Nervous System 9/System 10.1 user ready to take the plunge into Jaguar. . .

I am the very happy owner of a an iBook 406 (Power PC G3) running System 9.2.2 and System 10.1.something. Perhaps needless to say, I rarely venture into the mysterious wilds of OS X. I'm hoping some kind and informed soul can answer my questions three. . .
1. Enticed by a really cheap refurbished iPod Shuffle, I bought some software and am going to be upgrading to 10.2.8. Before actually doing anything, though, I want to make sure that the upgrade won't reinitialize my hard drive or touch any of my System 9 stuff, just improve the OS X section of the hard disk.
2. I have a huge number of documents created by a truly ancient version of Microsoft Word (version 4.?, I think, purchased in 1993). What is the easiest way to translate all of these things into some format that doesn't require Classic run?
3. I guess there is no third question. Sorry. =)
Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can offer,
Dagonet
  Mac OS 9.2.x

Dagonet:
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
OS X is really not mysterious, although it is very different from OS 9. Once you get the hang of it you will love it.
First of all, I suspect that your iBook is the iBook (Firewire) 466 introduced in September 2000. It will supoort the latest version of OS X, but you may need to Update your firmware.
I also suggest upgrading your RAM to 576 MB to be able to run OS X smoothly. You can check out the prices of popular brands of RAM at ramseeker.
I further suggest that you consider upgrading to Panther (10.3x) rather than Jaguar. To install Panther your computer will need to meet the minimum system requirements for Panther.
Take a look at Mac OS Support-Jaguar for information about Jaguar. You will need to purchase the Full Retail version of Jaguar or Panther. You can purchase universal installer versions guaranteed to install at applerescue
Be aware that Computer specific or upgrade versions should be avoided since they are optimized for the computer to which they are specific and will therefore very likely cause problems during or after installation. On the legal side, it may be a violation of the Software License Agreement which statesThis License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time...
I suggest that you backup your entire computer to an external Firewire Drive using a utility like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. Then completely wipe you disk and install, or do an erase and install.
Please do not hesitate to post back with further questions or comments.
Good luck.

  • Create a user key that stores the mantissa into X1

    Hi Friends:
I was a hp 41cx user but have recently moved up to the Prime.
I’d like to create a user key that stores the mantissa into X1 and another user key that recalls the contents of X1 into the mantissa.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Matt
I suppose you could do it with a Click Box. Just insert a
Click Box object on one of your slides. Then configure it so it
doesn't pause and the action is to jump to the first slide. Then
    assign your hot key.
I would suggest, however, that you avoid using F1 or other
hot keys the browser uses, as the browser will trap them and they
won't be available to the Captivate output. You will be scratching
your head and wondering why it doesn't seem to work. Now if you are
creating .EXE output, it should work dandy. But not if it's
    .SWF/.HTM combo.
    Cheers... Rick

  • System sounds like some jumbojet is ready for take off...

Hi,  I've installed Linux Mint on my Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc7600 Convertible Minitower and now when i watch n online movie (Youtube) ordo anything else like installing software using synaptic, the system fan go really bersek! The BIOS is set to a low fan speed and in normal conditions you don't here the fan. A hint i got on the Linux Mint forum was to update the BIOS since it's a very old BIOS. My question is, can i update the BIOS and were to find the latest BIOS ROM?
Or does anyone else has a solutiuon to stop the fans go berserk?

    Nomko, welcome to the forum.
There are no drivers or BIOS updates for Linux.  Therefore, you will not be able to update the BIOS.  Please don't try to do so using any retail BIOS updates.  None of the retail updates will work with HP motherboards.  HP has them made to their specs.
When I use Linux, I use the forums for the Distro I am using like you did.  They are the experts.

  • Ready to take the Iphone plunge......................

I have had two Android phones. And while my experience with them has not been terrible, it has left something to be desired. So when my contract is up in early December I am seriously thinking of going with the Iphone 5 ( or whatever it will ultimately be called ).  My question to the Iphone users is what can I expect?  I have never owned ANYTHING Apple. Am I in for a long transition period? Are Iphones so vastly different from Androids that it will take a lot of getting used to?
Just any feedback and advice would be appreciated.

I just switched from Android to iPhone 4s and absolutely love it. It is a personal thing to choose, but I had  Android phones that were ruined by "updates", Droid X, then the HTC Inc. 2. So I went with the iPhone as my wife has one and I got to play with before I switched. I like the fact that I can deal with Apple directly and not Verizon or the mfg. I was able to put Apple Care on my phone for $99 thus dropping Verizons costly insurance, granted it does not cover lost or stolen but the breakage replacements are significantly cheaper $49. Anyways as I said its a personal choice but one I'm glad I made.

  • When I get current user I get this info i:0#.w|(user name) that input the information into a list

how would I removed the i:0#.w|  as I need to get this information in a  workflow email to send out to people, but  I dont want them to enter the
    i:0#.w|
all I want them to enter is
    <domain>\<user name>
but I can not seem to capture just the domain \username  using the Sharepoint Designer Workflow items.
IS there a way to strip or remove that garbage in from of the user name? some how in a SPD workflow

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to remove the i:0#.w| from the user name using workflow.
As the prefix is fixed value, then I recommend to use the Extract Substring from Index of String action to remove the i:0#.w| from the user name.
After that, use the variable which is used to store the rest string to update a column value(use another column in Single line of text type).
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • About ready to take the new Extreme Base Station back to the Apple store

Ok, I, too, am having early adopter blues. I bought the base station for one reason only - to use my external hard drive with it. But I have a 100gb "tunes" folder that cannot be recognized. I am almost thinking I should just purchase true NAS and plugin my old Linksys router, cause this is getting old.
Has anyone found a viable workaround for seeing large folders? I considered moving all of my artist folders out of my big tunes folder (hoping none were bigger than 2 gb) and seeing what happens there, but then if I have a data file larger than 2gb, I am SOL. And further, that means all of my data storage files are mixed in with my music folders, (meaning my Homework folder would be mixed in between Holly Golightly and Hot Hot Heat - not ideal by any stretch of the imagination).
This is making me CRAZY and I am quickly approaching my 14 day return policy . . . . sob.

Call Apple tech support before your option to return runs out and I am sure they will help.

  • I just got my i phone its tell me my log in and pass word are wrong ready to take the phone back, i just got my i phone its tell me my log in and pass word are wrong ready to take the phone back

I used my I'd and pass word to log in here why can't I on my phone

Plug the iPhone into a wall outlet, let it charge for half an hour and then try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears.
If that does not work, take it to an Apple store genius bar to be tested by the technicians.

  • User should not release the PR which is created by him

    Hi
We didnu2019t use work flow functionality for PR Release. So same user can create PR and release the same PR in our system. Our requirement is user should not release the PR which is created by him. I would like to put this control in system.
How can I achieve this requirement?
    Thanks
    Jeny

    Hi Ravi
Thanks for your reply. but they need to have authroization for PR release . bec they are eligble to release PR as per delegation of authroity. but they should not release their own PR . they can relase other's PR within their level.

  • I am trying to activate root account on my MAC.  The directions I've seen do not match what is in System Preference for Accounts or Users

I am trying to activate the root account on my new Mac Book Pro.  The instructions that I have found do not match what I have in System Preferences.  What is the process when using Users and Groups.  When I click on Join the Network Account Server- Open Directory Utility I don't see a option to  activate root user as the instructions say at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1528
    OS X Lion
From the Apple menu choose System Preferences....
From the View menu choose Users & Groups.
Click the lock and authenticate as an administrator account.
    Click Login Options....
Click the "Edit..." or "Join..." button at the bottom right.
Click the "Open Directory Utility..." button.
Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.
Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu.
Enter the root password you wish to use in both the Password and Verify fields, then click OK.

Do you mean you cannot select "Enable Root User" from the "Edit" menu as shown below?
Why do you think you need to enable the root user? I've never needed it in the history of OS X.

i am new on this, what should i review into the db?
    Regards and thanks in advance
    Dma.

    Hello Daniela,
you try to perform an offline backup (which is a very uncommon way nowadays) and your SAP system is not down.
This is also described in the official documentation:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm32/helpdata/en/0d/d309664a0c11d182b80000e829fbfe/content.htm
offline: Database backup in offline mode, in other words, the database is shut down during backup. When you select this parameter, BRBACKUP checks that no SAP system users are connected to the database. If an SAP System is active, the database is not shut down and BRBACKUP terminates the process with an error message (message number BR0068E).

  • Parallel How many times user can login to the SAP system through ITS

    Hello all
We are using the ITS ---620 and following 46D R/3 system
    R/3 system details:
    Kernal :
    kernel release :46D
    O/S :SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-05 sun4us
We would like to now, At a time How many times user can login to the SAP system through ITS
Kindly letus know  if any one have idea about parameter which can restrict the end users to u201CNu201D times/ sessions.
Transaction SITSPMON/SMICM are not working in R/3 system as it is 46D.
We found that parameter u201Clogin/disable_multi_gui_loginu201D works with SAPgui logons.
System logons using the Internet Transaction Server (ITS) or Remote Function Call (RFC) are not affected by this Parameter u201Clogin/disable_multi_gui_loginu201D
I need similar parameter u201Clogin/disable_multi_gui_loginu201D for the ITS users.
    Thanks

I have searched all docs and notes.
Everytime the answer is PArameter for multi_gui_logonis not applicable for SAP Gui for HTML ( Browser )
The functionality does not exist for SAP Gui for HTML.

So I just bought a used MacBook from Amazon with OSX 10.5.8.  I am trying to install new software and operating system, but I don't have the passwords to the Users set up in the computer.  What do I do?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

  • How to find the user who never logon R3 system since system golive.

    Hi everyone,
Our R3 system golive on 2005.Due to some reasons,we need to find out the users who never logon R3 system since system go live and want to delete it.Those large numbers of unvalued users has been created because of imprecise estimation before golive. So for now,we willing to remove those users by using some kind of method.and you know, the number of unvalued user are immense,so it's impossible to identify this kind of user by using T-code su01 one by one.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi rong,
Run report RSUSR006. One of the criterias is "Users with Initial Password"
    That should answer your question.
