someone here can help me!
    Thanks in advance,
    Marco

    Hi!
    Thanks for your answer too!
    1) Run Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on your hard drive.
Did that, some permissions were corrected (as always...)
    2) Boot from your Tiger install disc and run Disk Utility and use the Repair Disk option on your hard drive.
After checking the disk, the Utility said that everything is fine.
    1) You mentioned that this problem has been going on
for some time now. Can you think of any software
that you installed or software that you updated at
the time that you first noticed this behavior?
Unfotunately, I can't. This started about 3-4 weeks ago but I absolutely can't remember installing or doing something special that falls into the same region of time.
    2) Do you run any kind of system hacks/optimizing software?
No, not as far as I know. I don't think that I ever installed some piece of software that really alters something in terms of the system itself (except for TinkerTool System, but I didn't start that in months)
    3) What programs do you typically have open all of the time?
Mail and Safari are running all the times; other applications I'm using frequently are TextWrangler, X11, XCode, Terminal and World of Warcraft, among others.
(Almost) Sure Fire Solution to this problem: [...]
I knew that this was coming up
Of course, a complete reinstall is a solution I don't really like. I got my iBook last October, so this installation is running for 9 months now. But as everything else is fine, I really don't want to format my HD and do it the hard way.
By the way: I tried a few more applications and surprisingly, Apple Keynote, MS Word and MS Powerpoint don't hang after starting up. I also deleted all iWork and MS Office related stuff in ~/Library/Preferences and still no luck...

  • Debugfs using 100% cpu on boot for 10 minutes

    Hi,
I've recently installed archlinux on my Thinkpad x230.
I have arch and windows on my SSD which is /dev/sdb and I've got an HD for storing files at /dev/sda1 (ext4).
I set it up with systemd in the beginning so I can't compare to what it was like when it was using init.
    I'm getting commands like:
    root      3524  0.0  0.0  21520  1112 ?        R    15:08   0:00 debugfs -R stat ./grub/i386-pc/newc.mod /dev/sda1
    root      3510 94.5  0.0  21520  1108 ?        R    15:08   0:01 debugfs -R stat ./grub/i386-pc/probe.mod /dev/sda1
With various files running for about 10 minutes on boot and using 100% of my cpu.
Seems to be related to the HD on /dev/sda1 as I don't believe I've seen any on /dev/sdb.
I've looked around and I can't find anything about this.

If any more info if needed I'll try to supply as soon as possible.
    Thanks!

    Start with this:
Open System Preferences, select the Network pane and select AirPort in the "Show:" popup menu.
Set the "By default, join:" popup menu to "Preferred networks."
Delete the listed preferred networks using the "-" button but this time we did not add it back again with the "+" button as Apple recommends.
Set the "By default, join:" popup menu to "Automatic."
    Restart.
Manually rejoin the AirPort network using the AirPort menu icon, i.e. selecting the network (or selecting "Other" and typing in the network name if hidden) and typing in the WPA (or WEP) password.
If you are using the Checkpoint Secure Client software, then you need to uninstall it.

  • Drive with Offline Files folder not available for 2 minutes after being connected to the network.

    Hi
We use Windows SP1 with one folder from the User HomeDirectory set to be available offline.
The problem we encounter is that when going from Offline to Online via VPN, there is a 2 minutes delay for the drive where the offline folder is located to be available again. Other drives mapped at VPN connection time are available immediately
after we applied KB2705233. Only the drive that contains the folder that we make available offline has this delay issue.
I found out KB2663418 but it does not apply as we have Windows 7 SP1. However the symptoms are the same:
< This issue occurs because the client-side caching (CSC) interface tries to reconnect to the source before the network is actually available. This behavior causes the SMB cache to enter a negative state. In this situation, the CSC interface tries to
reconnect to the source on the next 2-minute retry interval.>
Does one know how to force a check of the connectivity or if there is another fix available ?
    thanks in advance
    bruno

    Hi,
Why KB2663418 didn't applied to your computer? It applied to
Windows 7 Service Pack 1, when used with:
    Windows 7 Enterprise
    Windows 7 Professional
    Windows 7 Ultimate
Did you use Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium?  However, Windows 7 Home Basic and Premium does not support Offline Files.
    Thus please try that hotfix.

  • Unable to Connect to Internet for 10+ Minutes after iMac Wakes Up

This has been driving me crazy and any help would be appreciated. Apple has referred me to my ISP and my ISP has referred me to Apple. Every time my IMac (Intel Core 2 Duo) is awakened from Sleep, it takes around 10 minutes for it to connect to the internet. I'm using an ethernet cable to connect the Imac directly to my modum. If I use the same cable with my PC, it connects instantly. Once I'm on the internet (with the iMac) I have no problems. I never get booted off. It's only when the iMac has been asleep and needs to reconnect. I've seen similar problems on the boards but the solutions don't seem to take care of my issue. In System Preferences, my Location shows "Automatic" and Configure IPv4 shows "Using DHCP." I've restarted countless times and have reinstalled the operating software to no avail. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Do you have the Airport card still turned on?? If it is, then turn it off and this may speed things up a lot if your computer is trying to check a local wifi network.
When this happens, does it sort it if you remove the ethernet cable, and then put it back in? It may be that your router thinks the machine is still active, and your machine is trying to connect afresh. This has the router thinking you are asking to be connected twice, and the Mac thinking it isn't connected at all.
Let us know if any of this makes sense.
    Karn.

  • Issue: Login to OS X server using Lion or Mt Lion client. Unable to connect for ~2 minutes after user logout & login

    Situation:
Using Lion or Mt. Lion client, login to our OS X server (we have a Leopard server and a Lion server) using AFP and FTP.  No problem.
Log off server and then log off as user.
Log back in as user.  Attempt to login via AFP or FTP.  It continues to bring up the login screen and won't let me login.  Wait ~3 minutes and try to login via AFP or FTP and it magically works.
Is there a plist or other file that may need to be changed somewhere that has a 'time out' causing this issue?

Thanks Dave. Yes, I completely removed all the elements listed there before reinstalling. The only thing I didn't do was reboot the machine in-between. I checked logs and found no crash log for ARD. Presuming I looked in the right place: /private/var/log/crashreporter.log and /Library/Logs/CrashReporter
There was one entry from December 8th in the crashreporter.log but no subsequent file in the second location where it was supposedly written.
I can hook up a monitor and access directly, it is just that I have to make an appointment with our IT guy to let me in the data center where it resides. I was hoping to avoid that. I'm reluctant to reinstall via ssh after removal. If something did happen that crashed the machine, I would rather be at the data center so I can fix it directly. I suppose that will be my next step: to go there and do a removal/reinstall directly.
Thanks for you help. Let me know if you think of anything else.
I suppose that is the next thing to try:

  • Since I updated to 10.7.4 boot for 5 minutes

    Hi guys,
I have a problem with my iMac.
I have on a second partition lion installed. Everything worked great, but since I updated to 10.7.4 booting needs about 5 minutes. Anybody who also has this problem?
Or any idea what I can do? Allready checked the partition and the access rights.
    Thanks a lot

  • Database Session hangs around for 20 minutes after logout

We used HTML DB 1.6.0.00.87 to create a custom data warehouse reporting application. For some reason once you log out of HMTL_DB, the database session does not go away until 20 minutes later. I have tested it several times and it is consistent at 20 minutes. Does anyone know what controls this and how I can adjust it?

    Hi Randy,
What you're probably seeing is the connection pooling done by the mod_plsql module. They 'hang around' because connecting to the database can be an 'expensive' overhead, if you run a query that take 0.5 seconds but your connection takes 0.25 seconds, then obviously a great way to reduce the overall time is to not recreate that connection each time, so a connection pool is used.
Are these sessions causing you a problem?
