NERO Burning ROM & disk images

hi,
I have successfully downloaded the images, unzipped them and appended the .iso
extension to the extracted files.
Firstly, Nero burning rom 5.0.2 is what I am using. Is this the correct version ?
Secondly, the .iso extension is not associated with any application (win98)
and certainly Nero complains of 'unexpected file format' if I try to open the
image in Nero for burning.
Thirdly, as an experiment, if Nero determines a 'foreign image format' then
it will hang when trying to write to CD. (This was a pointless exercise on my
part, I think).
Finally, a question on the procedure as well. Are images 2 & 3, also bootable
images ??

Images seems to me OK. After downloading and unzipping images I used WinOnCD 3.6 to
burn disks. It went smoothly and indeed first CD-ROM is bootable. ( Another question is
why I can boot it from my Dell Latitude notebook but it stops when trying to boot on
Toshiba SP 4310 nootebok ). Now I try to install it but after loading kernel and choosing language
computer starts something ( displaying aaaaa ) and stops with long beep.

IDVD freezes when I try to burn a disk image.

I have a MacBook Pro and am running 10.4.8. I used IMovie HD 6.03 to make a movie from digital photographs with audio. I used IDVD to create a DVD. When I burned the disk using IDVD 6.03, the DVD was pixelated. I read in a thread in the discussion on IDVD that if I create a disk image and then burn it with Toast at a lower spped, you get a better result. I tried several rimes to create a disk image, It encodes fine through the menu, when it gets to encoding the movie, the program freezes. I have closed all other programs and turned off the airport. I also have over 30 Gb of memory. Any sugestions on what is causing this problem or how to fix it. I also tried creating the disk on a 13" MacBook - it also froze.

I actually read a post after mine that showed a lnk that says the same thing. I will give it time. I gues the reason I was concerned is that when I burned the DVD to using IDVD it did not take very long. However, when I tried to burn a disk image, I left it sit for 2 hours and it was stuck on encoding the audio. I will try again and let it sit.

Do i have to let idvd encode assets before i burn a disk image?

I never really noticed this before, but when I go to Project Info, it tells me that my assets are encoding. Do I have to wait for this to happen before burning a disk image, or does it encode the assets while I'm burning a disk image?

If you have selected BEST Peformance encoding, you have an option to have your content encoded in the background as you work on the project, saving you a little time.
In any event, all encoding must take place before iDVD can burn to a DVD disc or write a disk image file. This happens when you tell iDVD to "Burn".

Nero Burning Rom Registration

Hello,
installing Nero Burning Rom Suite 2015 Premium, all went okay. When starting any application of the suite i am asked for registration which is normal for a new installation. I fill in the form, send it and get an success message : "Thank you
for registering your Software". So far everything seems okay. But when starting next time the same application, registration procedure starts again. Applications run without registration with no problems, but the always poping up registrating form
is irritating.
Any Suggestion ?

How can I burn a disk image using disk utility with an external device?

I am trying to burn a disk image on DVD using disk utility in OS 10.3.9.
When I click the 'burn' button only the internal CD-writer appears allthough an external DVD-burner is connected via USB 2.0.
Does anybody have an idea how to make disk utility recognize the external device?

Help! Toast 6 Titanium FAILS to "burn" a Disk Image

Hello everyone.
I was using Toast 6 Titanium to "burn" backup discs for myself, first I tried duplicating or "copying" the Mac OS X Tiger DVD Installer, and it was a success.
Then I tried to "burn" a Disk Image of Suitcase X to a CD (The Disk Image was created using an earlier version of Toast, and quite possibly in OS 9 environment, 'cause I have that image stored in my Ext. HD for quite sometime...), but I keep getting fail error message after I hit the 'Rec' button:
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03
(OK button)
So what does this means?? If I can "dub" a DVD, so could this be because the disk image was created with an older version of Toast or something??
I haven't tried directly "dubbing" a CD... so doesn't know if that is working or not?? Or it's the type/brand of CD-R I am using??

You would think that crating a disk image in one operating system would be recognised in another, this isn't necessarly so.
Use the same one redo it using the same computer and I'll bet it works..
The error code is because OS9 is a completely different operating system.

Disk Utility Hangs "Closing Session" when attempting to burn a disk image

I have been trying to burn a DVD of a disk image created with Disk Utility and the process repeatedly gets hung up on "Closing session". I have let it go for 15 hours (I assume that is long enough) before force quitting DU. Additionally, the drive is completely unresponsive until a complete reboot is made.
I have searched the discussions but can't find the same problem addressed elsewhere. Does anyonw have any suggestions?

Burning several disk images in one DVD

Is it possible to bun 2 disk images on a DVD? I tried in DU but if both .img are selected,"Burn" is greyed.
Alternatively, how can I combine 2 disk images into one, so that DU will accept to burn it?
I found the following advice a Forum:
A .dmg file is a disk image, and can be treated like any other disk. You can copy the contents of one into another, or make a new blank image and copy their contents into that.

Those disk images contain home videos which have been edited in iMovie 5, but cannot be burned in iDVD because my Mac mini has no DVD burner. So I create a disk image in iDVD and use DU -> Images -> burn on an external burner.
Also, is it possible to rename a DVD? For some reason the latest DVD is bearing the same name as the DVD burned just before it.

Burning a disk image...dvd data ???

I recently did a idvd5 project for my parents annivesary it came out hot. Now I'm having a problem I have the first g5 with no superdrive. I read I can burn it by using a external dvd burner doing the disk image method. But I have no external burner and don't plan on getting one right now can't afford it . Anyway I have a PC with a dvd burner on it can I burn parts of teh disk img to multiple cd's and then burn it on my pc ??? Also if I can import it to my pc using roxio do I do it as a dvd data or video dvd??? can anyone help I really want to make this dvd for my parents plz help!!!!!!!!!!!

Burning multiple disk images onto a dvd

I made successful disk images created from DVs of short Ken Burns imovie projects. I then burnt them using disk utility. However, these were burnt onto indivdual disks and I got the idea that it would be a good if I could link the images together and burn them onto one dvd disk. However, this does not seem to be possible as I can't see a way of creating chapter markers now that I no longer have the original DVs, and although I got the image files onto a disk by dragging them on, (disk utility wouldn't allow me to select more than one image at a time), the disk won't open on the television dvd player and therefore it can't be played.
I'm therefore assuming that what I'm trying to achieve isn't possible?

Trying to burn a disk image

I created a disk image .iso using DeVeDe on a linux machine. Now I'm trying to burn that image to a dvd on my Mac computer using "Disk Utility".
The .iso is 4.4GB, using a DVD-R that holds 4.7GB. It's saying the DVD isn't large enough to burn the file.
According to my calculations, there are 0.3GB more space than I need on the DVD!
Why is it saying the DVD doesn't have enough space to burn the file?

You are ignoring "head room" that DVDs need for titles, indexing, etc. The finalizing process also adds to the space. If you don't leave 5% or so you are looking at burning a coaster.
However, there are some burners, such as Toast, that can compress the file sufficiently to fit on a single DVD. I have written 6 GB movie files to a single DVD. Naturally the quality suffers but if it's an old movie or one DLs from the net, it's moot.
This only applies to movies etc., never to a data DVD which has to be copied perfectly, bit for bit.

Multiplexer Error on a 8GB disk burn or Disk image, iDVD

Burning 4.5GB DVDs burns fine.
While trying to burn a 8GB DVD or creating a disk image on iDVD I receive a "Multiplexer Error".
Another time, it burned and with about 3 minutes left the disk popped out of the computer although on the computer it appeared to still be burning. When I put this disk in a DVD player the chapter titles are mixed up with the actual video that plays and the same video is played over various chapters.
I tried changing the burning speed to 2X and tried using an external DVD burner.
Would appreciate any ideas!

Multiplexing error is a very complex problem due to many things (long long list following) - one common but not obvious reason is that material on the iDVD menu goes outside the TV-Safe area (or just touching it).
So first - turn on TV-Safe area and move any object well inside of this.
Wide screen stretched - usually (as I think) it is due to making a 4x3 movie in a 16x9 wide-screen project OR the other way around. This forces one to on flat-screen TV (or other) set the presenting view right - My has 4x3, wide-screen, zoom and auto-wide-screen and I have to switch this by my remote for some DVD I've made "wrong" way.

A. Using strange letters in video project name e.g. +,/; etc. keep to a-z and 0-9 strange letters in project name e.g. +
as described by Donnyboy69. Does the title of your project have any symbols or decimal points in it. If so, that is why you are getting the error. I had a project that had a + sign which caused the same problem. I renamed it without the symbol and low and behold, it worked.
B. Location of Chapters
Can’t be at start or end of movie (Skip first/start one - iDVD sets this by it self. At the End - no need)
Not in a transition (or within 2-3 seconds from it)
Important when from iMovie HD6 or previous - Now also observed when using FCE 4

Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.

First, I do not think that mixing wide-screen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.

Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the unedited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.

To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
One project worked fine in creating disk image file
The other gave Multiplex Errors
I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
This time multiplex errors gone
So had something to do with chapters
So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
After numerous tries, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no multiplex error
As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 sec's beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.

Multiplex Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.
Summary - What to try
1. Chapters
Only A to Z and 0 to 9 in chapter title
No Chapter mark at very beginning of movie
No Chapter mark in or within 2 seconds from any transition in movie
2. TV-safe area for buttons (no one outside this)
3. Safe re-boot
4. No other external devices connected - that are not needed
SDMacuser adds to this
On #4 ... No ext. devices. Some think this applies mainly to ext. FW. Not the case. Also applies to ext. USB2 as well (not to mention flash drives too).
Do not leave 3rd party devices / camera / camcorder plugged in unless it is being used with iDvd's One Step process. Certain web cams can trigger this also (especially ones with added features like LED light/s that draw additional power from the FW or USB bus).
5. Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk
6. Make a DiskImage first - reduces where problem originates
7. Trash iDVD pref. file
8. Make a new iDVD project
9. Movies in project with same aspect ratio e.g. 4x3 or 16x9
10. No other programs/applications running during iDVD process. e.g. Internet, screen & energy savers

I've made literally hundreds of DVD's using iDVD and I occasionally get the dreaded "Multiplex Error". In the past changing the position of chapter markers has worked, but sometimes the only way I can get the DVD to burn is to remove all the chapter markers (not a great solution).
Recently, I've discovered a bug in iDVD that creates the "Muliplex Error" message and it may be the cause of some of my previous problems. Sometimes when you export a movie to iDVD with chapters, it will create chapter menus with incredibly long playing times. My most recent "Multiplex Error" project had two chapter menus. I have a 38 second audio clip that I use for my DVD menus and the first menu showed the correct time of 38 seconds (select View>Show Inspector). The second menu with the same audio clip showed 13 minutes and 42 seconds! When I went to the Project Info window (select Project>Project Info) it now showed the total size of my DVD as 4.8 GB, too big for iDVD to encode. So, I manually adjusted the time of the second menu to 38 seconds. This time without changing anything else, iDVD burned the disk perfectly.
The interesting thing is that when I began the burn, the project info showed under 4GB for my disk. So, from now on I'll check the playing times of each menu before I burn.

Burning A Disk Image into hard drive then using Disk Utilities to make DVD

I am having problems burning a 5GB project onto a DVD+R DL 8GB, so I decided to create a disk image onto my desktop and then use Disk Utility to burn the DVD. Any feedback on this workaround? Thank you very much. Maria

The disc image will not preserve your layer break point, so if you've set that at a specific place, it'll get changed. When burning from a disc image, the first layer will get filled up, then the second layer will begin to be used. Other than that issue, burning from a disc image will work. You'll also be able to set the burn speed with Disk Utility.
Also, burn with Verbatim DVD+R DL discs for best results.

Creating/Burning DVD Disk Images

I'm trying to backup a (commercial) language instruction DVD that my 2-year-old daughter uses (and scratches) often.
I ripped it to my hard drive with MacTheRipper and DVD Player is able to play the resulting VIDEO_TS folder. So, far, so good.
Now, I need to burn a DVD of the ripped files.
What software do you recommend for creating the DVD disc image and burning it to a DVD?

I am attempting to do the same thing; i.e., I have a TS folder on my desktop and I'm trying to make a DVD that will play in a DVD player.
I've tested the TS folder by launching it in DVD Player and it plays beautifully with sound. Now I would like to burn this to a DVD.
I've attempted to use DVD Imager, but all I get is an error message that the TS folder is not found after dragging it to the icon. I've moved the folder around to different places (home drive, user etc), but still DVD Imager doesn't seem to find it, even though the path is recognized in the software.
I also followed the steps in the ken stone article and successfully created a .cdr file by following these steps:
a. Created a folder named VISIONS (the name of the home made movie)
b. Placed the TS_Video folder inside of the VISIONS folder
c. Used Disk Utility to create a .cdr
selected File>New>Disc Image from Folder
selected VISIONS folder (with TS_Video folder inside)
selected CD/DVD Master
selected Encryption None
d. VISIONS.cdr created on desktop
e. Used Disk Utility to create DVD
highlighted VISIONS.cdr in left in Disk Utility

The DVD created was not recognized by my DVD player, nor would it play on my MAC - the computer wouldn't even recognize it.
Do I need to also place an empty AUDIO_TS folder inside the VISIONS folder along with the VIDEO_TS folder?

How to propery burn a disk image for Kubuntu

I downloaded and burned a live cd of kubuntu and when i start up, nothing happens. (I am holding "c")
After going into sys pref > startup disks I see that the cd does not even show up! Mabey the problem is in buring the disk.
I open disk utility, select the iso of the live cd on the left, then hit burn in the toolbar. Then i hit burn again. Mabey i have to do something different to make it a bootable image?

I think you refer to Ubuntu Linux - from www.ubuntu.com, currently Version 5.10 ?
You are right, the machine should start from the CD when you turn on the computer and hold the "c" key, or, if you hold the "alt" key, the mac should give you the option to start from the CD.
What sounds strange in your explanation:
"I open disk utility, select the iso of the live cd on the left, then hit burn in the toolbar......"
If you downloaded the .iso image, then, open disk utility, disk utility cannot have any knowledge of the ubuntu CD. Its unlikely that the cd will appear in the left toolbar.
This can only happen, if you first mounted the image using disk utility.
Burning the CD this way is not recommended.
Even opening/mounting the image might damage the image (but very unlikely)
If this has happend,unmount the image, maybe redownload the .iso image.
Then, open disk utility, navigate to the "images" menu, click "burn".
In the open dialog of the finder, find the .iso image, select it and burn.
That way you should get a bootable CD.
I hope, this helps, if not, post back the specs of your machine, or lookup on the ubuntu site if it is supported by ubuntu.
