Netbackup 6.0 admin console ssh tunnel to osx X11 server

Hey guys, I have been attempting to use the built in xfree X server included with OSX, I have no problems using the ssh -X command to tunnel to the netbackup media server. I run the jnbpa java administration console, and the window opens on the mac, it is titled correctly, but none of the text or functions come over. (I know its all working, I have a linux session under parallels that exports the admin console with no problems). At first I thought it might be fonts or something, since the box pops up, shows the menubar on it, its just a grey scquare where the username/password/server should be. I then found out that the whole instance is actually frozen up. I cant close the grey box ethier. I have to xkill from another xterm or actually close the entire X11 server to close the attempt? Any help would be greatly apperciated.
Thanks in advance, its a real pain having to Virtual a Linux session just to export a X window. Talk about a waste of resources.
Thanks again.
John

Common, there has to been some "real" sys admins out there using mac's, its bsd for pete's sake. Maybe this bump will bring this back to the top where someone can maybe offer some insight. I've been reading about darwin ports, maybe xfree86 running as the XServe will help. But apple's X11 server should work as well. HELP...
Thanks

  • Server Admin 10.5.3, SSH Tunnel to OSX Server 10.3.9.....

I used to connect to my 10.3.9 server using Server Admin + an SSH tunnel that forwarded tcp port 311 from my localhost to the 10.3.9 server.
Since Software Update upgraded the Server Admin tool to 10.5.3, I've been unable to connect to my 10.3.9 server. The Tunnel works fine, but the Admin Tool won't connect to the server. (Says there's no server at the address I entered.)
    Any ideas?

    Hi
I could be wrong but I'm surprised you can even connect let alone admin a 10.3 server with 10.5 Admin tools? See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1822
Specifically: "Mac OS X 10.5 admin tools only work with Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 or later." and "To administer a Mac OS X 10.3 server, you can use either Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 admin tools."

The username and password you entered when you installed the server are stored in the {RootInstallation}/conf/fms.ini file.
Let me know if that doesn't solve it.

  • Using ssh tunneling to admin OS X server on a far-away LAN

My Mac OS X Server 10.4 box is behind a gateway (dns, dhcp, nat, ipfw) box on a LAN. My workstation (the one I will be administering from) is on a different LAN. I don't want to open holes in my firewall, but I have an account on the firewall (I am the admin). I want to use ssh tunneling to administer the server. I have successfully done this with my old webstar box (which the OSX Server is replacing).
Is it as simple as adding a port designation when I "Add Server" to the Server Admin and Workgroup Server? example:
    localhost:8331 or localhost:8625
(8331 is the local end of the tunnel which ends up as 331 to the OSX server, and same for 8625) The OSX server doesn't care because it see the connections from the ports that it expects. I'm just wondering about configuring the admin apps which are on a different LAN.

How do I bring up the file shares in a GUI
You don't.  Not with Putty or an SSH connection.  Just share a folder from the PC and access it via SMB from the Mac to access it.

  • SSH Tunnel to an Oracle SQL Server

    Hi all,
I am attempting to set up an ssh tunnel from my local machine to an Oracle SQL server operating on a remote computer, and use it to run a perl script to extract things from that database.
My question is, do I need to have an SQL client on the local machine for this to work? The remote computer does not have the Oracle DBD installed, while the local machine does (hence running the script on the local computer), but will the DBD hand of requests correctly through the ssh tunnel to the SQL server on the remote machine without a client on the local one?
    Thanks!

The data access is all happening on the Oracle machine right? Then no, all your local machine needs is an ssh client - that's it. After that all processing is running on the server.

    Try the following:
Restart "Windows Management Instrumentation" service in your service tray where this admin console is installed.
Or restart the admin console, if possible restart the machine and try again.
If the user (who is accessing the admin console) is to perform administrative tasks either through the BizTalk Administration console make sure user is part
of BizTalk Server Administrators group or BizTalk Server Operators group for
low privileged role that only has access to monitoring and troubleshooting actions

  • Attach ethernet port to SSH tunnel

Anyone know if I can setup one ethernet port on a Mac Pro to provide DHCP/NAT and direct all traffic on that port to an SSH tunnel?
What I want to be able to do is create an SSH tunnel to a proxy server and then have any device I plug into one of my ethernet ports go through that tunnel/proxy.
I have the tunnel/proxy working by creating a network location with a SOCKS proxy server at 127.0.0.1 port 2001 and then doing ssh -D 2001, but not sure how/if I can connect it to the physical ethernet port plus provide DHCP/NAT as well.
I have OSX Server 10.6.4 if that helps.

    Hin j.v.,
It is possible to iChat Bonjour over a Virtual Private Network , yes.

  • Unable to connect to DPM Database through Remote Admin Console

    Hello all,
I have a fresh install of DPM 2012 server.  I am able to locally start the Admin Console and work with the DPM server, however when I attempt this remotely, I get the following error:
Unable to connect to the DPM database on <database instances name> (ID: 33210).
I have verified this is a firewall issue by disabling the firewall and connecting.  I would, however, like to create firewall rules for just the ports that are necessary, and have not been able to find the correct ports by following tutorials online.
     Any help is appreciated.
I have attempted the tutorial here: http://blog.patricknielsen.net/2011/10/dpm-2010unable-to-connect-to-dpm.html which seemed on the spot, but brings no
    joy.
    Much appreciated,

Today i have noticed that one of them is active and the other one is dead and I can't  access it by using web admin console although i can access it by CLI and I can ping the active one from it and also ping the failover IP. • Set up SSH Tunneling

I am new to setting up SSH tunneling on my Mac server. I understand the idea behind tunneling but how would I go about setting it up, on both my client Mac and server Mac? I am running Mavericks Server on my Mac btw.
    Thanks!

I'm going to infer that you're (also) not familiar with VPNs in the following.
Generic sequence: open up the necessary ports and protocols at your firewall for tunnel or VPN pass-through, and configure the tunnel or VPN server, and configure the VPN or tunnel client.
Here's a list of the ports, and make sure you distinguish TCP ports, UDP ports, and protocols; those three are all different, when you're configuring a firewall.
ssh uses TCP port 22 by default, though other ports can be selected.
With OS X and OS X Server, L2TP via IPSec and PPTP VPN clients and servers are available, and are very common choices.
Or yes, you can go old-school, and use ssh tunneling if you really want to.  There's an overview of that process here.
If you're into using the command line (I happen to be), then straight ssh (and sometimes ssh tunneling) can be handy, but most folks with OS X will probably want to use an L2TP VPN — I use that regularly, too.  Based on the way you're asking this question, I'd probably guess you'll want to use L2TP/IPSec via NAT VPN passthrough in whatever box you're using as a gateway, and skip the ssh tunneling for now.  (This configuration and this approach would be more common than ssh tunneling in general, though there are cases where you might want or need to use ssh tunneling or some other alternaitve to L2TP/IPSec.)

  • Using portal admin console through an ssh tunnel?

I'm trying to login on the portal admin over an established ssh connection:
    - profile server listen on hostname.subdomain.domain, port 8080
    - an ssh tunnel (via portforwarding through a firewall) from client port
    10000 to profile server 8080
    - connect from webbrowser to http://localhost:10000/console
that won't work: internal server errors. If i change my hosts file:
    localhost 127.0.0.1 hostname.subdomain.domain
it works. But this is ugly and conflicts with DNS.
So, how can i configure the profile server to accept connections over an ssh
    tunnel? Anyone any idea?
    regards, Jordi

    Hello,
Does any one in BEA have an answer to this. I was stumped when asked by a client. Any response will be great.

  • How to get to x6250 Remote console through a ssh tunnel?

I am accessing webGUI of my x6250 blade console through a ssh tunnel, I can log into eLOM, but when I launch remote console, the java client starts, then a java IOException window comes up with message saying "Create connection failure".
When I access eLOM directly from company network without ssh tunnel, all works fine, so it is not my local system's setup or JVM issue.
    I am forwarding following ports already: 80, 443, 5120, 5121, 5123, and 7578.
I suspect I missed some more ports for remote console usage, but which one(s)?
    YZ

[ports needed for lights out management.]
    a) There does not appear to be an official Sun source for the port data.
    b) ILOM, ELOM, [a-z]LOM each seem to require their own selection of ports.... Beware.

  • Can I use Apache to Proxy the Admin Console?

    Greetings.
We are deploying a new Weblogic environment into a network that we treat like a DMZ. Basically we treat all of our Production networks like DMZs, let's not debate the intelligence or stupidity of this please. We are running on RHEL 5.3 x86_64, with Apache 2.2, with Weblogic 10.3.1 32bit.
One security flaw we are trying to correct is not having secure access to the Weblogic Admin Console. In this secure environment we intended to use the Firewall, Apache Allow/Deny, and SSL to ensure the console is kept secure.
In our less controlled networks we use an Apache SSL Virtual Host to proxy the Admin Console but it seems that none of our weblogic admins have ever noticed that inside the browser, half the links are not SSL, and include the Admin Console's port number. Just a snippet of the Admin Console's HTML for the banner across the top shows a how some links are / relative and others are fully qualified with protocol, hostname, port and path.
In order for my Apache Proxy to work properly the Console must be generating / relative links, is there some way to configure the server's root for the Admin Console or something?
As of now, unless a better idea surfaces, my options seem to be:
    1. Spending my holiday weekend writing a Perl CGI to be the proxy and content filter all of these bad URLs out.
    2. Using ssh to tunnel to the Admin Console's port.
    3. Using mod_proxy_html to do the same thing as #1.
Here are options not on the Table:
    1. Firewall rules to allow access to the Admin Console port.
    2. Bridging networks with a spare NIC in the server.
    3. Running the Admin Console as Root and binding to port 443.
Overall, I can't believe I'm the only one to ever think of or try to do such a thing as proxy the Admin Console, but I can not seem to find any blogs, forum posts, or documentation to suggest a good way to accomplish this.
Thanks for your time and attention.

  • Weblogic 9.x admin console slowest and worst application ever

Does anyone else think the Weblogic 9.x admin console really sucks? Is there any place I can make improvement requests?
Things in Weblogic 8.x that took just a couple of minutes to accomplish routinely take a half-hour or more in the Weblogic 9.x console. I have recently discovered WLST and I have created a couple of scripts to script things I do quite often but quite honestly I don't have time to script everything I need to do in the console, especially since BEA should provide a usable admin console IMHO.
My specific complaints (not all inclusive as there is no way I could think of every annoyance I run into on a day to day basis):
    1) It is crazy slow. We use the ssh node manager so every time it loads a page I guess it polls every managed instance via ssh and page loads take a couple of minutes. For example, getting the next page of Deployments takes around 3 minutes.
    2) The deployment pagination is very annoying. Why is this limited to 10 deployments per page? This should just show me a list of all my deployments in alphabetical order. The pagination offers nothing. At the very least pagination length should be configurable. The pagination combined with problem 1 takes me many minutes to get to the app I need to do something with.
    3) If BEA insists on pagination on the deployments list at least give me a link so I can immediately jump to a specific page! The link should have the letter range of the deployments on that page (like A-C, D-V, W-Z, or something like that).
    4) After I stop an app it jumps back to page 1 instead of showing the page of deployments containing the app I just stopped. OMG!!! GRRR! Now I have to hit Next several times to get back to my app with 3 minutes between each page load. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!
    5) Why is there not a Redeploy button like there was in Weblogic 8.x? If I need to restart an application I have to go through the update procedure and not upload a new version. This is annoying, just give me a damn redeploy button.
    6) After clicking the Lock button I have to wait 2-3 minutes for it to give me the Lock. Why does it take this long?
    7) The whole locking mechanism is stupid. Why do I have to obtain a lock to make any changes? I never had a problem in Weblogic 8.x with walking on someone else. I can see how this could possibly be beneficial to some organizations (I suppose) so at the very least make obtaining the lock optional via configuration.
I am sure there are many more but I can't think of all of them now. I will start writing it down every time the console annoys the hell out of me. IMHO the Weblogic 9.x console broke the perfectly good Weblogic 8.x console.
It wouldn't be so annoying if it wasn't so MADDENINGLY SLOW.

We have upgraded our WebLogic from 8.1 to 9.2 along with our PeopleSoft 9.0 upgrade and boy-oh-boy, has the WebLogicAdmin console slowed down.
It used to open in about 10 seconds.
Now it opens in roughly 1 minute and 30 seconds.
The heap size settings are the same as they were in the WebLogic 8.1
Even restarting the WebLogicAdmin and associated PeopleSoft PIA's is the worst I have ever seen.
