Nepali characters in CS2 InDesign
I have to copy Nepali characters (Mangal font) from a Word document to CS2 InDesign. My problem is that when I past them in InDesign, some characters change. Where could this change come from? (The autocorrect is not enabled)

If you are interested (beyond simply "I need it to work") - complex scripts like this one require a lot of conditional glyph changes. So a vowel that prints by itself will leap up above a particular consonant when it appears next to it, for example. Much like cursive in English, but far more complicated. This is true of a wide variety of languages - many scripts from southeast and central Asia, all Arabic-related scripts, Tibetan, and so on.
MS Word uses Windows native Unicode rendering to display such complex-script characters. Adobe using a completely separate type-rendering engine, no matter the language. It's one of the reasons to pick InDesign in the first place, actually. But the normal paragraph composer doesn't render complex scripts accurately.
If you are stuck on CS2, then you could just export PDF from Word and place those PDFs in InDesign. It's not pretty, and it's not easy to use, but it works. I used to have a nasty kludge-y workaround when I had to avoid placed files that relied on saving EPS out of Acrobat in a very particular way that resulted in outlined fonts in Illustrator, that I could then copy and paste into InDesign. But really, if you need to handle Nepali more than once, then any upgrade to a contemporary version of ID that has the World-Ready Composer is completely worth it.

Install problem putting CS2 indesign on a Vista 64 bit
Bought CS4 web suite. InDesign was in CS2 web suite. Was not included in CS4 web suite. Now trying to install CS2 InDesign onto new computer. I am gettting the following: C:\program files(x86)\ Adobe (the path selected for installation has unsupported characters- choose different folder.
All my x86 adobe progs are in this folder.
I have a core 2 quad cpu 2.67 ghz 8gb ram, 64 bit Vista home premium.
Any help would be appreciated.Totally unsupported but this might help:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/325/325739.html
It refers to XP 64 but holds for Vista 64.
I don't remember CS2 but I don't recall InDesign being included in the web suite...It was part of the web bundle with Design and Macromedia Studio.

Cant activate my cs2 indesign newly downloaded
I have macbook pro. And CS2 indesign. Can't find disk. Owned it outright. Was told to download CS2 indesign from adobe link. Downloaded-doesn't work. Scared to take off my original version from my disk- in case I can't find my disk in storage. I can't open old files. Can't open any CS 2 indesign at all. I have apple- MacBook Pro os x. Worked great and stopped 8 months ago-will not launch. Today is Aug.22, 2014. Thanks, almost an adobe hatter.
For the CS2 download you need to use the serial numbers they provide as well.

Snow Leopard CS2 - InDesign crashes on print
Hello!
I am hoping some one can send me in the right direction in figuring this out. I have googled this problem until my fingers are sore and have yet to see anyone with this issue. I have gone through the many many documents about not being able to export to pdf and have followed all of those directions hoping that maybe there was some correlation - still nothing.
So what's happening is we open a standard document create either text or regular box then click file print and get the crash (Problem report from InDesign below)
we can print repeatedly with only a box on the page. sometimes it will allow us to view the print preset dialogue and some times it will almost allow us to create a new print preset.
it gets REALLY buggy when you click the text tool - some times as soon as you click the tool it crashes and sometimes when you click the page. The below Problem report from InDesign was from printing with text on the page.
This is a fresh install and software update to 10.6.5, fresh install of CS2 and I have not added any fonts, this also happened before the OS upgrade. Photoshop and Illustrator seem to work and do not even stutter when printing, This is only happening in InDesign. After trying to read through the badly labeled post on here I saw one almost similar post about a printing error and there was no help offered.
I have read many times that CS2 should not run with snow leopard and have seen just as many post that CS2 does run with snow leopard. If by chance you can please offer ANY advice or support it would be greatly appreciated! We are a fairly small publishing company and this software is our only option.
Thank you in advance!!!

FireWire Device: built-in_hub, Up to 800 Mb/secI can work in CS2 Indesign on my iMac running 10.6.5 with no clichés (so far), but like this thread, InDesign crashes and shuts down when attempting to print.
However, I have no problem making any type of pdf from InDesign, and my PDF's print without any problems. So, for now, I work in InDesign, and when I need to print, I make a PDF of my document and then print it. I know it's a pain, but for now, it's all I can do to keep using CS2.
I realize the solution is updating to a CS package that will run flawlessly with 10.6. (anyone have a few hundred dollars to give to this worthy cause?).
But if anyone out there figures out a way to print from Indesign CS 2 on 10.6, please let me know. My actual needs are minimal, so CS2 does all I really need it to do for now . . . if you don't count that I can't print from it. Ha ha . . . not funny.
This is an update on my progress to resolve my problem (it's now two hours later than the text in this post above). I had a copy of InDesign CS 3 that I never installed. I decided to give it a try so I installed it. It installed with no problems and I updated it using the InDesigns update feature.
I can now print with no problems using the print dialog box from within InDesign. However, my specific print features from my brother printer dialog box won't function. All said, I rarely use those features so it seems I now have a copy of InDesign (CS 3) on OS 10.6.5 printing adequately, provided I only use the print dialog box from within InDesign CS3, which suites me fine.
Good luck everyone. -
CS2 Indesign increases pdf size from CS3 Indesign pdf
Hi
I am using CS2 Indesign Version 4. When I import a CS3 Version 5.0.2 pdf and then export the file to a pdf, it increases the file from 5 mgs to 30 mgs.
I am using a G5 Mac with 10.4.11.
Does anyone know how to keep the file size down. I am told it is a CS3 thing. No, the problem is with PDF export from InDesign 4.0.x in which there is tremendous file bloat, sometimes up to 30% or more in certain cases. This bug has been fixed in InDesign 5. Upgrade and the problem goes away!

CS2 InDesign crash when exporting
Hi,
I've got a copy of CS2 InDesign at work that crashes when exporting a certain file to PDF.
The files have limited information on each page except for placed PDF & JPG images. The images themselves seldom get above 300kb each, but there are lots - some times 5 per page in an 80 page document. It's a document to be printed so the images are as small as they can be.
When exporting the document, ID crashes without warning - it just vanishes, no dialog box saying 'This application unexpectedly quit' or anything.
Is this common? I have plenty of memory on the Mac, and no other applications or windows are open at the same time.
Any suggestions as to why this happens?
All text in the PDF images are outlined in Illustrator so presumably it's not a type recognition issue.
Any suggestions welcome.
cheers
GHi Bob,
System spec is PowerPC G5, version 10.4.11. I'll have to ask our Mac expert
if CS2 is fully patched.
Cheers for your response.

Pasting CS2 photoshop images into CS2 Indesign
On windows XP platform----How do I paste CS2 Photoshop images without pixels around image into CS2 InDesign? Thanks.
First question:
>How do I paste CS2 Photoshop images... into CS2 InDesign?
Later:
>How do I paste images from Photoshop CS2 into Illustrator CS2...?
Later still:
>How do I paste an image from Illustrtor CS2 to InDesign CS2...?
So what's going on here?
Start again. What programs are you using? Generally, you use File > Place to import files into InDesign or Illustrator. Copy/Paste are usually a recipe for bed news. -
CS2 Indesign doc - Tables have uneven thick and thin lines - made PDF - on screen some white out
Using CS2 Indesign. Doc about 100 pages with numerous tables. The lines inside the tables is uneven although I have changed the stroke size to be consistent. Once it was made into a PDF Acrobat 9 it looked much worse on screen. Uneven lines and some lines actually whited out. Really out of time trying for a solution - with an important deadline. Anyone have any experience with this?
How does it print? You can't always judge line width on screen.

Periodic failure to echo typed characters in CS2/CS3 InCopy & InDesign
Hi All,
When typing in InCopy the key struck is normally displayed immediately. However, periodically, entered keys are not displayed for a couple of seconds then appear altogether. After that entered text appears normally for a few seconds then the cycle repeats with a few seconds worth of entered keys not displaying then suddenly displaying all at once. Typically I get about 10 seconds of normal response followed by 2-3 seconds of no response as a repeating cycle. Data is not being lost but its display is being delayed. This has also been seen with InDesign CS2
Because of the regularity of this phenomenon I'm wondering if I've unwittingly turned on some feature of InCopy which runs periodically at high priority. Does anyone know of such a feature and how I can turn it off?
Thanks in advance
Paul StricklandThose machines are ancient in computer terms and what you're seeing is
exactly what I'd expect to see.
There's an earlier thread about the same thing.
Sorry I don't have more to offer but you need to keep in mind that
InCopy needs to do the same operations as far as screen redraw that
InDesign needs.
The only advice I can offer is to edit using the story or galley view.

CS2 InDesign problems with Snow Leopard
I recently purchased a new iMac with Snow Leopard. I installed my CS2 and everything seemed okay. Apple said I would have no trouble with CS2 on the new operating system.
InDesign is doing strange things. When I move a text box, the text disappears. I have to click the text cursor over the text and it reappears. Also, starting yesterday, when I export a file to PDF, InDesign crashes.
Other than purchasing CS4, is there a way to fix these problems?
Thank you.Sorry my email showing no message. What would be doing that?
I called Apple and they told me to install Rosetta, which I did. It helped for a while—I could move a text box and the text would not disappear but I still could not export to a pdf without InDesign crashing. They gave me a number to call for Adobe. I haven't called yet because I know the answer.
This is really a pain. I am working on a 32 page document with photos and lots of text. I always export to a pdf so I can send it out for proofing. I will have to transfer the files to my old computer to make pdfs.
Thanks for all your help. -
Problems with Russian, Ukrainian etc. characters in Polish InDesign CS4
Hi everyone,
I'm a new user of InDesign CS4 (Polish version). Mostly i'm using Garamond Pro for setting text -- there is no Russian characters. Who know which one font has Russian, Ukrinian, Bulgarian Oldslavic etc. characters?
thanks in advance!
MaksIf you're using Windows, there is an incredibly useful utility Babelmap that has the tool you need: "List all the fonts installed on my system that support the text I have on my clipboard". I used to use it all the time.
I very much doubt that you have many fonts already installed on your system that support Old Slavic, unless you've installed them yourself. Bulgarian coverage is better, but still not common. If you'd like I can post some links to the pages where links to the type foundries working in these scripts are often posted. If you're not already familiar with it, Paratype is probably going to be your first stop. -
CS1 and CS2 InDesign file type problems and Tiger
Dual 2.7GHrz G5, 2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.5
Previously, InDesign 3 (CS1 version) was installed on this Mac. I needed to install the full CS2 package. Everything installed just fine. The problem I am having is the file type associations. The Mac now sees CS1 InDesign files as Indesign CS2 files. I got info on a file I knew to have been created and saved in InDesign CS1. I changed the "open with:" to InDesign CS and it worked until I hit "Change all". It then reverts back to a CS2 file type. On other sites I found some different things to try like rebuilding or deleting the LaunchServices pref files, checking to see if their was a CFBundleIdentifier, etc. Anyway, what I seem to have found is that Tiger gets confused when the Type and Creator are the same in the info.plist files. Panther, however, does not seem to have this same problem. We have 10+ other G5's of similar hardware specs as the one listed above, running Panther 10.3.9, have CS1 and CS2 installed, and we are not having the same file type problems.
As a test, I modified the CFBundleIdentifier to be different than the one found in the CS1 info.plist, and it let me "change all" the CS1 files to CS1. Of course, CS2 files could not be associated with CS2 now.
Is there a fix for this? Or, is there a patch being worked on that will fix this problem? We really need to keep both versions of the software installed, and I don't want to have to rely on users making the decision about what version they are working in.
TomIf Get Info shows both app versions (& it should) as "Open with:" choices, you can at least still set individual docs to open with the preferred version. Instead of having to open Get Info windows, you can do the same thing a bit more easily with the contextual menu that pops up when you right (or CMD) click & hold on a Finder document icon.
Normally, the "Open with >" choice in this menu is a one time thing, but if you hold down the option key, it changes to "Always Open With >" & makes the new app choice permanent as it opens the doc, all in one step. -
Bridge CS2 InDesign Contact Sheets
I create Contact Sheets in InDesign through Bridge (CS2) for EPS files many times a day. To get the EPS files to import to the contact sheet I have to add the file type to the File Type Filter (under Files...) every time I create a contact sheet. Is there a way of changing the script so that the EPS files will automatically be included in the File Type Filter? I have no experience with scripting and am having a hard time finding information on this topic.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
MelissaMelissa,
Open up AdobeScriptLibrary1.jsx in a text editor (Adobe's ESTK is a great one for editing scripts).
Look at around line 368 or search for:
TYPES.DEFAULT_CONTACTSHEET
you should see a line like:
TYPES.DEFAULT_CONTACTSHEET = "JPG,JPEG,TIF,TIFF,GIF,AI,PSD,PDF,";
Just add eps, epsf to the list.
TYPES.DEFAULT_CONTACTSHEET = "JPG,JPEG,TIF,TIFF,GIF,AI,PSD,PDF,EPS,EPSF";
Then restart bridge.
That will do it for you.

CS2 InDesign and Windows 7 x64
Today I installed a copy of CS2 on a CAD Capable workstation (High powered), Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. (I know it's an old CS version)
Can anyone tell me if the OS and CS versions are compatible? I am getting an appropriate permissions error after install (As domain admin) when I go to run InDesign. I can run Photoshop and Illustrator, but not InDesign.
Any suggestions?
I have looked for any updates, but found none.Completely unsupported and total crapshoot.
You can try Peter’s method but my experience with XP Mode was a disaster.
Time to move on.

Will CS2 (InDesign & Photoshop) work on either/both Windows 7 pro and Windows 8?
I have CS2 and years ago used Photoshop and InDesign for making books. I would like to use it again for the same purpose.
Will it work on either (or both) Windows 7pro and/or Windows 8?
My computer died and I need a new one. If my older programs won't work at all on Windows 7 pro or Windows 8; then I would like to shift to Apple computer.
However if they will still work on the newer operating systems (either 7 pro or 8) then I would buy a PC so I could use my CS2 still.
I appreciate any ideas, opinions or experiences that can help me to decide which computer would help me best.
Restating; if they won't work on the newer PCs then I'll get an Mac. If they will work on newer PC then I'll get a PC.I believe I have CS2 running on my Win7 Pro x64 desktop system (might be through the XP mode virtual machine, though), but I can't recall the last time I tried to use it.
That said, your old installers will not work because the CS2 activation servers have long since been shut down. See Adobe - CS2 Downloads

My Mac Address Book has 3000+ entries (yes, I use it for all kinds of info) which is fine on the Mac but is unusably slow on the iPhone 3G. It's also too many entries to sync with the Parrot Minikit Slim Bluetooth Car Kit, which has a limit of 2000 e
