Nervous about install

I am so hesitant to install my own RAM on my iMac after reading all the posts about how difficult it is to do (i.e., the panel cover and tabs). But with Apple's price so much higher than Crucial and having to take the computer through the mall, it's hard to resist attempting this on my own. Please tell me it's not as bad as some of the posts make it seem and any advice/tips on doing this myself?

It's very easy to do on the new aluminum iMac models. Apple has been selling very large volumes of these new models, so the few problems that you're seeing reported are the exception (relatively speaking are even fewer than they seem), and are not the rule. Just follow the instructions:

I just got a WD My Passport 1TB External Harddrive and i have already backed everything up to it but im still a little nervous about erasing things off the physical drive since it says my disk utility is out of space an implying i need to erase items.

I cant find the options to erase selected items it only shows that i can erase everything.
I mean technically i suppose i could erase everything an have a fresh start since its backed up to my external. But what exactly are the specific items being erased?
I have bought the newest OS X 10.8.2 an worried that it will get erased also an end up having to repurchase it.
Can anyone help me?

If you are trying to delete some files get out of Disk Utility, it is not for that!
How did you backup and what are you trying to achieve?

Even if there was a convenient way, the software will not run on the pad. Ios is a unique language, and only programs written for ios will run on the pad. All of the programs are in the app store. You might look there and see if the company that makes your sfotware also has an ios version, which would be in the store.

This really is a forum about the MacBook Pro hardware. The best place to ask your questions would be the Windows/BootCamp forum. Your MacBook Pro 13 has one weakness that's going to make gaming a bad experience. It has an integrated Intel HD graphics processor, whereas the higher end MacBook Pro's have discrete ATI graphics processors. But the forum will help you out.

Question about installing a SSD drive and how to clone

I have a 2007 white macbook w/ 80GB HD. I have been thinking about installing a 60 GB SSD drive from OWC as the price has come down tremendously and honestly just to see how it improves boot time, launch, applications etc. I don't keep much stuff on this macbook as it is purely a "browsing" computer but I was wondering how to best clone the hard drive to the new one?
From what I understand, I use an application like Carbon copy cloner and backup "all data". Then, I turn the macbook over and follow the instructions for installing the new drive. Then, I guess I boot up and format the new drive with Snow Leopard.
When do I actually tell the recently formatted computer to transfer the data from the backup clone? Do I do this during the opening migration screen? I know how to import data from another computer using Firewire and a cable, however, does the new SSD formatted computer understand how to boot from the carbon copy cloner backup without installing this software on the new drive?

I am no expert on SSDs. Here is how I would do it with a regular HDD. Note: You will need an external 2.5" enclosure.
Clone Old HDD to new HDD using SuperDuper
• Install new HDD in enclosure
• Connect to the computer and boot from internal HDD.
• Launch Disk Utility and format new HDD in enclosure (post for step by step directions, if needed)
• Download and launch SuperDuper
• In the Copy field select your internal HDD
• To is your newly formatted HDD in enclosure
• Using *backup all files*
• Click Options button
• Check *Repair Disk Permissions on Source*
• During copy Erase Destination HDD then copy from Source
• On successful completion Quit SuperDuper
• Shut down computer and with external still connected
• Option boot from external HDD to check clone.
• If everything checks out, remove new HDD from enclosure and install in computer.
• Install old HDD in enclosure (if desired)

Nervous about terminal.

Hello there Mac community. I just have a quick question that I would like to have resolved. You see, I am a little nervous about entering terminal commands. I most likely shouldn't be, but I just love my new iMac so much that I'd hate to mess it up some how. Please take the time to answer the following questions. Thanks!
1. Have you used terminal? Has the service made your user experience better, or worse?
2. Are there any commands that I should keep away from? What are the risks associated with entering commands?
3.. Can you reverse commands? If so, is it easy to do or more complicated and potentially costly?
As stated above, these are most likely foolish questions. However, I would appreciate any assistance I get as no other people seem to have the answer.

You should be aware that your questions are very much like a poll, and polling is not allowed under the Terms of Use of these forums. In the spirit that you seem to be asking, however, I will try to answer your questions.

Yes. There are some things that it is not possible to do easily without using Terminal and others that Terminal makes much easier if you know what you are doing.
2. Are there any commands that I should keep away from? What are the risks associated with entering commands?
The rm command (remove file or folder) comes to mind here. You have to authenticate with password in order to use it, but it is quite possible for you to immediately delete files irretrieveably using this command. Be sure you really want to do this and do not mistype file paths. A good habit is to not type file paths but let the Terminal app fill them in by dragging and dropping the item you want to use/delete/move onto the Terminal window. It then fills in the path.
3.. Can you reverse commands? If so, is it easy to do or more complicated and potentially costly?
Some you can, some you cannot. It is best to treat your commands as if they are irreversible. And have a backup.
There are some great books available for Terminal. If you do a search in amazon.com for Mac OS X Unix you will come up with a number of useful titles.

Nervous About The ATI X1900

I have a X1900 on backorder-should ship any day now. Having some time with my new Mac Pro and reading up on the X1900 makes me very nervous about glitches, bad drivers and heat issues. Are these problems being blown out of proportion or should I be looking for a different card?
The 3D rendering on this thing is amazingly fast, but I'm also concerned about Motion gaining any real speed from this card. I also enjoy intense 3D gaming as well-soon to include Windows games via Bootcamp.
What other cards are available for the Mac Pros? Can't just be the three Apple has on their site. Thanks.

Sorry if what I posted earlier about a rev2 card turns out to not be the case, but it seems that there is some confusion among the people who have been talking with AppleCare. Some seem to have come away with the idea that there was just a bad "batch" of 1900xt's and others seem to have heard about a "v2".
It seems there are 2 different manufacturer's numbers, but the ROM # of the cards is the same...

Regardless of how they are differentiating between the cards, the fact that apple is shipping out replacements speaks volumes..
I can't be sure, based on this WOW forum thread, what exactly is going on, but if I end up using Apple Care myself I will be sure to report back.

Question about installing drivers on Vi

Hey,?Within the next couple of weeks, I intend to purchase a?X-Fi Fatalty FPS card. I know the Vista drivers aren't up to scratch at the moment, but I'm in no rush to upgrade to Vista, although I have access to the RTM through TechNet. As soon as all drivers are of a good standard then I'll upgrade - until then I'd stick with XP which works great. My question is this, If I buy this card it'll ship with a driver CD. I'll need to install the drivers/creative applications from this CD and then update them from the website. The drivers on the disc will be for Windows XP, and not compatible with Vista. When I format the dri've and install Vista, how do I go about installing the Creative Vista drivers. The downloadable ones from the website require the main CD drivers to be installed, which I won't be able to install as they're for XP. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

Ooh, perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick then. Im basing this on my experience with an old Creative Audigy card I had years ago, but If memory serves me correctly it was actually an OEM card. So what you're saying is, when I receive my X-Fi, I can not use the CD and straight away download the latest drivers/apps from the creative website and install them without needing to run the CD through first?Thanks for your reply.

I had this same problem where it asked to install SQL Express. I found a different link on Microsofts Website that did not require SQL Express, but still passed the pre-requsuite check in MBAM.

Alibutlerdesigns you will use the same process to install on your second computer. You can copy the installation files using a USB drive if you do not wish to download the installation files again.

Uninstall - file that stores info about installed products

Hi,
I want to uninstall EPM system. The problem is that Hyperion does not offer products to unistall. It shows just clean window. In cmd line i also get a lot of java errors. It says 'Premature end of file'. It seems it can not parse some file that stores the info about installed products.

If you are deleting everything manually then
Stop any hyperion related services.
Delete all from under the Hyperion directory
Delete from the registry :- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions
Delete file .oracle.products
There are some environment variables but you may not to remove them all e.g. HYPERION_HOME, EAS_HOME, ESSLANG
Drop and recreate rdbms databases.

Is anyone else nervous about receiving a defective itouch after reading all the negative feedback by a lot of people, im hoping that since there all week 38's now the issues should be resolved.
My question is, if im shipped a defective product, how to i get a refund, or at least a new itouch, do i have to pay to ship it back, and then wait for a new one?
im in canada and ordered on the 26th, and did expited shipping, and it says it won't be here till the 8th-15th

The serial # is printed on the back. If you receive a week 37 iPod Touch from Apple I would leave it sealed in the box and return it to the nearest Apple store for a refund. My understanding is that if it's sealed you will not get charged a restocking fee.
Then proceed to purchase a week 38 unit when you can find one.
