Net8 Configuration Assistant Problem?

NCA installed on Win98 is ok with Oracle8.1.6 EE R2 on Win2000.
But, NCA don't work with Oracle8.1.6 EE on Red Hat Linux 6.2.

  • Installation of 8i stuck at Net8 Configuration Assistant stage

I am trying to install Oracle 8i on a w2k box. It consistently gets stuck at Net8 Configuration Assistant stage. It says that the status is in progress. I tried pressing the stop button, however, it had no effect. The only way to exit from the installation process would be to quite the Universal Install altogether. I notice that in the details for Net8 Configuration Assistant pane, the last few lines read:
    Net8 Listener Startup:
    Running Listener Control:
    c:\orahome80\bin\lsnrctl start LISTNER.
From the w2k services MMC, I can verify that the listener service started.
Any idea why the installation keeps hanging up at that stage?

    Michael,
Unfortunately I don't have any other suggestions for your current install.
I can point you to a guide I wrotefor getting a stand alone system up and running pretty quickly.

  • Can't run Net8 Configuration Assistant & DBCA

    Dear Friends,
I have the following problems - after installation of Oracle
8i EE for Linux i have 2 components that fails:
    - Net8 Configuration Assistan;
    - Oracle Database Configuration Assistant.
The error is the same (JAVA - class not found):
After few debuging I see that the error reason is the
    following:
    "can't find resource for oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_en"
When I open the jar file:
    $ORACLE_HOME/product/8.1.5/network/jlib/netca.jar
I see that the class oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_en is
    missing. There are:
    oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_de.class
    oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_es.class
    oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_fr.class
    oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_ja.class
    oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_pt_BR.class
    oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_zh_CN.class
It is very strange that there are many languages except
    English language.
If in your distribution you have this class, please send to
me the class or NetCA.jar file:
    oracle.net.ca.mesg.NetCASR_en.class

    a) Install the patch. It will take care of your problem.
    b) Be a little more descriptive about the Linux version and
manufacturer. For SuSe 6.2, contact Michael Haselstein, he
did quite a bit of good work. You'll find his address easily
by searching the old postings on this group.

  • 9i Net Configuration Assistant problem

    Hello
I've installed 10g for Windows (XPSP1 PC) where there were separate installations of 9i client and 9i db. All have different home and seems to work fine.
The problem is that both 9i client and 9i db Net Configuration Assistant do not work.
Following the shortcut I reached the file ..\network\tools\netca.cl and inside I found %ORACLE_OEM_CLASSPATH% which does not exists in system variables.
    Any comments? 10x
    I

now I planning to install 10 g , what do you suggest
to avoid this problem?I suggest you install on [unknown] operating system according to the setup instructions. If you are experiencing netca hangs, it is usually an indication that the installation was incorrect, and often that can be traced to failing to meet the prerequisites.

  • Configuration Assistant Problems

I have installed Solaris 8 on my Intel box and it sits there quite happily. EXCEPT whenever it reboots, I need to reconfigure the incorrectly recognised IDE controller. Does anyone have any ideas on how to 'force' the config assistant to accept a particular configuration without prompting every time?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ian.

    Hi Allen...
I have a similar problem with Solaris 7. I changed my motherboard (gasp!!) and now, when I boot from the hard drive, the Config Assistant is always launched, and it erroneously recognizes the IDE PCI as an ISA PCI device. It will not successfully boot after that.
I do have a workaround though: if I use my backup Config Assistant floppy to boot up, it properly recognizes the IDE PCI, and the boot up successfully completes!! I do not appear to get any errors during the device scan sequence. One more note: I did cause a disk problem during the conversion, but it appeared to be fixed successfully by FSCK. That only happened once. I had had NO problems prior to the motherboard swap with the IDE device suite on my system. My CPU is the AMD K6-2 400Mhz. Any ideas?

  • The Infamous Portal Configuration Assistant Problem

    Hi.
Just discovered this forum so I thought I would post up the most common and infuriating problem I have had in the installation of Portal over the past few weeks.....
When attempting to configure Oracle Portal through the Assistant, it asks for the password of SYS which never works, you attempt to connect via SQL*PLUS only to discover the message :
ORA-28009: connection to sys should be as sysdba or sysoper
I'm sure you know what I am talking about so I will leave this there, anybody who has come accross this, fixed this, still fixing it, please post the messages tot his thread regardless of version and platform. That way we will have the ultimate source to the solution of this problem.
I look forward to the posts.
    A.M

    additional comment:
don't forget to remove or rename the associated spfile.
(usually located in the C:\oracle\admin directory for example.)
Otherwise Oracle will never read the specific init<SID>.ora file.
    regards,
    Udo

  • 8.1.5 Install Problem: Database Configuration Assistant

I have problems installing Oracle 8.1.5 on Linux.
On the "Configuration tools" screen, I get the following
error for the 'Oracle Database Configuration Assistant':
"A required command line argument is missing"
The installation claims the error is not critical.
When I try to access the database with SQL*Plus and the default
SYS/CHANGE_ME_ON_INSTALL login, I get the following error:
ORA01033: Oracle intialization or shutdown in progress.
I cannot start or stop the database.
When I use "connect internal" in srvmgr, and try to do "startup",
    I get "insufficient privileges".
    When I use "connect SYSTEM/CHANGE_ME_ON_INSTALL", I get ORA01033
    again.
    My system configuration:
    RedHat 6.0
    2x Pentium II 266
    192 MB RAM
    Java JRE 1.6.5
    Kernel 2.2.10

I have exactly the same setup (ie 2.2.10 etc) with
exactly the same error message on install. In fact
as far as I can tell no database was created because
of this error. I run the "dbassist" sepeartely after the
    install and I get :
    " JNLS Excetion:oracle.....
Unable to find any National Character Sets.
    Please Check your Oracle Installation"
This is a stock redhat 6.0 install with the addition
of the redhat errata updates(ie enlightenment-0.15.5-36
    , X, kde etc) and kernel 2.2.10.

  • Security problem in oracle 9i Database Configuration Assistant

Inside the tool Oracle 9i Database Configuration Assistant there is an option by which you can make a "copy" of your Database. This "copy" is called a template and you don4t need any password or aunthentication to do it, you just need the tool to be installed in your server. Once you have a template, you can bring it anywhere and recreate the original database (including data). Again, you don't need any password or aunthentication to do it, further more, in the last step of this process you can change the password of any user (inluding SYS, SYSTEM or another DBA user). The thing about this is that anyone with access to the computer where the database is can make a template of it, take this template to another computer and recreate my database having FULL access to it (structure, data, code ...). And everything without needing any password!!!. I really thing that it is a big problem. Is there any way of preventing this operation?. How can I safely protect my database?. I thought about unistalling the product, but someone can re-install it and everything would be the same. Can someone give me an answer?
    Thanks for everything.
    Pablo Cuenca

You must protect your database from casual browsing at the OS level. This is not a security hole, per se, since this is a known issue with any and all software. Database Configuration Assistant is not needed for this since one may copy the database without it.

  • Database configuration assistant privlege problem

    I am installing Oracle 9i R2 (9.2.4) install on Redhat 7.3.
I am following the guides at:
    http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml
I launched the oracle runInstaller, I can go through to the point where I choose Database configuration which I select(Software only) and click next.
It failes with the following error dialog:
Error: You do not have sufficient privileges to write to the specified path. in compnonent Database Configuration Assistant 9.2.0.1.0. Installation cannot continue for this component.
O Stop installation of all products
O Stop installation of this component only
    OK
I continue the installation. Many things are installed, but at the end of the installation, it s written "Oracle installation Failed".
Does anyone know where my permissions problem is and the way to complete the install succesfully?
(how can I create the my first database, sqlplus seems not installed )
    Thank you.
    Edouard.

The problem could arise not having set ORACLE_BASE environment variable : in this case the Installer could try creating directories under root (/).
But there is Bug No. 3547724 as well : NEW 9.2.0.4 FOR LINUX 'REKIT' FAILS TO INSTALL DBCA - INSUFFICIENT PRIVILEGES. In this case the suggested workaround is to install 9.2.0.1, then patch 9.2.0.4 .

  • Problem using template in database configuration assistant Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I created a database using the database configuration assistant for Oracle 10g on a Windows Server 2003 box. The database I created worked perfectly, and I had saved it as a template so I could save some time when creating similar databases (which I have to do on occasion)
When I try to use the template though, I get an error (at about 4% through the database creation) saying:
    ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-09314: sltln: error translating logical name
I'm creating this new database on the same server as the one I created my previous database on and NOTHING has changed on it, I did this just minutes apart and can duplicate it at will (just try and use a template)
Heres the template file contents (KM1.dbt)
    <DatabaseTemplate name="KM1" description="" version="10.1.0.2.0">
